just saying, maybe it was!!1
there is proof
I bought this while on sale for my ex-wife and she absolutely loves it! I got to play around with it, asking questions and requesting songs. I think it's a cool item to have around the (her) house.
The sound quality is amazing for the size of the speaker.
Regardless of the price, I highly recommend this device to anyone.
I have my google home for awhile now, so far I have no problem. I love the sounds for a small device yet sound is amazing except I have limited request of songs due to I’m not Spotify subscriber but at least I still can listen to music for free. I’ll give it, 4 stars. I bought another for my best friend’s bday present as she want it. My sister has one too.
I purchased 2 Google Home devices at a Best Buy store. I've had nothing but problems with them ever since. My home devices are always "not available right now" I set them up according to instructions at least 4 times, works well before bedtime and does not work in the morning. I bought an Alexa it has never failed me yet. Google assistant is programmed to sound cool, eg. "Hey, Google turn on bedroom lights" answer "Hey you got it!!, turning on bedroom lights". Alexa says "OK turning on bedroom lights" A small complaint but after many responses, Google Home is very annoying. Alexa is the way to go.
I just bought a Google Home yesterday and was able to set it up in a matter of minutes. I'm not techy at all - so I was thrilled with how easy it was to get this going!
I bought 2 Google Pixelbooks from Best Buy Kitchener in early December 2017. They were supplied with a promotional Google Home. Since early December 2017, the Kitchener store has had none of these Google Homes available in stock while most of the time they have been available online. I've checked so many times that I've tired of doing so any more. My rain checks only allow purchasing in the store that supplied the Pixelbooks and also state that the store will contact me when they are in stock. This is almost 3 months now. Why are they available online but not in the store?
I thought this product would be pretty cool for my family so when it became available I bought it online, accept I wouldn't know because it would never let me setup the product. I had contacted google home support and they tried to blame it on my internet at home and didn't help me at all, they were suppose to call me the next day and see if I fixed the problem and I never got a call back. I would never buy this again or tell my friends too. The product was 100% not worth the money.
Wanted a second one just after Christmas but there was 'none in stock, funny there are now loads available at the full price. A cynic might think......
As a retired senior there is not enough to say about this product!
Electronics was my career and 50 years ago no one would believe this would ever exist!
It works as described and above that sound quality and response to voice command is perfect!
Just a truly unique product!!!!
Bought one during boxing day to check if l like it. After a few days of playing with it I love it so much and bought two more. I use the Google Home mostly for listening to music, radio and control my TP-Link lights and Nest thermostat. The speaker sound is great for music and I have signed up for four month trial from Google Music. My wife used to listen to her music through her iPhone's little speaker with limited songs now she learns how convenient and much better to listen her music through Google Home and with its millions of songs available by just saying "Hey Google play ...". Well I guess I have to subscribe to Google Music after my trial period ends since it is hard to go back to the old way. Of course Google Home can do a lot more other little things like setting an alarm, checking the weather, play little games with your kids etc.
I had high hopes for Google Home after the guy at Best Buy told me that it would hook up to any speaker. Oh great, because I just bought an Altec Lansing LifeJacket 111. Well, it doesn't hook up to that, and may never hook up to regular bluetooth enabled speakers. Also, I find that most of the simple questions I ask about weather, road conditions etc. get a, "Sorry, I'm not sure how to help with that yet, but I'm learning" or something to that effect. I guess if you don't have a computer you may want this, and I'm sure the automated home products are great to control. I find that it's easier to use Siri on my iPhone or MacBook and they booth pair with my blue tooth speakers. So, if home automation is your ultimate goal, and you also don't have any blue tooth speakers, then this may be the product for you. You can buy your Comcast speaker and your wifi devices and control everything thru Google Home.
Its Good And Helpful For Homework And More But Has Good Subwoofer Quality In It Has Chromecast Built In Wow Awesome
This Google Home works perfect. I have the Chromecast hooked up and my Wemo plugs. Sometimes I have to retrain my voice but nothing is perfect. I have 1 Google Homed and Google Minis all over the house. Looking forward to the release of the Google Max.
