2 to 5 Bars

I set this up at my guest house next door and it provided full!

  • from Dartmouth, NS

Works great for me

I need the Range extender 'cause I have my router in the basement and my room in the 2nd floor. WiFi signal reaches there very weak. I set up the Range Extender very easy, just followed the instructions in the booklet (in english, spanish and french). Like 6 easy steps and took, say, 10 minutes from start to complete the set up. Works great. Note that I just use it to watch in my ipad things like: facebook, netflix or videos. Not to do job related tasks or upload/download huge Gigabytes quantities.

  • from Moncton, NB

Not exactly what I expected

First of all the outgoing signal goes from green to amber to red randomly, while the connection to my modem is solid green (Meaning the connection to my modem is strong and stable) Yet the outgoing signal differs from good, bad and non existent, but I still have a connection that works. Maybe there is a flaw in the outgoing connection indicator. Also my WiFi on the extender is 10 MB slower than on my modem, the box clearly states it can handle up to 300 MB and in the setup process it stated to only do up to around 180 MB (I think) That doesn't add up to the same speeds. The extender is clearly way to sensitive with it's out going connection indicator or there is something wrong with it. (I have all firmware updates) The outgoing signal should be the one with the solid green indicator considering it's the out going signal. How can Netgear give us a product that is supposed to give a good outgoing signal if the actual signal is going from strong to weak randomly? This product was cheap and as far as I can tell you get what you pay for. I have tested the internet speed on the extender and not only is it 10 MB slower than my modem but the upload speed is the same as my modem which is odd because both download and upload should both be lowered if my download speed is lower. The signal strength to my modem is 96% which is near perfect. I shouldn't see a drop in my download speeds with a signal strength like that when my upload speed is exactly the same as my modem. . Maybe a few MB but a full 10 MB drop is huge. My laptop is only 15 feet away from the extender and the laptop has 5 bars of connectivity and that wouldn't be the problem. I have not tested the LAN output yet but I plan too soon so I have nothing to say about that. But I am expecting my speeds to go to the same speeds as my modem since it won't use the outgoing WiFi signal on the extender, but it will have an almost direct connection to modem. I feel as though this is a quick solution to needing your WiFi coverage to be longer range but it's not a permanent solution. I don't expect this product to last very long. I've had it for almost a year now and it has been sufficient enough for my needs but the random outgoing signal strength randomly changing from good to weak is worrying. Overall the product is 'OK' and it will extend your WiFi further away from your modem. If your under a tight budget, I guess it's better than nothing.

Great Product - Our Internet was not sufficient

We bought this in hopes of extending our WIFI range, however Telus provides internet to us, and the highest download speed we have is 6 or less. This extender would not work for us because of our lack of good high speed internet.

So Far, So Good.

I purchased this item yesterday d/t weak signal on the top floor of our three-floor house on older iPads. The WPS setup mentioned in the manual just wouldn't connect to the router after multiple attempts so I had to go the web-based route. No big deal, just that the wireless setup would have been a lot more convenient. I had to connect my laptop to the extender with an ethernet cable for the web page not to be blocked for initial programming. That being said, I now have full bar wi-fi signal on the top floor which I hope continues. So far, so good.

On the fence

Bought this item 3 days ago. Had to go online to setup, but I'm fine with that. Worked well. However this morning, I had to unplug and plug in the unit to get it to pick up the signal. My router was functioning fine. I am cautiously optimistic about this product at this time. Will change my rating depending on how the product continues to function over time.

Net Gear WIFI Extender

Initial hookup was fine when it came to password it did not work. Called the help line a few time never got back to me....... reset it about 20 times but still wont connect.

  • from Calgary, AB

Works as advertised

Extender works as advertised. We now have Wifi in all parts of our house (with a more reliable connection in those areas it was spotty in). Setup took a little longer than I anticipated - had to use the web-based approach, and the instructions were not as clear as they could be - but I finished it in relatively good time.

  • from Winnipeg

Works great, easy set up (read the instructions)

Took less than 15 mins to set up, just follow the instructions and it shouldn't be a problem. The extended range is fast enough for my smart TV to stream 4K video directly from Netflix, other devices (Xbox One, Apple TV) much faster as well.

  • from Whitby, ON

Really good

Set up in minutes with my old DLink 801 g router. My router didn't have WPS so I had to use the very easy web interface. Works great at extending my network to the previous dead zones and I've also used it to create a schedule for my children so it kicks them off the network at 8 PM with the integrated Parental Controls.

  • from Toronto, ON

A great product for the money

I've used the extender for around 6 months now, and I am really happy with it. It maintains the original speed from my main router, and has eliminated all the dead spots. i also use the Ethernet port for my desktop which doesn't have WiFi. That also works really well. It was also extremely easy to set up, taking no more than 2-3 minutes. Overall, I am very happy with the purchase and would definitely recommend it to others.

  • from Brampton

Very Disappointed

Worked great for 1st 6mths then next 6 mths constantly dropped connection, stopped automatically connecting would have to keep resetting to factory and re-set up again. After 1 yr. Finally tried to do a firmware upgrade but now that the warranty is out it won't let me access web page to do firmware upgrade. Apparently there's an upgrade that fixes these issues but no luck accessing login page as web page not found. Tried all troubleshooting suggestions on their site with no luck. Support says my 1yr free support ran out and would have to pay to renew tech support which costs more than buying a new unit. Very Disappointed!!!

  • from Fredericton, NB

Cheap and works great

Devices went from 3 bars to 5 bars with this thing.

  • from BC

Works Well

Bought this unit to extend friend's network to our Motor home when we are visiting. Works very well. Unfortunately there appears to be no way to edit network information to connect to different network. It is necessary to setup network from scratch to connect to different SSID but that is only a minor inconvenience.

