slow wifi

expensive device but wifi performance is very slow. No solution can be found after more than 1 year after release date.

  • from Halifax, NS

It's fast, but it's DD-WRT/LEDE support is still unreliable for me.

PROS it's very speedy with good coverage when running at 5Ghz. On the other hand, it's performance/coverage is middling for 2.4Ghz. CONS I bought this with the intention of putting either DD-WRT/LEDE on it, but found it to be unreliable (even with recent fixes). So now I am stuck running it in access-point mode using stock-operating system connected to my old router via cabling.

Very satisfied, works well with LEDE 17.01.2

I'm very pleased with the router, works well and fast with LEDE 17.01.2. I came close to remove one star as it claims OpenSource compatibility with OpenWRT and DD-WRT, yet both projects doesn't seem to be fully ready for this specific hardware version. LEDE, an OpwnWRT fork which is supposed to be merging back with OpenWRT (still hasn't happened as of July 2017), does support it officially. I also noticed some reviews complaining about the 5GHz band; well 5GHz doesn't traverse walls as easily as 2.4GHz so I wouldn't expect as much; I do have excellent 5GHz signal in the rooms closest to the router though which is exactly what I wanted. The 2.4GHz covers the whole house and surroundings just fine.

Not bad but not the range i was hoping for. - WRT3200ACM

Have had this unit for 3 months. Setup was pretty easy. 2.4Ghz seems to slow down during the day (not my isp). 5Ghz speed is great if you are on the main floor. Cannot use the 5Ghz network upstairs, downstairs or out back. Even though you can see the 5Ghz (two bars) the signal drops out while streaming movies. I have a 12TB NAS system hooked up to it (using two CAT6 network cables) but can only transfer files at a maximum speed of 10mb/s. My house thermostat and network stereo kept loosing wifi signal. Finally gave up and called linksys to help. One of their tech's remotely signed in and noticed i was using old firmware (even though it set to "automatically update"). He said it updates software but not firmware. (not sure why its setup this way). Since the update, all is well but I will be upgrading the antennas to be able to reach my pool. Hopefully this helps. The router says it has smart technology to be able to switch between the stronger signal but what's the point when all of pc's and ios devices don't. You have to manually switch them.

False advertising

Their website state that it is "Open source ready with OpenWrt® and DD-WRT®". I purchased this WIFI router in December 2016, it's now April 2017 and there is still no opensource WIFI driver available. Therefore, this router does not work with OpenWRT or DD-WRT if you want to use the WIFI. Also bestbuy's site states "Open-source ready means it's fully customizable with open source firmware from OpenWrt and DD-WRT for customizing networking functions or optimizing your router for specific use cases". Same thing, false again.

Bad Choice for Me

I have the same problem as one of the other reviewers here, can not transfer large files to the drive, 20MB and more, keeps dropping out and the only way to get it back is cycle the router power. Have had extensive contact with Linksys executive support even got a new router to see if it fixed the file transfer but no luck... I gbought this to have a 3TB drive as network storeage but it was a big waiste of money... Got a router that will not do the job and a 3TB Drive that I now have to hook up as a local drive on one of my machines...

The best router i have ever had

Everything about this router is amazing. Highly recommended for muiltpal devices connected

  • from Richmond, BC

not as good as i expected

overall speed is great, but not stable, the 2.4GHz wifi would drop signal once a day. but the 5.0GHz is great and has no problem.

Nothing but problems

After 2 months of owning it finally stopped transmitting and needs replacing at my cost for defective product shipping. I put up with poor performance and repeated resets waiting for a software revision. If you add the open firmware you can void your warranty so whats the point of buying an open router unless your a gambler. I should have choose another router, but I am stuck with this thing till I get fed up.

One of the best routers

Got this router on boxing day sale and i'm very pleased with it so far. The range and speed is far better than my old netgear router. I would definitely recommend this.

Easy to setup, easy to use

From opening the box, ready to use took 20 minutes. Reading product reviews, the Linksys WRT3200 is ahead of its time and devices that can take advantage of its features do not currently exist. But on sale its the same price as the WRT1900, so no brainer to buy. It was very easy to setup, easy to start using. Hopefully it lives up to its billing. Esthetically its contradictory of todays electronic equipment styling (like plain white Apple & Google stuff, but looks ok. Really deserves a 4 1/2 stars.