After 4 weeks of using the Google Home, we are loving it. Here are some of the things the family is using it for:
KITCHEN RADIO - We did a kitchen renovation last year and removed the old under-cabinet radio. I was looking for a new radio to put in the kitchen, but could not find anything that looked good or they were all overpriced. I discovered that the Google Home device is integrated with the TuneIn service, which streams radio stations over the Internet. Perfect, I now have my kitchen radio. You can be in the kitchen and say "Hey Google, listen to KISS FM, or 1310 News or whatever Canadian/US radio station you can think of and it will stream it. You can tell it to 'turn it up' or 'turn it down' for volume control, so you never have to touch it with your fingers. Best of all, it looks nice on the kitchen counter in the corner.
Accessing the TuneIn service to listen to radio stations is free.
MUSIC PLAYER - if you not want to listen to radio stations, the device comes with a 4 month Google Music subscription, so you just need to say "Hey Google, play classic Christmas music' or ' jazz' or 'dance music' or 'play music by Rihanna' and it will play the music from Google Music streaming service.
NEWS - you can configure it to pull audio news from various Canadian news services. Then you say 'Hey Google, how is my day', and it will tell you the weather and the latest news from those Canadian news services. You can also pick US sources like Bloomberg radio etc..
TRAFFIC - you can ask it how long will it take me to drive to work...or a specific address.
GENERAL QUERIES - ask it any question and it will go do a Google Search for you and tell you the answer. For example, 'what time does Bestbuy open' and it will tell you that for the nearest store. You can ask it for recipe and it will walk you through the meal prep step-by-step.
MULTI-USER SUPPORT - it supports multiple Google accounts and it can be trained to recognize a voice and tie it to a Google account. This is needed when you have two different people asking it 'How long will it take me to drive to work'.
MULTI-ROOM MUSIC - we have a Google Chromecast Audio device connected to a speaker upstairs. You can configure Google Home to create 'speaker groups' that allow music to be streamed throughout the house or to a specific room.
NETFLIX & YOUTUBE INTEGRATION - with Google Chromecast Video device connected to your TV, you can verbally tell Google Home to 'watch movie x on the TV in the family room' and it will stream the movie/video from Netflix/YouTube to that TV.
SPEAKER PHONE - you can use it to make 'hands free' outgoing phone calls (US-CAN only). It uses the Internet to make the phone call, not your home phone or cell phone.
It also can be used as a classic Bluetooth speaker so you can play music from your phone on the GoogleHome's speakers, but we rarely do that.
In summary, we use this device everyday. In my opinion, it is best to put it in an area like the kitchen where it will get used by everyone in the house.
Super deal when it is on sale. I got one of these and three Minis and they all work perfectly. It is amazing what you can do with this Assistant. The sound quality is very good for a speaker of this size. Check out my full review and installation video here: https://youtu.be/lbxuKVrp-R0
The Google Home App is great.
You want them, order them, have a differed purchase coupon, but none in the whole country! That's a deal!
Now that google app has an updated functionality of allowing Bluetooth connection instead of wireless connection, you can have any Bluetooth enabled device connect to it. You also don't have to worry about a google play or spotify subscription if you want to stream music. You can use bluetooth to stream youtube audio or a third party music app. Good mic range too and can search almost anything.
Overall, really good sound quality and bass but I dont think its worth the 180 dollar price tag. Wait for it to go 50% off and buy it during the holidays since some features of the Home are lacking unless you get a smart home device compatible with it and since it is not a wireless speaker, it requires an ac adapter. Im not too big of a fan of the design however and I like the google home mini design better
I was disappointed with this device. I suppose it's okay as a juke box but that really requires a subscription to Spotify or Google Music. When I requested that the device play a song from YouTube, it said that I needed a subscription! Well actually I don't but the device does. To me, the sound was good but then I'm not a big music fan. I thought it might be interesting for retrieving information. I asked it to provide info on Sigmund Freud. It provided some basic stuff from Wikipedia. When asked for more information, it simply spoke the same sentence. I also found the voice on Google Home to be grating after a short while and I saw no way to change it. Most of the things it does, I can do better with a few keystrokes. The technology is interesting but I decided to send the device back. Not worth it to me.
