Not worth the price!

I've used my Canary security camera for about a year. After the last few software upgrades Canary is basically forcing you to buy an expensive membership to get any usefulness out of the camera. Options that were once free and useful now need a membership to work. My hat goes off to Canary for selling an relatively expensive camera and them making it useless until you buy a membership which is not cheap. I will never buy another security camera that depends on outside servers to work.

Bait and switch

I bought this about 4 months ago and it was "ok" in that it did the job but is nothing i would rely upon for anything would recognize the user being home and away maybe 40 percent of the time. I would have to set this manually when leaving so it would record motion the majority of the time. The app crashes and again is unreliable in that sometimes i have to reboot my phone to watch the live stream. It just feels like a rushed and unfinished product. Now Canary as a company pulled the most dirtiest underhanded thing i have ever experienced with a piece of tech hardware. They removed recording any clips over 10 seconds unless you subscribe to their monthly service. This was previously free and this new limitation simply makes the camera useless. This is a total bait and switch and should be illegal if its not already. Imagine your home being broke into but you cant show the police any of the footage this camera captured because you didnt pony up for their premium service. Its extortion. If i knew they would take away features after i purchased the camaera i would never of bought it. BEWARE. As of now you get a disabled camera that cant record over 10 seconds unless you pay their monthly fee. This should not be tolerated by any consumer and this company really needs to go out of buisness as if this is the future of electronics its a nightmare. Also if a company like this lacks the morals to see taking away recording feature of a camera unless you pay is wrong. Would you trust them having all your recorded videos inside your home uploaded and residing on their servers?

Don't buy this brand.

highly not recommended for those who are looking for a security camera. choose besides this brand. the initial features included at the time of purchase, removed instantly and we are forced to pay to be able to use it again. we buy your product is not cheap. the company said there are million of recorded videos unwatched, makes the system slow and cost in cloud expenses. but you can just limit how many clips per day or video duration to be shorter like 1 to 3 minutes. instead of only 10 second. and also removed the night mode recording schedule? really? why don’t you removed all the recording as well? and forced us to pay if want to activated the device.

Not Impressed -- Will be Scaping and Purchase Another Brand

When I bought this about 8 months ago it stated "two way communication", and it even came with the cable too pair with smart-phone. I could never get it hooked up and since I am away quite a bit I just left it. Now they want a monthly fee in order to achieve two way voice. They have also placed their 'fee' on what you can do with the night-time absolute renege on services that were initially stated. For buyer's who don't mind a monthly fee, then go for it; the video and night vision are acceptable. For those not wanting monthly another product!

"No Contracts or Required Monthly Fee" is now a lie.

Canary is now forcing people to pay for a service they used to offer for free. Now you only get 10 second previews of the activity unless you pay monthly rendering the product useless. If I would have known this was going to be the case I would have bought a d-link or the netgear camera. What was changed (summary): - If you don't pay you only get a 10 second video preview of the motion only if the motion passes their algorithm. - You can't download anything UNLESS you pay. You only get to bookmark it on your timeline, which gets deleted every 24 hours. - No more night mode. So you can't have it automatically start recording at night on a schedule.

It is a completely useless device now as everything which used to be free before is not anymore.

Good camera. I have the arlo, and Canary. The new update allows you to speak over the internet, but you must have a monthly membership. This is pretty horrible, due to the fact Arlo does this for free. Total money grab

Very Dependable so far

Have been using the Canary All in one for a Month and am very satisfied with it so far. No false detections except for the dog which I expected, and using the App away from home works great on WiFi or on My Data plan. Really like the option of putting the Canary on Private when someone is at home. Great System hoping the Canary Flex will soon be available in Canada soon.

Works as advertised

Overall this works well. I have the Canary app installed on my I-phone 6 and when watching live with a Wi-fi connection I have not experienced any problems. The camera requires a power outlet so that could limit where you want to place it. It can really only see out clearly about 20 feet then it gets fuzzy but the camera angle is pretty wide. Can zoom in as well which is nice. Great for an apartment. May need two or more of these to monitor a house completely. Temperature sensor and sound work greatl. Good little unit for monitoring your house or condo when away. The minimal 12 hours of included event storage works fine but the 12 hours is disappointing. A full day of free storage would be better. Of course Canary can up-sell you more storage for a price. 1 week, 1 month, or 1 year cloud storage is available but its pricey.

Great Product

Bought this product to monitor an empty house located in another town. Easy to set up and use. Notifications drove me mad until Canary added a sensitivity control that solved this problem. Still get notifications if someone enters the house who does not have a smart phone and part of the family. Picture quality excellent both during the day and at night. Hope Canary add notifications for air quality and temperature soon!

Software & features could be better

This is one of the better security live cameras on the market, but I can't understand why or how they expect you to pay for an additional fee to have the ability to download and view your video. The major drawbacks are. 1) it's only accessible via a mobile app 2) it's not compatible with Google nest 3) it's not easy to add secondary users 4) you must pay for the service to download videos 5) It's got a very limited feature set. I'm fairly confident this product can be better, and will get better, but for now, I'm not sure that there's any other 1 stop shop product like this on the market.

Can't believe they sell this

This is the worst unit available. It's so unreliable. The alerts are worthless. Pick up a drop cam. Any review that says different is someone working for canary.

Peace of mind while I'm away!

This is pretty awesome. I got this from a friend, and it basically records any movements that happen when you're not at home, and sends you the video to your phone. You can even let it record when you're at home (you won't get an alert though), which makes for some funny videos sometimes. I like it because I feel like someone (well, something) is watching my home when I'm away, and should anything ever happen I can sound an alarm (it's pretty loud and would definitely scare anyone out!) or call for help. Something I didn't know I needed until I had it!

Not happy

If you need camera that you can check here and there what is happening in your house. Turn off notifications otherwise they will make you crazy. They say it is smart device and that will learn but it never learn. I always get fake notifications during night as cars drive at front of my house. You cannot setup canary to trigger alarm only you can do it after getting notification and reacting... This device can't be your alarm. Maybe in future when someone will be smart enough to implement software in it to do what it supposed to do.

Amazing device but requires high upload speed

#1 priority before buying this unit: make sure that your upload speed is more than 1mbps or else the device will not give you any live feed. It still records but the recording are not very good either at speeds bellow 1mbps. Other than that this piece of gear "seems" amazing, easy to setup and the all the features added together exceeds any other cameras on the market today. If you have the connection for it, look no further this is the best one out there!
