Had for 3 years now. Makes a great cup of coffee without any issues. I'm not sure about what others are talking about with high maintenance as I have not had to do anything other than clean the bean chute every few months and descale when the machine has indicated. I would for sure buy another

Does not worth it

Mine broke with Error 001 after six months. Open Warranty claim and have been waiting over 4 week without any answer about the replacement. Poor quality and even worse customer services.

Breville Grind Control

Save your money, overpriced coffee maker. You must constantly clean the grinder, wastes a lot of beans, takes up a lot of room. Just a waste of money, regret buying it.

  • from Bedford, NS

Nice concept but not there yet

When it is working properly, it makes a nice and very fresh cup of coffee. BUT, unlike the standard coffee machines, this is very picky and gets easily messed up by the small amounts of residue or ground built-up. Even with cleaning after EVERY use, you still get that annoying error code "001". I have had my unit for 3 months so far and use it about once a day. I have just emailed customer support because I'm starting to get annoyed by the recurring error messages even though I DO routinely clean it after every use. I looked into this a bit deeper and this issue is not uncommon so beware before you buy. Last point I'd like to make is the grinder noise level ... considering the price, I find it loud (compared to the grinders they use in their espresso machines).

  • from Saskatoon, SK

Beware - Water valve is easily plugged.

DO NOT BUY ! THIS PRODUCT SHOULD HAVE A SAFETY RECALL! I have had two separate models of this coffee maker. The unit is great but can become totally inoperable easily. Problem is tiny pieces of coffee bean may fall into the water chamber which then plug the one way water valve open. When this happens the unit will billows very hot steam which can damage surfaces above or around the unit & may create an electrical shock hazard. I have had to disassemble these units and clear the blockage in the valve. Hey Breville, a simple filter on the water intake line would cure this issue 100% ! What have you done to address this problem ??

Makes a great coffee but, only when it works

While it can make a great cup of coffee, it needs a lot of maintenance, and I have already sent mine back for a replacement. I would not purchase it again.

  • from Dorval, QC

If you must buy, get extended warranty on it

Grinder is not designed to last, it will brake, it's a question of when. Carafe design is deficient, it requires you to put it up side down to get the last cup Liquid adjustment is not consistent, you may ask 10 onze cup and get 6

Love the product

Great product and great coffee. Really like the machine. So far (3 weeks) no issues. The machine is easy to use and the screens are easy to read and understand. Totally recommend it.

  • from Olds, AB

Love it...

Read lots of reviews previous to purchase. Got exactly what I wanted. Grinds the beans and makes perfect coffee. Clean up is not difficult. Just a rinse at sink and let air dry. Honestly not difficult. Would buy it again for sure. Never been disappointed in Breville. Win/win!! Trying to hit 5 stars but can't get it to work??

Makes a great cup of coffee " But "

Had the machine 8 months now , it makes a great cup of coffee . But it has been replaced twice now under warranty. I don't hold out much hope for the replacement machine lasting very long either , I do enjoy the machine but would I buy another absolutely not . There is a lot of cleaning and maintenance involved in owning it and the week or two while waiting for the replacement is also painful. Do your self a favour and buy a good coffee grinder and the good old Melita boil and brew . The coffee is every bit as good with out all the grief that goes with owning this machine.

This is a tall coffee maker

I cannot review this coffee maker because I did not get a chance to use it! It is so tall that it did not fit under my kitchen cabinet and I had to return it. I have the usual amount of clearance under my cabinets (for any cabinets with trim on the bottom). Without the trim, the machine would have fit, so it depends on the design of your cabinets. Don't be like me. Measure first :)

Pros & Cons Review

Hello, Ive had this machine for over 4 months and heres what I think will help you make your decision on buying one or stick to something cheaper: Cons: - You're buying a breville so the price is going to be double but with cool features - You need to clean the machine after each use, unlike your current kne where you use a permanent filteror use paper ones. Once you make your coffee there are a couple of more cleaning steps - You can't pour more water in the machine after you press start, I mean you can but you'll get coffee flavoured water. Ex// I went for a 5 cup once, notice that there was enough water for 6 cups but wanted to make sure I'm covered for tomorrow as well so i added more water, the machine had enough coffee for 5 cups but used 11 cups of water. - Much bigger than you have in mind, watch a youtube video to find the actual size of this machine Pros: - Decent machine, very well built - All items you need is in one machine - It's a coversation starter - Easy to use and high tech - Makes decent coffee but if you're ok with Tims coffee then stick to a cheaper machine. Alright up to you...