Wow, this is a pretty amazing device. Crazy fast response, amazing voice recognition. Fun and useful for the whole family.
Speaker has decent enough sound, obviously won'y compete quality speakers, but good enough for most uses.
I picked up the Google Home on Black Friday @BB. It was fast and easy to setup. Our family demoed it in the kitchen during dinner and everyone was very impressed, I have never seen my wife smiling so much at a gadgets capabilities, The sound quality is great for it's size and can easily fill a room. Next we set it up in our living room with vaulted ceilings that open to the 2nd floor. Not only could we hear it throughout the house but more importantly it was able to respond to us. we were able to play music from google and spottily as well as listen to local stations with Tunein I also sent video to Netflix and Youtube on my nexus player. The info features like weather, traffic news etc work great and can be customized to the voice making the request. You can also send recipes to it and have it read back each step. It also has over 50kids games and 43 adult activities. Though not all are supported in Canada yet. Overall my wife and kids love it and so do I. It is the new essential home gadget.
I believe the product to be great, however Best Buy says, we will sell it to you for so and so, however we have none in stock, and you can't reserve it either, so you will pay more later.
I bought google home 3 days ago and it’s just amazing. Some people say it’s the same as the phone Google Assistant but it’s not. The sensivity of the microphone it’s just amazing, i have it in my living and it can still understand me all the way from the kitchen. Plus I am no more using my speakers for music, the sound on google home is really good as well.
Good luck getting it. London, Ont stores will not answer their phones on Black Friday and Boxing Day sale days. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE.
Product in stock-NEVER , unless you have no life and line-up at 2-3am in the morning. online orders-website will tell you - cannot reserve or order.
Sale Dates -Don't even matter as you will not get the special price. They hold stock till after that date and tell you the sale ended prior to their shipments arrival.
It would be great if it was battery powered !!!!!!
I got my Google home yesterday, and i love it,
It tells you the weather and news and plays music
and for you guys that say that it does not sound good , this is not a bose system. What do you expect for something that is under two hundred dollars.
if you want better sound go buy a bose system then...
I'm very impressed with this unit. I have automated all the lights and plugs in my apartment with this. It picks up my voice just fine anywhere in my place as long as you turn your TV and stereo down when speaking to it. It has great sound for such a compact item. I'd recommend it to anyone.
Great little device to control your smart home and casting music to you home theater. For those saying the sound isn't great, you've got to put this into proper context, this isn't something you would bring to a party and expect to dance to. It searches Google's play service via voice command and you can have a little fun with it too!
It helps if you're other devices are connected as well such as Phillips Hue, Chromecast and Google music, but it's still a useful gadget without all that.
Great product. Buy it!
I got this free with my Google Pixel phone roughly six weeks ago.
I had enough of screaming at full volume at it from a foot away (no exaggeration) for it to work. Just packed it up this morning and took it to the local electronic recycling station.
After the initial 'honeymoon' period asking it silly questions it just turned into a fancy kitchen timer.
If I paid for this I would have returned it immediately, instead I wasted too much of my life trying to get this device to work smoothly.
I will say that it sounded OK for a single speaker, lots of boom but the highs were very muddled, like listening to a speaker underwater.
Google says AI is the future, the future looks pretty bleak if this is what we can expect.
Sound is not awesome, it ok but not a device to buy for its sound quality.
Not sure why someone would say that here, not true.
You need premium spotify account for this to work. Same with google music. Thats more cost to conisder.
If volume is turned up too loud, it will not pick up your voice well, got worse over time for us,
Google has done an innovative work leading the industry with smart speaker but sound clarity lacks. However for the entry level with the current price, the product still is a winner.
