It does what my iPad should have done

What I was look for a different option to my iPad I look a a number of different possible tablets but when I settled of this I realized what I was missing. Don't get me wrong the iPad is great but the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet does things the way things should be. The calendar and email synchronization done right, the little things like spacer for misspelt words in url address just works right. Also I found out that if you want one could install a 64gb micro SD card and it will work, just format it correctly, I'm thinking to try a 128gb

Not Worth The Hassle

This is my second tablet like this in 2 months. Don't get me wrong, it's an amazing tablet, but the awful battery life and overeheating get old fast. The first one I sent back for these reasons, and was told by Best Buy staff that it shouldn't be happening and they would order me a new one. I got the new one a few days ago and I'm not impressed. The same issues I had with the old one are occurring with this one. I can manage to get a days worth of battery life out of it, but only if I put it on power saving mode, turn of WiFi, and constantly use an app to close out applications and programs that are draining power. I don't understand how the battery can be draining so fast when I only use it to play casual time management games for 5 minutes at a time! And on the issue of it getting really hot, even as I write this review, I can already feel the tablet getting hot to the touch, and this is the only thing I have used it for, for hours now! I did my research before purchasing this tablet, and was excited with all of the amazing reviews! Not once did I read a review saying it had these problems. Since getting the tablet I've done more research and have only read of like, 2 cases where someone else has had these problems. Maybe I just somehow got two faulty tablets in a row? I don't know, but at this rate, I don't know if I'm going to chance it on a third one.

Nice Tab

The pen makes this the Tablet I always wanted. This is a great machine. The battery burns down a little quick but overall everything I hoped for. I navigate with the pen too. that keeps the screen really clean.

It was great for a while...

I was in love with this tablet for the first 4 months I had it. Then I started having problems with the screen flickering, and spontaneous shutdowns and reboots. I sent it to Samsung for repair 3 times already. The first 2 times it came back with the exact same problem still happening. My tablet is still out for repair now, and I have been without it for over 1.5 month since the first time I sent it. I don't have much confidence that it will be fixed when it comes back for the 3rd time. I am losing faith in the quality of this tablet, AND in the quality of the Samsung service facility.

Product Review - Oct. 14, 2014

Would I recommend this product? Oh, yes. Yes I would. I had been waffling for a few months about getting a tablet that would let me armchair-doodle instead of hunching over my workstation like Quasimodo with a slipped-disc. After talking with some artist friends who have long since ditched their ipads, and looking at a lot of reviews written up by Ray Frenden, my choices came down to the 8" vivotab - so I could run Manga Studio 5 on a Windows machine, or the Note 10.1, and most of my artist friends raved about the note. After looking at cost, size, tech specs and such, I decided to go with the Note 10.1 for 2 reasons - I had found more reviews [good and bad], and it was a larger screen. I foresaw myself squinting at MS5 looking for icons on an 8" screen. Downsides: 1: Lots of Samsung / Galaxy Apps bloatware that you can't disable unless you crack your machine [I just choose to ignore them, and set them to never auto-update, and ignore notifications]. 2: The time-sink of shifting all your gear from other tablets or PCs or whatever to the new tablet. There's no NFC, which is a shame, but there's apps in the Play Store like SuperBeam to get around that issue. 3: Playing games or running apps like Sketchbook Pro[included with the machine] lets you know right away where the heat-sink is on the machine. it gets hot fast, but it cools off fast, too. 4: Style - this is where Samsung seems to determinedly fall short. The weird faux-leather / naugahyde backing provides a tactile sense, but it's still a plastic-y sensation. The Iffy: 1: Battery - things like twitter, tumblr, crackbook, don't kill your battery too badly. Sketchbook Pro, or games like Hay Day - they eat the battery pretty quick, expect to lose about 10% roughly every 15-20 minutes 2: The stylus - it's nice, but some issues stand out - and this is really more program-specific, because it doesn't happen in every application, but if you use the stylus for input, sometimes you can't go back to using your fingers until you're on a new page or the app refreshes. Also, again - mostly program specific - when you get close to the edge of the screen, sometimes the stylus doesn't register - but that'll be more the limitations of the digitizers than anything else. This isn't a crazy-expensive Cintiq the pro-artists and game studios use, after all. The Great: 1: Lightweight - ignoring numbers, because who "feels" the difference between 15 grams or 20 grams in their hand? This thing is sleekly lightweight, but solid enough that a stiff breeze won't tear it from your hands 2: Processing: Going back to the resource-monger that is Sketchbook Pro - even with 15 layers of multi-coloured things and large-brush use, it responds quickly and nicely, as expected. 3: Size - it cradles in your forearm, on the arm of a couch or comfy chair, like it was made to do this. Despite a 10" screen, it's not as unwieldy as people think. This is a tablet, after all, not a smartphone. 4: The Screen - bright and adaptive, or set it to your own preference, colours are crisp and rich without being obtusely vibrant or blurry, small details are easy to notice and with the native resolution reaching the other side of HD, you can enjoy the detail you'd want from a TV on a screen in your lap.