I purchased this coffee maker last week and WOW! what an excellent machine! As long as you read the start guide to this machine you will not have any issues! there are lots of negative reviews on the plastic taste and the cleaning of the machine. Again if you follow the manufactures instructions on the first use step you will not have any issues. If you have 30 seconds after the machine has brewed your coffee to clean it, you will be good to go. This machine lives up to the Breville name. If you are in the market for a new machine, I highly recommend this unit. Especially if you can get it on sale.

Bad Machine

I bought this machine two months ago. Within the first two weeks the LCD would light up but nothing would appear. Obviously it was dead. I took it back. I got a second machine. Sometimes it does not fill a whole cup, sometimes it does. Many times we had guests, we set it for 8 cups we got around 3. In addition to that: 1. It requires a lot of maintenance. 2. You can never get all of the brew out of the carafe. 3. The coffee temperature is inconsistent and so is the strength. This machine looked great and the specs were wonderful. It does not deliver.

A single machine for making great burr ground drip coffee.

We really like this coffee maker. It's well known that the best cup of coffee comes from freshly ground beans and this machine can produce a good range of grind sizes for whatever coffee bean you've chosen. The grinder is designed for making drip coffee and it can be calibrated for a particular bean. What we like best is that it's an all-in-one, it has the ability to brew various sizes of single brew cups (8 - 20 oz) and each individual cup can be brewed to its own strength which is especially nice if you want your cup to be brewed to your own personal liking. All you have to do is set the cup size, the brew strength, and machine brews accordingly. Similarly for brewing a pot of coffee into the carafe you set how many cups you want to brew and how strong you'd like that pot to be. Each setting has their own adjustment knob. There's also a water level gauge and will warn you if there's not enough water in the reservoir for the number of cups you've chosen to make. If you have pre-ground coffee you can brew that too by simply turning the grind feature off. No need to empty the bean hopper when brewing pre-ground. The well insulated carafe keeps coffee hot and it can not become over cooked as it needs no keep-warm burner. If you're the type of person that doesn't like the extra bit of effort it takes to clean the grinder then stick to using conventional drip brewers with pre-ground coffee as this machine is not made with you in mind. Cheers.

Lasts only 6 months

We brew 2 carafe's a day for the office and this machine is holding up somewhat. Brews a fabulous cup of coffee. The other option was to buy those commercial coffee makers. This is still lower cost compared to those machines even with the machine lasting about 6 months. Most friends with the commercial machines complain about the hot water pump and the grinder getting jammed. The Breville Grinder does get jammed if we use high quality oily beans. So we vacuum the machine out just like they do in Starbucks. Bottom line, this machine produces great coffee and is lower cost option for a medium sized office.

Cool idea, poor execution

We really, really liked this thing when it worked. It worked most of the time over 6 months, but needed a lot of maintenance to do so. You have to constantly clean the disk, keep the grinding area free from moisture (which is hard if one person makes a cup, washes the filter, and then someone else wants to make a cup before the filter has dried.) And now, 6 months after we bought it, its outright stopped working. You push start, and nothing happens for a minute, and then you get a 001 error. Cool idea, but unfortunately its kind of a piece of crap in terms of the actual build. We would return it if we could, but we have to work with warranty. As of today (Dec 4) I can't even access the Breville website to put in a warranty claim as my Antivirus tells me the website is infected by a virus. Poor show from Breville.

Had ours for 3 years...