I've been raving about this and a couple friends have purchased since. Very happy with this purchase and would recommend to anyone.
First off, the speaker is great. The sound is at least as good as our JBL bluetooth speaker with good bass.
We have plenty of Google in the home - we all have accounts, we have Android phones and we have Chromecasts and Chromecast Audios. Google Home worked well with all of them and within a few minutes we were streaming synchronized music through the whole house.
The Google Home recognizes all the voices of my family members, and does a great job.
There are several features we'd love to see (like Reminders). At this point, I think it's a solid device.
No doubt it's an advanced product but still lacks in answering many voice commands. I don't want a product just to play apps / songs.
If your home utilities are wifi links then it's has very good usage.
We use google home for everything. We all have a lot of fun using this awesome product. I truly think everyone should have google home in there home. Thanks allan
I liked my first one so much, I went out and got a second one for my bedroom. I use them for home automation like changing the temp through my nest thermostats, turning on and off lights. I also use them for such things as setting alarms for the morning. Super easy to use. The alarm goes off in the morning and I say "Hey Google, snooze alarm" and she respond "OK, snoozing for 10 minutes". If I give it a time to snooze for or until, it does that. Brilliant. All of it so far!
The Good With Google Assistant built in, the Google Home integrates with Google Calendar, Maps and Chromecast, so it gives you personalized answers. Say the word, and the Home can also control your smart home gadgets or send music and video to your TV and speakers.
The Bad The Home's integrations with other Google services still don't allow a lot of give and take -- you can't create reminders or make a to-do list.
The Bottom Line Google Home offers more personalized virtual assistance than the Echo, and it's better at controlling your digital entertainment.
Great device and works well with a lot of different 3rd party devices. Ironically it seems to have the most trouble with Google Music but Spotify works flawlessly.
It currently controls my lights (lutron), TV (vizio with chrome cast) and thermostat (nest).
Set up was fast and easy.
Siund quality for the small speaker is great.
Have to raise your voice and maybe even tell if your want it to do something while it is playing music but it is expected. The good thing is once it hears the trigger phrase "ok Google" it turns the volume of the music way down to hear the rest of your command.
Ultimately this is technology in its early stages and has a lot of potential. I wouldn't rush out to get one but it is a neat gadget that can potentially make things more convenient for you.
I could not state enough about this product and the fast free delivery from BEST BUY. Sound quality for music could not be better..Another feature is when you want to know an answer about something - you get the answer immediately. Would be of value to parents to assist their children in answering questions needed for school and other activities they require help with. Would make a great gift.
p.s. I just bought another one as a gift for Christmas
I bought Google Home yesterday. It was easy to set up. Included was 90 days free of Google Music Play to try. The sound is amazing.....
I have Paradigm speakers at home and the clarity of Google Home is just as good or better.
The only thing I would like to see changed is the option of running on batteries.
Hands free calling, bluetooth are just the latest updates. Waiting for Harmony integration but so far this is the coolest device in my home
I love having this device in my home. Music and news on demand, my calendar, timers and alarms, and controlling my lights since I've also implemented the Hue WIFI lighting system. All very cool and energy-efficient. I hear from my son that the device already has Bluetooth capability and the software to use it is just around the corner - the best is yet to come!
One of the primary reasons for getting a Google Home device was to access my Calendar and schedule appointments through it. I was also hoping to access email through it. If you use a G-Suite account you are unable to access the Calendar or email through Google Home so I would avoid buying it. It does apparently work with free accounts but not with G-Suite paid accounts, go figure!
What a disappointment and G-Suite support were very dismissive when asked about it, not the typical Google experience I am used too.
I wasn't too excited when I watched the launch of Google home. Even when it came to Canada, paid not much attention. But when I got a Best Buy gift card, I said why not and picked one up. Best decision I could have made.
Using it is super natural and responds to both 'Hey Google' and 'OK Google'.
I have it paired with my Lutron Caseta lights, Logitech Harmony Hub and some TP-Link Smart Switches. Controls them all with no issue. It also allows you to make custom commands, or use IFTTT, so I can say "Hey Google, play Xbox." and my living room lights, TV, AV Receiver and Xbox One S will turn on.
