Many Pros, some cons

I chose for Harmony Companion rather than Harmony 650 as I wanted the Hub in order to be able to control TV from Google Home. I also wanted to get rid of the limitation of IR communication between remote and the devices I wanted to control (which requires a direct line of sight between remote and device) as my TV is on a wall and all other boxes are on an adjacent wall. However, HUB will still need a direct access line with all devices to be controlled. The first thing to have in mind is that this system works based on defined activities (Cable TV, DVD player, Netflix, etc.). For each activity, you have to include all devices required. By default, actions for each device will be set to the remote and you may further add additional actions or change the existing ones. In the CableTV case, I included the cable box and the TV but I didn't want to add the soundbar as this one was managed by the TV. In this case, I wasn't able to add commands for soundbar so I had to add it and avoid double commands on it (from HUB and TV). In conclusion, the remote act as a universal remote only for devices associated with the activity you are in. Defining activities is easy through App or on a PC. Most of the time things are working as expected. I experienced doubled commands at pressing one button of the remote, more than once. Additional functions you may add on the remote, may be harder to remember and you have to go into the App or PC to see where they are defined for each activity. Because of this, it is easier to use a phone or tablet as remote but personally I prefer using a remote. Running activities from Google Home is working. Overall it serves its purpose to control everything from one place.

Works well

Have 2 of these and they work well for me. Setup is a chore, but once done, all was well. My only criticism is that the remote should have more buttons, and should definitely not overload the FF and Skip functions onto 1 button.

Worst Harmony Remote

I am very tech savvy and enjoy setting up new gadgets - except for this one! The remote setup was not easy and the IR eye is very sensitive and must be placed perfectly to communicate with the hub. So much for extended distance and was of use! Then the buttons are too minimal and close to one another. When turning off the devices, the power button is so close to the music button that half of the time the music starts playing when turning your devices off! Returned this model and purchased the Harmony 665 - mush easier setup and more reliable function.

this is not a Shaw Gateway fiendly remote You loose most of your functions as the remote does not mesh with prior Logitech units NOR shaw's remotes All in all I very much regret ordering this device I may just turn it into a recycler and go back to the 650 Don't buy this at all!

Just great

Big fan of this one. Works great, remote is slim, easy to manage and very easy to setup. The app also works great - didn't think i'd use the app at all but very convenient when you're in the kitchen (or elsewhere) and need adjust the volume or something. Battery life is also very good (unlike the Harmony Ultimate with the LED screen that just goes through batteries like toilet paper). Would highly recommend this product.

Almost there, the Elite might be the remote for me

Coming from a Harmony 650, this is a big step up, mainly wanted for the Bluetooth control options. Smart home control, double bonus. At the same time, coming from the 650 I feel a little short changed. I wish I could select a device and control it with out reaching for my phone or tablet. I'm also not the norm. I have an extensive entertainment system that includes 2 TV's with a ton of peripherals. I knew I would need to keep my 650 around, but I'm reaching for it more often than I thought I would be. One of those things, you don't realize how much you use something until you don't have it. The system does everything you would want and more, the remote comes up just a bit short. Setting Hue lights when starting a movie is great, just wish you could have the lights get brighter when you pause. Maybe I can, haven't gone deep into macro's. I think the Elite will be a future upgrade and this will make a great replacement for the 650 in my Living room. The remote is very well laid out, back light would be nice but you get a feel for it real fast, not having to point the remote at the tv is another bonus. Overall great system. Remote falls just short, but it's by design. Keeping things simple for everyday use.

Responsive and simple (with extra blaster)

I have owned a Harmony 900 which helped me understand how to set up the remote because the information that comes with the product is pretty minimal. Simply put, the remote you see in the picture is all I needed (it sends radio frequency RF signals to the hub (also pictured) which then sends IR signals to your devices, What isn't clear on the box is that you get one "blaster" which supplements the hub in sending signals to components that are not in the line of sight of the hub (ie on a different shelf in a closed cabinet). Therefore if you have a cable box and apple tv on one shelf, and receiver on another in the closed cabinet, plus the TV on the wall you need to have the hub on one shelf, a blaster on another, and a second (non-included) blaster for the TV because the remote doesn't send IR signals. I had an extra blaster from my Harmony 900 which thankfully worked. I did not set up the smart phone app as I think it is totally unnecessary for a straightforward AV setup. Setup was easy, and the unit is quicker than my 900 and seems very stable in everything it does. I would have given it 5 stars had it not been for the lack of clarity noted above.

Great remote missing something

I bought this remote and it worked great! It was easy to set up and easy to use, The only problem is that it has no back light so when you are watching TV in the dark you can not see anything when using the remote. I brought it back for that reason only. Please Harmony fix this problem fast!!!

good but missing something

This remote works great, does everything you need it to do and more but be aware that it has no back light so when watching a movie or TV in the dark you will not see any buttons!

