Good compact 3-in-1

This is very similar to the DCP-L2540DW, but without the document feeder and ethernet port. I've read customer reviews that claim there is no USB port, but that is incorrect; you can connect the printer directly to your non-wifi computer with a cable (not supplied) that has a Type B plug on the printer end. Other reviewers have also expressed frustration with the printer not being found on the network. I suspect this has to do with the dynamic assignment of local IP addresses. The first thing I did after connecting it to the wifi network (easily accomplished with the router's WPS button) was to go into the router settings and reserve an IP address for the printer, so that it will remain static. This may not be a necessary step, but it's worth trying if you have problems. I agree with others that the LED screen is pretty pathetic, and the machine does clatter ominously when printing. But it's a good, compact machine for those who don't use fax (most of us, these days) or seldom copy multi-page documents. If you do think you might use a document feeder, the 2540 is not much more expensive and in fact is more regularly discounted than this one.

Perfect for me. Easy to use from many miles away. Your print outs will be waiting for you when you get home. I love this high tech stuff. Even though i am stupid when it comes to computers?

Oh Brother!!!

I purchased this printer a couple of weeks ago and am very pleased. It was easy to setup with clear directions - I personally like the pictures. I have used it to copy, scan and print from both my computer and phone. The quality of all three of these functions very high. The only complaint I would have is it is a little loud when it prints but this is compensated for with the quickness of the printing. With what I have seen so far I would most definitely purchase this printer again if I had the need. I would also encourage anyone who is looking for a monochrome laser printer to consider this one. You will get very good bang for your buck!!!

Awesome Laser Printer/Copier combo!

Replaced my HP inkjet multi after it died last month. Read some reviews of this beauty and found one at a great price, so took the plunge. Was looking for laser over inkjet as the consumables on the inkjet are too much hassle. Just needed copy and b/w printing capability and this has just what I'm looking for. Pulled it out of the box, set it on my desktop, connected my usb cable that formerly connected my HP, connected the power cable and installed the software. All was seamless and fast and was test printing in minutes. Dead simple and so far works as promised - which is GREAT! Can't speak to the wireless snafus as I'm all cabled here due to security concerns. Only con is the display could be lit and is kinda small for these old eyes. I'd reco this wonder to anyone in a heartbeat. Nice work Brother!

My New Printer

One major problem it took me 2 hours to set it up. The reason being I had no idea I wasn't pressing the actual start button. I kept changing plugs and cords and anything I could think of for why it wasn't going on. After almost 2 hours I sat there and looked at the machine and realized there was a little button on the left side at the top, with no name. I pressed it and what do you know the machine has 2 start buttons one that works and one that doesn't. I think the manufacturer should know about this. Overall great machine so far. Great price.

Nice printer but consumable expensive

We purchased this printer as an add-on for our office where it is used sparingly. This IS NOT an office printer by any means. Setup was easy (lucky we had a Laptop to connect) and is working flawlessly. The only downside is that Brother printer consumable are a bit more pricey and print fewer pages that other Lazer printers. This is why we gave it a 4 out of 5 overall score. Would we buy another one? Yes, if the volume of printing was the same. Any higher and we would definitely go with a HP.

Very good printer

The printer has worked well since set up except for the WiFi connection after a few days. The scanning feature would not communicate with the router and had to get Brother Support to assist. Also the basic instructions do not include the set up of the scanning and printing utility which provides many features. Overall very good value and goodbye to expensive inkjet refills.

Wi-Fi will not stay connected

I'm very pleased with the speed and output quality, but I have 2 kids and a wife always commenting on how this freek'n printer will not stay connected to our network, not even for a day! Frustrating to have to reboot the printer each time we need to print from it. I wish I could have said this printer is great, but I can't. Consider only if you plan to connect via cable.

great printer, but problems with Apple AirPrint

It took me only a few minutes to set up the drivers on my mac, connect to wireless router, and enable google print. However Apple AirPrint would lose connection every time the printer went to sleep, so printing from iPad through AirPrint or the brother app seldom worked. After a couple of days of researching online I learned that you need to enable IPV6 on the printer. I also assigned the printer a static IP address. One of the steps fixed the AirPrint issue (I think it was enabling IPV6), and now printing from iPad and iPhone works great. scanning also works great. it is a four star printer, but for making it so difficult to determine how to set up a popular feature I only give it three stars.

Great printer overall!

I bought two of these for [price] each during Boxing day weekend. One for myself and another for my parents. Printing is fast. Quality is good and duplex printing is awesome. Wireless setup is extremely easy IF your router supports WPS - basically just one-click and you're good. The router at my parents place doesn't support WPS, so it takes a little more time as you'll need to use the driver CD and a USB cable to hook up the printer with a computer first. My only complain is that the printer smells a little while printing, as if the toner is spilling ink. First i thought it was a defect, but it's happening to both printers that I bought, so I guess it;s the way it is.

