I found the printer easy enough to set up, but using it was a whole other ball game. Constantly lost connection, would often freeze partway through a print job, could only print 2 or 3 pages consecutively before printer would freeze. Even after uninstalling and reinstalling, same problems occurred. As a student I feel as though this printer has caused me more stress than my courses.

Better then expected.

Just bought it 2 days ago for my university even though there isn't much to print but for emergence purposes and scanning. I had been looking for a printer for about a month was very nervous had 2 inkjet printers before from hp wasn't so pleased with them or to buy another hp printer but I went for it after reading all the reviews. This review is for those looking for a printer with medium printing speed it did everything on its on and connected with my Galaxy right away. It has made it very easy for me now I print and scan documents right from my Galaxy and to my Galaxy. Not the fastest not the slowest but does its job :)

The set up isn't working

This printer is extremely frustrating. It works and then suddenly doesn't work. Also, the set up is so complicated and has so many different options that it is confusing. I tried to not set it up and it worked temporarily and now after I did the set up it worked to print one thing and then stopped working. I am returning it and will avoid these printers.

Not sure if I would buy another HP printer

My 4520 worked fine for 20months then installed new black cartridge and now won't print, been to HP Forums and haven't being able to find an answer, might phone HP support

Its a great printer. Works well for all of us. I can be anywhere in the house and it works. great price too

Love it!

Love this printer! Super easy to set up with every device - PC, Mac, cell phones. Love the option of email to print. Love that it duplexes automatically (my previous printer was very low tech). Just a really good buy!

Waste of money

No rhyme or reason as to when it decides to feel like working. I'd guess maybe 20% of the time it will work. Usually just says printer offline even when i'd manually turn it on and wait. Do not recommend at all, I went out and spent more money on a higher quality printer.

I've had this printer for just over a year now and love it. It does everything I need and is easy to operate. Highly recommend.

Original in-store purchase from BestBuy. Doesn't maintain network connection. Every time I want to print something I have to spend hours trouble shooting the connection problems. Every time I turn the printer on, it happily prints all previously failed print jobs but then shuts down the connection with my network and won't print my current job. HP support number directs you to their support website. The website is full of useless hyperlinks that run into 404 codes. I have printed maybe two dozen documents and now it won't commit any ink to paper when I print the error reports for the above mentioned issues. I don't understand why this printer has gotten any good reviews.

don't buy this printer!

HORRIBLE nothing but headaches, doesn't print half of the time, throwing it in garbage

  • from Ajax, ON

Great printer, perfect for the family home.

This printer replaced our old Envy 4500. So far, it is working well. One of the cool features is that the arm comes out "automagically" if you're printing something and forget to pull it out. I didn't know about this feature and the first time it happened - pure joy, no pages on the floor, lol. This is a perfect printer for the average family home. The last thing, I have to say, get HP Instant Ink. Hands down, there is no reason not to set this up. Ink gets delivered to your door, your printer orders it ahead of time on its own, and you actually SAVE money. Look into it, sign up.

The worst connectivity and setup

This has to be the worst printer I have ever used. Impossible to get setup wirelessly--shouldn't even be allowed to make that claim. DO NOT BUY IF YOU WANT TO USE WIRELESSLY, there is a 50% chance you're computer won't connect especially windows OS. Spend the extra money and get an EPSON, you will hate your life if you buy this peice of junk.

Simple, Compact and MultiFunctional

Good printer: a slim design that works wirelessly. High quality as HP does it. Very functional for personal and family use. Good print outs and maximizes it's ink capacity. Touch screen buttons are easy to use and navigate. Sad though that the printables already retired. 1 star less because when I reviewed the specs, I thought I can scan from a legal size paper but not. It can scan only up to A4 size. It disables it's quiet mode automatically with certain documents. hope it is always on quiet mode. it's been more than a year from my purchase and i didn't have any problems with the printer itself, works as expected.

