Great Disappointment!

Worked as expected for the first few weeks then whenever more than 1 device was using it, all devices would hang. Rebooting the router would help for less than an hour. Its getting progressively worse as time goes on and I'm beyond the time for returning it. Not at all what I expected from this manufacturer! Would not recommend it.

  • from Scarborough, ON

best solution if you don't want to pay big bucks

I'm surprsied how much this router improved my wifi. All my devices run faster and more range.

  • from Ottawa, On

Good for the price- Good Wifi

Upgraded my Dads wifi rooter to this and it works pretty good. He is able to get good signal mostly everywhere in the house. I might get him a range extender to get a better signal in the back yard. Happy customer

  • from Ontario.

Pretty good

Got for the cottage and could even get signal on the patio for our camera. NIce not to have to wire

  • from Milton, ON

Solid for the price.

product not good

I bought this router to improve the Wi-Fi in my house on top of the Rogers router. This unit was worst than the Rogers router. I returned it the next day

  • from Rosemere

Not so good

I bought it to get better coverage, but my old router is still better. Signal is very weak even 5 feet from the router. I might return it before the 30 days expire.

  • from Stoney Point , ON

Great deal on a great product

Works great. Had problems with my original router signal strength. Now our wifi extends to our detached garage

  • from Winnipeg, MB

Don't buy AC class routers with 100M cabled ports

I was shocked to find that this router has 100 Mbit switch and wan ports making the cables a huge bottle neck. It might be fine if all you want to do is browse using slower broadband; Game steaming or file transfers are slow.

Goes in and out

I've called their tech support many times, as well as Rogers. We originally bought this router because the one that Rogers provided would drop all of our Android 6 devices. With the Dlink, the Androids are fine, but 1-2 times a day, we have to reboot the modem and the router because everything cuts out. I'd be willing to chalk this up to Rogers providing faulty service - they really are the worst - except that most of the time we can't get to the router setup page without rebooting either, which suggests to me that the router is at least part of the problem. However, their telephone tech support had this idea that if I unplugged the ethernet cable going into the router and plugged it into the computer, that if I didn't get Internet without rebooting that it must be the router and wouldn't hear about any kind of exchange until I could prove it wasn't a Rogers issue. (I have replaced about 5 Rogers modem/routers). Also, the signal strength isn't great. We have 2 floors and a basement, and the 2nd floor signal doesn't make it to the basement. My old dLink wireless g had no trouble reaching the basement.

  • from Kelowna

No Fi

As others have stated. This product has terrible range. Drops the signal, requires constant reboots. And will not even connect to some devices like my Roku. Old router it replaced is going back into service

fix my Wifi issues

works well as an upgrade on Shaw

  • from Toronto

Terrible product

Does not connect consistently in corners of a home. garbage range pretty much, doesnt work properly at all on some devices.....ive owned this router for about 6 months and its given me too much frustration. ps3 wont connect most of the time.. windows 8.1 laptop wontpick up the signal at all for some reason. I also owned a dlink adapter in the past whcih wasnt anything to write about either. Avoiding Dlink lets see if a linksys/tplink/asus router or something would do the job.

  • from London, ON

Only 2 Weeks

Bought this to improve my previous wifi system. Setup was smooth. Worked fantastic..................................................................for 2 weeks. Wifi crapped out yesterday. Couldn't figure out why my android started to freeze up. Checked my speed with my laptop on wifi and there I was at break-neck speed of .76mg. WOW!!!!! I'm not about to have to do resets every other day. If I wanted to do that I would have kept my 2wire crap setup. I was impressed. However not at all now unless I want to run cat5 throughout my home. And there is absolutely no support on this thing.

  • from Mississauga, ON

great results versus my bell router

I was having some range issues with my Bell router that was over 3 years old. I didn't want to rent from Bell so I tried this out instead. Overall I'm happy and the price was very good.

  • from Belmont, ON

NOT what the box makes it out to be. NOT EXTREME RANGE :(

Setup is SUPER simple. Interface is super simple love how you can make devices priority with ease. Bought this router thinking that I could get more wireless range to my android box on the other side of my small 2 bedroom house. Was very wrong. Packed away my 8 year old Router (D-link DIR-615) only to get it back out because my videos would not even begin to load or do a search. Now I can at least get a connection and be patient I am not a pro at Networking but have set up many routers in my time as well as tweaked them out for optimal performance. Take my advice. Will be either returning it or using my old router as a extender/repeater along with it.

  • from London, ON

Don't Buy This Router

I bought this router to replace my 3 year old netgear router. I was expecting the extended range of the router to send a strong signal through my house. While at times the router has a strong signal. It is very inconsistent. Most the time the internet access is either cut off or extremely week. Their parental controls are also bogus. You have to specify each site you don't want access to. My current netgear router actually has parental controls. I will be returning this router, and I am through with D-link. Say yourself the hassle and invest in a router that actually works. I might update my review when I find a good router for a decent price.