Good but missing something

This remote is great works well does everything you need and more, but be aware that it has no back light so when watching a movie in the dark you cannot see any buttons. Very frustrating! I returned it for that reason only.

It Works Great!

I have bought three of these items (for use in the bedroom, basement, and living room). I have my Smart Hubs no greater than 7 feet from the AV devices. I didn't use the IR extenders. You need a decent WIFI signal for the Smart Hub to work responsively with the IOS devices. Runing the IOS app on various iPhones and iPads. App is definitely slower on older iPhones (ex. iPhone 4), but relatively fast on an iPhone SE. Interface is a little clunky, but much better on an iPad. I only use the myHarmony app on PC to programs macros (or as they call it, "Activities"); even built an activity called :"Watch NHL.TV" to turn on the TV, switch to the correct TV input, turn on soundbar, switch to the correct soundbar input, turn on an Apple TV and launch the NHL.TV app. Supplied remote is nothing great, but we use the IOS devices to control things anyways. Only negative is trying to program in non-common devices (ex. a HDMI switch box).

Excellent product

I used to use a Harmony 890 RF remote so I could adjust volume or change music stations from anywhere. Now, with the Harmony companion I can control my TV, PS3, Apple TV and stereo all from my iPhone. The setup was easy and best of all was the low cost. I have not experienced any of the delays that some reviews indicate.

  • from Winnipeg

very convenient

I was using 6 different remotes (tv, soundbar, roku, android tv box, cable box, and philips hue tap) before I got this one. Now I only use this single remote. Must buy!

Good for the price

This products works...however isn't easy to set up. My husband and I were left frusterated, many nights with trying to set it up. We are not "tech-savy" people, and have minimal patience; however for others with teenagers or people in the house with IT abilities, i'm sure it's fine, easy and great.

Love it! only one remote now!!

We have finally been able to get rid of three remotes, that operate three different devices using the Harmony Home remote. Love the fact that we can use the infrared antenna booster so that we can keep the cupboard door closed that houses the satellite, PVR, DVD player. The set up was easy and operation of the remote is simple.

Frustrating and unreliable

This worked so badly that I'm left wondering if I have a defective product. The set up is painful because the iPhone app is ridiculously slow. The software on my laptop was barely better and clunky to use. Once I did get things set up the remote would only work directly in front of the cabinet door and would take 3-4 tries before one or two components would respond. This project is two hours of my life spent fighting with this system that I can't get back. It's going back tomorrow....

Slow App

Great remote but the app is so slow I prefer to get off the sofa and adjust the devices manually. Defeats the purpose, so I don't think I could recommend it to a friend.

  • from Stittsville, ON

Pretty Good.

It was easy to set up, easier than the old versions. I like that you don't have to point it at the TV and keep it there for 30 seconds. The ONLY thing I absolutely dislike this remote is that it has no lighting. In the dark it is absolutely useless.

  • from Oshawa, ON

WOW What a great remote

Replaced my 890 and I wish I had done it sooner. Easy setup and works flawlessly. Hurry up and get one!

  • from Yellowknife, NT

Outstanding Value

I was delighted with the value of this purchase. This remote replaces an older Harmony One remote. Although I miss the backlighting and LCD screen on the Harmony One this remote is far more useful and much easier to set up. This remote is excellent value.

  • from Stratford, ON

Exactly what was advertised.

I have had one of these for a couple years now. I am getting one for the inlaws. So easy to set up as long as your setup is not too complicated. Simple and reliable.

Best Harmony I've owned

I've owned multiple harmony remotes and this is the one I'm finally happy with. Gone are the days of selecting to watch a bluray and holding the remote up for 20 seconds while all the commands are sent. Gone are the days of using the help button. Simply press the action you want and let the hub do the rest. The remote was disappointing at first but it's simplicity and limited buttons surprisingly did the job with no issues.

Love these remotes - Almost like magic

I have two of these remotes. They are cool to setup and are almost magical when you click the activity button and things just work. I have mine linked to my Hue lights, and the click of "on" or "off" and voila instant magic. Highly recommended. I have Siri enabled stuff too... I'm just hoping they would link at some point, but alas, it's great for the NOW!

Awful remote- DO NOT BUY

Absolutely awful remote. The battery charge lasted 24 hrs when not in the cradle. It would stop working when a new firmware update was available- forcing it to be connected to a PC. The PC Harmony interface was so unstable it needed to be re-installed each time you wanted to communicate with the remote. Often it would forget settings and need to be reconfigured using the PC which began the cycle again... Just an awful remote for a huge price.

