Excellent laptop

I purchased this 3 months ago and am very impressed. The dedicated Nvidia 920m graphics card runs fallout 4 on medium settings flawlessly. I replaced the stock hard drive with an SSD drive and windows boots up in abut 5 seconds. The battery will last around 4.5 hours of regular use but when gaming about 1 hour to 1 hour and 20 minutes. All in all its the best purchase I've made this year.

kind of disappointed

this laptop has such great specs, which is why I bought it, but Ive only had it for 1 week and get so many errors. it just reboots on it's own. I bought this for college and I definitely can not have it restarting on its own on in the middle of a presentation or project. i also have a Geek Squad membership and i have called them about 5-6 times in the last week but the same errors keep happening. I really wish it wasn't such a disappointment. I will be returning this laptop.

Great laptop, had it for four months now

It is light weight and a very powerful machine. Windows 10 loads in about 10 seconds. I highly recommend a clean install of Windows 10, this reduces the number of programs to 5 from 40 or so, everything works so smoothly then. In no PC do you need any of that bloatware.

Good enough for Gaming Laptop

I was looking for an affordable laptop that's quick and has good enough graphic card for gaming. I came across a lot of good laptop, but most of them were unaffordable for me. At first, I was skeptic about buying Acer due to reviews about breaking down quickly, but that all changed when I bought this laptop on sale for 700$. The laptop worked fine for me. There were few times when youtube didn't work, but that was fixed after I updated the laptop. So far, this laptop can run Prototype 2 in medium-high graphic, StarCraft 2 in Very high graphic, and GTA V in medium setting. For $700 Canadian (even if it's not on sale), that's very cheap (considering the cheapest alienware you can get is [price]). The only downside is that this laptop is VERY heavy, but for 17.3" screen, I expected that. Just make sure to have a good bag for it. All in all, I give this laptop a 5/5

Worst laptop ever

I hate everything about this laptop. Cheap design, bad quality, loaded with garbage apps. Webpage keep stopping working in the middle of browsing. It's just full of crap. Wish I could've returned this trash. Rather spend more on a MacBook to save my time dealing with this nonsense. If you value your time more than money than stay away from this laptop.

Great laptop for the priice

After going through 2 Hp laptops in a few years I decided to look at Acer and intel. Haven't regret it one bit. A great computer. The selling point was the Geforce dedicated graphics card. The speed is quick, 12G storage you can't complain. Only downfall is i5 instead of i7 but that comes with a price increase. And a plastic shell not metal. But it you are using it at home or a desk it's not a big deal. It tackles the games and graphics easily. Others complain of the graphics driver fail, but that is preventable if you adjust the graphics card settings to run with the certain program or game. Each game for example is different. After a few settings it handles the hardest games, just short of a gaming laptop. I got it on sale so it made it even a better purchase. Highly recommend.

Graphic card keeps crashing.

I have already returned one laptop and received a replacement which is not much better. This one will also be returned. The problem is the graphic card keeps crashing and then recovers, crashes then recovers, the display then disappears or has black patchy sections covering the screen. I have updated the drivers and talked with Acer tech support but no solutions. Certainly won't be buying another Acer. This has been such a pain!

Great computer

Great computer for that price. I love it!!! Enough good for MMORPG game no crash no lag I got 4 games in it and I can run 2 at the same time with no slow down, very fast to launch, great graphic, great drivers, more then fair for this price, honestly no complain. My only issue is the scroll Mouse I had to get an other driver to make it work very easy to do.

Better than expected!

I got this computer on sale after my old hp died. I figured it would be good enough for games but it definitely surprised me when it could run the new COD; black ops 3 on high. Great for gaming and amazing for the price! The battery life when playing heavy games is only about an hour, but can last 6-7 when just browsing the Web. The computer (from what I've tried out) can run elder scrolls online, civ 5 and beyond earth, black ops 3, and skyrim really well. It can also run recording and music writing software really well. Only downside is the TouchPad isn't the best texture. Overall awesome laptop!

Very good for the price but don't care for windows 10

decent performance for price point

at its price point, the laptop provides decent performance and features. It is one of the few laptops that still provides a dvd drive and a devoted graphics card. The quality of the keyboard, trackpad and screen could be better. The keyboard feels cheap and the screen does not provide a sharp image. its colours are muted and no where close to being "vibrant". The trackpad is the most annoying thing I have encountered on a laptop in 2 decades. It is hyper sensitive and seems to suffer from a quality case of turrets. With dry figures, it will still act like it has been possessed and do random things across and to the screen.

Good Performance but...

I just bought this laptop and this laptop shows a great performance but the touchpad is very sensitive.

  • from Kamloops, BC

The touch pad was very sensitive and opened things for no particular reason. I contacted the ACER help line to see if it could be adjusted and they did not help and in fact made me feel unsure about the computer and the service from the help line. Based on this I decided to take it back, I also did not like the touch padwas not centered.

