More Information

The Nifty Fifty

  • This Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM prime lens is lightweight, portable, and versatile, making it the perfect travelling companion for that trip to Paris you've got coming up. Ideal for portraits, close-ups, and street photography, this lens is a fantastic fit for full-frame DSLRs and doubles well as a portrait lens on APS-C cameras.
  • This 50mm fixed focal length prime lens is great for a day out sightseeing and does well in low-light conditions thanks to its f/1.4 maximum aperture. That means your pics of your evening stroll down the Champs-Élysées will come out in sharp detail.

Impressive imagery

  • The EF 50mm f/1.4 USM is equipped with 2 high-refraction lens elements and Gaussian optics to eliminate astigmatism and suppress astigmatic difference. The result? Sharp images with minimal flare even at the maximum aperture.
  • The 8-blade aperture lets you get creative with your photos. You can focus in on your friend standing at the top of the Eiffel Tower while defocusing the background to create a beautiful bokeh effect for a truly stunning photo.

Stay focused

  • This lens features the extra-small Micro USM autofocus so you can quickly and quietly focus in on your subject. This'll ensure those shots of Venus de Milo at the Louvre are taken without disturbing your fellow art admirers. If your camera's autofocus isn't getting the job done, or you prefer to be totally hands-on, you can always switch to the full-time manual focus.

Canon EF 50mm F1.4 LENSE

This is first time to try a fixed length portrait LENSE, and it definitely gives what's expected result. And the picture quality is much better than that of my 18-135mm LENSE on the 60D.

Great Nifty Fifty to Own!

Great lens. The bokeh at f/1.4 is amazing. Build quality is far superior than the f/1.8. My only complaint is the auto focusing. Sometimes it takes longer to focus.

good but pricey

Try to get this lens on sale if possibel. It is an excellent lens, very fast and clean. focusing speeds are generally incredible. If you don't NEED 1.4f in a portrait lens, Canon's 50mm 1.8 is your lens as it is significantly less expensive. As another commentor posted, this may not be a good upgrade from the Canon 50mm f1.8 as the extra price will hardly seem worth the upgrade, but there is definitely a noticeable difference in the lenses. Another feature of thise one over the f1.8 is the manual focusing is easier and smoother on this lens with a wider focusing ring. If money's not much of an object and you are willing to pay the premium, this lens won't let you down.

Good lenses, but not worth the price.

The Canon EF 50mm f1.8 II lens being one of my favorite lens I own, I tought of upgrading it to this one. Is this one better? Undeniably, but considering the Canon EF 50mm f1.8 II cost about 25% of the price of this one, the difference in build quality, USM and picture quality doesn't justify paying this much for this lens. Especially when you look at the picture quality, as I can't a difference as some shots seem better on the cheap lens and other seems better on the this one. After 10 days fiddling with it, I ended up returning it. To conclude, if you need a good portrait lens or a a lens good in low light and don't mind the low build quality, get the Canon EF 50mm f1.8 II instead. If you want the absolute best lens of this type I would spend a bit more and try the Sigma 50mm F1.4 EX DG HSM instead. Tested with a Canon Rebel T1i

specialized lens, but super results

I bought the lens eight months ago, for portraits. I wanted something that was good in low light conditions. The results have been amazing. The lens is fast. I can capture my one year old, and our puppy. The lens is decent in low light conditions, works really well with a flash, it's superb outdoors. The lens has a fixed focal distance, so for group photos it works a little better outdoors. I've found indoors my distance is limited to four or five people in the picture. My outdoor photos are the ones that are really worth the price.

Amateur Takes Geat Picyures

I have been messing with photography for a number of years. This lens has altered my photographic acumen. I rarely have the desire to snap on the old zoom lens and have never before taken the quality of photos that this lens can produce. An excellent addition indeed.
