Very Satisfied.

I think that there's one caveat in setting up this speaker-system. When we unpack it, the instructions try to guide us into programming the universal remote. The problem is that the universal remote was already programmed to work out-of-the-box, and if the user tries to program it, the user could just end up rendering the remote useless. Aside from that, I had less than 90cm of space on my furniture, for which reason I could not buy a 90-91cm sound-bar, and settled for this one, the performance of which strikes me as ample. I guess that the bass response is not spectrally uniform, which would be the ideal. But non-linear frequency-response at bass frequencies is also to be expected, with simple reflex-type speakers, which may have been computer-designed, but which will always have some limitations stemming from small sizes. With this sound-bar, I get to choose by how much I want to boost the bass electronically, so that I can keep it quiet at night and not disturb my neighbors, or I can choose to apply some amount of bass during the day, to enjoy a movie.

Empty sound

I don't know how people are saying this thing has good bass. I was worried when I saw how small the box was, and after bringing it home and giving it a listen I have discovered this thing sounds like 90's computer speakers. Maybe it would be good with a sub add-on or something, but I am returning it for sure.

Actually, a Great Buy

It sounds very clean, distortion-free and atmospheric with the TV optical output connected to the sound bar. The remote works perfectly with my LG TV, Sony Blu-ray and Rogers cable box. The installation was easy and straightforward. I had some reservations before I bought this unit as it sounded a little dull in the noisy environment of the big box store. But I decided to buy it to try it at home and I'm glad I did.

I almost returned it, but glad I didn't.

I bought this for my bedroom because I didn't want a separate subwoofer for the bedroom. Now you have to remember most 2.0 soundbars don't sound all that great. I have other Bose products so at first I thought this sounbar was not all that great, but I gave it some time and it does have a bass port on the back so once it's mounted on the wall it actually has decent bass for what it is. So in summary it took a week to grow on me, but it isn't that bad. I think the bass is respectable for what it is, the sound isn't as rich as you would normally expect from a Bose product, but again it's a 2.0 soundbar so don't set your expectations too high and you won't be disappointed. My only complaint is I find the high tones to be bit high, but I'm working on this with my TV's EQ settings. It will never wow you like most Bose products, but I think for a 2.0 soundbar it performs reasonably well.

Awesone great sound!

So I've researched many sound bars...tons of reviews on you tube..google the countless...."Best Soundbars of 2017".....yada...yada..you know the drill.....you can review all the sounds bars up the ying yang...and still find all kinds of reviews saying how bad the Bose sound solo 5 is compared to Sony etc..., Vizio sound is much better...yada yada...does not come with the subwoofer...yada yada...bass not strong enough..yada yada... Well since I already have the Bose Soundlink Mini and I was blown away by it...I decide to go for this Bose Solo 5 despite some negative reviews. C'mon...it's a Bose! I already have a Sony 5.1 surround sound but the system which is a bit old too hook up to newer devices like my tablet and etc. Plus all that wiring....I never considered wiring up the house. Troublesome with all that wiring. Well ha!!! All I can say is wow!!.....The solo 5 has great sound and good bass. Tested it out on my blue ray Indiana jones....I felt the bass thumping was great and good enough. Sure it not as good as my subwoofer but man, it does sound great with such clarity. I may just get rid of my 5.1 system. Clean setup..no 5.1 wiring and so many speakers to deal with. And last night while we were watching a another movie....the smoke alarm in the movie was so clear I thought it was coming from the kitchen. It wasn't obvious in the movie that the smoke alarm went off. So, I actually got up from the couch....and my wife said it's the movie...I said..what??....that was the first for me getting confused of the sound..so real... That's how good the bose sound was. And I have an LG 40" TV.older model 1080P. I thought my TV speakers sounded great. Now, the sound from the TV really sounds flat even with the built in surround sound on when compared to the Bose. I have this setup in my large family room and the sound fills it with no problem. It goes really loud!!.

Plug and Play. Sounds Nice.

I bought this sound bar as a compliment to my monitor without speakers. Installation was a breeze. I connected the unit by way of a 3.5 mm (analog) audio cable so I can't say how it works with the included optical cable or a coaxial one. On movies that offer multiple sound tracks, surround sound sources result in a noticeably better experience than stereo ones -as they should. The Dialog feature brings out spoken dialog noticeably. I use it a lot. The unit starts at medium volume after being turned so if you want to use your computer control the volume, make sure you raise the volume maximum each time you turn it on. The unit doesn't have a physical power switch so if you don't want it to draw stand-by current overnight, you need to unplug it. The remote contains many features to control TV's and stereo equipment, but since my monitor can't be remote controlled, I haven't tried any of them.

