Great product so far

I just bought an M1 for my home on Bell Satellite TV in Ottawa and used it for the first time last night in Phoenix. Great picture quality and works just like advertised. I notice a slight delay when using the SlingPlayer app remote control but think that is to be expected. Overall I am very pleased with the purchase so far.

Rippoff

For no apparent reason they removed the guest account option that older models had. I purchased this with the intention of allowing my son who's away to see local news and thanks to "sling" stupid decision that won't be happening.

Great TV streamer for Cable Box and DVR content

Works flawlessly, I have owned an M1 since they first came out a few years back. Can stream my TV/DVR content to anywhere I am, works great for the cottage on the weekends and saves on the cable bill out there. For those having streaming issues, I set the bandwidth quality to approx 800kbps up to 1mbps upload and get adequate clarity on a 32" TV -- make sure your home internet has a good UPLOAD rate, 512 kbps upload may not be enough. Download rates have nothing to do with streaming to an offsite location. Pros: Anything you can do at home you can do on the road, data plan usage is reasonable on iphone/ipad if you scale back the quality, fairly easy setup and nothing is required to maintain the box. Cons: Had to buy the official app for each platform at [price] at the time (I believe this changed for the M2), limited Linux support. If the box crashes while on the road you cant fix it (only happened once, overall very stable)

Great Deal on Sale

Works just as advertised. Replaced an older Slingbox Solo that died. Not a major difference in picture quality, but addition of Wifi and Chromecast support are a big plus. Can't really go wrong here.

Great purchase-use wired connections

Have used earlier Slingbox models in the past and found them really great. Bought 2 of the M1's as they were on sale at a good price, we have 2 DVR boxes in our house and so one box for each DVR. Setup really easy, probably because I've done a few of them before. Got remote controls set up on first try (Motorola DVRs supplied by ISP). Tried M1 boxes with both wireless and wired connections; wired seemed to be more stable with higher bitrate so that's what I settled on. Very good product and we will get lots of use from them ... we travel a lot and this will let us keep up with local news while away. Would recommend these as long as you use wired connections to the Slingbox appliances for best streaming bitrate.

Does exactly what it's supposed to do

Installation and setup were easy. The Slingbox does exactly what I expected it to do and does it well. I have only used it in home for now (to stream TV to tablet) and it works flawlessly. I am happy with my purchase.

Nice to have and setup is easy

The box was easy to setup I chose to connect it with a CAT 5 wire directly to my router so it would not interfere with the other wi-fi devices in the house. When I first started it up I had volume issues, but then found that the volume on my home PVR was not turned up enough. There is a bit of lag when using the remote but it works fine and the TV comes in HD. The bandwidth usage is surprisingly very reasonable, about 1.5mbps per hour.

A sterling tv box is much better

Our family tried the M1 and our son is very techno savvy. We took it back. We researched the best android boxes out there and bought a sterlingtvbox.com which is easy to setup and has tons of features. We are very pleased now

Pros: - Easy setup. No ports to open in router. - Configurable online. - Huge support community. Cons: - Windows player sometimes has trouble starting. - Ads PS: nobody cares if it's black!

It Works

My main mission was to sling from Canada to the US so that I could watch Canadian stations while in the US. It accomplishes that and seems fairly stable. So, mission accomplished. Negatives would be that my nephew hooking it up complained about component cables instead of HDMI; the 500 has it but its double the price. Negative would also be that it is not the easiest set up and instructions are not the most clear. I have had a Dish slingbox before so was somewhat familiar. One thing I found is that it seems that Slingbox essentially has built a "universal" remote and universal approach. So I see "Rogers" on the remote but it would likely say "Cox" if I were a Cox subscriber but would not really be Rogers or Cox specific; so not totally smooth. For recording programs in particular. With Dish it was totally smooth. I don't think it would be different even with the 500 model, but not positive on that. I did also get a chromecast so I could use my ipad as a remote for my tv essentially. IT works but seems to sort of lock up quite a bit. Not sure if thats a chromecast issue or Slingbox or my internet. Overall, it does the job.

Having not read full instructions on how to use the product I was surprised to find out that casting to Roku thru the purchase of an app for Android or IOS equipped mobile device

Slingbox M1 Wi-Fi Media Streamer - Black

I definitely like the product. Does what I expected and well. Having not read full instructions on how to use the product I was surprised to find out that casting to Roku and Chromecast was only possible thru the purchase of an app for Android or IOS equipped mobile device.
