Don't Give Magic Jack your CC info, they will bill you unwanted services, no refund!

I have been charged for a service i DONT want. After I purchase this device, I realized I don't need it and, continued using my phone app instead. I purposely set it to manual so it would NOT renew. A few months later, after expiry, and no billing, I am somehow billed. "Someone" went into my account and turning "auto renew on" apparently, according to MagicJack. NOT COOL magicJack. I want a refund. And I would like someone to call me about this. You put your customers on hold for hours. Also, very bad business. I want ONLY my MJ app on my phone, and my phone number. Don't get this device, if you change your mind you will be billed for the service, and you will need to set aside a few days of your valuable time to try to get through to them ... only to find out they are keeping your money, and there is nothing you can do about it.

Initial Set Up of Magic Jack Go

Purchased the Magic Jack Go from Best Buy on a "price match" deal. No problems with Best Buy and an extra 10 % off ! - They have always been up front with their price match policy. Reviewed the installation , activation and registration procedures on two or three You Tube presentations; followed suggestions from them and was calling long distance immediately. Parties called said sound was clear with no dropouts and "like I was calling locally.". So, for the first day of operations, an A+ to Magic Jack Go. I will follow up this review in a few weeks to see if all is still well. Suggest to anyone installing for the first time; Use the method of connecting Magic Jack Go to a USB port on a computer and register on the automatically presented web page. If you connect through a computer first, the web site will automatically update the software on the Magic Jack go to the latest available software. I am puzzled that there were so many negative reviews about connecting this device. - Maybe I just "got lucky" by following the instruction to the letter. My particular set up is with an inexpensive Vtech 6.0 cordless phone with the Magic Jack connected to a Bell 1000 modem. - I understand that some had problems with other phones and different modems.

Good choice.

Works as advertised. Easy installation and good reception. Have made calls to Illinois, Oklahoma and Arizona so far with no problems. I was able to keep my original phone number contrary to what others have stated about not being able to. There is a small a small fee for that but worth it. If my first two weeks is any indication of service, I made the correct choice. Saving several hundred dollars/year. It will pay for itself inside a month with the first year service free with purchase.

Excellent machine

Had this now for over 5 yrs. Sound is excellent, wife talks for hours. cant port # and know this. OK. big deal!.If neighbours call its long distance, just hang up and call them. Have good internet. If problem reboot internet.

Good service for price

I have had magic jack for over 10 years. Price is great. People need to read the info when buying this for CanaDian purposes. You cannot port your old number. Only for US cus timers atm. Suggest using Internet that has at least 10 mg service otherwise quality of call may be lacking. Where else can you get free long distance for this price

Feel the magic

I have owned my magic jack for almost two years and WE love it ! When you here a beep on the line that is an indication you have another incoming call. When calls are dropped occasionally and other annoying problems you have to unplug your magic jack from your router for approx. one minute. Then all is good again. You have to reboot your magic jack at least once a month for best results.Your yearly cost is in us funds but that is not a big deal for us regarding your fantastic yearly savings.If you pay for five years your cost is only two dollars per month us.My wife is from England so we add an overseas card for twenty dollars us and magic jack doubled it to forty dollars giving us a cost of two cents a minute to England. I just bought one for my 87 year old mother and she loves it. I tell all my friends about it but some people would rather pay hundreds if not thousands of dollars per year to the big phone compaies.You can lead a horse to water but you cant make them drink....so true...

Very missleading

I haven't connected mine yet but I have to send it back. When I ordered I asked if I can port my number. They said they could. I also understood I was going to be charged for the initial purchase and 1 year service first and at the end of the 30 days I would be charged the 5 year fee . They charged everything up front in US dollars too, not cad like their website kept quoting . They have since said they cannot port a 416 number. I find this odd as other carries, Fido and ooma can port the number. Sales reps just try to close the deal the the tech reps say they don't have the functions that were promised. Now I'm trying to get my money back and I'm not confident it will be easy.

Poor

Magic jack was Unable to port a Canadian number in under 30 days. Cannot return the device as it is outside of the free trial period. Only online customer service is available. Would not recommend if you are in Canada.

Error 23

Had Magicjack for about 1yr now with no major issues but now I'm encountering a huge persistent issue, not able to receive or make outgoing calls. When individuals call me it goes straight to the voicemail and when I attempt to call out I get a message on my phone saying "Error 23....." I've spoken to the helpdesk via chat (apparently that's the only way) and they are completely useless, they have no clue other than disconnect and reconnect the ethernet cable. Finally I complain that what she was suggesting is useless and she transferred me to technical support and they wanted to log into my pc and the only advice was to replace the ethernet cable, again totally useless, however I had to go to Google to try to find a solution. However that solution is sporadic at best. So I wouldn't suggest this to anyone based on my experience, you pay for what you get

Warning

Make sure you read your agreement with a lawyer otherwise this company will take advantage of you. Don’t count on customer support- they will hang up on you . My international prepaid payment expired, money lost! Greedy company that will make rules and regulation to take your money for nothing.

