Great product

This is the best product for streaming from your antenna. One unit covers all tvs and mobile devices in your home.

Needs an HDMI Port

Purchased the unit for a downtown Toronto condo. My layout required the Tablo to be in my living room (near antenna) and my router in my den. An Ethernet cable wasn't feasible, which meant a Wi-Fi setup. Although the Tablo records high-quality video, the playback through a ROKU 3 streaming player continuously freezes for buffering, sometimes up to 45 seconds. I have high-speed Internet and a fast router (no problems streaming NETFLIX on my ROKU). This unit needs an HDMI port for wireless configurations where the Tablo and the router aren't in the same room. Also, the feature allowing you to watch shows anywhere around the world is only available if you purchase the guide subscription. This wasn't mentioned on the website. Unfortunately my search for cord-cutting solution is still ongoing.

Worse than not having one at all

I had hoped that this would be a nice compliment to my home theatre as a replacement for my ancient VCR. It is going back. First, it won't get past the geolocation screen because the setup won't accept any postal codes (I even tried ones from different provinces and a few US zip codes). After finally getting geolocation to work, it fails to recognize my USB hard drive, a 1TB name brand drive that should work fine based on the requirements outlined on the tablo website. Ignoring that, I finally get to the point where I should be able to stream live TV but it keeps pausing and stopping and resetting while streaming to the tablo app. The station comes in fine on the exact same antenna connected to a TV. I would have been better off not getting anything.

Does the job

To me, this unit is pretty pricey considering you have to use your own HD. That said, this unit does what it promises. I would rate 5 stars on functionality, but went with 4 stars for a couple of reasons. Price: Pretty pricey unit, but, there are very few companies that make this sort of tech. This can be achieved with an old computer and a tv tuner card. UI: The UI on this device is straight forward, however, as other reviewers of stated, it's very slow when dealing with the UI. This is not an overstatement, the UI is indeed slow to the point of frustration. Either through it's app or the web app. It's brutal. Guide Subscription: As if the price wasn't enough, you also have to subscribe to a guide system in order to record tv shows in advance or a series. Otherwise, you get a ONE day guide from which you must manually record what you want. The subscription fee is small, but large enough to be an annoyance. The entire idea of cord cutting is to not have to deal with monthly charges. All that said, this is a cord cutters dream. Unit works as it should and records flawlessly. Playback on any device on your network. I love it.

Cord Cutting made easy!

I purchased the 4-Tuner but it's not listed, and the only difference between this unit and that is the simultaneous shows/recordings you can do. One thing to note, this unit is made in Canada! If you have some that hesitate to cord cutting this will ease their transition by a lot as it works just like a Tivo (pause live TV, schedule recordings, etc.). First thing you need to do is go to tvfool and check what over the air channels you could receive and get a decent antenna so you can get those channels without issue. Check the distance of those channel transmitters vs. what the antenna claims. You will also needs a hard drive, there is a list of hard drives that work but most will so not a big deal what you have. It can support up to 5TB currently, which is crazy huge space. You would use a regular cable to run from your antenna to your Tablo, then I suggest you use an ethernet cord to connect directly into your router. It would mean less buffering when selecting a show plus it can handle a couple more simultaneous recordings/viewing. Tablo also offers a guide, so you can view whats shows are on each channel. This is an additional service which you can try for 30 days and decide if you wish to subscribe monthly or buy a lifetime subscription. Great cover art and you can then schedule entire seasons of shows to record. Support seems to be quite reliable, there is an online community (this item is very popular and often sells out), There you can find or get the help you may need... but this is quite an easy set up. I got Roku for my TVs, so it is one of many options of what to watch from there and being part of your network you can watch it across all your devices & computers (not sure about smart phones or which ones though). The bad side is your looking at some larger upfront costs to get all setup, but once done... your done! The way to look at it is after X amount of months no longer paying for your cable bundle its paid off and then nothing but savings.