  • from Hamilton, ON

Works well so far

I purchased this router to help with an overflow problem we were having. And it seems to be working great. I love the admin controls.

  • from Burnaby, BC

Good prouct

Good product but I had problem in setting this up and found out someone hacked into my system because I didn't change the "admin" password.

  • from Bobcaygeon, ON

Product Good, Service Terrible

Bought this unit and so far so good, easy to hook up and lots of changeable settings. Went on sale 30 days later and Best-buy would not honor sale price. Last time I buy from this seller!

  • from Richmond Hill, ON

Extremely slow WIFI speed!

lower end product with with very disappointed performent

  • from Brampton, ON

Thinking this product would make my WiFi better and streaming faster. WRONG, it is trash, the basic router you get with rogers is better. I am returning and getting a CISCO because this is horrible. DO NOT WASTE MONEY AND BUY THIS PRODUCT.

  • from Cantley

I bought this router because it was supose to be better than the Videotron one...it is not...I have a 2 storey house 2400SF On the first floor it was better by 1000mps But on the second floor it drop down to 15 000mps instead of 30 000 mps that I have before with the original videotron router...save your money and time...not worth the money...does not much of a difference to buy one.because I was loosing to much mps on the second floor I had to plug back the videotron router...and for does who uses a tv box like little MI MX this router was slower that the videotron one..I know we're to install a router and I did numerous speed tests before...during...and after. .my numbers listed above a very close to the average.

  • from Milton, ON

AC12oo Dual Band Router

Excellent value ; meets its spec. Easy to install since encryption is automatic. Signal strength strong.

  • from Vancouver, BC

Horrible Customer Support

Do not buy this. After following the set up instructions step by step the router would not connect. As there was no technical support number anywhere in the manual I had to google the number from my phone. They then stated they would CHARGE me to provide me with any help. Seriously. Horrible product, horrible customer support. Never again will I buy anything from DLink.

  • from Calgary, AB

Runs all of our devices at high rates of speed both up and down. Easy setup great price but if you use a slow Mbps down from your provider ie shaw Internet 50 or 15 you should upgrade to a service to 150 Mbps or better to truly get the full potential of the router. Also my wifi and Lan camras work better and streaming video of our camras remote is now seamless. If you want the best wifi Mbps use a wifi analyzer and find the clearest channels and use it or you will never reach full 300/800 Mbps. On sale or not if you use the internet you should invest in this.

  • from Cambridge, ON

It does the job. I was looking for something that supports multicast. I have Chromecast and an Android box and my Gateway from Rogers does not support either. Don't get me started on that. I'm sure they do that on purpose. This router is configurable enough that advanced users can get their use out of it, and simple enough to set up that first time users will be up and running in no time. I did have to make one change in order for my Roger's service to work properly however. Under the advanced network settings, the value for MTU is set by default to 1500. If you are using this device and experience a lag in internet performance, such as websites taking forever to load or email not sending, things of that nature, change the value to 1492. Once you reboot your gateway and router, everything will work perfectly. For the price you pay, this is a very good device. Good range, easy set-up, except for that one step.

Extremely slow WIFI speed!

Living in a WIFI crowded place. Thought to buy this "high-gain" wifi router to improve WIFI speed after had enough with Bell original WIFI router. It turned out WIFI speed is 20% slower than Bell @ 2.4GHZ and similar speed to Bell 5GHZ. Don't buy. Returning it tomorrow!

  • from Ontario

Good router for the price

Works just fine. Does what an average wireless router should do. Make sure it's placed in an open environment and there should be no troubles. Works great streaming with phones and tablets. It also works 80ft into my backyard.

  • from Stoney Creek, ON

It works fine

We got this router because I got a Samsung S7 and it wouldn't connect with our old one. It works fine - we don't notice much of a difference between this one and our previous one which was about 4 years old. I bought this because it was mid price and came with fairly good reviews - so far so good.

NO GIGABIT ETHERNET... Read below for why this may/may not be necessary

Though the wireless speeds are decent (in its price range), your bottleneck in this specific device is going to be your hard-line connection. Most likely not to your internet speed (unless you pay lots for your plan), but transfers between other devices. With gigabit ethernet connections, you can transfer at virtually the maximum write speed of the receiving computer's hard drive. That can work out to roughly 30 MBps (ie. 240 Mbps, notice the capital/lowercase B). But in the case of this drive, a single ethernet connection is limited to a theoretical maximum of 100 Mbps which is 12.5MB/s. That's the speed of writing to a decent flash drive these days. This could theoretically be a bottleneck to your internet speed in the coming years too... although I have my doubts many will be affected by this. I am writing this review specifically because I believe this product takes advantage of normal consumer knowledge and oversight. It advertises itself as a high-performance router, but gigabit ethernet is a very standard thing in this price range... shame on you, D-Link. If you want transfers between computers quickly, this isn't the router for you. If you use one computer or NAS as storage and transfer often between, this isn't the router for you. If range is your only real concern, this could be a very beneficial router in its price range.