It's voice recognition is top notch too. It recognises me or my girlfriend when using the Shared Device setting. Speaker is really good quality for how small it is. Listen to music on it every day I get home. The Mics are also far reaching.
I have to say, I am thoroughly impressed. And like most Google products, updates will continue to come out and make it more powerful over time.
Our family loves the Google Home, our boys (4 and 6) love asking it questions or to play some of their favorite songs. We also love having hands free access to find out the weather, news, playing podcasts, turning on a TV to play Netflix or YouTube, playing music on Google Play Music, commute times or just asking when a nearby store opens.
We look forward to using it for free phone calls in Canada/the US and whatever other new features Google adds to it in the future.
I never used Siri on my phone at all. I use this all the time and it works as expected and I use it often with Chromecast and Hue lights.
When it works it's really great.. but it quickly gets old when you have to ask 8 times to turn on the lights.
For example, you can say 'turn off the lights in living room' and it will work. Then right away ask 'turn on the lights in loving room' and it will reply 'sorry I can't do that' even thought it just completed the same command less than a few seconds ago. Ask another 8 times and it will work.
Again some of the features work great all the time. Then some don't.
Very cool product. Being able to use natural language is great.
Haven't tried the others so don't know how they compare, but Google's recognition on what you're saying has been almost flawless. It's almost immediately responsive and is an awesome interface at a great price.
There are some fun little tricks you can do with it. Like have it play the sound of coyotes howling or tell a random joke. And of course it'll do all the practical things like translations, weather reports, answer questions, set alarms, tell you your schedule, etc.. The voice controls get even better if you sign up with Spotify and have some Hue lights. Spotify in particular I didn't care about before but now is nothing short of amazing and the sound quality is excellent.
I was a bit uneasy it is an active microphone that's always listening, so I put it on a light switch controlled plug. I've not bothered to turn it off much but nice to know I can.
The only reason it doesn't get 5 stars is I think it's still improving and though it'll control Chromecast (Netflix & Youtube) it won't control my Smart TV. Yet at least. But voice controlling your devices is the future so I do recommend it.
i originally bought a google home from the U.S before they were available in canada. I preordered this last one through bestbuy.ca to get the free chromecast(even though i didnt really need it since i already have one).
At the start things were a bit rocky since there was a glitch between philips hue and google home. Everytime i tried turning on or off a light with google home, it would work, then disconnect from my wifi and take forever before it would reconnect and stop saying"something went wrong".
Since they fixed the problem it has worked very well.
I have a smart things hub, philips hue, sonos system, chromecast AND a chromecast audio connected to my sonos play 5 and logitech harmony remote hub.
Downstairs i have a ps4, and x box one, and a shield tv.
Using my google home, in conjunction with my harmony remote and IFTTT(IF THIS THEN THAT),i turn on my gaming systems, tv amplifier and lights to a specific color for each gaming system.
when its time to go to sleep i say "okay google, goodnight" and it shuts everything down.
As a wifi speaker the google home is okay, nothing special. At lower volume it sounds fine. If i tell it to play a specific station on sonos, then it plays to my play 5through chromecast audio. Only problem is, sometimes the music buffers once in a while. I guess playing directly to my sonos from my router is a stronger signal than going through google home to chromecast audio to sonos play 5.
Also i create groupings to send the music to my other 2 sonos speakers throughout the house, but sonos never remembers the groupings so the next time i have to create the group all over again, otherwise it will only play on my play 5.
Recently my google home started turning on an extra philips hue light when i tell it to turn on my kitchen lights. cant figure out why, but i may just remove the bulb from philips hue, then add it again and see if that helps.
overall very happy with both of my google home speakers. Hope they will add native control to sonos speakers so i dont have to use chromecast audio or harmony remote to control them through google home.
J'aime bien le son, pour ce qui est de l'assistant personnel de Google, il y a place à l'amélioration
