Acer products have too many "Acer apps" that conflict with regular programs like Word. The computer starts slow ( no faster than my old vista machine) and freezes using Office programs, don't even try multi tasking and don't get me started on Windows 10! Seriously only 4 USB PORTS! And no Monitor output other than HDMI. Sad excuse for a computer and all I'm trying to do is run a home office.
very disappointed with this computer
have had to have it repaired a month ago and it was bought in Jan, 2016
now the windows 10 is not working properly again so it will have to be repaired again
I was very disappointed with this computer
I'm sure the computer is great but we can't use it because it's not compatible with our monitor...sure would have been NICE if it said in the description is doesn't work with the regular screw in monitor end and needs an HDMI monitor.
I thought by purchasing from Acer that it would be a safe purchase. WRONG. Had nothing but problems from the beginning and of course that was after the 14 days return policy.
I had to bring this in to the Geek Squad and was told it would have to be sent to Ontario for repairs!! And this could take about two and a half weeks! No temporary loan of a CPU was offered wither.
Then I get a call from the Geek Squad telling me it was repaired by them so went to pick it up and when I got there and they tried to turn it on it had the very same problem it had when I brought in. Then they told me they would try again but this would take 2 hours to "fix". So I went back the next day and it was still sitting there. So wasted another with no computer. I can't believe this poor customer service. So now it has to go to Ontario for repairs - WHAT A JOKE!!
This computer is the worst one I've ever bought, and the next time I buy one is sure isn't going to be an ACER.
Nothing but grief since day one. Slower than an old Lenovo Windows 7 machine it replaced that had inferior specs. Finds and loses all USB connected devices on a regular basis, from my external Seagate drive to 2 different cel phones. Freezes regularly and completely; and apps open at a glacial pace. This week, it added an unresponsive Start button that has to be cold booted to the daily misery, as restart becomes an unavailable option (which may be more just the execrable Windows 10, but whatever). As well, what I initially thought was an advantage - the small form factor - is just another disadvantage, as the machine is not expandable in any way. Acer? Never again at any price.
Got this on sale, for [price] and for that price it does seem to be a good deal. Coming with 8 GB of memory is a good thing, and it seems to be fine performance wise (the CPU is a little old, but for this price the CPU is just fine too).
My only negative comment would be, beware the Bloatware that comes pre-installed. It looked like there was a lot of badware there, so I started removing things, and then ran Malwarebytes on it and 350 programs were identified as "not being necessary" so those were all removed as well.
I think this is an OK price point for this system, but clean it up first before you use it.
I've bought two of these now (the 4GB and the 8GB model with WiFi) and both were to upgrade some of our current workstations. I liked them because each time I went to look at new systems - these were on sale. These systems do offer the minimum amount of peripherals plug ins, so just make sure you know what you'll be plugging into them before you buy them. The only negative thing I found is there is limited to no option for expanding its memory, or adding on additional peripherals. In short, great system just make sure you know what it'll do for the rest of it's system life.
With only 4 USB ports and no VGA connector this computer is suitable for streaming to a television but it's definitely not good enough for a general-purpose computer.
Thinking best buys staff would steer me in the right direction I got stuck with this product after telling them my 1995 PC was too slow to be used anymore and driving me crazy. This turned out to be just as slow if not worse. I can't even run Youtube and another program without it freezing even on a highspeed rogers network. On top of that it doesn't have the standard pci plug in for monitors and only accepts the new HDMI only monitor so check for that first your monitor is this. On top of that,. Yeah a lot of bad. It has like 4 usb slots. Not enough for the norm accessories these days. Buyer beware. I wish I got the name of the clerk gentleman who said this one was good. I always valued best buy but this steered me off of them for PC gear. Shame on you guys :(.
Have just had this up and running for a few days, but so far so good.
Performance is fine.
I'm not quite sure why the other reviewer stated no DVD drive. The super multi-drive seems fine.
My only quibble is with the keyboard: it seems pretty rinky dink compared to what I had before (I'm still debating using my old one).
Have no qualm with the performance of the machine, it runs Win 10 smoothly up to expectation (with no gaming). But ran into problem with my Office 2007, some time last week, an add-in killed the appl: anytime I tried to save, Word just crashed. Found out one add-in was Acer's ab Docs Office Add-In. Using CCleaner to uninstall the Add-in. Word is functioning again. This prompted me to uninstall all the ab appls, so far the machine run smoothly. (As the machine has no DVD drive, don’t throw away your machine with a DVD drive, you may need it to copy any appl that comes as a DVD (like the TurboTax) to a jump drive.)
Don't fall in the trap of buying expensive computers for things you don't need. I really like Acer (and Gateway too), it's the best quality/price ratio you can get. This is a great computer, much better than my 950$ HP. I installed 3 big programs: Dreamweaver, Photoshop and Corel. Everything is all good. The first thing you will notice is how small and quiet it is, yet so powerful. Startup time is incredibly fast. Before buying it, keep in mind that it has only 4 usb (2 in the back, 2 in the front). For your monitors, keep in mind that this computer has only 2 HDMI ports (no VGA or DVI) So be sure that your monitor(s) have HDMI ports or if you buy an adapter. You cannot have more than 2 monitors on it unless you buy a graphic card. And because it's a small computer, you need a small graphic card (2.7 inch width). Don't let Best buy sell you their "optimization service", which basically means installing windows on it. Just turn on your computer, and click on 'Next'. It takes literally 2 minutes. Don't buy a guarantee, you don't need one. You already have the 1 year manufacturer guarantee, that's enough. No need for you to spend an extra 200$ for 3-years guarantee. If you are looking at this PC, it means you don't want to spend too much, so believe me on this you don't want to spend more than you need. This PC goes on sale really often, it's usually at 500$, but regularly goes to $400. It comes with a keyboard and mouse too, which is great although it's cheap and probably worth 20$ for both (max). If you don't plan on installing the latest high-tech games, this is a great PC. I really recommend it, Acer is a great brand that sells only quality, no prestige.
Does all tasks I require from a PC with great speed. Like the small footprint and the price was right.
The DVD drive crapped out within 3 weeks of purchase. It would not open and my DVD was stuck inside for good. (Fortunately it was just an install CD for a monitor bought at Best Buy, which they easily replaced). Best Buy customer service exchanged the PC for another new one with no problems.
An economical entry level PC.
Has extra RAM slot (laptop RAM size) for expansion.
No USB 3.0 ports.
The 4 USB ports can fill up very fast.
No slots whatsoever to add extra internal HDDs.
A lot of unwanted bloatware.
Pro/Con (depending on point of view):
No VGA output; but 2 HDMI ports
Works amazingly fast, never had a problem with it in 6 months.
