Great Router

Solid router. Easy to set up out of the box, great range, good uninterrupted signal on all floors of the house. I really like the ease of control from a mobile app. You can add a guest wifi separate from your home network, and can limit and see all devices connected to it with the touch of the screen. Would highly recommend.

Mesh works really well

With the latest firmware update these now support mesh. I picked up a second one and added it as a wifi point and my coverage issues have been solved in my house. I was looking to get Google's new wifi, the small white ones, but they can't be bought anywhere and they're only AC1200. The Onhub by TPLINK also has 13 antennas which is more than anything else that I've seen at this price point that supports mesh.

A Shaved Ape...

A shaved Ape could set this up....it's that simple. Bought it on sale to replace my D-Link which gave up after 3 years. It's a smart device so continually updates itself and the smart phone app allows me to see exactly whats going on with each device. Better range than I had before. I like it.

No More Shells

I purchased this because it's a Google product and Google tends to revolutionize everything they touch. I'm sure it's a great router, but why discontinue the tplink shells? I want to buy into Google philosophy and display this dead center on main floor (on decorative table next to stairs) bit it's navy blue! wtf, police uniform colour? that colour hasn't been in since....ever. The shells are nice but discountinued. Bring them back and get a full 5 stars.

Great coverage

I wanted a simplified router that would cover my entire house without having to constantly switch wifi connections when moving from one room to another. I was previously using a netgear ac1900 (R7000) with a netgear ac1900 extender to cover my 2800sqft house which worked fine but i would always have to manually connect to different network extensions when moving from one floor to another which was kind of annoying. Now with the google onhub i get full coverage in all areas of my house (all 3 floors!) with one single network. The speed might not be as fast as the netgear but with 4 people and close to 20 devices connected everything is running smoothly with no buffering whatsoever. Able to stream 4k on multiple devices at once with no problems! Setup was done in less than 10 mins and the mobile app serves its purpose. Hats off to Google for creating a decent product here. I highly recommend this router if you have a large home and a lot of devices running on wifi

Great purchase

Easy to setup with the iPad (ios) app. Nice features from latest firmware for iot devices. Wifi is strong on both bands and does push out the dead zones. Highly recommended for home use.

onHub Rocks

Super simple to setup, very nice interface, and it "just works" It is blazingly fast. My laptop is now maxing out the fiber speed (getting 160 mbps) whereas before I was only getting 80 mbps. The on.here functionality lets you control Philips hue lights from a browser - which is really nice.

Js

So, I think the Onhub is a great purchase for someone looking for something easy and convenient, the app is very simple to use with great features. But the routers signal through a home is weak, I live in a bigger than average home and I found it doesn't give me the speed I pay for (150 Mbps). It only gives me 3 percent of the speed in certain rooms. If you have a lot of coaxial outlets in your home for your modem, it may take some time to find the perfect location in your home for it to perform at optimal output. I have yet to find that spot. For some who isn't very technically inclined like myself it's perfect just for the app interface and friendly usability. I would recommend buying it on sale if you can afford to wait! Good luck! But it is a very sleek design which is great so you could place it in plain sight without it being a eyesore.

Best purchase in years !

Researched this on the net. Reviews were good. I bought for increased range and increased browsing speeds. It surpassed my expectations in every way. Great range and setup was sooo easy. Highly recommend.

Easy to use, great performance, but lacks features

The router was easy to set up and offers great performance. However, it lacks a lot of basic features that other routers have offered for years like parental controls and proper prioritization. It only allows you to prioritize one device and only for a limited period of time. It doesn't allow you to prioritize certain applications. My kids play online games (League of Legends and DOTA). And why can't you prioritize certain devices to get more bandwidth than other devices without strangling them altogether? The app works MUCH better than the Linksys app.

Totally worth the price

Great device, easy to follow setup instructions. The range improved in my apartment. I have not had to reset the cable modem or the router since setup. I love the android app with the devices graph, data throughput stats etc. Would recommend! :)

Google On App Does not work.

I am able to surf the web on 2.4 but not 5 due to Google On app stating system failure when trying to connect to the Onhub. Says to forget network . I forgot my network and restarted my device and each time it says system failure. This means i have no access to 5 nor any settings. The power supply will not plug in one electrical outlet due to the design and it does not fit all power outlets on my power bar either. Until google fixes the Google on app I would stay away from this router and go with another model that does not use google on.

Delivers on what was promised

I was very hesitant at first to even give this a try. I previously had an Archer C7 (1750Mps) router (amongst others) and while happy with the "peak" speeds, I found coverage was less than desired. The Google / TP-Link OnHub isn't the fastest router out there (though I think for the most part you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference) but in my experience, the coverage is FAR better than what I've had in my 4+ other routers -- including the Archer C7. Areas of my house where Wi-Fi coverage had previously been spotty are getting 100+ Mbs coverage from the OnHub now. The fastest speed I'd ever had was in the same room reaching 500+ Mps and the OnHub still hits that with same conditions...so AFAICT, OnHub is slightly slower but coverage (range) is far better. If that is important to you then this is a great router....If you prefer speed over range, then you may be better served by another make/model. One thing I will note is that setting up this router is RIDICULOUSLY easy and fast. It doesn't have the plethora if options that you'd get if running DD-WRT, OpenWRT or it's derivatives (Tomato) but "it just works"....Great router / WiFi AP

OnHub is Awesome

My parents are not very technical and when I told them I shipped them a new access point, they were worried about setting it up. My mom reported back that it was less than ten minutes between opening the box and surfing the web. The configuration app is solid and the audio-based device detection feature is really cool.

Awesome router.

