Defective item

I ordered this product online. The online purchase and shipping experience was good. After receiving the hard drive, I realized that the box does not look like the one on the website. The website shows the green box which clearly shows the "USB 3" tag on it. I received the blue version without any evidence on the box or the hard drive that it has USB 3 (except one little tag on the interface cord). The main issue was when I tried to use it. The device had an internal loose connection where the power adapter gets connected to the device. By any slight movement, the device was reset every time. This is not acceptable for a 4 TB external storage that is supposed to keep copying files for hours.

Great Buy

We ordered this for the sole purpose of extra storage room for our son's Xbox One. It literally took 5 minutes to set up and my son was adding games! Great Buy!!

best to the cord-cutters

this is one for the best 4TB External Hard Drive pair this with a WD-TV-player and twonky server and you will never need cable tv ever... with 3,720gb you can get 3500 movies or 10,000 tv episode ... and with not being helium-filled you dont have to worry about damaging it

Good drives, good service

I've purchased five WD drives over the past five years. One failed a few years on, I wrote WD, and they replaced it with minimal hassle. The recent Dropbox integration is a bit gimmicky, but don't let that deceive you: this is a decent product from a decent company.

Love it!

As a music composer, I have 1TB of sound libraries...It was very east to install & record all of my sounds to it, to use as a back-up...I would recommend it to anyone

Work as expected

I did a scan and no bad sector. Work fine and quiet. Very fast shipping and well well packed. About people complaining that it is not a 4TB but 3.6TB...well this is normal, whatever what disk or drive size you buy, there will most likely be some space used by a combination of factors: the operating system using some space, different units used while calculating capacity, or data redundancy. ;)

Good Experiences With This Drive

This is the 3rd of these drives which I have purchased. I own about 10 WD drives of various sizes and so far they all are still up and running. They work fine for both archival storage and media playback. If using for archiving, I highly recommend backing up the same data to a seperate drive. You never know when a drive is going to fail but inevitably, they all will.

Glad I bought this

So i got this bad boy home, plugged it in and it hooked it up to my Xbox One. 10 minutes later it was quietly running in the background and I haven't looked back since. I've had it for 6 months and I haven't had a single issue with it. If you can find this model on sale scoop it up.

Bought the drive to store extra large data files. (65Gig each). Works well. Have it for over a month now. Writes at about 25-30megs per sec for long continues writing that takes over 30 minutes to copy.

It's Okay

I have no use for all the extras, I wanted the hard drive, it works fine for me. If you want a problem, then the problem would be, stop calling it 4TB when its really only 3.5TB or 3.63TB to be exact. I can't rate any of the extras, because I have no use for any of it, I wanted a hard drive to store movies on, and that is all its used for. Movies from computer to DVD, and so far that works fine.

Great for price

I have 3 of these and they DO work with PS3, however, you need to format them as FAT32 not NTFS in order to do so. As such they won't hold video files over 6 GB but that's rarely an issue and is the case with any product hooked to the PS3. I have had Iomegas & Seagates which died but my WDs are still going strong.

I Never Review Stuff...

I never do reviews but this product right here deserves it. I have had my 4TB 'my book' for over a year now and hasn't given me any signs what so ever of failure or read/write errors, I have 700+ Backed-Up HD movies on it and there is still space for more. I'm soon going to go purchase my second one to keep all my TV show backups on.

MyBook Love Affair Turns Sour

Pretty Much useless. They outsource their cords to the cheapest provider and they dont work. Returned for a new unit and didnt work. Called company and they send a 4 inch replacement cord to replace the original 1 meter cord. Didnt work. As i have many of these hard drives I was able to use an old cord to test and the hard drive its self works fine. MYBOOK community has many people giving up on this company as they are cheaping out on what used to be a great hard drive. Still waiting for this to be fixed a month later and WILL NEVER BUY THIS AGAIN.

didnt work on PS3

I use my current hard drive (which is old, only 500mb, but still going strong) to store video files that I then play on my PS3. This particular hard drive did not even show up on my PS3. Also. I prefer an on/off switch. Which this did not have. Needless to say, it couldn't do what I bough it for, and it was returned the next day.

Nice HD

Easy to install and partition. Backup and other programs work fine but are much better with the purchase of the Acronis True Image 2015.

Doesn't work with PS3

Not sure why but it isn't compatible with my PS3, which was my main purpose of buying. Also, there is no on-off switch. It will be returned to the store.

WD Has always had reputable product. The price for the 4TB is perfect if you're looking to build up for your home media. Runs smooth, quite, and does NOT overheat. Great product!

Fast and Dependable

This huge-capacity storage device is particularly suited to archiving large media files like video, audio, and photo files, as well as backing up hard drives. File transfers are USB3.0 fast, as long as your computer and operating system are USB 3.0 compatible. One of these USB HDs survived a light bump; an equal bump disabled a USB drive by a different manufacturer, so I am quite pleased with the MyBook.

Better Than The Rest

I have many external HDs, all of the big name brands, but this one is by far my favorite. It's fast, reliable, and holds a lot of "stuff" :) I currently have two of these, and am going out to get 3 more - they're that good!

Good drive so far

Software didn't install seamlessly on XP as advertised but did fine on Win7. No matter since I already have backup software and need the drive for secondary backup storage only. USB 3.0 makes a big speed difference compared to my older drives. I've already had 3 Ext HD failures in the past so will have to wait and see how long this one lasts.
