If you've ever driven away from home only to realize you've forgotten to close your garage door, worry no more. Thanks to Chamberlain MyQ Garage, all you need is a smartphone and a WiFi network, and you're ready to open and close your garage door from anywhere, even after you've left home.

More Information

Driving home after a long day at work, you pull up to your driveway and begin reaching for your garage door opener. You slam on the brakes because something is glaringly wrong. Your garage door is wide open and has been since your distracted departure that same morning.

The Chamberlain MyQ Garage controller eliminates those unintended invitations to criminals. It lets you control the garage door from anywhere you are -- at work, running errands at the mall -- using your smart phone and a WiFi connection.

Even if you don't suspect you left the garage door open, the Chamberlain MyQ sends you notifications alerting you if you did. So even if you don't have that nagging feeling something is wrong, the MyQ Garage is on the case.

Why you need this:

  • WiFi ready: MyQ Garage installs in minutes and works with your home's internet network.
  • Free app: MyQ Garage comes with a free app for controlling and monitoring your garage door; it doesn't require any monthly fees or service charges.
  • Be alert: Receive customized alerts when your door opens or closes, or when you accidentally forget to close it.
  • Compatible: It works with most brands of garage door openers manufactured after 1993 while using safety reversing sensors located at the bottom of the garage door track.

highly recommended

it was very easy to install. I have a Craftsman opener from 2009 and it learned from the opener with the push of a button. the app is easy to use and does push notification or email. needs subscription if you want to connect to google home or ifttt though.

  • from Richmond Hill, ON

excellent device

this is an excellent device, hooked it up without issue... operating the app on android system, works like charm! good to have it for security reason as it will pop you notification / email whenever the garage door is opened / closed.

Be aware - Greedy company

I purchased this fancy expensive garage door opener (remote) for one purpose, to have google assistance check, open and/or close it for me when I asked it to. They've said and promised integration will be available for a year only to have the feature available now and for a monthly or yearly subscription. Imagine decades of monthly subscription for a service that should be free. That is why I am giving it one star. The product works great as adverted, but not for what I needed for and was lead (by the company) to believe the service would be integrated. Now I regret buying it in the first place.

Monthly fees for integration

Save your money. This device is behind the technology curve. Although it's connected to the Internet, forget about making it smart or having some integrations with IFTTT, Alexa or Google without paying a monthly fee. Chamberlain won't hear his customers. This is the only home automation device I have in my house that charges a fee for an integration to a smart platform (i.e. wink, Smartthings, IFTTT, Alexa, Google home, etc).

Stay away!!

Out of the box problem linking to their app. Spent a week trying to get customer service help. Never resolved.

Works great

I have kids who, despite best intentions, often leave the garage door open. This lets me keep track of it. Setup was quick and easy. No connectivity issues. My only two complaints are: - Price. I got it at a decent sale price. Full price, for me would be tough to swallow for what you get. - The MyQ app only works with one account. With Nest, I can add my wife so she has her own account. With MyQ, it looks like we'll have to share an account. Not a biggie.

  • from Calgary, AB

Exactly what I wanted - works like a charm.

Installing the opener and sensor was a breeze, configuration was fairly straightforward, although I did run into a snag in the web portal, but I downloaded the app instead and did everything from there. Now the device alerts me after 1 minute (you can set other time thresholds) that we're having an unexpected garage give-away and then I can close the door from my app. It beeps and flashes like crazy so people know the door is about to close when closing it from the app, good extra safety feature. Nice price on sale too!

I was always worried that I left my garage door open but this has given me peace of mind. Setup was also easy, apart from pairing with my existing garage door opener....they mixed up the colours of the light in the instructions. Also saved me the cost of getting additional garage door openers/keypad for the outside wall or a car I leave outside sometimes. I can open my garage from any care and it is very important for security. No one can break the car window and open the garage. Highly recommended.

Prerequisites Required

I do not have this doorbell anymore. I was excited about it but we were not aware of the prerequisites required before making this purchase. To use this product, your existing door opener must have a LEARN BUTTON. Our door opener ended up not being compatible so I had to return it and purchase another model that was not dependent on the functionality of the door opener.

  • from Montreal, QC

This device is only compatible with itself

It's not compatible with anything else but MyQ, so having an app solely for each item in the house is not a particularly pleasing future. Not compatible with Smarthings, for instance, nor does it have a windows 10 app.

  • from Richmond Hill

This product is nothing more then a fancy garage door control. Manufacturer claim this product works with Wink hub. However Chamberlain forced wink to disable any automation with this product. So if you want to use any automated rules they will not work. No Ifttt no robots. This is nothing more then a fancy garage door remote replacement this can not automate anything. Again stay away this isn't a smart home device it's a useless online door status checker mostly. I will point out again Chamberlain actively prevents this product from being used in any home automation system. Stay away.