This is an amazing machine for coffee lovers. We had this machine for 3 years now and the only drawback has been the 'chemical' smell or taste in the coffee for the first month or so. It's not terrible. I'm sure there's a trick to eliminate it. The strengths of coffee are spot on. The measurements for cups of brewed coffee are exact as well. The timer to grind coffee and brew is excellent as a wake-up alarm ;) In our house we had to grind ahead of time before bed because some of us wake up at different hours. Key thing is cleaning the areas as suggested by Breville. I would toss the spent coffee immediately and wash and dry. My wife leaves it all day until the next grind (not recommended) but it still works well! We used to put hot water in the carafe before brewing to keep the coffee hot, however, we stopped doing that as the carafe remains hot for 4 hours after brewing anyway. Some have commented on the remaining coffee in the carafe - I didn't see that as a problem since there's only maybe 50 ml left (not much) and usually that's where the fines of grind lay...who wants a mouth full of chalky grinds? Perhaps the only design flaw is the carafe. When pouring coffee, for some reason it dribbles coffee next to the cup. it's a bit annoying. Hopefully they updated the machine and cleared that flaw. Highly recommended. Our next one will be the same machine when our current one konks out.

Best Coffee Maker EVER..!!

I have owned the original grind and brew Breville for 5 years now and it is still going strong...! I'm a coffee snob and this machine brews a better cup than anything Starbucks or Tims can offer. The control of the strength and boldness is a huge plus. Add beans a filter and water and push a button. The plastic taste people complain about.? That is so not the case. Maybe for the first few pots..? I dunno. One thing to keep in mind is the beans you choose. I went through numerous brands before settling on one that offered the best taste to me. As for cleaning it..? As they always say "You have to be smarter than the machine" Take your time to clean it properly. Every time you use it clean the little stainless disc. And at least once a month pull the hopper and grinding burr and clean the nooks in the machine and the burr. I use the little bristle brush provided and a vacuum cleaner. If you care about quality coffee use filtered water and find a bean you like and give this machine TLC and it will reward you with cup after cup of liquid joy for years. People and their first world problems expect everything to be idiot proof and take zero effort. Well this machine gets you most of the way there. The rest is up to the owner.

buy it if you do not like strong coffee

I like a real good coffee, close to the espresso strength. It is that sort of coffee which builds on one important thing: good grinding. And that is precisely what this machine does NOT deliver. At best (on the very last 8th setting) you may get a decent drip-type coffee ... but if you need more, this machine is not for you. So, I had to return the machine on the next day after buying it ... and since I wanted it to shine, I cleaned it up thoroughly. While cleaning, I could see that even a routine cleaning was not a quick thing - and I needed a machine for my morning coffee when I am in rush-to-work mode! So, if you do not have time for good cleaning, do not buy it. But for fairness ... if you feel OK with coffee regulars that you get in fast-food shops, then you will be more than satisfied with the machine.

Best coffee ever

Simply the best mach on the market. The quality is top notch and makes the best cup of coffee,,, Nothing beats waking up to the smell of fresh coffee!! For all the people that complain about not getting all the coffee out, open the lid and you will get the last drop out:)

  • from Barrie ON

Good Coffee!

I was able to order this on sale which made the price more appealing. The Breville is high quality and the design and engineering is well thought out. The thermal carafe keeps the coffee hot for a long time if pre-warmed.

  • from Toronto, ON

I purchased this coffee maker because I felt badly about all of the waste generated by our coffee machine that used pods. I immediately noticed some issues with the Breville machine 1. it is nearly impossible to get all of the coffee out of the carafe 2. a cleaned carafe continued to smell like stale coffee after just a few brewing cycles. However, there were some good points too, the coffee was excellent and remained hot for hours after brewing. I recently cleaned my coffee maker, something that I have done every few weeks since the purchase 8 months ago and when reassembling it something just did not fit right. Now the bean hopper is jammed making the machine all but useless. I will search out assistance from the manufacturer to fix the problem but would not purchase this machine again.