So bad

I want to beat this machine to death with a bat. It does everything wrong. Nearly impossible to use.

Inkjet printer 4520

Clarity and colours are just amazing....to use it as a wireless from any lap top or even iPad and writing on both sides really does save money ....looking now forward to developing pictures with it as well....thank you hp for creating an awesome, multitasking machine.....Melinda

It's okay.

I got this on sale. I wouldn't pay full price for it. It's okay. The scanner is cheap. The quality of scans is pretty much what you would expect in an entry level device like this. The software on Mac needs some fine tuning. I signed up for the Instant Ink program, and I really like that. I pay a monthly charge, I can print a certain number of sheets, and HP automatically sends me more ink whenever I need it. No additional charge for the ink, just the monthly fee. Not a fast printer, but good enough for home.

Awesome printer!

Loving this printer! I previously had the Canon Pixma. It was absolutely junk compared to this one. Set up for this printer was smooth and I didn't run into any problems. Within 15 minutes I was using it from my cell phone and pc without any issues at all. Not only is the printer awesome, but the service I received was fantastic as well. I was immediately greeted by a gentleman who called another employee and led me directly to the printer and carried to the front. Both were extremely polite and made sure my questions were answered. Very impressed with the printer and the service.

Only worth it for the value of the ink cartridges

The only reason to buy this printer is that it's cheaper than the ink cartridges that come with it. It seems like HP's sole purpose for making printers is to sell ink. When you printer stops working in a month or two of light use HP will exchange it for a refurbished unit. If you are lucky you might get a year out of the printer before the scanner or some other part stops all together. Mind you... while it works its a pretty solid little printer and scanner unit.

Nice printer

  • from Victoria, BC

A little disappointed

I had a HP Envy 4500 Wireless. It was working great, until the wireless stop working. It's only about a year old. I thought HP Envy 4520 would be adequate. Unfortunately, like many users, it is not as smart as Envy 4500. It's not printing and scanning properly. With Envy 4500, I only need to press print and the wireless would receive the message and print. With Envy 4520, I need to get to fiddle with it before it works. I still don't know what's wrong with me. It is definite not user friendly as Envy 4500.

PH Envy 4520 Wireless Printer

The price is good. The printer is good thought a little bit noise when printing. Can't print out the correct color especially the red color.

  • from Coquitlam, BC

Not a very good printer

Price is great, quality is fine, speed is perfect, but the most important feature for a wireless printer is not working properly. Every 10 prints I have to either launch the HP Printer Doctor to fix the wireless issue or restart the printer to get it going; also sometimes it gets the data, but it will print it an hour after, so I loose papers and envelopes as I printed them and hour ago after I found it didn't print. I have three more wireless printers (Brother Printers) at home, but none of them acted like this even once. If you use the cable it will be a great printer compare to price, but not as a wireless printer.

  • from Toronto, ON

It works...occasionally

The wireless connect can work...for NO more than 3 minutes. It even drops off in the middle of printing. No kidding.

  • from Toronto, ON

Constant communication issues

Like many others, I'm experiencing the same issues: Although wireless is connected, within minutes the communication between computer and printer is dropped and the printer needs to be restarted. I've never been able to scan more than a page or two before the communication fails and with scanning specifically a restart doesn't fix the issue at all. Terrible, awful, horrible unit with relentless requests for new ink when there's no way the cartridge is empty or to sign up to HP's ink program. I would never recommend this unit.

  • from North Bay, ON

Great printer for the money

I purchased this particular printer because my work only stocks HP ink and they stock the ink for this one. I also was intrigued by the automatic double-sided printing feature. I have had it for two weeks now and love it! I plugged it into my computer because I find that wifi is never reliable and printers are a beg enough pain with out adding to it. The set up was super easy...for the printing but to try and get set up to scan on Windows 10 was awful. Had to download 2 different apps and then sell my soul but it worked great after it was finally set up. Prints very quickly and the quality is great. I have printed a lot on it already and so far so good. Much better than my last.

excellent printer for the money. wifi noise from previous hp printer resolved

  • from Toronto, ON

Looks good but.....