Works as advertised

Paper instructions minimal, but the setup is easy enough after you download the Android/iPhone app and start following the prompts. Great to let you know when the door is opened while away. I programmed my Homelink on my car on the same day as the MyQ Hub and encountered phantom door openings. I unplugged the MyQ Hub and left it over night. The door opened mysteriously overnight so it wasn't the Hub. I then deprogrammed the Homelink on my car in the morning, but low and behold it opened again an hour later. I ended up clearing all memorized door openers on the opener and reprogrammed everything from scratch including the remotes that came with the door opener. So far so good. I attributed this to a random coincidence where after programming my Car HomeLink and MyQ Hub, one of those codes matched up with someone in my area. I don't know how this works, but perhaps I had a neighbor on the same rolling code sequence... Go figure. Anyhow, just a word of advice in case anyone else runs into this. At least after troubleshooting and determining the MyQ was not at fault, I can depend on this now to let me know if the garage door is opened using the Alerts setup. Very handy and good to have it in the back pocket.

Works great

Been using for months now. It is pretty consistent in reporting on Android, but iPhone has given some trouble. For the most part, it works exactly as its supposed to. The app has been approved a few times over the last 6 months.

Works with certain Caveats

Yes it works with "most" garage door openers based upon any one of the two. One, the wireless door remote would work attached to a dead body that arose from the dead. As long as it's programmed. And the main unit works "best" with Chamberlain units. Knowing of course that Chamberlain owns the NA market (Chamberlain, Liftmaster, Craftsman, Clicker, etc). Once any two of these qualifiers are met their marketing machine takes over. Anyway nice concept. Just not straight up about compatibility and their proprietary coding. Gone GoGogate and all is well.

I have been using this device for about 1.5 years now. When it functions correctly, it's great. The main problem I have though is that it is not reliable. Sometimes it reports the door is open when it's closed and sometimes it reports it's closed when its actually open. The device has a neat alert feature to let you know if you left your door open for a user configurable amount of time. The problem is that you get that alert just as you pull into work and now you have to think "Did I see the door actually close this morning or did I forget to hit the button?" Now if the little sensor on the door is reporting wrong and the door IS closed, and then you go hit the button on the app thinking you're closing the door, the app gets upset and says "The Door cannot be controlled because of too many failed attempts. Please operate the door locally to reset and allow unattended operation." So did you just open the door now? haha I am considering installing an IP camera in my garage simply to verify the door position. This error seems to happen about one per quarter.

love it

under 1/2 hour had set up and working with Garage Door and iPhone, set up in house for hub first to internet. took me 1/2 hour because I had to open garage take vehicle out and close garage and get a ladder out to press the garage opener program button. I put the hub on wall vs ceiling by garage door opener, in event I have to reset wanted it in easy reach. The beeping when you close door from iPhone is a little annoying but understand it is a safety precaution. Have had for 3 weeks now and no wrong messages. One error on close as phone was switching from house wifi to data and message was lost. resent close request and down it went.

Works as it's advertised. I'm very happy with my purchase.

The main purpose of buying this product is to operate the garage remotely. Many times the garage door does not close. I am hesitant to operate the door remotely. Then what is the point to buy this device.

Chamberlin MyQ

Great product, easy to install. Does what I wanted it to do since i get deliveries to my home and can discuss with driver and open my door from anywhere. Also have Nest cameras in my garage so it works great together.

  • from Edmonton, AB

Great product

Extremely easy to set up and works exactly as advertised and expected. Would defiantly recommend this product.

  • from Campbell River, BC

Called the support line to help with install. They did a good job. Product does exactly as described. No complaints. Got it while it was on sale which was nice.

  • from Bowmanville, ON

Good to have but this is not I am looking for

Perfect for opening and closing garage remotely from anywhere. I would've given 5 stars if the door opens automatically once the car is near to the garage. No point to open garage with smart phone as you can do same with the garage remote. Overall perfect built and good buy. I would recommend this product.

  • from Vancouver, BC

Brings Peace of Mind

Love the peace of mind this system provides. Like others I forget from time to time if I have closed the garage door. A few years ago I had left the garage door open overnight and one of our bikes was stolen. Now, with this product, I can again sleep soundly knowing the contents of our garage are safe and secure.

  • from Burlington, ON

Installation was Easy Peasy....

Set up was too. Works as described. Great value for the money! Boxing Day Sale prompted the purchase.

  • from Brampton

Great product!

I bought this product on sale for price. It was the easiest thing to install if your a little tech savy. Installed it in ten minutes with everything set up. The push notifications work very well and let's you know when garage door is opened or closed. I bought it so I would not have to install a pin pad outside the garage door. Overall very happy with it.

