Bad firmware/hardware

This router has a good range and fast speeds. It also has a built in media server which is 90% of the reason I bought it. I'd be pretty happy with it if it didn't loose the connection my pc (wired or wireless) multiple times a week. I have to disconnect and reconnect my lan adapter when the pc wakes up from sleep to get the connection back. There is no issue when I hook up the PC directly to the modem. I've scoured many forums on the subject. Turns out there are many others with exact same same problem and no fix permanent fix (settings, firmware etc). I do not recommend this router.

Great product

Was very easy to set up and install. Great range and speed. Tried to give it 5 stars but the website wouldn't let me. Must be owned by d-link

Stopped working after 3 months

The router stopped working after 3 months. Dealing with customer support was a nightmare. Will never buy Netgear products again.

Sorry Asus

I have had an Asus 66U for several years. The 5G radio on the Asus just died. So I purchased this router based on a recco from a colleague. It's faster than the Asus ever was. (and I saturate my 60Mbps downlink from the Internet) all over wifi. This router is excellent so far. And it's reasonably priced.

Dead after 2 months

It worked great for less then 2 months. Both 2.5 and 5 GHz radio died today, will send it for repair, hoping for good customer service. Very dissapointed for the price I paid.

Great router (reviews dont lie)

Best router Ive had so far. Had a lot of troubles with previous routers. Range was limited, speeds werent as good as the should be and connection would drop regularly. This router fixes all of these issues, best investment so far.

Best router for gaming!

I have tried many routers for gaming and this seems to be the perfect one. The router really does what it says it does.

Super if you're using it to bridge a Hitron cable modem

I bought this because my Xbox One and the Hitron CGN3ACSMR (Rogers) don't play well together (Strict and Moderate NAT no matter what you did). I had to set up up on my phone and not on my laptop. I kept on getting errors on my laptop, but not on my phone, hence why it was set up on my phone. Only after I set it up on my phone, was I able to customize it on my computer. To say that this plays well with my Xbox One is an understatement. It plays more than excellent. It also vastly improved the WiFi in my apartment. It also resulted in my NAT being Open. It's stayed Open ever since.

Netgear R7000 rocks !

I've been using the trusty Netgear R6300 for a coule of years and now was the time to upgrade. My Internet link is 200 Mbps / 30 Mbps and I top it now. Coverage is just about perfect, so far the best router I ever had. Highly recommended

NETGEAR Nighthawk Wireless AC1900 Dual-Band Router (R7000)

Not to bad for setting up, didn't take me all that long. The most important thing was it did what I needed it to do and that was to extend the range of my signal throughout the house. 100 percent satisfied.

  • from Gatineau, QC

Bought second-hand (1.5 years old). Upgrade the firmware, enable ''Smart Connect'' and profit. It is stable, fast and can handle many devices with ease.

  • from Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu

Great router. Supports DDWRT, Advanced Tomato and ASUSWRT-MERLIN. I needed two routers to cover my whole house before I bought this router. Now I only need one. The range on this thing is amazing compared to my old AC router. Beware that the stock firmware really sux if you need good parental control. I needed to be able to set a wifi schedule for multiple devices and it's not possible with the stock firmware. Luckily this router is support by a lot of 3rd party firmware that have great parental control options. Flashing the custom firmware was a breeze too.

Great range

got this unit to address reaching more area and it did the job no need for repeaters. Great value for that.

Stop looking and get the Nighthawk R7000

I owned a competing D-Link product which was fast when it worked and if you were standing next to it but as soon as you were more than 30 feet from it the speeds plummeted. I looked at spending hundreds of dollars on a tri-band router but opted for the Nighthawk R7000 due to the positive reviews and comparisons online. I am not disappointed. this router blankets my house with coverage on both spectrums and is blazing fast. Multiple TV's, laptops, tablets, iPods and phones and the router can handle it all. Multiple devices streaming videos and playing multiplayer online games all without a hiccup. I highly recommend the Nighthawk AC1900 R7000.

Not that great. I ordered after reading reviews but not at all satisfied. Wastage of money.

wicked router

Got it about 3 hours ago. Install was a breeze. Didn't even follow instructions. on a two storied house I went from 225kb/s to 19.7Mbps.Highly recommend this router.

Great router, but with installation issues

Very nice router straight out of the box. But I was unsuccessful when I tried to set up the router after about 10 attempts, following the instructions to the "T". I finally had to call tech support (you won't find their toll free number anywhere in the literature they supplied with the router), and after a few minutes was put through. Apparently there is a known conflict between the Netgear router and my Internet Security Suite, Kaspersky. Kaspersky keeps blocking any communication between the router and modem, seeing the router as some form of threat. Since I had Kaspersky installed on both my desktop and my laptop I was having the same problem with both computers. Luckily I also have a Surface tablet without Kaspersky, so the tech person was able to do a workaround using the tablet and get the router working. However, I can only bring up the Netgear Genie using the tablet, not either of my two computers. A bit inconvenient, especially seeing as both products are supposed to be top of the line. Hopefully Kaspersky addresses this issue. As for the router itself, it appears to be working great, no dropped signals so far and the range is very good. I'm getting a good signal on my patio outside my house about 100 feet from the router, with the signal passing through 3 or 4 walls. If it wasn't for the pain of the installation I'd easily give this router 5 stars, though it probably wasn't the fault of Netgear.