Couldn't even get this printer set up, the drivers wouldn't install. I was on the phone with tech support for almost 3 hours, gave them access to my computer and they couldn't do anything. They then promised me that a software technician would phone back in an hour but I never heard from them. I returned the printer and got a Canon which works great.

  • from Stittsville, ON

Garbage printer

I have the same problem as JoseeM (and other users on the HP forums, apparently). The printer is connected to my network and the wireless indicator is on, however, after a few minutes of use, communication is lost with the devices I am trying to print from. Constant shutdown and restart required to print anything. It's the most frustrating piece of crap I have ever owned.

  • from Chestermere, AB

Great Computer

Great computer. Prints really well. Took no time at all to set up. It has the option to print fast or slow. I found the fast speed a little noisy so chose the slightly slower speed (you can hardly tell the difference in speed) and it prints really quietly now. I also like it as it is very compact so fits into a small space. Would highly recommend buying this computer.

Wireless Networking issue and scanner not working

I've contacted HP Customer Support. I've had this printer for 6 weeks (and I'm computer savvy) and had to uninstall and re-install the full drivers version about 20 times, not to mention changing the router's settings just as many times. Although it is set to NEVER disconnect, the printer is nowhere to be found after 3 minutes of being powered on. Redundant error message: "The Computer cannot Communicate with Printer". So, after 6 weeks, I resigned myself after those never ending power on/power off/power on and purchased a USB cable. The problem remains the same...the printer goes offline after 3 minutes even connected with a cable. The scanner doesn't work and never worked from Day 1. I strongly advise you to head over HP's Forum and search for the two problems above mentioned and you will notice that I'm not the only one who ended up with an HP LEMON. Stay away from the Envy 4520 should you want to keep your sanity.

Great Value!1

I have been waiting for the ability to print from my various gadgets. This printer gives me that ability. Not only can I print when connected to the wireless network, I can print from anywhere! Just send an email to the printer's email address and it will print. It looks sleek and the only wire we are using is the power cable. Less clutter. I don't print too often currently so I am not worried about replacing ink. When my kids grow up and have to print assignments etc. I will go back to black and white laser printers.

  • from Victoria, BC

Great value!

This is a great printer for basic users. Print quality is excellent, print speed is good for an inkjet, and ink cartridges seem to last long. Also the power supply is built into the printer, so all you have is a power cord, no brick! The negatives are the lack of ethernet port, quirky touch-screen interface, and expensive ink cartridges.

Great Printer HP - Envy 4520

This is my third Hp Printer. overall I have been happy with HPprinters. They have proved to be quite workhorses with very little maintenance. Ink cartridges don't last long. I am a light printer. I don' know how one gets around it. I purchased the printer during Christmas Sale. Great value ! It is truly wireless. It was very easy to set up. I use it to print documents from the I Pad and the smartphone. Works like a charm . Automatic double sided feature is absolutely paper saver. It works without a hitch. It is packed with all-in-0ne features such as copying and scanning for a very resonable price. Overall an excellent printer !

HP Envy 4520 colour All in one printer

It seems to work very well.Good quality printing for general use. I did have a little difficulty inputting the WiFi Router info from the LED screen on the printer. The alpha inputs are arranged in groups of three letters. You have to discover yourself and be very quick with input taps to get to the letter you want within the groups. No mention of this in the installation instructions ! Was very frustrating, but very pleased with the printer so far

Best Buy Provides the wrong details

Not to bad for a sale price printer. Have not tried to print a picture yet, but excited to. This printer does not handle legal size paper. It is a bit big but very easy to install and contains a few extras the are amazing! I would recommend buying this if you are on a budget but need a wireless printer.
