Bought this watch just a week ago and it really live up to my expectations...
Absolutely in love with this watch, was very impressed with the golf feature of it tracking how close you are to the hole, and being able to keep score, write on the wrist of your watch at pretty much any golf course well known. this watch has much more then just a golf feature, i have not tried any out but, am impressed with all of the different watch faces and apps, etc..
If you use Linux you may as well skip this device. To update it or to install any of the apps you need to install Garmin Express, which requires windows or Mac.
As far as I am concerned, anything that requires use of either of those is a waste of time.
It has Bluetooth access to your phone, so why does it need to be connected to your computer And require an additional program on your computer?
Needlessly complicated when most things can update over Wi-Fi.
I bought this watch to help me get back into running after an 8 year hiatus. It has helped me in ways I never thought! I’m mindful of my sleep, get up and move from my desk, I don’t keep my phone beside me as I can see text/email and will answer them later in the day. Awesome for running! The design is great and fine for a small wrist. For me this has been an incredible purchase!
The coolest thing of this watch is you don't have black screen all time and you can see time every time.
Battery life is amassing and I have it charged for 7 days up to now
I swim with this watch in the pool and it is absolutely water proof
Compatible with Iphone and Android phones. I tried for both of them
so light and comfortable
I love my watch
Didn't think I wanted a GPS watch until I had one. The battery life for this watch is great (two weeks). The watch is thin and comfortable to wear. It's simply to use. I've had mine for about 6 months.
Garmin missed the boat on this item. It really is a great watch/ fitness/ golf gps BUT the screen needs work. Great through the day but at night can't see the screen even when I hit the backlight button. I know this is to save battery life but I am very disappointed.
The pics of this watch from Garmins website are taken in daylight. The Vivosmart at a third the price but at least allows you to adjust the brightness. I'd sacrifice an extra charge session to have a screen I can see.
Used it primarily as a golf GPS. Worked great. Once course is downloaded, syncs up quickly and tracks well throughout the course. Keeps track of score and automatically changes to the scorecard as you approach the green. Very nice. Keeps track of steps too. Once you are in GPS mode, you cannot find out what time it is, or track weather, or anything else. It locks you out of other features. Otherwise, perfect.
I was looking to buy a new G-Shock but at [price] the vivoactive attracted my attention.
Faster than my garmin edge 520 for the gps locking.
Impressive battery life more than a week with occasional gps.
Sleep tracking is accurate, vibrating alarm is quite effective.
For the luminosity of the screen, you have to keep in mind that this is for better battery life. You can push the backlight button to improve the visibility in the dark...
You can configure the applications for different music player.
Notification is quite intuitive and effective.
You can find a beta app on the IQ store for a bike power meter... but there the garmin 520 is way better.
Good online platform with easy synchronisation trough strava.
light and confortable, the design is low profile so you can wear it in any occasion.
Overall I'm impressed
terrible lighting, always disconnects from my phone, battery life was only 3 days, step counter tracks steps while driving which defeats the purpose, everytime i tried to load a golf course it kept getting stuck on that screen and i would have to power it down. not worth the money
Bought myself the Vivoactive over Christmas (when it happened to be on sale for a great price). Wanted a basic smartwatch, but didn't want to pay a fortune and didn't want to have to charge it every day (ie. Apple watch). Also wanted one that would be good for tracking my fitness activities. The Vivoactive delivers on all counts: price was very reasonable; bettery life is great (depending on how much you play with it, one charge will easily last 2 weeks - but if you're using the GPS it's much less); it's very intuitive to use, especially if you're already used to Garmin fitness trackers; ties in to your existing Garmin account, so now I use it in addition to my Garmin 910XT for tracking running, cycling and swimming. Also paired easily with my other Garmin sensors (HRM, speed/cadence, etc). Easy to customize watch with different watch faces, apps and widgets. I love getting the daily tracking of steps, activity, calories burned and sleep cycles. Only downsides are the step counter appears to exaggerate number of steps (but that's not the end of the world); can read emails/texts but can't respond from watch; widget to control music play on paired phone is kinda lame. In spite of those minor drawbacks, I absolutely love the Vivoactive, and having now had the watch for a couple of weeks I can't even imagine going without it!
I have been very impressed with the Garmin Vivoactive. It great activity tracker. The only down fall is the screen could be brighter. Would highly recommend this watch.
Well I bought this when it was on sale over the Boxing day period and got a fantastic deal from Bestbuy.
But this is the best money I have spent, I got a GPS watch that does show time, links with my smartphone, pings me when email, messages etc. come. Also I can check the temperature ( only problem shows in Fahrenheit instead of Celcius) and way it is all good. It tracks my steps, calories used etc. Waiting to use it for my indoor activities. Using Garmin Connect which I use for my Garmin Forerunner 305 which I used for my road and mountain biking is awesome, The Dashboard shows all my actiivities and I can connect to myfitnesspal, and track calories burned etc.
Looking forward to using it for my outdoor activities and takeover from my Garmin Forerunner.
Btw: I could also use my old HRM strap from the Forerunner so I saved money not to purchase a new one.
I am really stoked, as it now also put me in challenges. The only thing that is missing is a Duathlon training plan.
I received my watch just over a week ago and I am nothing but impressed with it so far. Battery life is better than expected provided you don't leave the GPS feature on all the time. I love the free downloadable faces which allow you to make this watch feature whatever is important to you. I have no problem with visibility inside or out. I bought it initially for the golf course app but it has many more standard apps already downloaded on it and is so much more than just a fitness watch and at half the price of an Apple smartwatch. The only thing missing is a heart rate sensor and I don't intend to buy an optional strap to wear around my chest for that feature. I'm sure it will be an integrated feature on the next version and then it will be a watch that truly has it all, at least according to my needs.
I bought this watch after owning a Fitbit Surge for 2 days. This watch allows me to get all my notifications from my phone to my watch and track my run/hike pace which are all important for my job. The display is a bit dim, but when you activate the back-light there is no issues with viewing the information on the watch face. The apps available for download leave a little bit to be desired as I was use to a Samsung smart watch prior to looking for one with GPS but it's something that Garmin will likely be working on. Battery life is better than what I expected when just using it as a daily tracker but if using GPS it will eat it up some. I am extremely satisfied with this watch and am glad that I returned the Fitbit to get this instead as it offers a lot more functionality with the exception of an integrated heart-rate monitor.
Device has amazing features, battery life is OK not as good as reported from some reviews and easy to wear. Only real problem is the screen. Works OK outside and in good sunlight but is horrible inside. Don't get fooled by the bright pictures on the website. It doesn't look anywhere near that sharp.
If Garmin fixed this issue, it would be a very good device.
This is an excellent watch. Stylish/wear it everyday. Battery life phenomenal.
Built in GPS extremely accurate & fast, perfect to track my bike rides and runs.
Auto uploads to Garmin Connect/Strava.
Waterproof to 50m perfect to track my swimming & stroke efficiency and very accurate.
Even works well for indoor runs.
My only preference would have been to have better tracking for open water swims(indoor swims work well though)