  • from Toronto, ON

Just buy it, you won't regret it.

If you know harmony remotes, the setup is a breeze. Much simpler than in the past. All changes synch wirelessly, there is no need to connect a usb cable. The remote itself is super nice... I was worried about not having a screen, but in reality I do not miss a screen at all. Not having to aim or point the remote is an added bonus. Being able to control the hub with your phone/tablet is useful as well - for example when playing music throughout the house. Overall it's a quality product for a very reasonable price.

Highly recommended

I kick myself for waiting so long to buy this remote. It solves the issue of my TV box being out of sync with my TV. Now one button ON and one button OFF--the way it should be. I bought two of these and planning on a third. The first one configured quick and easily...after, I had to make the occasional tweak, but it worked well. The second one, I had challenges seeing my network for some reason...but eventually, it did get it after many tries. Once running, it was flawless, no tweaks needed. This remote is often on sale, so I would wait to get a better deal. At [price] it's totally worth it. At [price], it's a little expensive--but you will love it.

Great Product, Poor Logitech Support

This product is great. Easy to setup, easy to use, wide range of supported products. Why only 2 stars for the overall rating? Try to get a second Harmony Home remote. You can't. Logitech doesn't have one available. Only the regular Harmony Smart remote. The only way to get a second remote or replacement is to buy this whole set all over again.

Home Control

I found the remote interesting and fun to setup. As was mentioned in another review it isn't for those who aren't a little on the techie side. It works very well once setup but the manual/instructions are lacking. Would be nice if it had a lighted remote. That wish would be at the expense of battery power which is probably the reason for lights out. Was unable to find instructions on the battery in the remote.

No issues, works great

  • from Kanata, ON

Flexible but Limited

Read the fine print to ensure your devices are support. Lots you can do if your devices support the hub. PS4 support still non-existent (though that's mostly Sony's fault). And there is no ability to control a PC via wi-fi, even though it can clearly communicate with it. Otherwise, nice feature set, and the home control is fun if a bit gimmicky.

  • from Toronto, ON

This is the ONLY remote you would ever need. Very easy to setup and connects to virtually any electronic device you've got. Buy it and get rid of every other ugly remote you have there!

  • from Ottawa, ON

Too much hype - too little value

Actually considered returning this but not best buys fault. I read reviews, one notably saying this best on market. For technies maybe but for old guys like me this is a bad product as I want to use the remote not my phone. If you use your phone ok. If not its useless. I use for tv, pvr, Roku and htmi switch. Symbols on remote don't match those on each original remote. Insufficient number of buttons available on included remote for those needed. Worst is trying to find a, b, and c translated buttons from pvr. So confusing I have to keep phone around just in case remote does not have button available. Save your money. Keep your three original remotes and wait for a digital screen that emulates buttons on each of the originals. Btw gave this 1 star overall. Can't hit stars on my iPad on this survey but they are 1, 1, 3.

Great remote

Well thought out and designed remote. Very easy to setup and customize.

Good Remote - Simple to use

A good product once one gets past the programming required. Not always intuitive despite the application for Android and iOS. Unfortunately it didn't work for my iPhone running IOS 8.2 but I also had an Android tablet. However I would recommend using a laptop or other computer instead as it was much easier to read. The remote now does just about all the functions of my Rogers Nextbox 3.0, a sony CVD, a Panasonic TV and a Yamaha Receiver remotes. So much easier to just click on play TV than use a minimum of two remotes and press multiple buttons. Well worth the money.

Lot's to Like About This Harmony

I've had many Harmony remotes over the years, and I'm usually disappointed in one way or another with functionality, design, or durability. Screen remotes (such as the One or Ultimate) seem like a good idea, until you ask your wife and kids to navigate pages on the remote in order to do one thing or another. That's really the best thing about this remote. A stripped-down physical remote for everyday watching, and a smartphone app for more advanced functionality and tinkering. The remote itself is sleek and ergonomically correct. My only complaint is that it does not have backlighting. On the other hand, the watch battery it uses is expected to last a year, so no managing AA batteries, or Harmony's troublesome charging cradles. The app is pretty wonky and takes getting used to. Once you do, set up is pretty easy, though I don't find it particularly intuitive. I don't use it much for controlling my system; instead preferring the physical remote. Logitech still has some work to do improving the App. Hopefully they will do just that. I use the Home Control capabilities with my Philips Hue lighting. It does the basic job except that you can't command "scenes" set up in the Hue App. It would be nice if the two apps/base stations played together more seamlessly. A big plus is this remote's ability to control IR, RF, bluetooth, and wifi. This is great functionality and a huge value over previous Harmony's.making this is a very good universal remote for the money.