just looooove it

awesome machine

  • from Ottawa, ON

Good machine

I have only had this for a few days and made about 6 pots, it's easier to operate and makes better coffee than the Capresso Coffee Team TS10 that it replaced, and my oily beans don't get stuck in the hopper like they did with the Capresso. It's easier to use and after a few brews, no issues with cleaning. Much quieter also and doesn't generate the clouds of steam at the end of the brew that Capresso did, which damaged my kitchen cabinets. Note the dimensions listed on this site are wrong, it's not 19.57" high, it's about 16.5" plus the knob on top sticks out another inch.. So it will fit under standard kitchen cabinets as long as you don't have trim below, although you do have to pull it forwards to fill it. I recommend checking on the Breville site to make sure. Yes the coffee is a bit hard to pour, but it's not a deal breaker. I haven't tried the single cup option yet.

Breville grind and brew

This makes fantastic coffee My only note is that the carafe is hard to empty completely due to the lip I do realize however in order to keep the coffee warm ,there cannot be a pouring spout So far so good

  • from Squamish, BC

Sooooo disappointed!!!

I read copious reviews about this machine and I was super excited to get it. What a letdown!! Right away we noticed a "chemical-y" taste to our coffee so we tried different grinds, beans, water, strength etc. to see if it was something we could control. Turns out that plastic taste probably has something to do with materials that the machine is made with - something that happens in alot of coffee makers unfortunately. I really, really wanted to love this machine and the features are really great but that toxic taste just killed it for us :(. I have to hand it to Best Buy though; I called them 2 months into the use of the machine and they right away offered to take it back.

  • from Calgary, AB

Great except for 2 things

Great coffee maker. Add water and press a button. Two issues. A lot of cleaning required including very difficult spots inside. Also, with the design of the pot, you can't get all of the coffee out without turning it upside down and shaking it. Probably 1/2 cup never gets drunk.

  • from Burnaby, BC

Coffeemaker broke down after only 6 months!

We bought the Breville Grind Control in December 2015. By June 2016 the grind control was not working nor was the water indicator. I called Best Buy - had to call Breville - Breville said to ship it back to them and they would replace it. Shipped in back on June 14. It is now June 30 and the coffeemaker is in transit and likely to arrive on July 5. Terrible coffee maker and terrible service by Breville. No more Breville at our house.

Great Grinder. Much better then any coffee from Tim's or SBacks. Recommended!!!😉

  • from Toronto, ON

To be succinct, this is the best type of Grind and Brew Machine for the home on the market. Simple to use (5 year old can use it), excellent manufacture/build, and makes a superb cup of coffee, from whole beans or pre-ground coffee. It is used daily, sometimes multiple times per day, and it is running as smooth as the first day of use. Once you use this machine, one will never return to Tim Horton's or instant coffee. In my opinion Tim Horton's coffee is diluted poor quality coffee. In Addition, after a month of buying Tim Horton's slop, you can purchase this machine. There is no substitute for the Breville Grind Control, highly recommended for those who appreciate different types of coffee made from whole beans from all over the world.

  • from Toronto, ON

my Christmas present to myself

I love my coffee maker. The smell in the morning makes me want to get up. Its better then Tim Hortons. It took awhile to adjust the grind and the strength. After a few different tries with the settings its the perfect cup.We really enjoy our coffee a lot more now..

  • from Cochrane, AB

solid machine

Like the flexibility to make single cups as well as partial pots. Coffee tastes good though if you want really hot coffee, pre-rinse the thermal pot or your cup with hot water beforehand.

  • from Edmonton

Great Machine

I love this machine. I am a coffee snob and it works great. Fresh ground coffee from one cup to an entire thermal pot. The only issue I have found is sometimes the dispenser can plug making the next cup weak. However, I also found that the part that holds the basket (I call it the dispenser) can be easily removed and rinsed in just seconds. I am trying to get away from using the K cups due to the environment and wastage and this is an equally easy way to brew a single cup. I also use a 2-4 cup disposable coffee filter to decrease the grounds in the bottom. This seems to fit inside the other filter easily. I think in the end, this makes a better cup of coffee that is better for the environment and far more cost effective then any of the other single brew I have seen. It's lots of money up front but well worth it.

