Works with shaw direct satellite

Bought this on sale because cheaper then replacing a shaw direct DVR remote. Took a chance that it would work with that and it does! Set up was easy and quick. Was skeptical setting up through a computer would be easier than entering codes like a traditional universal remote, but it was way easier! Nice to have one remote run the satellite and the smart tv features. Wish there was a button for the smart hub, maybe there is and I haven't found it yet. but pushing menu twice works. 4 stars instead of 5 because you have to have directed right at the receiver. Won't work under a blanket or any obstruction. Also because there are more buttons than the shaw remote, they are smaller. but overall, I would buy again as a cheaper option than replacing through Shaw.

Only One Activity

Wanted to get a decent universal remote control and I had one years ago. I bought it as it's relatively cheap and I don't have that many devices to connect. The feel of the remote on your hand is great, light and sleek and feels sturdy. After the initial set up, the left/right controls while on SmartHub didn't work, but re-syncing it again seem to have fixed it. Setting it up is not as difficult as you might think, especially with the myharmony portal assisting you in your set up. I quickly realized though that because it's direct IR, there's a coffee table in the way and my equipment are low in the floor, making this awkward reach around to hit the devices. But the one activity limitation is enough for me to return the remote, as I don't want to switch devices and turn them on individually. I need at least two activities, watch tv, and watch dvd. Will try the Logitech Harmony Smart Control, where i don't have to do a direct wand of the control to the device...plus the added activities.

Limited to only one activity

A major deficiencies compared to other Harmony remotes; can only program one activity: Watch TV. If you want to have other activities, e.g., play DVD, you need to turn off all devices and then select each device manually. This is nothing more than a glorified universal remote with a single activity.

Really good product.

The main purpose i bought this remote is to replace a DVR remote that stopped working. No other universal remote that i tried would get the DVR completely functional except this one. The harmony 350 has extensive possibilities you can program exactly what function you want for any button but you have to be mildly computer oriented. You do not enter codes from a list instead you plug the remote in the usb and log in logitech and enter your tv,vcr, dvr, dvd etc.. model number and your remote gets programmed with default settings which you can modify later or tailor to your satisfaction. What a beauty.

You'll probably want more

One of the "killer features" in universal remotes is the ability to easily swap between activities. Nothing interesting on TV, and you want to watch a DVD instead? Press a single button and the remote automatically commands multiple devices to power on or off, change input source, change channel, etc. It's also great for kids: they can press a single button to switch between TV, movies and games. No need to memorize complicated sequences of button presses! This remote, sadly, does little of that. With only a single activity button, "Watch TV", this remote will turn on all the devices required to, say, watch TV and control the devices together. But if you want to switch to your DVD player, you'll need to know which buttons to press to get there: switch to receiver, change the input, switch to dvd, turn it on. Sure, you only have one remote on your table instead of four, but the convenience just isn't there. The remote seems well built, no complaints there. It comes with a USB cable for programming and a set of batteries. To program the remote you will need a Mac or PC with an internet connection. Plug in the remote, launch the software (it's on the logitech website), and get started. I had some hiccups here. I wasn't able to use my old harmony software, I had to download a new version AND register a new login (why??) The Harmony software crashed a few times and was a little annoying to use. It worked eventually though. Overall I'm disappointed. I think, unless you've only got one input source (like a cable box), that you will be disappointed, too. I suggest getting the Harmony 650 instead.

Why and How

As you get older and are married, you find you need two remotes to control the sound on the TV. The wife sitting across the room with one and me with the other one. That' is why I purchased two 350 remotes. Set up was easy on computer.. Life again is fun.

Works as you'd hope

I lost my Blue Ray player remote, so I found the need to get this. Beforehand, we were using 3 separates remotes too. Anyway, setup is about as easy as you could imagine. You just plug it in with the provided USB into your computer. Then you type in your devices and model #'s. A couple nice features like favourite channel buttons (if you wish) and you're good to go. No entering program codes, holding a button towards a device for a minute, powering on/off, etc.. Everything worked first try and pretty intuitive remote. Should've bought this ages ago.

Logitech Harmony 350 Remote Control

Somehow, before I bought it, I got the understanding that the remote would handle more than one event. We have it set to turn on the TV, receiver, and Bell box. That is all it can do. I needed to turn on and off the DVD player and HD box as well. This it can not do. Disappointed :0(

Awesome Remote!

I'm owned this remote for a few years now. I couldn't believe the versatility especially for the cost. I've owned "universal" remotes before, but the programmability and range of devices this remote works with puts them all to shame. It took me about 5 minutes to completely customize this remote for the 3 devices in my home entertainment center. When I replaced components a couple of years later, it was another 2 minutes to reprogram it through the USB interface. If your device is unusual enough not to be listed on the website, the remote can learn directly from your old remote. Another huge plus is the lack of LCD screen. This remote doesn't need a charger and runs for years on regular AA batteries just like normal remotes.

Only supports one activity

This remote only supports one activity. Yes, you only need one remote to control several devices, but you still have to press several buttons to switch between activities, which almost makes having a universal remote pointless. The Harmony 650, which supports multiple activities, is only slightly more expensive but worth way more in value.
