Smart Lighting

Find out how smart lighting can benefit your home.

Get control of your household and energy costs with the Belkin WeMo Insight Switch. You can schedule fans and lights to come on when you get home from work, shut off the TV when you think your kids have had enough, and even get a notification when your laundry is done, all from your smart device. You'll see the difference in your energy bill.

More Information

Your jaw drops as your eyes rest on your utility bill. The final cost makes you want to run around the block from frustration as you think back on all the times you turned off the heater or unplugged kitchen appliances, just to make sure. It's time, you say to yourself, to catch the power-hungry culprit. Enter the Belkin WeMo Insight Switch.

Why you need this:

  • Designed for the energy-conscious user: Plug any gadget into this smart power plug and get an insider view of your power consumption. You'll appreciate real-time and average stats for power draw, usage time, and operating cost for whatever device is plugged in. Besides tracking energy usage, the switch also lets you program schedules for your device so it turns on or off whenever you want it to.
  • Turns a power outlet into a smart outlet: Choose a recipe for a specific behaviour or create your own "do" recipe. This way, you can control electronics usage (read: parents putting time limits on TV or game console use) or automatically regulate power-hungry devices, such as turning the space heater off after it hits a specified energy cost.
  • A time saver: Personalize the data you receive from your device. Get notified when your washing machine completes a cycle instead of having to interrupt what you're doing to look in on the state of your wash. Know when it's time to turn off the computer when your child exceeds their allotted time for video gaming.
  • Compatible with IFTTT: The WeMo Insight switch works with IFTTT (If This, Then That) to open up a world of awesome possibilities for your home automation setup. Using online apps on your mobile device, you can check up on devices plugged into the switch. Create rules and schedules to control electronic functions even when you're far away, like scheduling the coffee maker to start brewing before you wake up or getting notifications on your phone when the appliance has been left on.
  • Convenient connectivity: With a simple download of the free WeMo app, you'll have instant and complete control of home appliances and electronic devices (provided you're connected to a WiFi network). How cool is that? Using your smartphone or tablet, you can remotely turn connected devices on or off, or keep track of how much energy your electronics are consuming on the handy WeMo app.
  • Works with Android and Apple devices: The Belkin WeMo Insight WiFi switch is compatible with your existing WiFi router and smartphone or tablet running Apple (iOS 7 and higher) or Android (4.1 and higher).

Waste of time and money.

Bought two- neither will connect regardless of proximity or time invested. Big waste of time. Do not recommend.

Decent device

The Wemo Insight seems to work alright for the most part, but have found that the Android app can be rather buggy at times, requiring a restart to get it to turn on and off. I would have hoped the price in Canada was less to be equivalent to the US pricing with exchange. I'll see how it goes over the next month or so and update this review if need be.

Overpriced but works fine now (setting up was not easy)

Contrary to the previous plug (no monitoring of energy) these 2 plugs I bought were both very difficult to set up. I had to do the process for both 3-5 times. I had updated the App as directed, but somehow the switches would not connect to the wifi router. I had to go on the internet to find a solution (recycle both the unit it self and the light that was attached to it), basically plugging in and out and restart the process. Now it is working I really like it. Not sure it is worth the price.

Great product

I have 2 of these units and originally the android app didn't work very well, but they've updated it and it seems to work great now. The second unit worked immediately. Both units are running flawlessly now. I'm considering purchasing more.

Does what it is supposed to

At this time there are no other non-china based units on the market, nor are there other smart plugs where a hub isn't required. Setup was easy, bit slow of a process but no concerns. I cannot access the remotely, not sure if it is because I am using wemo android on blackberry or not. All of my wemo app work fine when I am at home where the plug is located. In due time I am sure there will be other competitive products on the market. Form factor is good, other plug on outlet still usable. I think this is an overpriced unit, really it is a glorified traditional timer which can be purchased at the a fraction of the price. Depends if you appreciate the tech aspect of it :)

Like the remote monitoring.