Good laptop, but wait for sale

I bought this laptop about two weeks ago. It was on sale for a hundred dollars off, and it's been good value so far. (I'm using it to write this review, in fact.) It can handle games like Euro Truck Simulator 2 at between medium and high graphics settings, which is very good in my opinion. It can also play games like Heroes of the Storm and Goat Simulator very well. The Nvidia GeForce 920M graphics card serves well, as does the 12GB of RAM. Overall, the performance is quite good. Not the best, but better than average. It is also very comfortable and quite light for its size. The keyboard is average for a laptop, as well as the trackpad. It also comes with a DVD drive, which is a welcome addition that is becoming rarer and rarer on laptops. My only complaints are the battery life (about 6 hours if you're just browsing the web, but only about 1.5 or 2 hours if you're playing 3D games) and the price. The nine hundred dollar price tag seems a bit much for what it gives you, so wait for it to go on sale for at least hundred or more dollars off.

Acer Aspire E 17.3

To date we are pleased with the function of this computer. Even though casing is not metal, the system is good. Faster than the one we replaced. Works well with our Canon printer. Has an internal disc drive, which we like, as we don't require an external drive. Keyboard is a little different, but easy to adjust to.

good value

was looking for entry level gaming laptop. overall I would rate a B+. I bought on sale for $750 or so. I've added a 240gb sd HD and its a big improvement in terms of load up speed pros: price, dedicated graphics, processor speed, build quality decent cons: battery life, screen is good not great, hd speed (sd is a good upgrade). would recommend based in bang for the buck.

Room for a few tweeks

I have had this laptop now for about 2 weeks. Start up is very good and it has all what I was looking for. SD card reader and 4 USB ports as well as HDMI output. Windows 10 is a plus and its a very good looking laptop. Runs very cool. What it does need is a few indicators to let you know whats happening. There is no NumLock light and no notification on screen to tell you if its on or off when toggling. No light for hard drive working. Did you ever wonder when installing a program if its frozen when it seems to take forever? That little blinking light tells you its still working. The power on and battery indicators are under the front of the laptop and hard to see. A relocation to the top of the keyboard would be nice. I am sure it would not cost Acer much to add these important features. All in all though. I am happy with it.

Good reliable computer for the price

Used for about 2 weeks now. Good for multi tasking and seems to be a generally fast computer. Only down side is that it sometimes take a while to start up however that may just be that it is doing a lot of system updates.

  • from Toronto, ON

Haven't had it long enough to make a good judgment

The only complaint I have so far is that the battery is HORRIBLE. Other than that I can't really make a judgment yet. Downloads are pretty fast. On startup it loads fast as well. There are a lot of pop-ups from the system but that's the new Windows 10 software, has nothing to do with the machine. Getting used to the new operating system, which is not as intuitive and simple as previous versions. For example: why is "My Computer" not available on the desktop as before? Anyway, back to the machine...essentially I'm satisfied but give a few months and we shall see how it holds up. They should really wait and ask people to review a few months after purchase.

Happy with my purchase so far

This computer runs very smoothly and quietly compared to my previous Ace Aspire, with greater stability. I bought it after Christmas and benefited from [price] off the price. At that price, this computer was the best available. One minor dislike is the positioning of the power plug in on the right side, rather than the left like my previous Acer Aspire. So far I have made the adjustment to Windows 10 fairly easily. This computer has everything I want ( I am not a gamer).

Acer Aspire E 17.3" Laptop

Bought just before Christmas. Acer set up was easy. So far so good. Comes with Windows 10 installed. This will need to be updated. The prompts are fine to do so, but the update will take some time. USB ports could be better located -further back from front to avoid getting in the way of other wires.(mouse, speaker etc.)

Screen Quality is medium

I bought, tried and eventually returned this laptop. While the specs are impressive, I was disappointed with the quality of display screen. The screen seemed a bit faded and fonts and colors were not as sharp and smooth as my previous HP laptop. Even considering the discounted price, it is a bit expensive laptop for me and I expected at least same quality of display as my older HP laptop.

quiet & reliable brand-name laptop

the machine is very quiet with 1TB internal HD, intel i5-6200u processor, 12GIB RAM, 2GIB Gforce Video RAM & Windows, nothing else can beat this config. for such good deal ($899 at original price and $170 price drop for the christmas season).

  • from Toronto, ON

great laptop

I bought this laptop on sale for [price]. For the specs I would say this is the best you can get for that amount. I did some modifications on the laptop and it became a really great machine. After the setting up windows 10 and creating a recovery USB and downloading a vanilla windows 10 installer from microsoft's website I then removed the 1 tb HDD and replaced it with a 250 gig samsung EVO SSD which you can get for $99 right now then bought a CD drive converter and removed the CD drive and replaced it with the 1 tb HDD that came with the laptop. I then reinstalled the windows 10 using the windows USB installer and downloaded the required drivers for this laptop on the acer website. What I get is a blot free laptop that boots windows in 4 seconds and runs like there is no tomorrow. I am planning of upgrading the ram to 16 gig to fully enjoy this rig so If you know a thing or two about hardware upgrades this is one laptop that you will be happy about. I am guessing after all of the updgrades it will make this laptop future proof by 5-6 years even on heavy graphic users like myself.