Very impressed.

After using the Note 10.1 2014 Edition for about a month, I am very pleased and impressed. The overall performance is great, and the screen is simply gorgeous! I didn't quite know if I would really like the pen, but now I find myself using it all the time. It's of course great as a pointer, but it is also brilliant as an input device. I take notes with it, and the handwriting recognition software is much better than I expected. The action memo, S Note, and Scrap book apps are great productivity aids. In fact, I wrote this review using the pen in my own handwriting, and it worked like a charm.

Really happy with the purchase. Worth every penny. Fast, nice visuals and easy to set up right out of the box, specially if you are already a Samsung user with an account. Heh, even the sound is pretty decent! Can't wait till I get my hand on a Samsung 4K large screen tv, once the prices go down that is :( , to hook up with this tablet. Should be a dandy. Samsung has made me a believer. Now, send me some discounts Samsung, for all this rosy remarks, you hear ;)

Love this Tab!

The graphics are amazing. Battery last actually for much longer that I expected. The best part about this Tab is the pen. Extremely convenient doing different tasks. Even is someone gave an I pad for much cheaper prise I would take the Samsung galaxy note 10.1 2014 edition without even thinking twice about it. Most definitely recommend it.

Samsung galaxy note 10.1

I like the performance of this tablet, although my previous tablet which I bought last year GT-N8013 head the control buttons on the screen which made handling the tablet without accidentally pressing them. If not for this "modification" I would have given this tablet 5 stars. I am looking forward to see the megapixels on the camera increase.

Good for students, artists, businesspeople etc

I am a student and I found the S pen extraordinarily helpful and the entire tablet experience to be amazing. The screen is absolutely gorgeous, and I have been able to do most things I need to with just the apps already installed. That said, there is some bloat ware in the Samsung apps section that you cannot uninstall, which is mildly annoying. The other issue I have noted is that fairly rarely the app I am using will stop working for seemingly no reason and will have to shut down. Other than that, A+ tablet that is very easy to use and the S Pen is marvelous.

Best tablet ever

The Exynos 8 core processor goes greatly along with the three gigabytes of internal memory the tablet has amazing feature like s-pen and all of samsung's amazing air view and gesture technology. By far one of the best tablets of 2014. I would recommend this to people who would like an extremely fast and efficient tablet with amazing features.

Love this tablet!

I just love this tablet. So much thought put into designing this product, it is just amazing. One of the best screens on the market, very powerful hardware, handy s-pen functionality, multiwindow, etc. all great features I am using every day. One thing to note is Android 4.3 memory management. It is not very well optimized as it likes to keep a lot of stuff cached. It managed to run out of all 3G of RAM on few occasions and then tablet slows down. Once Android 4.4.2 is available (which is any day now) for this device problem should be gone. For now Autokiller Memory works very nice to keep RAM always available. No stuttering at any point and not need to root.

Best tab for playing Flappy Bird! I had the prev note tab and liked it but this one's much faster and a joy to use. Pen is awesome. Everyone that sees me using it wants to trade their I pad in for one. Download the help file though as some features are not obvious but are worth discovering.

amazing

I was always a android/Samsung fan. And now I know why. Amazing product. Fast. Light weight. Only problem is, I can't find a way to connect my external HD to this, there's only 2.0 connectors . And finding accessories is difficult maybe because it's new and sales reps are just absurd. Majority of stores are sold out of accessories but I'm highly on the look out for usb connector. Also, finding a keyboard for it. Where as everything is made for the iPad or Microsoft surface. Overall, great product.

Excellent

I've owned iPads and other Android tablets and this is by far the best quality and best android experience. I really don't use the S-Pen but I love the speed and display. All of my apps run fast and I am extremely impressed with the build quality. The screen is absolutely gorgeous. The only problem I have with the tablet is battery life. Seems a little short to me but lasts a few days with moderate use. This tablet is a little pricey but well worth it considering the specifications. The Note 2014 is currently the best tablet on the market.

Awesome tablet

I am one of the lucky few to own this device and must say I'm blown away at how well it works. The screen brightness is beyond bright and have yet to use this at full brightness. Battery life is great compared to my previous device. In an earlier review someone mentioned no HDMI which is not the case. Prurchase the Samsung MHL cable on bestbuy.ca and you are in business. Cable also works for smartphone so being a bit pricey compared to others justifies the cost.

