Good Product but Not Ideal for Opposite ends in the House, just for closeby desired wired connections

If your modem is on the other side and you want internet downstairs on the opposite end, the AV500 isn't the best device. If the distance from modem to the desired internet location is greater than 10 meters then get the AV2000 not the AV500.

Just what I was hoping for

Wanted to create a wired connection to my Ps4 on the top floor of my home as the wireless speed it was receiving was in and out do to my router being on the main floor. Set up in less than five minutes and now i get speeds equal to myself plugging my ps4 directly into the router.

  • from Edmonton, AB

Definitely worth the purchase

These Powerline Adapters are worth the purchase because they helped me extend a direct connection to my WiFi modem to another area of my house where i have another wifi router setup to extend my WiFi networks and they are 100% reliable.

  • from Toronto, ON

Got the internet speed back. Thanks

I am very happy with this product.

Great Product!

I bought these little guys to help my buffering issues while streaming video using my Android TV Boxes. My internet package allows for 50 mbps download speed, but with my wifi connection, I was only getting 25-30 mbps at best. After taking 2 minutes to setup these powerline adapters, I was getting max speeds instantly. I've since bought 2 more units for elsewhere in the house and the results are just as good. It's been about 2 weeks since I've owned them, and I couldn't be happier. A faaaaaaar cheapier (and easier) solution than re-wiring your house with ethernet cables. Disclaimer: My house is relatively new (7 yrs old), so I can't tell you if this would work just as well in an older home with different electrical wiring.

  • from Welland, ON

Decent...when it works.

Speeds are decent when it works, but it constantly loses connection. Sometimes it re-establishes itself after a few minutes, sometimes I have to restart my computer.

  • from Ottawa, ON

Worked Perfectly

Plugged it in at the end of a 125' long powerline run underground (TECK Cable) and it worked perfectly ... green lights all around.

  • from Innisfil, ON

Works great. Easy to setup!

Bought this as my son was complaining about lag while playing COD on his Xbox One. Plugged in both adapters and cable and everything was up and connected within about 2 minutes from start to finish. Speed seems great with no lag! Distance wise I am going form the main floor router to his room upstairs and there doesn't seem to be any issue whatsoever. Great product and in fact I am going to buy another set of adapters for my other kids' rooms.

  • from Kirkland, QC

Works great

I bought this item, and it maxed out my wifi connection. It worked as intended, however, I'm only 2 rooms away from my modem and my 25 dollar wifi card was also maxing out my wifi connection. I didn't need this is in the end and returned it. If you do struggle with connection because you are too far from your modem, such as in the basement, I can definitely recommend buying this though.

  • from Barrie, ON

Poor test results

Purchased the device to improve a PS3 internet connection, which was located in the basement. I tested the unit after installation. I had all green lights on the unit displaying the best connection. Using a laptop I conducted a speed test using wifi. The results were 18 ping 21 mbs download 10 mbs upload. Connected ethernet cable using powerline av500 and results were 31 ping 1.58 mbs downlaod and 1,2 mbs upload. Then I conducted the same test using laptop connected directly to modem/router combo. The results were 12 ping 38 mbs download and 10 mbs upload. In defence of the product. The connections likely vary depending on the household circuits. If I had been on the same circuit the results may have been better.

Works great

got tired of how my Wi-Fi extender still caused huge lag issues in playing online so I bought this based on what friends told me and it works perfect. Strong connection with no lagging. No issues

Not getting full speed

Purchased this after doing research online for best alternative other than wifi due to I'm getting too much interference in my area. My PC only has a 2.4Ghz adapter and I'm debating between this or getting a 5Ghz adapter, both are same price. I chose this powerline adapter instead of the 5Ghz wireless at first because I want to be able to connect a switch for multiple devices later on. The item is super easy to connect right out of the box. All I had to do was connect one adapter to my router and the other to my PC and it work in less than 3 minutes set up. However I'm getting only 16-20mbs on my 55mbs bandwidth. I removed the device and I connect my PC directly into router and I'm getting 55mbs again. The router and the PC is not that far part, only across the hall. I didn't want to run wire across the hall so I bought this. My house is a 2 storey newer home fully finished so running cat5 wires is not easy. I did speed test on wifi 2.4ghz I'm getting 17-27mbs, I bought the 5ghz wireless and I can go anywhere in the house and I'm getting 55mbs. So this powerline is worse than my 2.4ghz and 5ghz wireless. I did plug both the adapters on both ends into the wall outlet directly not through power bar. I made there isn't an big appliances near by that could cause interference.

connected 2 rooms apart, have good connectivity according to LED lights yet get 500kbps speed (horrible, unusable). Connect a LAN cable direct and works perfectly.

