This phone randomly does not receive text messages! I am sending it back to the service centre as it is under warranty, but I am not too hopeful they will fix it! Don;t buy!!

Many text messages were lost / Very unresponsive

After purchasing this phone, I thought it was decent at first but after about a month I noticed it took long even to open up a simple app like Chrome. Camera takes at least 20 seconds to open. Many friends and family would ask why I didn't text them back....didn't even receive their messages. Switched back to my old phone. Would not purchase this!

The phone is lava

I bought this phone back in February. A couple months after they pushed the Nougat update. THE NOUGAT UPDATE MADE THE PHONE A LOT MORE UNRESPONSIVE. Even after multiple firmware updates claiming to fix issues, the issues usually stay. After Nougat update: - Constantly at 90% RAM usage, even when there are no apps on the foreground. Previously horrible Asus bloatware became even worse. - Laggy camera, had literal freezes during video recordings. It takes a lot longer to focus than advertised. When taking pictures you need to wait literally 5-10 seconds before it takes the picture. - Laggy browser. The browser lags a ton, especially when there are gif ads on a page. Sometimes it'll hang to the point that you'll have to restart your device. - Laggy call screen on occasion - Battery doesn't last as long as it says in the settings, you can expect it to die in a few hours if you don't keep it in sleep mode - Issue with being unable to call 9-11 with certain cellular networks (claimed to be fixed several months after the issue arose, but never tested myself) - Constant app reloading - Large amount of gifs can crash an app, like when viewing a gif subreddit on the Reddit app - Unable to handle multiple apps in memory without impacting performance - No easy way to downgrade to previous firmware - Barely anyone has the phone so if you choose to forsake your warranty with Asus and unlock the bootloater, don't expect custom ROMs from the community for a long time - TWRP and Magisk does work on the phone though if you choose to unlock bootloader and want to root Before Nougat the phone was a great budget daily driver. Now, it just has a bunch of issues that will make the phone perform like something half the price. Asus did claim that the bloatware will become more optimized when they push the Oreo update for the phone but there's no official date of release. For now, stay far far away and go with something like the Moto G4 Play if you want a budget phone, which is almost a hundred dollars cheaper and has double the performance of this phone.

You cannot get better value for the specs. However, this phone should be recalled. I have had to bring this phone to ASUS in Markham twice (within 6 months of purchase) because it would not charge. They are aware of the issue but refuse to recall it.

speaker issues

the speaker part of the phone when it is on, echos badly. other than that, it is a good enough phone for the price. but when i talk to someone i like to use the speaker, so i am returning it.

Unresponsive and Unreliable - Bad Purchase!

I bought the Asus Zenfone 3 Laser online on April 27th and received it the first week of June. I have to say that compared to my previous LG G3, the phone seemed to be lagging, even before upgrading to Android 7. The camera takes between 20-30 seconds to load and then the screen becomes unresponsive between pictures. The picture quality indoors is terrible. The worst part for me is that I need this phone for business and on three occasions I have tried answering customer calls and the phone restarted on all 3 occasions. I have submitted numerous requests to BestBuy through their website for returning this phone and even tried twice to call. They always state that there is an unusual call volume and the latest said I would be waiting for 81 minutes on hold. I need a dependable and reliable phone for business travel and this phone is not a good choice - if you need reliable, responsive hardware, stay away from this phone!

ZenFone 3 Laser units in Canada not able to make 911 calls

Update: Asus has now revealed that the issue "occurs on an older version of OS (v7.0) still installed on the Zenfone 3 Laser or Zenfone 3 Deluxe 5.5". As a remedy, users are being advised to install the Android 7.1.1 update. "In the case of new product sales, all ZenFone 3 Deluxe 5.5” and ZenFone 3 Laser devices will receive the FOTA update upon activation," the company said. Original story follows: Asus has issued a formal statement following reports that the Canadian variant of its ZenFone 3 Laser smartphone is unable to make 911 calls. The Taiwanese company has said that it's working to fix the issue.

Much worse than the previous generation

I got this phone as a replacement since I smashed the screen on my old phone which was the Asus Zenfone 2 Laser, now that was a great cell phone. However, this one is a whole other story. This one is not nearly as good a quality as the previous generation of itself was, this one constantly crashes, fails, reboots and otherwise fails to perform as it should. I've only had the phone for 5 months and am going to claim my warranty to get another new phone. This one is not worth the money, but if you can get the Zenfone 2, it is definitely worth it! Bottom Line; NOT WORTH IT!!!!!!

after 7.0 this phone becomes unusable

The update to 7.0 on this phone makes it unusable. All the apps run slow now....I cannot roll back to the old version!

