A6-5200

As a value priced laptop it is good and quick, terrible speakers thought, must use another sound source to listen to anything you want to hear properly. Came loaded with Windows 8 which I absolutely despise, worse than Vista. All my systems run Windows 7, think I will go find a copy of 7 and ditch 8.

Pretty Decent

Pretty good! Great for internet, watching movies, documents, and great size. I wish it came in black but it doesn't. Windows 8 takes some adjustments as I am used to Windows 7...hopefully I'll get it.

Very nice for gaming.

I play lots of games on this lap top and it works perfectly. I run league of legends on very high graphics and i can run black light retribution on medium even though it says that the video card wont run it. The only bad things about this laptop is that the speaker sucks and the keyboard some times doesn't seem responsive and is a bit hard to get used to. Other than that its a lite, good looking and good performing laptop.

Horrible experience

Bought the computer a few weeks ago, set it up for my kids as a Christmas gift. Set up ok but today when we took it out of the box for the second time the mouse pad stopped working and the computer could not detect the mouse pad. My brother in law who is a computer programmer tried everything to fix it but could not. Back to Best Buy tomorrow. Not a good experience when your kids are excited to get a computer for Christmas and then discover it doesn't work.

Toshba CD40D-A

Still evaluating. Good price for features. It has multi DVD. Keyboard seems to flex. Only supports SD card reading. I updated to WIn 8.1 from OEM WIn 8 but that created problems. After that I couldn't create recovery media. Windows 8.1 seems to have lost track of where the recovery partition on the HDD is located. Once you do that update, you cannot revert to Win 8 unless you have recovery disk. Better off to install Classic Shell to get a proper WIn 7 START button back. With WIn 8, you have to do an extra action because you have to return to the Start menu each time to do anything under the Metro apps.

Smallest Win8 laptop with CDROM, but noisy fan

I bought this laptop because it's the smallest Win8 laptop with a CDROM. My impressions are: I like white, because it's a happier colour than black. I don't want to buy an external CDROM. The keyboard flexes when you hit a key. The PC board isn't well-supported, I guess. The hard drive is kind of noisy. The data sheet on the drive says about 20 db, if I recall correctly. The fan is noisy. It's on almost all the time. I'm wondering whether to return the unit. It's hard to judge fan noise in thr store, since the stores are noisy to begin with and you cannot tell until you get the unit home. The keys have little travel, it seems, and typing seems kind of not so comfortable. I wish it had a full-size left shift key. Dell and one or two other brands still have a full-sized shift key. It has all the basic features you need to getting rolling, and no extra bells and whistles. I like that. The price seems reasonable. Not fantastic and not highway robbery. It comes with WIn8 and so you have to manually upgrade to Win 8.1 It takes a long, long time, but if you follow directions, it upgrades fine. Did I mention the fan is noisy. If the fan was quiet or not on most of the time, it would ber a slam-dunk 5 stars. You get an SD card slot only. That's OK, I only use SD. The CDROM is as fast as others I used. No problems here. The battery life when in actual use gives me a countdown from about 4 hours. If idling and doing nothing, it'll say more like 5 hours. I checked and cannot find an extended life battery (e.g. 8800 mah) anywhere on the internet. A shame. The unit goes to sleep when the lid is closed and as soon as the lid goes up. I'd rather the unit turn on when the lid is up AND you then hit a key. Speed is OK, nothing fantastic. I will likely get an SSD if I keep this unit. With only WIn8 and a few apps of mine installed, it uses up around 33 gigs of space on the hard drive, so getting a 128gig SSD seems fine for me.