Purchased 5 units to use to plug in the engine heaters for aeroplanes at the hangar. It is easy to monitor the units from anywhere there is wifi to ensure that the heaters are on and drawing the correct amperage that tells me all of the elements in the heating system are working. Also like the ability to re-program the timer from anywhere or turn on a heater manually if needed after the timer has turned the system off. Without a manual it did take a bit of time to figure out how to program things properly. A link to an on-line instruction manual would be great.

Second review

One of these connected without any trouble. The second one connected after ½ hour of fiddling with it. I bought a 3rd one and it is now in prices n the harbage. Would not connect worth beans. If you buy one great, two ok, three forget it!

Easy to use, great feature set

A programmable switch is one thing, and this does the job quite well. The real selling point for the WeMo Insight Switch is the Insight part: the instantaneous power draw visibility and automated emailed usage reports are addictive! I like the set-and-forget time programming and IFTTT integration as well. My only issues with it are the lack of HomeKit support for iOS and the relative bulkiness of the switch compared to other similar units.

... and so convenient. This timer plug-in is the best. Very easy to set up and connect to my network. It is great! I just put it on a light, and now the light comes on at sunset. No more friggin' around with the old manual timer I used to have, which always needed to be reset for daylight savings or power failures. It can be turned on or off from anywhere or at anytime. I just bought one to see what it is like, but one isn't enough. I think I'll buy at least a couple more.

No Windows support

i really like this product, works easily abd very well with Andriod but does not support windows. I wish I knew that when I bought it. I would give it 5 stars if it supported Windows.

  • from Vancouver, BC

great when they work properly

Great idea but in practice they lose connection often so that they don't work when I want them to. Main issues 1. Losing connection to my router. I'm pretty sure at this point it's not my router's fault. And now despite following the troubleshooting steps, it doesn't work. Second issue, the Android app burns a lot of battery power if it is left on in the background. Like heating up the phone amounts of power.

Belkin WEMO Insight Switch

Product worked exactly s described. Used smart phones and tablets to control the lights on our Christmas tree. Also used it to tell if our power was off while we were away on vacation in the winter. Didn't experience any issues that others have reported. The energy usage was an added bonus.

Andriod and iOS only, no Windows support

Works perfectly with Android set up was very easy. Refresh rate of instantaneous power use is very often, about 1 / sec. I am only only giving it a 3 star for the following 2 reasons, The device itself seams to use about 2 watts to power itself, if you had many of these, that could add up. NOT having a Windows interface is inexcusable. I have tried running Bluestacks Andriod emulation on Windows with WeMo Gadgets but have not got that working yet.

Impossible to set up

I bought the Belkin Wemo. I couldn't get the kit working at all. They promises to be as easy to set up, but it completely failed. I was able to get to connect shortly, but it died in 5 minutes. I reset repeatedly and it failed all the same. I spend one hour with the bekin support and they sent me to Bestbuy to change for a new one. The second one, same thing, more than one hour with support and nothing. They tell me that the problem was that Bestbuy has to much time the product in the rack....crazy... I returned the product

Easy to use, IFTTT integration

I bought two insight switches to use together with a WeMo wall switch that I installed in my bedroom several months ago. Since installing these on my network I've become more conscious of energy use. These switches are smaller than the previous WeMo switches but still large enough that they cover both plugs on an outlet, which can be a little bit frustrating when you have more than one thing to plug in. The WeMo app for Android is much better than it used to be, it's actually become quite fast and very stable. The reporting feature is interesting but annoying to setup, and the automatic reporting option doesn't seem to like to save my email address. Overall these are pretty great devices and Belkin seems committed to making them even better with each update. Pros: Easy setup, IFTTT compatibility, helps to save energy by monitoring usage, convenient rules are easy to use Cons: 5-10 second delay on IFTTT actions, reporting feature in the app is frustrating to use, still pretty big, firmware updates are painfully slow, lacks a web interface for configuration without a mobile device