This router is awesome. The range is outstanding and the unit looks great on my desk. One thing I wish you could do is name your devices in the list of devices online. I have 6 Samsung devices in the list and I don't know which is which because there all listed as Samsung. Over all this is the best router I have owned.

Fantastic coverage. Super easy to install...just plug in and it does the rest. Highly recommend!

Amazing Wi-Fi coverage

The options for managing the OnHub are fairly limited, compared to cheaper routers on the market, such as only allowing selected MAC addresses to join, advanced port-forwarding, etc. But it has amazing wi-fi coverage. I went from having poor signal strength between floors, to full signal. Definitely worth it if you need something basic to solve your wi-fi woes.

It does what it says

Set it up and enjoy, no need to do any configuration on the router if that's what you want buy something else. No more lagging or buffering unplugging and restarting routers, switch and PC, tried 3 routers from Shaw all of them have issues at my location, since I installed the OnHub there has been no buffering or lagging issues.

a pain to install

you need a google account and an android or apple phone/tablet, weirdly enough. I had to look it up online on how to open the thing, as I didn't want to break it - there's not even a hint on how to open the cover in the package. then, of course you cannot find the app by name in the apple store and you have to spend minutes finding links online to download it. Then of course the iPad refused to connect to the setup network... by contrast, the chrome cast was a breeze to setup. i wonder why...

Too Little Bang for the Buck

As you already know, it's a nice looking piece of hardware. It sets up easily, and it has improved wifi performance in some areas of my house. However, it costs almost 10 times what my previous router did. Considering that I don't buy routers for their looks, and that I have never had a problem setting up a home router, the only tangible benefit is the performance boost. For that kind of price differential, I expected much more. Perhaps, when additional features are added, it will prove to be worth the money, For now, I'm underwhelmed.

Suitable, but similar to Apple Product

Original Set up was ok. I use it with Telus 100Mb internet, and the speed has been reliable, but not better than my 6 year old Airport Extreme Base station (though it recently has failed, hence the purchase of the On-Hub). Has a feature to test the wifi connection speed, consistently 53Mbps DL and 10Mbps UL speed (though that is just over the wifi (device to OnHub, and not to the internet). Overall I do not regret buying it, but would not necessarily suggest it to others over another high end wireless router. (In the two weeks I have owned it, I have had 1 connection issue that required me to unplug it and let it rest for 10 minutes, as the 1 minute suggested wasn't enough. That reset got the connection back, not sure what the root cause was.)

The beauty of Priority!

Some of the features of this router is the bandwidth load balancing. Some people are confused with the performance of receiving the full mbits per second to one device. Actually the OnHub Router will share allocate the speeds to devices. Now, with the application it is possible to allocate the full top priority to one device if it was doing downloads, but could result on the loss of quality for other devices. In my case, we are 5 users, and my children love to videoconference or videogame, I can create schedules to allocate the internet priority to them but not compromising my netflix. This is the whole purpose of the Google Router. BTW the wi-fi coverage is way superior!

Works Well

Just what I needed to get our Telus internet working properly around the house. Three techs came a went and nothing solved the issue. This in five minutes fixed all issues around the house.

Halifax Owner very Happy!

The update took 5 minutes and my andriod phone synced fast! I can see all of my connected devices through the andriod application and I give the priority to what I feel is best. TP-LINK always gets positive reviews, their stuff works perfectly!

Great Router

Received this today and it is setup and working just fine. The simplicity and easy of setup was excellent. Coverage is awesome. Needs some additional available setting but I assume that will come in later software releases. A little more expensive than normal but worth it.

First impressions...

I admit, one of the weighing factors in my OnHub purchase is because it is Google. I use a Nexus 6, Chromeboo, etc. So when the OnHub became available I jumped at it. It is seriously easy to set up. Literally plug it into your existing modem (along with the power cord, duh) and download the app. Follow the app as it takes care of everything. Blue colored ring means 'GO'. It seamlessly synced with all my stuff. The app lets you know your internet speed (strength) and tells you how many devices are connected at any given time. Sure, there are cheaper wireless routers out there like the AP-Link Archer 7, but this thing looks GOOD and for no not-so-tech users out there....real easy to use. Big bonus. So far. So good.

Unacceptable Speed for the Price

I will start by saying that this router is beautiful, it looks good, you can show it off, and it is easy to setup. Now for the bad: The 5GHz and 2.4GHz radios use the same SSID and the router gets to choose which network will be best for you...it was almost always wrong. Throughput was horrible on wifi unless I was right next to it. Range was fantastic but that doesn't matter when it is always slow.

Deliverances for need of performance and coverage

Simply an amazing Router, and frankly unique. As a well educated engineer, I have not ever seen such a heavy robust solution for home. Google comes with serendipitous discovery by marrying technology and the beauty of innovation. I am today enonying of a strong wireless coverage and an amazing configuration tool OnHub. It's simply fascinating and unbelievable

Very easy setup. As for the rest, this router lacks many basic features that much cheaper and older Routers have. You cant change your DHCP or LAN settings. Limited to one SSID combined on the 2.4 and 5ghz. Can't set your channel, No DDNS support, USB is currently disabled and useless. It's very basic. IMO Google dropped the ball when this could have been a game changer.

Incredible Wi-Fi Improvement!

Just purchased one two days ago, the on hub iOS application facilitates the set up, but all the management features are awesome! It is said that Google will add more connected home applications to this strategy. Been connected with no interference is priceless. I no longer have death spots at home! and the streaming never stops. Probably the fact that has 13 antennas or the intelligence of the OnHub firmware. I wonder why the 4GB space, but maybe there are future developments at Google. I am not sure what would the USB port be for, have not tried plugging a hard drive yet... The performance is way superior than a conventional router, it is heavy almost 3 lb. Definitively an interesting gadget Router that differentiates from the rest.
