Doesn't keep the rules / settings

I bought this from bestbuy based on the large number of positive reviews and at first I was very pleased and even recommended this to a few friends., but the rules that I set stopped working and even after resetting the device and reinstalling the App and rules it no longer works. Very dissapointed it's essentially garbage because I cannot locate my receipt.

Piece of Garbage

When these things work they work fine. Setting these things up is an exercise in frustration. Keep losing the connection with the device. Then you have to repeat again and again. They worked until there was a power failure but have not been able to reconnect. BUY SOMETHING ELSE

WeMo

Product was so easy to install! The app was a little difficult to locate on line, but it is an excellent item, IT WORKS and didn't give any difficulty with the Daylight Savings Time change...ie. came on at the correct time. Also sets up and works with the IFTTT app easily. Definitely recommend it. It is a 5 star product!

Works well with Alexa

Same comment here. It does work as advertised. I bought it expressly for Alexa. Setting that up works well also. Sacred me getting if the couch. Just say Alexa turn the lights on/off. Pricey however. Going the price cubes down. I would but a couple more.

It just didn't work well enough!

I bought this base on the decent reviews. However it did not perform well at all and was a big disappointment. I only gave it a 1/5 stars because it either does the job or doesn't. There is no kinda works. I have a Samsung edge and the app worked OK but had a couple of annoying glitches where I had to restart my phone and my wife's phone is a apple 6s and We had to pay for the app which ended up not doing anything. It did not even show up on the phone. So I think its a work in progress!

Blocks other outlet but works well

This device is so big that it blocks the use of the second outlet on a typical wall receptacle. Certain smaller 2-prong plugs will fit in the unused outlet, but 3-prong plugs, 2-prong with shock-guard plugs, and AC power adapters will not fit in the unused outlet. I simply had 2 devices plugged in the wall, and wanted to have one controlled by this device, had to also buy a power bar to do that (and it covered 4 outlet on the power bar!!). The install instructions were slightly incorrect, and the install process got stuck at one point, but restarted everything and found it actually had finished setting up. It also updated the firmware twice shortly after, leaving my device turned off after each update (it is normally left on all the time) and it did this without warning. There is a newer design of this device, same device, different shape, so it won't block other outlets on a wall plug or power bar - get that one. Sad it took them so many years to do that.

Exactly What I asked for

It is what I needed for the hard to reach spots for my light. Would have gotten 5 star if it didn't have the high screech first, but it went away so I wish I could do 4.5.

Happy with purchase

I bought about 6 months ago and it works as advertised. It took a couple of tries to get in setup initially but since then it has been quite reliable. Range is pretty good, I have it in a detached garage about 20 ft from the house.

Perfect

Bought one of this product. It works perfectly and as described. I could not be happier. I would like to address one thing though. I can see that there are some people having issues with these things. For one, you need to make sure you have decent network setup and a stable Internet connection. Most people are not network tech savvy which could lead to problems if people do not know what they are doing. People should not get discouraged from buying this product when people post negative reviews on how they are not educated on how devices communicate over the network. I understand the odd product may be defective but I doubt people's negative views on this product. I am extremely happy with this product.

Returning

Took forever to work on my phone; spouse for it to work. However it didn't work for the purpose we purchased it for. We had hoped we could time out electric kettle when we wake up and make out cofee/ tea and save 5 minutes.....However it didn't work out for us. We have no other use.

stay away

Bought this unit and set it up, worked fine for a few hours. The thing dropped off the wifi from a location I can get over 50mb/s on a phone or laptop. Range is trash, will work if you are right beside router, other than that its not worth it. Also, firmware wouldnt update. Avoid this unit and try a different one....that's what I have to do now.