  • from Kitchener, ON

Works, but emits High-Pitched Noise

We used this to connect our Media PC to our router 2 floors up; suffered with spotty WiFi for years before buying this. Speed is great (35 MBps at the modem/router PC, ~20 via the PowerLine adapter in the basement, but the units emit a high-pitch whine/squeal noise that can be heard while sitting 5m away. I don't know if it's a faulty unit or what (since it does work) but this noise is going to drive me bonkers.

  • from Guelph, ON

Works great

I discovered this solution for my smart tv in the basement. Now Netflix streams great and saved me time not having to run a cable directly fro other part of my home. Love this thing so far.

  • from Sudbury, ON

Absolutely great

I recently moved my computer to a part of the basement with no wired access to my router. I don't like to game using a wireless adapter so I bought this kit. It works absolutely great. I didn't notice any difference between being plugged in directly into my router and this unit. Super easy to setup as well. Took me 5 minutes. Buy it you won't regret it.

D-Link PowerLine AV500 works great

Could not get our Smart TV to connect to the internet. Running an Ethernet cable from the router to the TV was not an option. The salesman suggested the D-Link AV500 rather than trying a different router. I was skeptical but it worked great right out of the box. I am very happy with this product.

  • from Cambridge, ON

Very pleased!

Delighted with our vastly improved Skype video quality. Can now see the sweet faces of our grandsons, one in Toronto , one in Africa. Thanks to the Geek Squad tech who suggested it!

Easy & effective

I had initially tried a D-link wifi range extender, but was unable to set it up with my router. Decided to go with the powerline, and it worked like a charm on the first attempt. Was very easy to set up and provides sufficient data speed for streaming netflix on my computer.

  • from Calgary, AB

Does the job

Had huge trouble getting wifi into our basements (even with the D-link extender), but this starter set fixed it for us!!

  • from Happy Valley, NL

Works but....

Not even close to what speed is rated for. And I don't think its a router issue because I have a dlink router. But I would give it 5 stars for ease of setup though. And only 2 stars for touted speed rating. Otherwise it works as simply plugging in your router and laptop/desktop.

  • from Denmark

Drops connection every day

Does not work for us. I loose inet connection every day on this (The wireless router we have works fine, this dont)

  • from Happy Valley, NL

Seems adaquate

But it was rated for data transmission of upto 500mb and although it works and very very easy set-up. I am only getting 3-5mb, oh well at least i know have a secure networking instead of potentially dangerous wifi.

  • from Toronto, ON

Works but there is a huge lag

I had it and used very well for internet browsing from another room on my apartment. Once a tried to use it for streaming it had a lag. I had to get better device to resolve the problem.

  • from Pickering, ON

Excellent product

Excellent product. I bought it on sale and the set up took 2 minutes. I used it to get my VOIP phone adapter to connect to the main line do that I could use the existing phone lines in the house to connect other regular phone devices. Works 100% of the time, Will probably by another set as my smart TV as it loses wireless signals. Will definitely recommend this product.

  • from Mississauga, ON

Beautifully Simple.

Awesome point-to-point solution. Truly plug and play, no software or real setup required. I use it in an old apartment building with no problem, across two floors and different breakers. Great way to work around dead zones or avoid wires. I recommend this to everyone.

  • from Calgary, AB

Works like it says it does

Installation couldn't have been simpler. Plug and play. My speed is now fast and consistent even in an older building.

  • from Mississauga

Pretty Good for $40

I wasn't expecting much and the tech help at bestbuy said to expect a 40% drop in speed compared to what was advertised. After testing a read/write speed I was getting about 30-37Mbps (read speed from 1 Mac to another Mac). I tried both direct to the wall and through a surge protector. No difference. I have this connected to an integrated stereo receiver (Marantz NR1604) so good enough for AirPlay. I don't think I would recommend this if you are needing to move large amounts of data from one computer to another. But for streaming internet videos and surfing it's great. I was going to cut holes through the floor/walls but my wife put a stop to that pretty fast. Depending on your needs...its a good device. Just don't expect blazing speeds.