Works Very Well

Works very well with Teksavvy's Hitron model. Easy installation. The installation was quick as well, I was able to connect all my devices to this router in minutes. Great wireless coverage as well. Definitely worth the money.

Clear Installation - Good Signal

I decided to purchase the Netgear Nighthawk in order to boost the signal power of my current Citek router. The installation was easy enough to follow though it did take me a couple tries to get it right (no real fault on Netgear's behalf). So far the signal has been amazing - and we can get signal in areas of the house where we couldn't before. There is a handy online login and control system so you can prioritize video streaming and/or gaming for the router. Couldn't be happier with this choice.

Don't bother with Extender

I got this router in the end, after evaluating all sorts of extender, wasting a lot of time, when I should have just replace the router to get at the source of the problem. Two things were accomplished which the extender cannot offer: 1. strength: extender did not offer the wifi signal strength that this single router could do 2. guest SSID: extender does not allow me to extend guest SSID which is annoying as I do not like to give out my SSID password to all. the router does that with its software. Although I was hoping there would be a bit more features and control but it get the basics done.

Parental controls below expectetions

I wanted to upgrade my old modem with something more powerful but that would also allow me to control my children's devices access to the internet, like my old Linksys did. Well, this modem delivered on signal power but not on parental control. OpenDNS does not allow to set a weekly schedule by device. I ended up returning it and buying a new Linksys. Cheers.

Awesome Router!

I bought this router to replace our old 5 year old router. This router is great. We had a NETGEAR before and we decided to stay with NETGEAR. One of the main reasons is the control over the NAT settings. In our house we have 4 gaming consoles, 2 Xbox One's and 2 Xbox 360's. Due to this it was always difficult to get OPEN NAT on all consoles. Bottom line is the software on the NETGEAR's can and does give us OPEN NAT on all consoles. We had tested an ASUS but it would only give one console OPEN NAT and the others would be MODERATE NAT. So for this NETGEAR is one of the best. The signal is strong across our home and WIFI speed are good. Easy to set up and use. I would strongly recommend.

Very Good Product

This is a very good product for the price. Setup is actually designed for the novices instead of the experts. Just connect as instructed then access from PC and everything is done for you. I tried to config it manually at first as the R7000 was behind my Rogers router but it didn't work as R7000 insists that it should sit in another sub-network than that of the Rogers router. So I reset R7000 several times (I guess I somehow messed the original configuration up) to its factory state till it automatically detects that it's behind the Rogers one. Then I disable the DHCP of the Rogers router as recommended (as both routers don't sit in the same sub-net). My primary router, the Rogers one, is in while R7000 insists to be in You have to let the auto-configuration do the job for you, by resetting the R7000 when necessary. The parental control is a good feature, the filtering is not that precise though. It seems to me that the router also comes with the media server capability but I am not sure if it's DNLA compatible or not. I have yet to try it out.

Good router - Mediocre firmware

The hardware specs for this particular router are quite good for the money, especially if you find the Nighthawk on sale. For me it was between this R7000, and an Asus AC68U. The main downfall of this particular router is the firmware it comes with leaves much to be desired. If you are technically inclined, you can fix this on your own but does come with associated risks. If you're not handy with things such as changing firmware, I'd recommend you spend the extra money and get an Asus AC68U. If you're willing to do warranty voiding things, such as flashing third party firmware, then the Netgear R7000 Nighthawk is the way to go, as it has superior hardware in it and is rock solid with all the bells and whistles of the AC68U. I've been running this unit for approximately 3 weeks, have improved wireless over my old Asus router, and faster wired speeds due to the extra CPU. Overall, a very good router and stability has not been a concern with 100% uptime and no reboots.

Great choice, finally

After moving into a new condo with WiFi everywhere and my old N router getting more and more sluggish, I decided it was time to upgrade. My first choice was a TCP Link Archer c-9, a fairly well rated wireless AC1900 router. installation was good but after awhile i began having connectivity issues and busy channels, signal was dropping. Tried fixed channel and auto config to no avail. Also, I could not get my wireless printer up and running. I returned this router and bought the Netgear Nighthawk AC1900 (R7000) WHAT a difference a router makes !!! Easy installation and rock solid connectivity and my wireless printer worked first time. The remote Iphone app is also easy to use for remote management of this router. This should have been my first choice, I would not hesitate in recommending this wireless router.

  • from Williams Lake, BC

Amazing device for reasonable price.

Incredible range and versatility. Included software is easy to use and packed with features. If you are looking for a mid-high end router, this is the way to go.

  • from Brampton, ON

Absolutely worth the money!

