Seize the day in 4K

  • The HERO5 Black sets you up for on-the-fly professional productions, capturing video in 4K30, 2.7K60, 1440p80, 1080p120, 960p120, and 720p240 fps. Play back that time you biked down the Portuguese Serra da Estrela mountains, or went white-water rafting in Banff, and relive the thrill in jaw-dropping 4K.
  • The HERO5 has a 12MP image sensor to take high-quality still images, including RAW photo capture. Burst mode takes up to 30 photos in rapid succession to help you capture every detail of a friend surfing through a barrel or dominating a cliff jump, while time lapse mode takes photos at set intervals between 0.5-60 seconds for short, shareable, and always memorable videos.
  • A 2-inch touch display lets you preview and play back your shots, change settings, and trim your footage, right there on site, so you can ensure you didn't miss a beat.
  • Advanced video stabilization ensures all your footage -- from the handles of your BMX bike or mounted to your helmet as you zoom down the ski slopes-- is captured in stunningly smooth detail.
  • Protune gives you manual control over colour, ISO limit, exposure, and more so you can experiment and watch your creativity soar to new heights.
  • Auto image rotation automatically adjusts capture orientation to right-side up when the camera is inverted, ideal for when you're ziplining upside down.
  • Enhanced Auto Low Light automatically adjusts frame rates for optimal low-light performance. Plus, Night Photo and Night Lapse mode let you customize your exposure settings. Enjoy stunning footage of the festival of lights and evenings camping by the lake.
  • Your HERO5 Black has a rugged design and is protected to depths of 10m without housing. Safe whether you're kayaking down rapids or paddle boarding across a lagoon in Indonesia.

Share the adventure

  • Built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth let you connect your HERO5 Black to your smart device through the GoPro App. Enjoy easy access to all camera modes and settings, control the camera remotely, and make it a snap to view and share your content all from your smart device.
  • HERO5 Black automatically uploads footage to your GoPro Plus cloud account to provide easy access on your phone. Then with Quik, the GoPro editing app, you can create amazing videos worth sharing with friends, family, and on YouTube.

Technology that excites

  • GPS Location Capture pinpoints and makes a record of wherever the adventure takes you. So when you finally get around to creating a montage of your trip, the HERO5 will remember all the great places you've seen.
  • Voice control lets you enjoy hands-free control of your GoPro using simple voice commands so you don't have to drop your oars, take your hands off the handlebars, or pause whatever you're doing to press record.
  • Simple one-button control lets you spend less time fiddling with your camera and more time having fun. A single press of the shutter button powers the camera on and starts recording automatically.
  • Advanced audio processing captures left and right stereo audio channels, and 3 microphones offer advanced wind noise reduction when you're racing at high speeds or trying to film in windy conditions.

had it for close to a year, what an amazing device.

If you desperately want one, buy the 4

Software is terrible, very glitch, and a mess to use. Works when it wants to. Overpriced for what you are getting. Need at least another battery if you get it cause on standby mode, it drains it rapidly. Mic is better on the 4

I bought this in April and not even three months later the screen on the back goes completely black and wont turn back on. Turns out a quick google search shows that it's a common issue with many GoPro Hero 5 and in most cases there's nothing you can do but send it back. Just don't expect them to pay for shipping. Not the first GoPro model i've purchased but definitely the last. The quality has been going down hill. How can it be an action camera yet it can't even keep the screen on from normal usage, I just use it for blogging. Really GoPro?

Bugs, Bugs, and more Bugs

I purchased the Hero 5 Black and all I've been experience are bugs, bugs, and more bugs. The "GoPro Plus" Cloud subscription is completely useless, as it randomly deletes photos/videos. The Auto Upload feature is faulty at best - it takes a fraction of your photos/videos and leaves out the rest. Offloading your content is a huge pain using the Quik software because it often freezes up, or doesn't recognize the GoPro completely, or freezes mid-transfer. All in all, the software features are junk. The camera itself is decent until it freezes or shuts off randomly. Not happy at all with purchase.

My first gopro so I'm in love with it. The video quality is amazing. Only down side I can think of is the battery seems to die quickly so I see why some people buy an extra battery to just pop in when the other dies. Apart from that, great camera, super easy and convenient to use.

Mediocre product but nothing better on market

Coming from Hero 4 Silver, I expected much more. Pros: Voice control is nice. Menus, and app are well thought Different video modes (unlike fisheye Olympus Tough) Cons: Can't reuse batteries from older camera. Layout is different and worse then before. Still requires casing around Scratch prone

Not Happy

Camera is good, but 100% impressed with it. The mic area is covered up with the case so if you have an external mic to use your hooped. They say its because its waterproof, then whats the point of the case over it ? In the end buy the previous model one. Not happy with purcahse

Quite simply; the best Gopro ever made

  • from Oakville

Worst go pro ever

On my 4th replacement camera.Memory card issues even with go pro recommended cards.Camera freezes in middle of using and has to be taken out of housing and battery taken out to restart it after it freezes.images are not recording on memory card consistently.I spend more time fiddling with this camera and contacting support then using it. Conecting camera to a smartphone is another issue as well and using quick app way to inconsistent. Can't save edited video and app.constantly crashes. Not even go pro has answers and solutions for all this issues. Test your camera before taking it on vacation and have a back up so you don't get disappointed if it fails you.

