Works Perfect

I bought this lock to make it easy for my daughter to get in the house after school. It only took about 10 minutes to install and was really easy to do. It works great!! My daughter has no problems using it, it automatically locks itself after 1 minute, and i get updates on my phone letting me know when she gets home. I added Apple Homekit so now I can control it from anywhere and even use Siri to operate it. Definitely getting another one for the other door.

You would think they would have built a decent useable lock by now, Nope.

Fatally flawed. How much longer do we have to wait till we have a working lock as advertised? No wonder there are so many company thinking "we can build this" in there backyard. Come back in a couple years and see where things are at, don't even waste your time at this point.

Garbage

Installed the smart lock as per instructions. Would not connect to my smart phone. Changed batteries and still would not connect. Also, I manually turned the smart lock to lock my front door. It could not extend the dead bolt fully. It extended just enough to lock the door but not to it's full extent. Returned the product and looking for something better.

Useless

I bought the lock, remote, doorbell and it almost worked for two weeks. I ended up buying a WiFi booster and it simply messed up my connections because that booster would link as I walked in the door but no signal upstairs so a pain. The lock itself needs resetting constantly and the process is akin to visiting a dentist. The doorbell is even worse and I've never got the video working. It is NOT a smart device. If you like getting frustrated, buy it. I'm standing at my door and will need to use a key to get in. Joke.

Do not waste your money

I bought August Smart lock but it is not smart. Simply it is not doing what it suppose to do. Auto-lock works all the time but Auto unlock doesn't. You might have to stand and wait in front of your door, with your cell phone out, holding in your hand for about 10 sec. Your cell phone needs to connect to your wifi first and August recognize through Bluetooth. Well, I don't have patient, ended up unlocking with my regular key. Another problem is when Auto-unlock kicks in when I am already home for more than half-hours. Then I have to manually lock to door again. I wish I can give the negative star rating.

Poor quality

Broke after 8 months, they refused to replace it. Terrible customer service attitude and now I see their Facebook page is full of negative reviews wish I hadn't wasted my money

Really convenient!

One of the best smart home devices I thought this year. It's reliable and convenient. I don't carry a key anymore when I go out. A smartphone is all you need to lock/unlock your door - and best part, it's all automatic, you don't need to do anything.

Not good for multiple phones

We bought this a few weeks ago, and it was pretty easy to install, and we were able to setup the app on our phones, but because it uses bluetooth, we were having issues with the lock connecting to the right phone. IE we lock our door when we are at home, so if 1 person is home, the lock senses someone is home and doesn't let the other person who is coming home automatically unlock the door because generally the person at home has bluetooth on and doesn't allow for the other phone to connect so it defeats the purpose of having the auto unlock. We even tried buying the hub and the keypad, but more bluetooth connections meant that it was even more difficult to actually use it. Maybe in a few years as the tech develops more, we will look at the smart locks, but for now, back to the original key in the door.

Going back to the Kevo Kwikset unit

I tried it out for a few weeks but found it unreliable. I liked the handsfree convenience of using auto unlock but if I happened to use the back door when I got home, rather than the front door which had the August unit, then the front door which unlocked because it sensed I had arrived home would stay unlocked unless I remembered to go and lock it. There was an autolock feature but it was only based on times and I found it to be inconvenient when activated. I used to use a Kevo lock and liked how it worked better. One touch of the Kevo ring and it opens up. And when you leave, one touch and it flashes to confirm it has locked. With the August unit there was no confirmation as you leave that it has locked unless you pull your phone out of your pocket to check the status through the app. I've returned the August unit and will order Kevin units for the front and back doors.

Cool but not fully reliable with hub and keypad

I bought it and set it all up including the remote access hub and keypad - for a cottage application. The bluetooth keypad connection to the door was not 100% reliable and not intuitive so I unfortunately had to return it. I really liked the concept but need the reliability 100% of the time vs 80%.

Very big and app buggy on android

The lock is VERY big... our door has a frame around it and there is barely enough room for me to grip it to turn the lock manually. Biggest issue is the app keeps losing connection to the lock. Try to unlock it will go green, lock doest even try to unlock and then circle goes grey and say it lost connection (from 6 inches away!) I like that I didn't have to switch or completely get rid of keys but too flaky to keep.

Excellent

Very happy with the lock. I have one at the front and back door. Works great when paired with the keypad. Keypad should come paired with the lock, as far as I am concerned they are a indispensable combination! The auto unlock and lock features are kind of pointless, they use the gps on your phone which for battery life is very intermittent. Just get the keypad! one button press locks, and entering your combo opens it.

Good as expected

It took me 10 minutes to install this lock over my existing lock, no special tools required. Easy to setup Android app and works flawlessly. Wel dome August!

Easy installation and setup

Installation and set up were easy. We purchased the keypad with it and everything works well. My only concern is the lock doesn't feel as rigid as I expected to be but so far my dog hasn't destroyed it.

Love this!

Super easy to install, set up the app on two different Android phones and it works like a charm. If you have the auto entry set up, you don't need to pull out your phone and connect the app. It knows when you're inside your geofence and will open the door when you're in front of it. We've also got the always lock feature on so that it will automatically return to the locked position in 30 seconds.

Not Impressed

Picked this up yesterday and while it was super easy to install, the app was not user friendly. Once we finally finished setting the app up, the lock worked well for the most part except that it constantly disconnects from your phone. I opened my app to lock and unlock the door and the button turns grey, we had to close the app and re-open, then wait 10 seconds. I ran outside to my car and when I came back, the door was locked but it would not auto-unlock, so I had to reach into my pocked, grab my phone, open the app, wait 5-10 seconds for the app to connect and the grey button to turn red. For this price, we shouldn't have these connection issues (we're both using Android and iPhone and both had these issues). I'm returning it today.

Great lock

Got it for my country home. Really easy to install. Took me between five and ten minutes. The little instruction book is easy to understand. Downloaded the app on my phone and was able to connect in no time. No more keys for the children that always end up loosing them. I will buy more august locks for my other property.

Homekit + August = Great

This is a great Addon, not a lock. this is the great part that you dont have to change your existing lock and no one knows you have a smart lock.. Your battery dies, use your Key. Homekit was easy to set up and the Auto lock is so nice to just walk-in. If you want to add a smart device to your home I highly reccomend this one!

First "Smart" lock that actually works like a charm

I have been keeping up with the smart lock technology for about 2-3 years now. I have been waiting for this second generation August for over a year and now, it's finally here.....and on my door. Here are some Pros: - Easy to install (10-15mins if you are not handy at all, probably 5mins for a handyman) - You do not need to replace keys or your existing deadbolt - Works with Nest and Apple Homekit - If you have a 4th Gen Apple TV, you do NOT need the August Connect module. - Connects very fast to your phone and app (so it will be easier to do this than find your keys) Cons: - You will eventually need to replace the 4 double A batteries. August claims about 6 months, we'll see about that. - Some people might find it big - Expensive for a lock.......but just like Nest and most Apple products, there is a premium for their bells and whistles. So if you are in the market for a smart lock, the 2nd Gen August is definitely the one to go with. Hope you guys find this review helpful!