  • from Owen Sound, ON

Decent Product

I bought this product when it was on sale and overall I've been happy with it. It was very easy to install and acts as advertised. I wish there was a way to automatically close the garage door (some form of a timer if the door is open after a certain hour) but recognize possible safety issues with this approach. I'm not sure that I would buy it at the listed price but it is a good product and has solved most of the problems I was having that led me to purchase it.

  • from Markham, ON

Mostly works

Used this product now for about 2 weeks and I love the rules based notification system. The garage opening feature works reliably, but for some reason, the closing feature is not as reliable. I sometimes have to try multiple times to get the garage door to close.

  • from Brampton, ON

Don't waste your money

I found supporting old routers and it is not compatible with my new CGN3 router, they did not mentioned and have a hard time to setup. Also they mentioned only certain types of wireless range extender will work.

  • from Niagara Falls

Works As Expected

The device was very easy to setup and took a total of about 15 minutes including programing it manually due to the type of garage door opening I have. It works as advertised and I have had no issues to date

Unreliable: Multiple False Warnings on my iPhone

The sensor that is attached to the garage door is so sensitive that it will detect any vibration of the door and send you false OPENED or CLOSED warning. Sometimes, the App on my iPhone says that the door is opened while it is in fact closed and vice-versa. On the first 2 occasions, I rushed home from work only to find that my garage door had not been opened... A strong wind, the blower of my gardener or someone banging his fist on the garage door is enough to trigger the sensor. I have received so many false warnings on my iPhone that I have decided to install a web cam inside my garage to check if the warnings are true or false. Earlier this year, I lost the connection from my iPhone and had to call the support line. I waited 55 minutes before talking to a technician from Chamberlain. We tried to reinstall the App on my iPhone, reset and rebooted the controller, nothing worked. At the end, he had to completely delete my account on Chamberlain's web site and restart the whole installation process from scratch. Really disappointed.

  • from Toronto, ON

Very useful

I always back up and forget to close garage door, so this product is great. Sometimes I run over the cat too....I hope they can make an app for that.

  • from Barrie, ON

I absolutely LOVE this, and wish I'd gotten one before! The peace of mind it gives makes it worth every penny!

  • from Cambridge, ON

Works Great with Two Garage Doors

Took a bit longer to install than required, as I need to do some manual trouble shooting. My garage door openers are only 4 years old but still needed time to set up. I have two garage doors so I bought the additional door sensor (also sold here) and it was so easy to program and set them both up. I would recommend this unit to someone that wants to know when their doors are open or closed.

  • from Ottawa

Problems programming it

Had problems programming it to my older mastercraft garage door opener. Had to manually program it. Instructions on how to do this are not clear (hold down garage pic in phone app). Also had issues getting the device recognized properly on the app. Working now but took 3 hours of trouble shooting.

Chamberlain MyQ Garage Door Opener

Great product. Performs seamlessly although beeping alert when door is closing is annoying. My review is 4 out 5 stars

  • from Toronto, ON

Excellent product

Easy to install 20 mins start to finish. Gives the ability to open and close the garage remotely if you need to let someone in without giving them a code or a remote. You'll always know that the garage door is closed.

  • from Burnaby, BC

Check Opener Compatability

Before installation, check the compatability of the controller with your garage door opener. I thought my unit was compatable until I installed it and it would only monitor my door but wouldn't open or close it. If I update my garage door openers I would buy it again. I also would have liked it if could monitor both doors but you need to buy another separate unit. I'm a handy women and found it extremely easy to install. Would recommend to friends.

  • from Airdrie, AB

good product

Easy to set up and works great, notifications are really handy

  • from Toronto, ON

easy to set up and install.

easy to set up and install. works like a charm.

  • from Winnipeg

Works as advertised

Installation was easy and simple and took less than an hour to do. It consisted of mounting 2 parts(controller hub and door sensor) and the mounting hardware was included in the box. Was compatible with my craftsman garage door opener I bought 5 years ago. It can be configured to send you alerts to your smartphone for when the door is open and closed. You have to be connected via mobile network or wifi to remotely control your garage door and to obtain status info(door open or closed). This actually saved me money as now I don't need to purchase additional garage door openers for each family member. The app was free to download and once the account was setup all you need to do is sign in on each phone and the settings will remain the same.

Garage Door Magic

Picked up this product last week and installed it this weekend in under 20 minutes. I am no extreme handyman - just a regular Joe, good with a few tools and that was more than enough for this project. App works fantastic, all 4 members of the household have downloaded the app and can now remotely open and close the garage door from anywhere. No more worries about leaving the garage door open. Thanks Chamberlain.