Excellent Router!

Performance: I noticed a significant speed difference coming form a G router. Therefore, I was very satisfied with the speeds I was receiving. The household has three laptops, three cell phones, an iPod and a TV and the router is handling it without missing a beat. Ease of Install: easiest router installation ever. Basically just plugged it in and used the provided password. It was ready to go out of the box! Value: I took a star off mainly because even though it was on sale at the time of purchase, they lowered the price more so after a week and a half! Overall: I had a very good experience with this product. I would recommend it!

  • from Georgetown, ON

great price and great performance

I ungraded my internet with Roger Cable and really didn't see a change. My router was about 3 years old. I don't use many wired connections but was looking for improved Wifi speeds. I was really impressed after I installed this one. Overall everything over the net just runs faster. glad I bought this model.

  • from Brampton, ON

Not worth buying

Bought this unit today and returning tommorrow. Biggest problem was i used parental control to block internet to connected devices that includes my 1 laptop and childrens Ipads. It worked and blocked internet access at configured time but here is the challenge. If you need Internet access temporarily or say temporarily want to unblock a device you are out of luck. I connected the Router via ethernet cable to my laptop to get into Admin interface but cannot since the laptop is also in the network block list. I dont understand why i cannot log in to admin interface if connected to router via ethernet cable. Chat with Customer service who is far from understanding the issue forget about resolving it.

D-Link used to be great Gear, but THIS is a POS

Got this to replace my TP-Link TL-WR1043ND that started dying after 4+ years of yeoman service. This piece of scrap plastic is going back today for a refund, and I'm ordering ANOTHER TP-WR1043 (it says a lot about an item that is still in production after six-plus years and still gets good customer reviews...). Chose the DIR-822 based on past D-Link experience, the supposed extended range. "Shoulda knowed ", as they say -- if it sounds too good to be true, it likely is. Even breaking down data-wise, the radio in my old WR1043 STILL has almost twice the range of this unit! But that's a minor disappointment compared to the actual performance, which is ABYSMAL. Wired links are slow, but almost tolerable. Wireless is a JOKE -- not only shorter range than expected, but through-put is horrible, even with the receiver just a few feet away -- that is, if it even stays connected long enough to get measurable data. In short, given its poor performance, this unit is very poor value, even at the on-sale price I paid. NOT RECOMMENDED

Recommend for ease of install

It takes only a few seconds to connect the internet modem and router.

I search around and looked at other reviews. I'm glad I bought this one. The price is very good.

  • from Vancouver, BC

Good for the Price

This is a great AC router for the boxing day price. This router solves several problems that I currently have with just the Shaw router with WiFi. First problem is the extended Wifi reach that extends the new AC wifi to my room to allow me to watch netflix on my Apple TV. The second problem or perhaps a pro is the AC aspect of this router that gives a few extra MB/s boost; up to 11MB/s wifi speed versus 7 or 8MB/s that I got with N. However, as with all products there is a caveat and that is to migrate everyone on the old router to the new and create a bridge from the old modem, or simply let everything co-exist on two separate routers. I chose the latter but it makes it difficult to figure which network a device may be on. For example I cannot stream to my Apple TV until I turn on Wifi on my Mac Mini since the Apple TV is wifi only. Great cheap product, does AC. Great buy.

  • from Vancouver, BC

Good performance for good price

Bought this when it was on sale which is good for the price. Setting up is quite easy just like any other routers. However, given the numbers of antennas, the range is not as impressive as other routers. However, no complain

  • from Montreal,Qc

Excellent performance for 45$

I bought this router on Boxing Day special for [price].i tested tp-link router c5,c7,c9.these routers are cutting of the speeds in half .thats mean I have the speed of 20Mbps.when any 1 device working at the same time I tested speed.the speed limite showed me at 9.69 or 10 Mbps.specielly I had the issue with archer c9.it was always disconnecting the linternet line.but archer c5 is better than other 2 routers.but this router DIR 822 is Much much excellent performance.i am so happy with this router.i recommend for everyone.verry good range of wifi.every where in my home. first floor to basement and around the back yard up to the next street around more than 50 meters.also I tested DIR859.this router is also awesome.I think d- link routers are better than any others routers.

Excellent performance for a very good price. You don't get that always. 100% Recommended.

  • from Langley, BC

Great, surprised by the good coverage

Didn't expect such good range and speed from the budget router. Highly recommended for any dual band basic setup.

  • from Edmonton

Our wireless improved very good. Recommend this devise to who does not have a good wifi connection on his/her home :) 100% recommend it!

  • from Brampton, ON

Good if you need a router to extend range

The router does not provide the promised performance and instead cuts the speeds you pay for in half. Even through a WIRED connection... I would not recommend if you need good performance but if all you need is an extender, this works.

Bought this on Boxing day, router that came with Telus was horrible. Installed this router and noticed a massive difference, have internet all over the house, love it 5*