Two Units Down

I purchased the first unit in October. By November it had done quite a few cups and pots. While grinding the beans, the grinder would randomly slow down during grinding and sounded very laboured. The coffee then tasted very plastic like. We check and tried cleaning the unit, but it was still clean. This happened a few more times on different occasions, and then it stopped grinding all together. I tried contacting Breville, but no one got back to me. I then used the extended warranty I had purchased and got a new unit (buying the warranty again) figuring that unit was just flawed. The new unit worked fine (got it two weeks ago). Today it did the same thing with the laboured sound during grinding and no coffee was dispersed into the filter. I am currently in contact with Breville, and am hoping we can figure something out.

Worth Every Penny!

Purchased on sale for [price], this coffee maker replaced our Keurig. The Breville is awesome! You can make a cup or a carafe and adjust the settings to make the coffee exactly how you like it. Doubles as an alarm clock - best way to wake up in the morning is to the sound of grinding beans and the smell of fresh brewed coffee.

  • from Delta, BC

This thing is Sweet

I have been looking at buying this and when the recent sale price came into effect I took the plunge. Best coffee maker I've ever had! Brews a mean cup of coffee. Auto on feature in the morning is nice too and you can't beat the fresh ground smell that our previous pod type coffee maker did not provide.

  • from Saint Albert, AB

It passed the test!

I purchased the Breville Grind Control as a gift for my daughter and son-in-law. They're coffee snobs and super picky about their coffee. They love it!!! To quote my SIL, " Seriously, I should not be this excited over a coffee maker!" I've also seen them recommending it to their friends on facebook :)

A considerable upgrade from the Breville Youbrew

First off, not everyone will know that this is a new machine; one that is substantially different from the previous Breville Youbrew model. This was released March/2015 Overall it is a solidly built machine with a number of easy to use features and few drawbacks Positives: 1) The coffee, when brewed into the carafe, stays hot for 3+ hours. Wasn't expecting this. I thought the thermal carafe wouldn't work (it does). Double walled stainless steel. 2) Number of controls have been reduced, but all functionality has been retained from the earlier model. Didn't need to read the manual the first time I used it. 3) You can set the grind size from 1-6, with increments in between each discrete number. The default of 3 is good for this machine, but it makes it very easy to compensate for bean type or serving type (carafe, single serve or cold coffee). 4) You can set the strength from 1-8, and have the ability to calibrate the grinder for weight of beans dispensed (and this would vary with the type/origin of beans and how long ago they've been roasted). 5) The water dispenser is a modified type of showerhead sprayer; so you'll end up with a more even extraction of the beans, somewhat similar to a pourover brewwer -reducing the chances of overextraction. 6) The coffee brews very hot. Negatives: 1) The coffee grinds will eventually build up over time, so you really have to keep on top of cleaning the filter basket grind inlet area and grinds chute. Condensation from the hot water facilitates buildup of coffee dust/grinds/powder. I clean the assembly once every 2 uses. 2) Once you've removed the bean hopper and disassembled the top part of the burr grinder, it is still difficult to remove all the remaining pieces of ground beans from the lower burr blade. Solution I use is to run a calibration grind and just let it empty thoroughly. Using the supplied gone tole filter basket gives you a 'brighter' tasting cup, but with a bit of sediment at the bottom, kinda like what you'd get with a french press. Using a paper basket filter eliminates the sediment but gives you a slightly less bright cup. The grinder isn`t horribly loud, but it can wake you up if you`re a light sleeper. The maximum height of a single travel mug that can fit under the coffee dispenser (even when the drip tray is removed) is 7 inchesé17.5 cm. A Timmy`s travel mug won`t fit.

Fantastic machine

I bought the prior version for a small office environment (4) because of the thermal carafe. It continues to work great 4 years later and I have since bought another as we have 15 people in the office now. Both get a lot of use every day and have not given us a problem. I can't wait for my home machine to pcak it in so I can justify buying one for my house.