  • from Richmond, BC

Exactly as it's says on the box. Plug one into your router, plug the other in where you want the internet and bingo. Best product I've bought in years. I have one at the complete opposite end of my house from the modem (and it's on another floor). Currently it's plugged into my Xbox and there's no lag with gaming or any problems streaming Netflix. I'm ordering another one now...

D-Link AV500 Internet over Powerline

Had problems with WiFi hanging up during streaming of 3D movies from a PC to my wireless Blu-ray player. Netflix 3D would often hang too. It got so bad I was transferring movies to a memory stick to plug into my player so I could watch them. My Blu-ray WiFi signal was about 50% and the PC 90%. After installing these units solely between the router and Blu-ray my PC streaming is now functions as it should. It also allowed Netflix 3D to function properly through the player. Best 50 bucks I spent on any geek product, other than unblockus.com. LOL

Bad product

I own previous version of this product ,dhp 306 av and I decided to upgrade it to the recent version . What a mistake . 1. Disconnects . It was connected to smart TV . Once in a week TV lost network connection . Taking powerline adapter out from wall socket , put it back and we are good for another week or so . Never ever had this problem with 306av . 2. I decided to try to update the firmware to try to solve the disconnects. Wasted 2 days of my time . Tried different combinations of MS Windows ( XP clean , XPSP3 , Win8.1 ) . The software which should update the firmware crashes every time it connects to adapters . What an irony . 3. I even sent an email to dlink support with this problem( firmware update ). Guess what , 3 week and counting - no answer whatsoever. So much for good support . Will return it after the holidays .

  • from Barrie, ON

Very impressed

Worked immediately after plugging in, double the data rates compared with WiFi in remote corner of the house, and seemingly immune to interference from the microwave (as was the previous WiFi connection). Recommended.

  • from Dartmouth

Very impressed! Quick and fast setup

I don't normally write a review unless I'm totally not satisfied or very impressed. For this product I was very impressed with how easy and quick it was to have my network extended. I wanted to have a wireless network in our outdoor garage and was very tempted to run a network cable until I seen these. I read up on them and sounded like it would be an easy setup. For setup I just plugged one unit into the wall in the house, plugged in the short network cable that was supplied into the router and left it. I did not need to sync the devices, just plugged it in. I then went out to the garage, plugged the second device in and ran the network cable to a spare wifi router and without doing anything else I had Internet via wifi and ran a speediest which I was getting top speeds that I would get inside the house. Simple setup with no configuration. Just plug it in and walk away. Great product!

Chapeau.

My modem is upstaris, with a Denon receiver and AApple TV on the main floor. Denon offers RadioDenon service, but the connection dropped regularly, especially when kids were home using wireless bandwith. Apple TV doanload times for movies were excruciatingly frustrating. I installed this starter kit in 5 minutes. My connection to Denonradio is solid. And Apple TV download times are down to acceptable (seconds) levels. Bravo DLink.

D-Link Power Adapter

Didn't work for us. When activated, the interference the Power adapter created made other computers with wireless mouse/keyboard useless.

10x Faster Internet Connection, at least

Far too long have I been stressed out and annoyed at slow internet speeds. So easy to install. Plug in, press button, good to go. Such an innovative invention... Say goodbye to WiFi connections... It's not worth your money to pay an internet provider company each month for internet speeds you're not even taking advantage of. So much stress relieved once I looked at the internet speeds I was finally getting...

  • from Mississauga, ON

Excellent Item

Can't believe how easy this was. Plugged it in at the router then took the other unit to the basement. Plugged it in and as soon as I turned on the TV the system was ready to update! It recommends not plugging it in to a power bar, but I have them both powered this way and it works amazing.

  • from London, ON

Button timing picky; Otherwise great

Connection works great. Fast, reliable, handles multiple "remote" devices via switch/router if desired. Fantastic solution when running a cable is not an option. Way better than wireless (in speed and reliability). Out-of-box works immediately, but not secure. To secure the line, you need to press the button for two seconds on each unit. The timing for this is very picky. Don't give up! It really is around two seconds. Keep trying until you get the continuously flashing light. Then go to the other unit(s) and do the same thing within two minutes. Once complete, all will be good, no need to repeat as this is a one-time operation (unless adding more units later). Secure the line before connecting any devices, or you may have to reset those devices afterwards for them to communicate properly.

d-link av500

Worked great, right out of the box. And far superior to my proprietary Samsung wi-fi usb stick. Would definitely recommend to others.

