Absolutely amazed at how many things are wrong with this product. Cords don't even come close to reaching power source or each other, case will not mount on the seat headrest, case is ridiculous. You have to take the player out of the case and undo the wires in order to change a disc. The time wasted trying to come up with some way to use these players in the car was incredibly frustrating. My rating is actually ZERO stars.

I can't believe how many things are wrong with this product. Cables too short, case impossible to mount, case must DVD must be removed to change the disc which means cables have to be unplugged as well. This product gets a double thumbs down. I'm surprised that Best Buy even stocks it!

Not as bad as other reviewers say

You get what you pay for. I bought them and have used them a few times so I can't review for long term but the screens are nice and clear, decent enough sound, and comes with the basics. The case is a little annoying because the cables on the side need to be unplugged for you to take them out to put in a new DVD every time. I don't mind the extra bit of time it takes to put in a new DVD and to plug everything back in, it's just 3 small cables so not a big deal. The only thing that made me not give it 5 stars is the cable length and the quality of headphones and cases that come with it. The cables just barely make it to the plug in, I was relieved that it's just long enough to reach but it would have been nice and more convenient with longer cables. This does feel like it's a bit cheaply made but if you're looking for something high quality then it'll probably have a bigger price tag, again you get what you pay for.

Garbage! Would not read DVDs out of box.

I bought these to entertain the kids on a long drive to California. We fired these up in southern Washington State only to find out they would not read ANY of our dvds. Totally useless. I had to go out of my way to a Bestbuy somewhere around Portland to buy a Philips set (the last ones in stock). Those worked great! If I could, I'd rate the Akai ones even lower. Just got back into town, and will be returning these. DO NOT BUY.

so far so good

Bought this to go on the back of the headrests in our caravan. The cord that plugs in to the cigarette lighter outlet is no where near long enough. Have to plugged the receptacle cord into and adapter to give it enough length to even get it working and even then it is just long enough. When you want to change the movie you have to unplug all the cords to pull player out of the case. You can't open it when it's in the case/holder.

As Expected, but Faulty

Don't expect much from these and they're basically passable as a portable DVD player. The USB port is a nice feature, but lacks a menu function, so you have to watch videos in sequence (the remote has the added features, but a menu and skip button would have been nice on the console itself). The fact that they open upward (and are very difficult to pry open) means an adult sitting in the front seat of a vehicle will have a lot of trouble changing DVDs for smaller children. Ultimately, however, the product was faulty. The parallel screen to the main one didn't work for the picture, and emitted nothing but loud buzzing when ported. The fact that the second screen does not have its own DVD player is also a bit strange (though that was known to me when I bought it--I just don't understand it, given the price). All that said, you have limited choices of dual-screen portable DVDs, so I guess you get what you pay for. I'm just not impressed with the product and wouldn't buy Akai again.

It could be better

I have a van with one child facing forward in a car seat and the other facing backwards. The cords that run from one to the other a barely long enough. The cord that runs to the lighter adapter barely reaches. If I bump it with my arm it will disconnect. There is no battery in this unit so it cannot be used on a plane ride. The sound is ok in the house but in the car it is barely audible. When attached to the head of my drivers seat I cannot hear it at all when I am driving. When the car is turned off and back on again it does not remember the place in the movie where it left off. So the movie always starts back at the beginning. To change the disc when you are in the car, you have to unplug all the wires from the main unit and then remove it from the headrest mount. So after I change the disc and put the unit back in the mount I have to go fishing to try and catch the wires that have fallen between the seats. The picture quality was the only thing I think is ok. I have only owned the unit for a couple of weeks so I cannot testify to the quality of the workmanship. Overall. I guess it is better than not having one at all but I am very disappointed with the lack of attention to detail. It could be better.