Compact and rugged

This is my first GoPro but I have quickly learned about the many features it has. Great photo and video quality, voice command is outstanding when you are busy cycling or paddling, simple button controls. I am still learning about all the options. Easy to mount and dismount. Battery life is good; I got a 128GB card so I have lots of room. Very happy with this product.

Great camera. One star missing for a reason.

I have been a GoPro user for almost 3 years now. Love my Gopro Hero 4 Silver. I got the camera for the water proof feature out of the box, the voice control and the fact this guy had a far better Audio recording feature. The silver 4 is awesome but try getting audio on it...try. The GoPro 5 black is far superior in this area. Love the fact you turn off GPS, voice and even turn on the wind reduction for bike rides or when your high up with strong winds. You can even take off the lens protector and change if it gets damaged. The only con? This case , this camera is water proof, as is. Great right? Well yeah. However, the doors can be frustrating to open or take off. The battery door itself is not replaceable, so use caution when opening. The door to the charging cable is removable and can be replaced. There is a trick to removing this correctly and easily. I would recommend watching some videos on youtube. Many have damaged the door by removing and trying to place it back on. Other than that, this action camera is amazing. Highly recommend. I use this with my karma grip and its a lot of fun.

I ordered the GoPro5 with Helmet as a Christmas Gift. I only received the camera not the accessories, very disappointing. My claim was not approved and was beyond return, so I was stuck paying more than I got!

Good camera,

This camera works well & takes quite clear video in the modes I used, mostly 1080p 30 & 60 Hz. The included screen on the back is invaluable for aiming & playback now that GoPro has idiotically made the companion software for your phone now require a sign-on and internet connection, something that's not available at most locations where these cameras would be used. Rather an epic fail. No documentation included, you have to search for it on the GoPro website. Battery life was sufficient to record over an hour of video while skiing at -10 degrees C.

so far so good

So far this camera has worked well, as advertised. However it is a bit expensive for this camera but i guess you pay for the name..

New to GoPro and very satisfied

I'm new to this and having fun testing and learning, I had to learn the most important thing is to test what your computer is capable of, mine is only good for 1080 60FPS and all the angles, I tried 4K and the other settings and thought I had done something wrong because the video was all choppy and skipping. I'm most happy with the medium and wide view settings. The voice control is amazing to use and I created a cheat sheet until I get used to it. The stability built in feature works really well, I've made a mount for my small dog's sweater and will try that out this weekend, I'm looking forward to how that will look for fun. I now have the confidence to buy diving accessories and the full gambit to expand our uses for this high end picture and video camera.

GOPro's amazing!

It certainly is the best camera out there.

Poor performance

I bought this camera on 2016 boxing day which was attracted by a description on best buy website "night vision". However there is no night vision option on this camera. I purchased a memory card to use it on Hero 5 Black, according to the description given on the gopro website. Unfortunately card stop working after 17 minites continuous shooting. I noticed following defects on Hero 5 back which are given below 1. Lens portion of camera is heating up after 15 minits continuous shooting. 2.There is no good video quality for 4k video (my canon 6D have better quality on 1920*1080 video shooting than Gopro) 3. Misleading information on remaining battery charge information. 4. camera stop working after exactly 17 minits shooting..

not bad

A great improvement

Really excited about the new Hero5. The smaller size and being waterproof (water resistant?) without a case is huge. I'm coming from a Hero3 so the bump in quality is noticeable. I'm looking forward to the release of the Karma Grip.

this camera is a very good all around camera for vlogging and also using as an action camera

  • from Vancouver, BC

Impressive, few quirks

The new Hero 5 Black has an impressive array of features. Up to 4K recording, voice control, touchscreen control, image adjustment, micro-HDMI and USB Type-C, waterproofing, etc. You get it. All variation between the previous Hero 4 models has been combined in the Hero 5 and then some. It's a very capable camera for the size that it is and offers a good value for the price point. Three things that I didn't expect from the new camera - and not necessarily in a good way. First, the camera does get warm when filming at 4K resolution or doing timelapse photography. This is common of all the GoPro models, so it's not any defect, but an ongoing challenge of fitting all the components in such a small body. Second, the package does not include a standard tripod mount, which for timelapse photography is necessary. GoPro accessories are plentiful, so it wasn't a big deal. Third, battery life is variable due to the small size of the camera and what settings are enabled. GPS and WiFi are power-hungry antennae and the battery really isn't so physically large - rest assured the USB Type-C port allows for faster charging without a proprietary wall charger. A portable battery for your phone will work double-duty for the Hero 5. That's my observations of the camera, hope it all works out for you.

Just bought one for our company to shoot an event, was first told that the unit comes with a protective case and it does not. While it is "water proof" it isn't bomb proof or whatever the old ones were and when you are using it for extreme sports it doesn't take long to blow something like this up. Secondly I asked if the unit comes with a cradle to charge the battery, was told yes and sold a second battery. The battery they sold me was not for this unit and the unit does not come with any battery cradle, you must charge it through the GOPro. Thrid and most important, plugged the battery in and fully charged the unit, tried to use it, battery lasted about 3mins...charged the unit over night, checked it in the morning prior to the event and the battery was full (travel time was 40mins) the unit was off and battery was drained by the time I got to the function. Plugged the unit in all day and the gopro never charged. For this price tag....I DEMAND you test your product go pro!