It's only been a couple of days since I setup this new router, and I am more than happy with the purchase! Range: Throughout the 3 floors of my house Speed: Lightening, especially on the 5GHz band Cost: Reasonable for what you really get out of it. Setup: Designed to be simple, unless you get an error like I did. So had to re-do the setup the 2nd time and worked like a charm. Features: Genie app is great, gives good controls and overview. You can even see what devices are connected to your network. If you're on the fence, just go for it!

  • from Spruce Grove, AB

Sticking with this one.

When I went to upgrade my router I tried 2- D Links, 1 ASUS, Took them all back. Poor range, drop outs and messed with my NAS. Bought the Nighthawk, plugged it in and that was the end of my search. Fast, easy setup, reliable and works perfect with the NAS and wireless security cameras. Might be a little big and plasticy, but who cares. Screw it on the wall in the basement and you will be impressed.

  • from MD Foothills

easy install

Never installed an easier router, even if you cannot hook up your computer to the modem you can still install it 1-2-3. Range is good my house is fairly large on two stories and I have reception everywhere.

  • from Halifax, NS

Best router out there

We replaced our older router in our IT class at the college i go to with this. Perfect performance and range, its so good we went and replaced every router in each class with this, never had any issues since then. can handle many many devices connected to it at once without loosing speeds on 2.4 or 5ghz. best router for the money although the stock firmware doesnt have ability to set reservations in dhcp but an update that can be downloaded fixes that. the vlan tagging is a great feature in this router also havnt seen many that have that feature other then the ASUS RT-N66U. anyone wanting superior range and speeds for everyday/home office/gaming use needs this router 10/10 stars.

Excellent router

I have the router for over 3 months, so far, there has been no network drop at all.

Get this now!

Have up to 10 devices being used on 3 separate floors. This includes VOIP connected directly to the unit. All systems are a go. I took off my wireless extender I used previously on the top floor. Definitely satisfactory in terms of the way it performs. Netflix does not hang anymore. My parents use an IPTV and so far has not hanged. I have a USB 3.0 Hard Drive connected directly to it. Easily able to access it. It's fun tinkering with it as well to get it working. Great UI interface.

Fantastic router

When switching providers from DSL to cable I was forced to buy a router and this one has not disappointed. I installed it in the far corner of my basement and it provides excellent speed and range on all 3 floors of our 2050 sq. ft. home. Set up in straight forward and the UI makes it easy to manage setting and controls especially for non-tech guy as myself. I went with this particular unit as it offers two USB ports (one 2.0 and one 3.0) and the ability to set up two additional guest networks. When a USB and external hardrive is connected to the router, files and our printer can be shared between all devices. It also supports Time Machine backups for my Macs. Slightly more money that I wanted to spend as an average user but the incremental investment is justified.

Excellent Router

The ease of installation was what prompted me to write this review! The router looks very stylish and functions perfectly in my home. The range is great and it has no problem giving me service anywhere in my home. It paired well with my Mac, in fact I had no problems at all installing it and setting up the network. It worked well with the external hard drive I have attached to it on the network. The installation process was so easy that after I was done installing it, I was thinking "am I done already?". I was so surprised at how easy, fast and user-friendly the whole process was. The speed of the router is so great, I noticed it immediately after installing it. I think that the price is fair for this product, it does everything that the description says and more! I love it A+++!

What a purchase

I replaced my ASUS RT-N56U with this. What a difference. Amazing product.

  • from Kingston, ON

Replaced my old NETGEAR R6100 with the R7000. It's in my basement of a 2700 sq/ft house and providing me with a strong signal can still pick it up at the bottom of my street. Highly recommended, first router that provided me such a strong signal. Easy to install if it's your first time playing with routers, experience users, obviously a breeze to set up.

Excellent router, Easy Setup. Fast router internal page. 802.11ac on macbook pro retina @ Link speed ~850Mbps. (Router has capacity till 1300Mbps.) Awesome

TRUST ME. This works and works great!

Upgraded from Cisco E3000 and though it did the job, this model of Netgear, blows it out of the water. It covers my 3000 sq ft home adequately without a use of a network extender/repeater. If your in need of a router, spend the money and go with this. TRUST ME.

  • from Burlington, ON

So far so awesome

Loving the router so far, fast, amazing range (I get signal in my neighbours basement). Replaced an rt-n56u which was dropping connection all the time. Great router. It is big though, so make sure you have somewhere to put it.

Netgear Nighthawk R7000

Installation was very simple But changing password and name to be used in our network, was almost impossible. We had to retain its original configuration. We are 19 families condominium like wooden structure, three stories on lake shore. So we needed a router that can reach about 150 feet away on each side of the building. This is one of three we use and it is the most powerful of the three.

  • from Calgary, AB

Good Performance but limited flexibility

Install and configuration were easy and performance is very good. However, advanced configuration options are very limited. One valuable feature - LED colour indicates quality of the connection, unfortunately the placement of the LEDs (on top of the body) can make seeing the colours difficult, unless the device is placed low enough.