Great Printer!

It's very easy to use. I need to press only 1 button on the printer and one on the wireless router to set up the wireless connection. The android application for this printer also is amazing. The printing speed is also good. The duplex printing also very good. Overall, I'm satisfied with the purchase.

Great printer, but I returned it.

1) it prints really good quality 2) kind of heavy and big 3) not too loud, but not quiet either 4) set up is not too bad i returned it however because coming from a smaller inkjet with a colour display with touchscreen setup, this is a small little analog screen that is frustrating to deal with. Not only that, the wireless is very hard to set up and always conks out on me and I have to go through the whole set up again (and again and again if it doesn't connect). Overall, hated the printer and returned it.

Works very well as anticipated.

The one area which I feel could be better is the display - monochrome and somewhat difficult to read. Other than that, was very straight forward to connect wireless to network, install toner cartridge, paper, and so on. I found additional toner at a third party vendor which convinced me to purchase this particular unit. Print quality is good, responsive to print request. I thought it was a very good value when purchased at sale price. Overall, no critical issues and very pleased with the purchase.

Good unit, but takes a long time to set-up

This is clearly a good printer, but I was not so keen on how long the set-up takes. Installing the printer driver via the CD drive takes way longer than the last HP product I bought (though that HP unit just decided to conk out, hence the need for buying a new printer). Part of the long driver load time, is that it includes a bunch of extras from Nuance that are likely not needed. To save time, one should probably do a custom installation, and not the default one.

This all in one is a steal for the price I paid [price]. The copies come out crisp and clean and so does the printing and the scanner works great. I set up the whole machine up in about 30 minutes. You won't regret purchasing this machine.

Brother DCP-L2520DW

Have an HL-2280DW also, which is a similar printer except without the air print feature for use with IPhone or IPad. It did work with my android phone. Unfortunately the toner cartridge needed replacing on the 2280DW and the L2520DW was on sale for essentially the same price as a new toner cartridge + it came with the air print feature. The wireless set up was relatively easy + the air print for my android phone was fine. Have not set up the Apple hardware yet but I assume it will be easy. PROs- the price point when on sale - if not on sale there are other options. -like the ability to scan to PC + it can scan in colour or B/W. Avoids need of a separate colour scanner. -reasonable amount of features + adjustments for the price point eg. 2 on 1 page, duplex etc. -overall print quality is good and quite fast -slightly quieter than my previous HL-2280DW -relatively small foot print CONs- Cost of new toner cartridge is essentially same price as laser printer. Hard choice to go green when new printer is same price as toner. -the display screen could be made brighter for better readability. Unknown is the durability of new laser. Previous HL had at least 6000 - 7000 prints and is still working well with good print quality.

Awesome Mono Laser Printer

Picked both the printer and replacement toner up on sale. Setup is easy and works flawlessly either wired or wireless as well as from your iPhone. Duplex printing and a color scanner and software makes for an unbeatable deal. I gave my 2 year old Brother stand alone mono laser to my daughter and got this all-in-one upgrade. Very easy to use and very efficient on toner and paper.

Great Value (if you can catch it on sale)

I don't usually write reviews but I was compelled to write one for this wonderful printer. This printer was easy to set up and the wireless options like AirPrint has been so convenient; I can print documents right from my iPhone. There's been complaints about the printer being offline sporadically but it still prints/scans just fine when you hit the print/scan icon. I recommend this printer to anyone looking for an entry level laser printer.

Great printer

Bought this for my home office. Admittedly, I don't do a whole lot of printing but often enough that it's become a nuisance to go to my nearest Kinko's. Set up took less than half and hour and that's due more to my lack of technical skill than anything else. I have no complaints

Works good for Mac

I picked up one on Black Friday. Unboxed, plugged in and manually configured the wifi settings from the front panel. It connected immediately no fuss. Installed the drivers from Brothers site for my Mac Mini running OS 10.10.5, seamless. The software configured the printer for me. Was able to print and scan within 15 min without even opening the included manuals. Positive experience so far. no complaints.

Does not work on MAC computers

I am returning mine this week. Can't connect on wifi. Chatted with Brother reps about 5 times. Installed new drivers, firmware, etc. Still does not work. The last rep suggested I talk to Bell about my router. Still no deal. This printer, on paper, suited my needs but if you own a Mac, stay away from Brother wireless. I will be looking for some other brand but certainly not Brother.

So far so good....

I like the printing, copying and scanning features and their quality too. I wasn't expecting the printer to be so bulky, but it fits fine.... The price was good and the delivery excellent and setting up easy. I still haven't figured out how to use the WiFi, as my router, like most these days, requires a "name" and a "password" to add the printer and no-where can I find out how to instruct the printer with these instructions.