Good router when on sale.

Got this router to replace my old 7 years old "b/g/n" router, no "ac" yet. On 2.4 GHz band I did not experienced drastic change in speed, but it does handles simultaneous work of multiple devices without disconnections, lags and up/down speed issues. On 5 GHz (MU-MIMO) I've got speed about 3 times faster on my MU-MIMO enable clients and twice faster on "ac" only.. Cannot comment about reliability yet, having it about for a month, so time will show. Overall good product, easy setup, user-friendly web interface, lots of options which I have not even try yet.

Excellent performance

Speed tested all our devices after installing the WRT3200ACM and saw a several multiple (2-3X) speed improvement compared to our ISP DSL connection hub. No longer have dead zones in the corners of the basement. And outdoors around the house the signal strength is also much improved. Everyone in the family is glad I installed this router. Also a great mobile app is available for remote monitoring. Highly recommend.

Best router when you got it on sale

I don't know how the other review got it there. But so far this router has given me the best experience among all the other wireless routers I have tested above 1900Mbps. I have tested ASUS ac3100, ASUS Onhub, D-Link ac3200 and Synolgy RT1900AC. The balance between features and reliability and performance, and of course price, on this router is the best. I use a home NAS system attached to a wireless AP (I have to hide it in a corner in case of burglary). The speed of accessing the NAS is 20Mbps/19Mbps, fastest among these routers. And it has never crashed so far. It is a little pricy for the original price, but I got it during box day when it was on sale.

Great range and speed!

A definite upgrade from our Bell connection hub (now used only as a bridge). Post-install, we speed tested those devices primarily used in wireless mode and have seen a substantial (multiples) improvement that now hits maximum rated service level to the house. Good signal strength around second floor (5 bdrm) and throughout basement. Had considered mesh style repeaters to cover dead zones, but glad I went this route. Very satisfied with purchase (esp kids!). MAC filtering, parental controls etc, this has it all in a convenient GUI. And the mobile app is a handy feature.

  • from Halifax, NS

Poor signal strength and faulty stock firmware

Much worse signal strength than the router ISP provided. 5G signal would sometimes completely shutdown. Have to reboot the router from time to time. Wrong indications of connection type on device map. Badly implemented https mode. Cannot choose https only. Long mobile app loading screen.

Linksys Wireless AC3200

Purchased the router during boxing week sale at discounted price. Setup took 10-15 minutes, simple and easy. I had AC1900 before and use to have wifi signal interference issue with home electronics. So far no signal interference observed and wifi signal strength is excellent. Overall satisfied with product.

Linksys Wireless AC3200 Dual-Band MU-MIMO Gigabit Router (WRT3200ACM-CA)

I bought this unit on Boxing Day, and it was delivered a few days later. I attached the anti *4, set up all of my cabling including 2 computers, TV, and a Buffalo link station, and my printer and everything just worked as advertised. Yeah team! Now it would be best to have at least a little knowledge in working with IP addresses, but even that isn't a deal breaker. One hour on the web will give you all the knowledge you need to set up almost anything either via cable or Wi-Fi. No matter what Change the Name of the Router to anything that makes sense to you, but Don't use your name or that of anyone else who lives with you! All so (Change All preconfigured Passwords before you leave the computer - Day 1} Or all of your best friends that you don't know on your Block will be stealing your data (Cap) (and if You're not using this unit in a public place, then Turn OFF the Guest Account all together!!!!) Oh and one more thing. Mount your Wireless Router Up Hi, as All units Beam their signals Down, as in Down hill. :)

Fast router but connection keep dropping when transfer big files to attached USB Drive

I tried two. Attached a usb 3.0 HD drive to the routers, both of them lost connections when transfer big files to the USB drive (In or Out). I had Linksys EA 6200 with the same USB drive never have such a problem. I also updated to the newest firmware. Still lost connection when do big file transfer to/from the USB drive.