Warning: Not compatible with Videotron remote controls / now I can't return it...

The performance is very ordinary. Only a little better that the TV speakers. Comes with a large and bulky universal remote control. Since I am a user of Videotron cable services, I wanted to connect my Videotron universal remote control to the sound bar because I do not want to use a second bulky remote to control sound only. Tried to program it myself with the instructions in the Videotron manual with no success. I admittedly procrastinated to call the Videotron technical support in order to ask for their help. After multiple tries with the technician, the final verdict was that this Bose unit is "to new" for all the Videotron remotes on the market. In other words I am stuck with 2 remotes if I keep the unit. I bought the unit on April 19th and by the time I found out the verdict it was May 9th when I tried to bring it back to Best Buy. Yes I was 20 days over the limit of the Best Buy return policy. It seems that they have no leniency for 20 days. I can understand... HOWEVER BEST BUY BETTER UNDERSTAND THAT THEY WILL NEVER SEE MY FACE AGAIN.

Compact Powerhouse

I bought the Bose Solo 5 to complement my Samsung 28" TV. The TV speakers have a pronounced resonance and are unpleasant to listen to. The Bose was easy to set up and operate. The only connecting cords are the power supply and optical cable (supplied). I did not use the Bluetooth function, so I cannot comment on that. All the sound emanates from a pair of 2" full-range speakers mounted at the centre of the unit and angled outward. One effectively has a choice between two sound settings: Default and dialogue (clear voice). Only the volume and bass levels are adjustable, not the treble. The bass is surprisingly good, but not as deep as a separate subwoofer. The unit has two drawbacks: First, I found the default sound setting to be relatively indistinct at low volume. Second, the unit does not have a virtual surround sound setting, only stereo. But on the whole, the sound from the Solo 5 is relatively flat, with little or no discernable resonance.

Quality sound in a small form factor

This unit offers decent sound for the price point and size of the unit. The key thing to remember is that this unit is not supposed to sound better than the 15 series or a unit with more speakers and a sub-woofer. Check your expectations before you make the decision to buy it. This product serves a specific need : decent sound in a small form-factor. As far as the remote is concerned, I was quite surprised and pleased. The BOSE remote has replaced my Shaw Gateway, Sony TV, and Apple TV remotes. Contrary to what some reviews here say, the remote does control volume with Apple TV (3rd and 4th Gen). Some patience and technical know-how is required to find the right IR codes to match to your remotes. Bottom line - make sure you understand your expectations and requirements and see if they match up with what this product offers. If you're looking for big sound with thumping base - buy something else at a different price point. If you're looking for quality in small package - this unit is for you.

Bose solo 5 soundbar

Didn't want to deal with speakers for surround sound so this was a good substitute. Good sound in a small space.

Stopped working after 28 days

I bought this small sound bar because it was a good fit for my small TV set. the sound quality is mmm ok but the are some cons about this product, like the 1. remote control which is very uncomfortable looks like old time remotes. 2. you can't control the sound volume with your appleTV. 3. and it stopped working just after 28 day! I tried all the solution provided by manufacturer and they didn't work! I was lucky I was able to return it before 30 days! I won't buy any other product from this brand, I lost my confidence. probably I will go with SONY.

Not what you expect from Bose

Bought this as this is Bose! Wrong ! Even with this thing costing half of the Solo 15, this doesn't give what its Name expecting for. 1. Bass is not strong, nor the vocal enhance function. It's barely better than my tv speakers. 2. One of the worst draw back is, the universal remote control. It doesn't program my Samsung TV nor Bell Satellite terminal (6131). Probably will work with other ones. 3. This Bose doesn't learn infrared, so if your TV/ satellite remote doesn't support Bose, then you are out of luck. Always carry two remote with you to volume up or down while switching channels. 4. There's only two LED on the left of the speakers, it turns and blink in yellow/ green. Have a good luck on guessing !

Excellent product

I bought this for our new tv primarily because I got another bose system for my father and it sounded amazing right out of the box. This Solo 5 also sounds great and was a breeze to set up. Universal remote is nice too, highly recommended!

Bose quality at low end price...

Installed this unit yesterday in my bedroom and I've not wanted to leave since. Sound it crisp, clear and at times I'd swear surround sound. In a 12x13 room, it makes an amazing difference and I would highly recommend to anyone who doesn't want to mess with a complete surround sound system. It's a breeze to set up, comes with everything you need to plug and play. Though it's the lower end of the spectrum, it carries the quality you expect from Bose. You get what you pay for is true, but for this one you're paying for the Bose quality. Just ordered my second for the living room.