Woww

Got myself an ipad air and loved it but then my brother got this and i switched over within a couple days, loving the screen its a lot better than my retina and so many cool software additions, really useful for me as a student as i will be taking my notes on this, the pen is a thousand times better and more accurate than a regular stylus with an ipad. 4 stars on performance because there are some very minor software issues that i hope will get fixed soon through updates. Overall better value for my money than an ipad im very impressed as its my first android tablet and so glad i switched!

Pricey

This tablet is pricey and if you install certain SD cards it will go into a start up loop, and you MAY need to reset the device and loose ALL the settings you had before. Screen is brilliant and ease of use is adequate. You need to download the manual(100 pages) from the web to understand some of the deeply embedded functions and to figure out how to avoid the dreaded start up loop problem.

No Black in Canada yet..huh?

I love it..the resolution is phenomenal, the colors are perfect and the compactness is unmatched.... The stylus works perfectly .... the battery can go a full day depending on how you use it..I recommend turning off the GPS unless you really need it, that helps save battery The sound from the speakers are great as they are place in a perfect spot the bad thing is that when I look at any other tablet, I can't bring myself to buy or even look at it for a long time cause there is no other Android or even Windows tablet that beats this 2560 x 1600 resolution Pricey but well worth cost....

Excellent tablet

I have switched from iPad after 4 years and found this the greatest tablet ever. It performance, style value is the best among all tablets. One small issue I am facing so far is slight delay every time I turn the tablet on. It bothers me a bit, but you'll get used to it. I hope Samsung will fix this soon. Otherwise it's worth buying.

the best one

I have this note, and I have bad experience to get it, but this is about product, not customer service. The tablet has nice touch, very important - good quality speakers, perfect screen, extreme featuring, and in a good price range. Compere to another tablets, is the best choice to get more for your money. Only thing is the charging time, but it has 8 core processor + high resolution screen, so required a large capacity battery, so it's ok. Otherwise I will recommend for everyone to buy it.

Simply the best!

I got this tablet a few weeks ago and loved it from the start. I am no stranger to the Android operating system, but this thing has so many more features that I'm learning something new every day. The only thing I wish it did have is an HDMI port so I could watch movies through it on TV. The available wireless HDMI hub is an additional $$, a bit steep on top of the price of the tablet.

Galaxy Note 10.1 2014

Great screen quality, pen stylus implementation. Nice sound and overall design. Disappointed that Adobe Photoshop Touch was NOT included with this edition. Memory footprint seems a bit large for Android - with only the OS loaded it's at 1.7G of RAM. My Windows 7 machine takes 1.3G. Overall it's high quality but pricey.

Greatest. Thing. EVER.

Bright, beautiful display, unparalled features, and impressive power contained in an elegant lightweight package. The S-pen and all its accompanying features are unparalleled in versatility, making a number of things simpler (note-taking, drawing, even navigation, to name a few). The built-in speakers have surprisingly excellent sound, making it a delight for entertainment. As a nifty bonus, it even functions as a universal remote with the included Samsung WatchON app. In short, this is a powerful and versatile tablet with amazing functionality.

Wonderful evolution for Samsung

I did a lot of homework, both on line and in person looking for a tablet with the best balance of features. This Note 10.1, 2014 Edition is what I finally decided on and I have no regrets. Beautiful screen quality, blazing fast processor. I did not think the S Pen would be much of an advantage but after checking out some tutorials I began to find all sorts of uses for it. Having changed over operating systems, I did have a few stumbles here and there but they all worked out in short order. It is a bit pricey, no doubt but this tablet has all the bells and whistles and lives up to its hype. I read many complaints about the finish being "cheesy". That is just not the case, ( and I am very particular). It is slim, light, easy to handle, and looks just as attractive as any other in its class. I will be bringing it with me everywhere I go. Love it!

Unit with Potential!

Bought this with interest in the stylus set-up. It does handwriting apps very well if you want to get away from paper use. The screen is great although it is designed for mainly landscape viewing. It's a bit awkward using in portrait mode. For all those worried about the lagging on this unit, I would not worry. Samsung's Touchwiz UI is stressful to the tablet but with a few optimizations it works fine. I will state that it is not as fluid as an Apple iPad Air or iPad 4 but I think also is because how iOS 7 is designed versus Android operating system. Lastly, I am finding Android apps bit lacking versus iPad apps. Many apps feel magnified phone apps and not design for tablet use. I am hoping Android Google Play store does some catching up.

I use it for school. It organizes all of my PDFs and allows me to edit them with premium software that is included with the tablet. I can record the audio of mu classes while taking notes and my grades have increased This thing is power sleek and efficient. Very well designed. Other students are constantly looking over at my tablet asking questions I love this thing so much I bought the note 3 and now I'm just laughing at everyone else who is stuck in the stone age.