No more Wi-Fi dropouts

Purchased this kit after suffering from Wi-Fi dropouts. Needless to say, this solved the problem. I now get the speeds that I'm paying for. Excellent product... I would highly recommend this to anyone having the same issue. As a bonus, you don't have to drill any holes through walls or floors, to run cables to your devices, because it uses your existing electrical wiring, to operate. I may purchase another kit and place these units in other rooms. Two thumbs up!

Solved our wi-fi problems

Recently I installed the D-Link DHP309AV kit, DHP-w310AV product and the DAP-1320 extender around my house. I live in a large house, with a carriage house…and our Linksys wi-fi signal would not reach any our rear patio nor our upstairs, nor could I get wi-fi in the carriage house. We installed the D-Link Powerline products around the perimeter of the house, and added the DAP-1320 extender to the carriage house….and we now are getting excellent wi-fi no matter where we are around the house.

D-Link PowerLine - Starter Kit

I bought the starter kit for the D-Link Powerline that comes with Mini Adapters and connect through Ethernet. Originally I was using wireless router and could not get a good signal so I bought an Extender and still could not optimize my internet. Someone at bestbuy suggested that I try the D-Link PowerLine Adapter. This works great, it was simple to set up, as it says on the box it is "Plug and Play". My internet now works great and has tripled in speed because I now get no interference. If you decide to purchase the D-Link Power Line you would quite happy with the performance of these nifty things BUT you might want to invest into buy 2 Ethernet cords as the cords they come with most likely wont reach from your powerline to your computer/router.

  • from Aurora, ON

Works with Magicjack Plus

I originally purchased the kit to use with a Magicjack Plus. I wanted to situate the Magicjack and telephone other than in my upstairs office next to the router. Installation, one in my office near the router and the other in another room of the house, was simple and the Magicjack and telephone were up and running in another room in less than 10 minutes. I liked the kit so much I went and bought another. I used one adapter for a basement office computer. Bell is my ISP and they advertise a download speed of 6Mbps. I am getting close to this on my upstairs office computer connected directly to the router with Ethernet. The basement office computer was getting almost 2 Mbps download on wifi. After installing the powerline adapter the upload and download speed on the basement office computer compared closely to the upstairs office computer. I installed another powerline adapter on my PS3, however; the difference in download and upload speed was negligible between wifi and Ethernet with the adapter. The PS3 is situated very close to the PS3 and it remains wifi. I installed the last adapter on my Internet radio and it never cuts out as it did on wifi. I am very pleased with the kits. My only complaint would be the length of the Ethernet cables in the kit, 3 feet, not nearly long enough for my applications.

  • from Mississauga, ON

Works Great

I kept having wireless connection issues and this powerline kit solved my problem. I get no more disconnects and on average it is two to three times faster than my wifi connection. The setup could not have be easier either, I'm very happy with this product.

  • from De Winton, AB

Performed as Advertised

Signal from rural fixed wireless antenna terminates in detached garage about 10 meters from main residence. (Used to) have a Cisco wireless router in garage resulting in some parts of house with adequate coverage and some parts with poor or no coverage. The cable from the outside antenna now plugs directly into the 309 adapter which is plugged into a 110v outlet in garage. Other adapter is plugged into an outlet beside main circuit breaker panel in house with a short Cat 5 connecting it to the router. Signal through garage sub panel and house main breaker panel with no detectable loss. Setup extremely easy. Over all very pleased.

  • from Toronto, ON

great product

using this for a wired connection between my tv in the living room to office where my server is. Average around 50 mbps which is sufficient for media streaming in HD. I experience no lag/frame skips (which I used to have when using wireless). Never experienced any network connection loss. This is a fantastic device and great alternative from network wiring room to room.

  • from Calgary, AB

Good for infills - houses have great wiring.

Have many devices at home, whole house is wired but too much wifi congestion with neighbours etc. Bought 2 packs so 4 plugs. One is used to connect to an ethernet port which is hooked into my LAN. One connects an IP security camera, the other a multifunction printer / scanner. I live in an 2400SQ.F. above grade infill, three developed stories, detached garage. Every single power outlet shows green "optimal". The security cam is responsive unlike when it was on wifi (within 5 bar access to access point). Printer works without a hitch. Next step in another IP security cam in the living room then another in the garage. Heck I might even hook the Apple TVs up if I buy a few more.