Excellent phone

Just bought this phone, it updated to 7 right away, so far so good. No problems like the others have said, camera is sharp, and yes more ram would be good, but for the price it's worth it, and yes I do work the phone hard, the battery does last me most of the day, the 32 gb is more than enough for my music and pictures. I would recommend this phone...

2G RAM is not enough

Have this phone for about eight months. Initially was happy, but soon started noting that the phone was getting slower and slower with every update. The problem I believe is ASUS software - its not a pure android phone. Sometimes the phone is getting hot for no reason.... Now it is almost no difference with my old phone in terms of speed/productivity... This phone need at least 4gig of RAM. Screen is good, camera is also good.... Generally Im not happy - the phone is still new, but useless...

Where is my review

Very poor performance with android 7

I can't believe how inexpensive this phone is, whilst holding its own against the big two. ( iPhone and Samsung). I'm very happy with my purchase.

Love it

Unexpected I will like this phone. I got this phone for my mom's birthday. Phone is light and stylish. Mom loves it. Now I can teach her how to check email, take picture, with this new phone. Got it on sale.

Frequently hangs after android 7 update.

This phone was very good, I would say 4.5 in 5 ratings, before android 7 update. Now after after the update camera freezes every time, some website makes the phone crashing with black screen. Asus should response immediately.

  • from Kitchener, ON

Quite happy with the phone. Good battery life, works smoothly, so far no concerns or problems. Lot of bloatware on the phone, but I do like the fact that it was set up similarly to my nexus 5 I had prior, so was an easy transition to a new phone.

Very slow phone

I bought this phone because it has plenty of features and looks really nice. You can't judge something by its cover fully applies here. The phone can't handle many apps within reasonable respond times and more often that not it spins and takes many on/off to get it back functioning. It crashes many times. I am extremely disappointed that a big brand like Asus sells phone that barely works. Don't bother to buy this phone even though the price is quiet attractive. You get what you paid.

Awful performance - Runs super slow

I bought this item 1 months ago. It looks very sleek and screen is nice. But that is all about this phone, just a pretty device. I am very disappointed with the speed and overall performance. I am not talking about games; just simple applications such as email, internet, etc. Do NOT buy this product. Pricing is very attractive but you get what you pay: a piece of garbage. I had respect for the ASUS brand due to the quality of their laptops; now I am not buying anything from that brand.

This phone compares to iPhone and Samsung smartphones and often gets mistaken for them as well. Great quality phone! Some pros (there are too many to list): -good camera -fingerprint sensor is quick -very fast phone -looks very nice -fairly cheap for the high level of quality Cons: -Barely any case selection

Awful quality - had to return within 30 days!

Before purchasing this phone, I used an LG/Google Nexus for over three years without any scratches or other damage - I'm a light user, so my phones tend to last a long time. I bought this phone less than three weeks ago - today, it suddenly stopped detecting my SIM card. I brought it to my carrier, and they tested it with a new SIM card, then a SIM card from a different carrier.... in short, despite no visible damage (I had the phone for less than three weeks!), the hardware was already malfunctioning. Needless to say, I am definitely not impressed! While it was working, the phone was light, fast (for ordinary use like email, calendar, calls, etc.) and capable of excellent sound and image quality. But for me at least, the lack of durability in terms of SIM card sensors outweighs all of the above. I mean, if a phone can't work on a cellular network... I plan on visiting Best Buy tomorrow to return my purchase.

Asus Zenfone 3 Laser

Got the phone and love it!!!

Good products that will break very fast

This phone is slippery as a soap bar. THERE IS LITTERALY NOWHERE IN CANADA (The Afghanistan of Online buying) where you can get a flip cover for it. Trust me I tried, and direct canada sent me a 50 CAD wrong size cover. Therefore you might give those 300 bucks to a poor personn because its a matter of time before this gorgeous device break. Concerning the products: Great photos, cool screen The usual POS bloatware Asus love so much ,and no decent rom on the amrket to get rid of them.

Asus Zenfone 3 Laser ZC551KL

Overall very good phone. Processor performance very good. Games, Youtube, internet absolutely no problem. Phone is very sleek and light weight. Only problem is the battery. Won't hold the charge for long time. Even if you leave at 30% in the night, don't expect your alarm will wake you up. Battery will die while most of the apps are off.
