Dead in the water

This product has been abandoned by ASUS in favor of the AC68, which will probably be abandoned soon as well. Drivers haven't been updated since February 2016, so if you're on WIndows 8.1 or 10 you forget about using 5GHz as the driver will crash each time you connect. If you aren't using the cradle the adapter will block off the USB ports next to it.

Bestbuy service: Horrible (as usual)

Bought for my son, there was an error on the posted price, BEST BUY does not want to apply Quebec's Price accuracy Policy. Buy the way the product is OK

After 2 months it stop working, windows is unable to recognize the adapter. A waste of money , cannot be used with Windows 10

Good stuff

Very good product. Just after using it, we can get much faster and fluent speed in the wireless internet.

Bundled software broke my USB ports

Bundled software for the adapter broke my USB ports as it's not made for Windows 10! Very frustrating, had to reinstall Windows entirely with all of my software one by one to get them to work back. Stay away from asmedia 3.0

Does not work consistantly

I constantly have errors with this adapter from having to switch usb ports to having it randomly stop working. Fix this please.

Bad drivers to NOT install, but product works great!

When I got this, it was a PAIN to setup. Although the wireless adapter drivers are fine (those on the install CD), it offers you to install, also on the CD, USB 3.0 Host Controller to get the best speeds. Do NOT, I repeat NOT NOT NOT NOT install that driver. My PC had trouble with all USB ports that caused me much headaches and frustration. Apart from this option which will RA-- your computer (excuse the expression, I meant), break your USB ports, installation was a breeze and product works great. 4 stars for value since it still is quite pricey and because with that price I expected convenience and no driver issue.

Purchased this so I could have Wi-Fi upstairs in our desktop computer. Worked great just plugged in and away it went very easy. Works flawless with our ASUS router.

  • from Montreal, QC

Great when it works.

It's very inconsistent in making and maintaining a connection. Doesn't keep a connection over long periods. I find myself unplugging and plugging the adapter regularly. I tried two units before moving to ASUS PCE-AC56 PCI-E Adapter. Couldn't be more happier.

Really happy with the purchase!

After researching and getting opinions from friends, I've finally decided to replace my previous usb wifi adapter with Asus AC1300 USB adapter. All I can say is that this wifi adapter is AMAZING!! The reception was really good even without the antenna. With this USB adapter, no matter where I am in the house, I can always get the speed that I signed up with my ISP provider!! Highly recommend this product to anyone who's looking for a USB wifi adapter.

Good but

I had to reinstall 3 times. On window 7 when you turn on computer It does not show .

I just want to add that it's very expensive. And even though it has a high gain antenna that brings in the performance, it's not a small unit.

Here are some real world results (on ROG G551JW notebook, 100 Mbps internet service, Rogers Hitron CGN3 (wireless AC modem router): On wireless N internal adapter (2.4 GHz): Note: Modem router on first floor, notebook on 2nd floor ▪ Download: 6 Mbps ▪ Upload: 7 Mbps On wireless N internal adapter (2.4 GHz): Note: Sitting right next to modem router ▪ Download: 19 Mbps ▪ Upload: 11 Mbps Using USB-AC56R (5 GHz): Note: Modem router on first floor, notebook on 2nd floor ▪ Download: 77 Mbps ▪ Upload: 11 Mbps Using Ethernet connection: ▪ Download: 79 Mbps ▪ Upload: 11 Mbps Results using USB-AC56R gave me similar results to direct ethernet connection. However, I experienced occasional lagging when playing League of Legends and StarCraft II. I did not experience this at all with ethernet connection. When I connected the USB-AC56R to a USB 2.0 port, I got about 35 Mbps. If you don't have a USB 3.0 port on your computer, you will not get the full benefits of this adapter.

Impressive speed and power.

Perfect addition to my desktop PC.....

Very easy to install, covers all WiFi frequencies and speed is spectacular ! USB 3.0 connectivity ! Highly recommend this adapter.....

Fantastic USB wifi adapter!

Fantastic USB wifi adapter! Supports 802.11AC on both 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz. I have 100mbps home internet and the Asus USB-AC56 easily achieves it and more. Transferring files across my local network is also speedy. Install was simple as well. I downloaded the drivers from Asus' site from a different computer, copied them over, plugged in the USB-AC56 and installed the drivers. The Asus utility gets installed but it leaves a small footprint and there's no need to use it. Just leave the app running in the background. The USB-AC56 is expensive, but I expect to upgrade my home internet to 250mbps down the road and this thing easily achieves those speeds and more.

performs well... sometimes.

