I reviewed this antenna a while ago and I wanted to update my review. The antenna performed very poorly so I decided to open it up. Inside are two more aluminum elements in addiction to the two you see on the outside. They were not even hooked up! The two very thin and useless wires were there but not hooked up. Even if they were they are too thin to carry much, if any, signal to the TV. I would have returned it had I known it was such poor quality and workmanship.
This antenna does really well with receiving channels, but has a very big weakness in UV Protection if it is mounted outside. It will last maybe for one season and it will shatter into many little pieces with a just a bit of wind. I have put about 10 of these up for some of my customers in my community and every last one of them has shattered into tiny little piece's. It is a great attic antenna where the sun can not degrade it. If you want an outdoor antenna this is NOT the one.
Dumped the cable so bought this for the local channels. Get CBC, CTV and Global. Mounted outside. All channels crystal clear. Couldn't get any thing with rabbit ears. Very happy with product. Only three channels but we are in PEI, not Toronto or Buffalo where I understand you can get a dozen or more. Will never go back to cable.
An active antenna (one that uses an amplifier to boost the gain) does not work well in urban location because of reflections, However in a rural setting at moderate distances from the transmitters it can work very well. The VHF section is only a folded dipole so it has little diriectivity. The UHF section has four elements and is fairly directional.
I use this antenna to drive a distribution n my house so I cannot use a rotator. In this application it is perfect for my area giving clear steady pictures on 19 channels.
This is my second Digiwave. The first was destroyed by hail because of the thin plastic cover which houses the antennas and amplifier. I built a hail cover mounted over the top of the unit to prevent this from happening again.
I am perfectly satisfied with this antenna.
Poorly made. Instructions in broken English. When I screwed in the video cable to the antenna I felt the plastic give way and break inside. Also, it gets only the same channels I get with the short rabbit ears. I live in Vancouver and it's a waste of money in my view
this antenna is good quality, and easy to install and have high db signal, nothing wrong with this product, depend the local you are. I recomended, is very good.
I decided to cut the cable and bought this one on recommendation of my cousin who lives in Scarborough and claims he got about 30+ channels from it. I live in Markham.
I first tried the old "V"-shaped extension antenna that came with my old analog TV years ago. I set it up on top of the TV (digital) indoors with big south/southeast facing windows. I got 11 channels.
Then I tried this one. After trying out different orientation with the antenna the most I got was14 channels. Hmmm, not a whole lot of improvement. So I installed this antenna in the attic, readjusting the orientation for best reception. Now I got 20 channels max, but some of them come and go, even with the amplifier on.
Well, 20 is better than 11, but nowhere near 30.
I bought it on sale with free shipping, great price and quality. I mounted it on a support near the window at the second floor facing south, I am receiving around 28 channels with some doubles . Easy to install, I put the TV on antenna settings to automatically search channels. I am very pleased.
Not for everyone, as it is a bit on the "large" size and others, like the Mohu Leaf, are smaller-factor... but I get great reception in the Toronto/GTA area, and I like the option of putting it outside (currently inside near a window) if I move to another location.