Porting of Canadian Numbers not yet available

I purchased a Magic Jack Go and was told that my telephone number could be ported. Upon registration, I found out that my telephone number which I have had for over 20+ years could not be ported as that service is currently not yet available. The sales staff should be aware of that.

No Technical Support + Lots of Product Issues

People don't waste your valuable time with this product. There is no technical support, check out reviews online. They just want your money, do your research before you buy! I wasted 2 1/2 hours trying to fix and issue that never was resolved. Their tech support is automated responses from a robot appearing like a human. So ridiculous!

Great for cable cutters and save some money

It feels so good to be out of the clutches of the Canadian monopoly of mediocre and ridiculously expensive service providers. Majic Jack was so easy to setup. In less than 2 minutes I had a new number and made high quality calls. Sucks that we cant port our existing Canadian number. I am happy!

Low price price. Magicjack is not PORT / Transfer Canadian number. It US base company it deducts [price] US dollar (CAN [price]) every year for keep number. It is not display phone identity (Unknown). For rural area it consider long distance call. Overall it's Ok.

TERRIBLE!!!

Purchased this a couple of years ago. Have had 2 problems consistently since I purchased it: 1) NO ABILITY TO BLOCK CALLS - I receive anonymous calls at all hours of the day which have no phone number associated. Reported to their customer service and their solution is for me to "change my number" and they don't have a fix but I can recommend it for future improvements. I did that 1 year ago - still NOTHING. 2) The power adapter has blown MULTIPLE times. They will replace it for free - but - you have to pay the shipping. 3) No ability to call / talk to a live customer service agent via phone. They will only help you via online web chat. No ability to escalate problems to a manager. If I could give them a rating less than 1 I would. The only benefit is the phone service works ok and the cost is low. The other frustrations above are completely unacceptable and their customer service is next to non existent.

So far so good

About two weeks in and so far so good. Had some trouble getting it set up with a Canadian number in my area code and customer service in the later evening hours is only by online chat but got through it. Having phone service with caller id and voicemail for less than 6% of the cost of POTS is great. My return on investment is less than 2 months. Having voicemail emailed to me on my mobile is very handy. It is dependent on your internet service so I would not recommend if your ISP is unstable or if you do not have an alternate means of communication (cell phone). I wish we had done this years ago.

Good

Product is okay, had a few glitches in the beginning after original set up. Seems to be working fine now but I do not use this as a daily phone. When testing it out it would kick me off the line and have not used it since.

Magicjack Go free number - Canadian users

The device works well. Following two points should be in knowledge of the purchasers: . Canadian residents have to pay to get a Local number. Otherwise one call out, but no one call back locally/internationally (less USA) on the free number allocated. . The internet cable connectors pose some problems while removing from the device or modem. The quality needs some attention.

I have beeen in the computer and electronic business for forty (40) years and have heard numerous of these types of complaints. I have used MJ from the very first version and all have worked according to specs. Taken items to various countries, utilized and saved myself a small fortune in currencies. I understand those of us who find it difficult to work this product to their best. Please understand, there are various reasons, not related to the product, why your unit may not work at its best, e.g. your internet provision, radio and other electronic waves, placement (near other electronics, where you are using your receiver), remember your cell phone? We should be applauding the CRTC for allowing these products and companies in this counrty saving consumers from other tyrants. I find it very notable, not many are aware of the fight and influence one such company has had on the cell market and what many of these companies had to endure providing their customers with these services. I am about six of the latest models. In these days of "APS" and "WIFI" you better understand your privilleges.

Does the job, still some issues

I've had it for about a month now. It works fine, I'm signed up for the 5 yr deal. The only Con I have was when I was calling BELL, for some reason I would dial the 416-310-BELL number and it wouldn't connect, but would connect if I call 1-866-310-BELL, spoke to the online help and they opened a ticket to investigate, haven't heard anything since, fortunately this is the only number I've encountered this issue. Also they are issues if you placed the person you are speaking to on speakerphone, when they are talking the volume is erratic in that it goes very low for a few seconds at a time and you can't hear them, it happens very often during the call and is very, very frustrating and extremely annoying since I usually have people on speaker while I do other stuff. I've used the online support for this issue and they just put you through the usual useless steps of disconnecting and reconnecting your hardware. Hopefully this issue is rectified somehow because they are no other major issues.