Great Product

Picked this up on sale. I've been looking at these things for a while. For me it was about justifying the price. What I noticed about this model in particular was the sunset / sunrise feature. That is what made me commit. The product itself is great. the wemo software interface is horrible but.... It gets better! It's not intuitive really and some of the features are kind of hidden. When I first used it the app would crash everytime I turned a lamp on or off. I would raise my hand in anger and yell "Beeellllllkin!" into the air in anger. Then for whatever reason, perhaps an angel or perhaps the miracle of modern wifi standards I opened the app and it said it was doing a firmware update. I'm not an idiot and I was looking for an update menu before but to no avail. Thank heavens the update actually worked. Now it works much better. The software still isn't great. I finally got it set to actually turn on at sunset and turn off at sunrise automatically. There were some location settings and some software slides switches involved (Not very intuitive). The problem is solvable though with a little playing around. The app was sluggish too at the beginning. Today being day two (after a function test) the app is much faster and actually surprised me with being quite snappy. The hardware always worked great with no issues. I will rate this 4 out of 5 stars. The goal was to be too lazy to turn my light on and off as it got dark. That goal is now realized. Unfortunately the energy I initially put into the app has made me choose the 4.

Do your research.

Does not work with all wifi networks with their latest firmware, Cheaper devices with same quality and specs and work on all wifi networks are available.

Easy to setup and use

Works really well. Trick is not to upgrade after upgrade is released , odds are devices will have issues. Wait and upgrade after fix is released.

Last Upgrade made the difference

When the first software upgrade came out the device became inconsistent. The last upgrade came out and the device has worked seamlessly. Easy to set up! I hope to get another soon.

Very very very inconsistent

Not impressed at all. Wish I could give it a 1/2 star rating. Very finicky in setting up each switch (I had 9!!). Often they went "off-line" in my home wifi network. Took them all back.....best decision I made. IMO, DO NOT EVEN CONSIDER !!

Convenient, easy once set up

Great product - was a bit finicky to set up initially as was having trouble with router, however, a simple reset (unplug, press and hold 'restore' button while replugging in for 15 secs) and it was up in no time. Replaces the conventional light timer we lost - being able to set rules is much more convenient, especially coming back home to lights from a late evening shift! Get it while on sale.

Amazing little device

We bought two of Belkin's WeMo products, the Light Switch and the Switch and we couldn't be happier. We have had ZERO issues, no disconnections, NO issues with the app connecting. In fact, we have decided to buy more light switches in the future. The "Turn on at Sunset" feature is sweet and then we program the timer to turn the one lamp off at a certain time. For those of you being cautious due to poor reviews, you have to realize there were issues in the beginning (as expected) but Belkin is constantly working on their app and constantly updating the firmware on the devices. It gets better and better.

Recomended

As advertised. Generally easy to install, though I did have a few more difficulties with the associated light switch. Issues seemed to be with the mobile software- and reading online it would appear that it is primarily and android problem. Switched to ipad/iphone for setup and it was simple. Aalso works on blackberry, if you download the android app. Great product.

The Good and the Ugly

I have installed 4 Light Switches and 4 Plug In for a total of 8 Wemo devices. For the Ugly Belkin app and firmware has issues setting up multiple devices to your network. Once your all connected to your home network the smartphone app also has issues showing all devices, you may have to hit rescan a few times. For the Good when it works its a gem of a product. The light switches look very modern with green Wifi icon display. I have remote control of turning my outside porch/deck/living rm and bedroom lights. There are no monthly fees, just the one purchase of the switch. I'm sure Belkin will improve the app then a 5 star product.

Power Outage FYI

For anyone wondering what happens to these devices after a power outage, I can now say NOTHING. We lost power for two days during the ice storm and when it restored, our router was dead. The Wemo devices resumed functioning as standard timers using the rules previously set . Without the router, I was not able to see or operate the devices remotely. As soon as the router was reset, the Wemo devices re-appeared and are now functioning perfectly.

Works great

I use timers throughout my house both for the convenience and security of having lights turn on without me being home. This device set up within minutes without any problem. It is a very simple matter of following instructions. I use this both as a simple timer (on at sunset, off at a specific time) and to operate the lights when I am out of town to make my home look occupied. I did create a static IP address to ensure stability and have not had it disappear off my network once. I am now using three of these including one on my coffeemaker.