This network adapter is great but when I have to use anything across the house it doesn't perform. may be my router because I am still using the 2.4 GHz band so it may be that but I will upgrade router and see. other than that it performs excellent and am surprisingly satisfied with the performance. A little pricey for the performance.

Awesome fast

I needed an adapter to get me onto the 5.0 Mhz network since I upgraded my router. This one lets me switch off my Laptops WIFI and goes much faster, even if I would stay on the regular 2.4 Mhz networks. The antenna feels a bit loose as it is just screwed in and does not "click" in place. But it has its upside because you can bump into the antenna and it does not break only will turn. It has a blue flashing light which will constantly go as you use the internet. I bought it for its performance and range and it delivers!

Very impressed

So, I was testing and buying USB wireless adapters, because my internet connection was poor. This one was my second testing, and my last testing, because I didn't need to find nay other ones. Normally I would get 35 mbps (with major flutters- one moment it's 35, next it's 16). My plan says I should get 50Mbps. After installing this, I am now getting 51-55mbps (depending on the time of the day/ what my family is doing). I am very impressed with this product, if I were to get another USB adapter, I would definitely get this. One of my best purchases :).

Plugged into computer and windows installed it with no problem.... Works great!! My system is on the 2nd floor and picks up my router in the basement with strong signal.... I didn't install the software that came with it as windows picked it up and if it works don't screw with the supplied software. lol

  • from Kingston

Got my Asus N56R today and had it installed in under 5 minutes. My speed on Fiber went from 25 MB/sec to 80 MB/sec down, 50 MB/sec up almost instantly. Had an Asus N53 before this and it was great too. The Asus N56R is worth every penny.

Best usb wifi adapter

This is my third usb wifi adapter that I have tried and it is a keeper. After d-link and netgear. This is the one that give me the best internet speed for my htpc. I am not using it with asus bloated driver, Instead, I am using edimax driver and it works flawlessly.

Upgrade over laptop antenna

I bought this because I wanted to get maximum wifi performance between my laptop and my DIR-890L router. My laptop had a decent AC antenna and got around 200 Mbps through two hardwood floors (basement to 2nd floor). With this ASUS usb3 antenna I get around 500 Mbps, which isn't too shabby. :)

Easy as pie to set up and get going on the internet! This was for my mother's PC in her bedroom, next to mine, about 15 to 20 feet away and through a wall. I have an Asus R66U router, connected to a cable modem, and a faassst internet connection. My mother is enjoying 5 bars now on her connection too! Great product, good price for a well known name ... would buy again!

  • from Oshawa, ON

Great for high-speed internet packages

Range and speed is excellent. I'm approximately twenty feet from the router, with a couple walls in between, and get five bars. Speed holds steady at 780 Mbps which allows for full use of the 100/10 Mbps internet package I have. Obviously, the router is a major factor as well, and my older Netgear r6300 plays nice with the ASUS wi-fi adaptor. I offer a word of caution to potential buyers: do not install the software that comes with the adaptor. While the software did work, my speed was slower and I had several disconnects every hour. I uninstalled the software and drivers, and then let Windows (7) install the driver and manage the connections. It’s now flawless. So, while I rate the hardware at 5/5, I give the bundled software/drivers 0/5.

No Linux support :(

Everyone was saying this was an awesome adapter.. No linux support makes this baby sit on a shelf for me. Good conversation piece but needs open source compatibility.

ASUS Dual-Band Wireless AC USB Adapter

After buy similar adaptors that fell short I decided to try this one. It was very easy to set up and get started. I was very impressed with the quality and performance. From the moment I set it up I started to receive five bars from my main modem. If I had to buy again I would buy another adapter same as this. I am very happy.

Great Product

I've been having problems maintaining my router speed at a 48Mbps. If I was on a conference call I kept downing for a few sconeds and it would restore itself. Also if was Skypin I'd loose the connection for a brief moment but interrupting the call. I tried numerous products until I Spoke to a Linksys technician and he explained how the older pic and laptops do not have the wifi hardware inside to meet the higher speeds. SO I installed USB wifi card and solved all problems. I no longer lost my connection and I also started to reach 60Mbps bandwidth.

Need to be unplug once in a while

Good product but for some reason, I need to unplug it from the USB port once in a while to get it work. The driver seems to disconnect by itself but it is ok when you replug the USB...

  • from Surrey, BC

Amazing Product

If you have the money to get this it is AMAZING. Its really easy to get working and has really good connection.

Great adapter

Bought this adapter for my desktop as I needed to move my router to a more central location in my house to get full coverage. The cradle is great. Desktop is hidden behind a desk so being able to place the adapter on the desk has greatly improved signal. I get great speed and signal strength. My son is a gamer and he loves the adapter.