Perfect

Have MagicJack Plus already about 2.5 years and it works great. I am often in Europe and need to call Canada often. Also prepaid "international" calling, so I can call in Europe as well and it is very cheap. Much cheaper then if I used my cell phone and SIM purchased in Europe. Clarity is excellent. Note: I have also 3 years NetTalk Duo, also satisfied, but this review is about MagicJack.

Bought this today. Took about fifteen minutes to set up. Included instructions and web site very easy to use. I am amazed at the quality of this product. You really can't tell any difference between this and our previous landline.

its the best choice for a home phone and its the most economic solution .you can use it anywhere you go if you travel a lot you just need internet and your phone travels with you .you only need to make sure you have an internet package that would provide for the data used by your magic jack.

Manic Jack

This was an awful experience. The set up was a nightmare, their web site crashed several times during the registration process. I've been charged 3 times on my credit cards. Finally I have the phone working after I spoke with 5_6 tech support reps (in India) . I have 2 handsets, when someone calls and I answer the 2nd handset continues to ring :o Now the battle continues to get a refund for the additional charges. PS: despite what their website and manic jack box say, I wasn't able to port my telephone.

Great Product

I have three jacks and both work extremely well. Quality is excellent, never a dropped line. You can also purchase a five year plan for [price] far less than a land line at [price]. With the IOS or Android app, you don't even need the dongle to make calls in Canada or the US in any WIFI zone, just use your cell phone. Moving the magic jack is simple, take it with you anywhere in the world. Great for snowbirds.

Year 2 - have to change phone provider again

My first revue was not posted. I hope that the second one will find it's way. I would not recommend Magic Jack. It actually worked fine for first year, big problems started on year 2. It stopped working with phone sets. I was able to use it on computer, mostly as an answering machine. Things get worse and I am in a processes of changing phone providers. Spent hours on a phone with customer service, they were not able to fix problems.

it worked for about 4 months. the device had some issues after the 4 months, had to talk (chat) to 4 agents before i can get a replacement. and replacement is not free. buyer beware.

Works Perfectly

I went to the website and was shown exactly how to install the Magic Jack. I registered and got our phone number as instructed and all seemed well. I picked up our phone and was told I had an Error. I went to the wensite and started up the live support. The person on the other end assisted me with updating the firmware on the Magic Jack and got me up and runni9ng in No time. The sound is crystal clear and I would recommend this product to anyone. Great support, great price, and no issues.

Magicjack Customer service not so good!!!!

I have been a magic jack user for a number of years and must say easy to use yes improved over the years yes, customer service however awful When my magic jack failed after one of their updates the device became corrupted and no longer useable. Of course the blame was with customer not sure how. I then asked to have my number moved to another magic jack I happened to have and customer service refused suggesting that I get their replacement which of course needed to pay for even though have a new device which they confirmed worked. In short beware of updates and secondly lack of knowledge from customer service when it comes to product troubleshooting has gotten worse as the company has grown. Unfortunate the device has potential but if you have a problem customer beware look else where

Magic Jack not as easy as it seems

I bought the magic Jack and was very excited to get it hooked up. First of all I could not get a confirmation e-mail at my gmail account after several tries. Then I decided to change the email contact another address I have at .net and got the confirmation right away. The set up seemed really basic - I was thrilled - not being very techy. However, once set up, I tried calling my new number and got a message that the customer at that number was not available. Worse than that, when I tried calling my regular number on the Bell network, I got a busy signal. After confirming that no one had been on the line, I have promptly disconnected the magic Jack. I hope to get this resolved and report back more positively.

Works great

We were already old Magic Jack customers but, our little Net-book that it was plugged into would lose it's wifi signal now and then. So, it was a hassle to reboot it every few days or so. So, we decided to get this Magic Jack Go and we were all set up and running in 5 minutes! We just went online and simply transferred our current Magic Jack number to the new Magic Jack Go account. Now that it's hooked directly to our router, we swear the sound quality is even better. They automatically deactivate your old Magic Jack but, still kept the remaining service time and added the extra year that comes with the Magic Jack Go. So, we were very satisfied with this purchase. And, it works great with our cell phones. I thought it only works with cell phones when you have a wifi connection but, I still got a call when I was at work and on a data connection!

Magicjack and Nettalk user

Works great and does the job. I use three of these and they are great. I also use the call forward option to forward to my US number. This is transparent to the caller thinking that I am still in Canada. The only hiccup is that you cannot transfer your existing Canadian number to it. You can do this with Nettalk in Canada and it works great. So if you want to keep your existing number get a Nettalk. If you are looking for help after purchasing any of these devices us their e-mail and FAQ. Most of your questions will be answered on their site. You have to be patient to receive a reply but they do answer your questions.

Can't transfer a Canadian number!

The website says you can transfer your number but not in Canada. I think this is the case with all VoIP providers