  • from Markham, ON

Great product

I am very satisfied with this product. Easy set up and consistent performance since last three week. Would highly recommend. Good value for the price.

  • from New Westminster, BC

Good Extender

Purchased it to complete our wifi network in our home and it does exactly what it says. Covers areas that the original router couldn't reach. Easy to setup if you follow the instructions from the manual.

  • from Kelowna, BC

Good Unit but had been sold to other customer that reconfigured locking me out

Had difficulty setting up as the unit must have been previously sold to customer who set user name and password locking out all configuration attempts until I did Factory Default reset. Best Buy should check and reset returned units to save users hours of wasted time. Once unit was configured it worked great. Good range and reliable operation at least for first few days.

  • from Wawa, ON

Works great, had to configure manually.

  • from Mississauga, ON

works good

Setup by WPS way does not work for mr. I have to use WEP way. How far it could extend the signal is not shown in specification. So far, it is OK for my application. But if reached range could be far a little, will be better.

Not compatible with Bell Home Hub 1000

Couldn't get it to pair up. Tried numerous time. Returned for a refund.

  • from Toronto, ON

Works great, easy to setup

The only hard part is making sure you figure out the right network name, network password and the right URL for the netgear setup Great small device, easy to carry around and really helped extend the range of my mobile wifi hotspot! Excellent value for the price.

  • from Winnipeg

Easy Peasy

This product was easy to set up and made a big difference in my wifi strength and performance. No problems at all with getting it going. Quite honestly don't understand all the people who are saying otherwise.

  • from Dorchester, Ont

Easy to setup works very well

could not get consistent wifi in the living room of our house now getting about 5 MBPS .... this matches the wifi signal I would get standing beside the modem from my ISP. I read the setup instructions twice and setup was easy but I had to use an Ethernet cable (not supplied)......I haven't needed to use one of those in years but luckily I found one in the basement I would buy this product again but I now have wifi everywhere incluinding our deck and porch. I would give it 10 stars if that was possible

  • from Mb

Works great

Quick and simple set up. I used my iPhone to set it up. Took less than 10 minutes. Increased range to the rooms I needed from no signal to full signal strength.

  • from Calgary, AB

Setup could have been simpler, but it works well. I am very pleased.

  • from Tecumseh, ON

Great product

i received my range extender at my door the day after i ordered it . it was probably the easiest installation of a product i have had to do. i plugged it in and it picked up the network and has been working well ever since. not sure how anyone could have a problem with it. as my dad used to say when all else fails read the instructions!

  • from Winnipeg, MB

Great product

Works great! Setup is a little more than just plug and play, but follow the instructions step-by-step, and in 10-15 minutes you'll be good to go!

  • from Gatineau, QC

This item is hard to configuré and in my case was not successful

NETGEAR Universal Wi-Fi Range Extender

Only those who cant read cant setup thing thing. It is extremely easy.

  • from Newmarket, ON

Great product

Ignore the reviews about difficult setup. If you can't set this up in under 10 minutes with the easy instructions provided then you likely need to learn how to read before you try to use any electronic devices. The instructions are VERY clear and concise about how to set it up 2 ways. One is through pushing a button on the extender and a button on the router and letting them communicate. I suggest the MUCH easier way which is to plug it in, use your computer to find the network listed in the instructions, follow the prompts on the website they direct you to and VOILA! it's all ready and working. I had little to no internet in the basement and now I can seamlessly stream Youtube videos on my media player or browse the web on my laptop/tablet with no lag. Best bang for your buck in my opinion! The product features the ability to set a different password for the extender network than the network your router or modem has set. I would recommend this product to anyone who has dead spots in their house for internet access. The LEDs on the front are super easy to read in terms of what they mean. I applaud netgear for making such an affordable product that works as well as it does!

  • from Pitt Meadows, BC

Good product

This product was easy to install and I had it up and running in minutes. So far it has worked flawlessly. I have extended my wi-fi network to every part of my house with no loss of bandwidth. And at a reasonable price.

  • from Toronto, ON

had to call Tech support to configure

Works fine when you get it working. Tried to get it going several times on my own. Called tech support. Very helpful. But took about 45 minutes to painfully configure.

  • from Markham, ON

Great Product

This is my 2nd device and has been using it for the past 6 months now and it works flawless. Never got disconnected from network could be wired or wireless. I would definitely recommend this.

  • from Grand Bend, ON

Works for me

It took 3 tries for it to find my network in the same room as my router but I had it up and running in less than 5 mins, I was impressed by this as I usually do not have a good time with anything techy. Fixed a spotty zone in my house so mission accomplished.

  • from Pemberton B.C.

Now that its set up it works ok.....but....there was some drama in getting it going. I had to call help line and battled for some time. It took many tries and 'resets' before it would work.

  • from Mississauga, ON

NETGEAR Universal Wi-Fi Range

Unit works very well, giving me full strength signal where I need in (in remote sections of my house). Very easy to set up and signal does not crash.

  • from Calgary, AB

Works great

We kept losing the signal upstairs in our house, so purchased this based on reviews. We struggled to set this up wireless, but once it was connected with a cable, the set up was quick and easy. We set this up, works great so far, the phone automatically connects between the normal signal and the extended signal and it isn't being dropped.

  • from Harrow, ON

Works as advertised

It was a bit of a PITA to set up & find the right location, But now I get great signal strength out in the garage & yard. If you're getting iffy Wi-Fi range, this little unit will boost it considerably...

  • from Delta, BC

Netgear Extender

Works great! I now have full signal strength throughout the house and in the back yard. Set up was a bit of a headache with my Linksys Router but I managed to finally connect it after a few attempts.

  • from Nepean, ON

I was having a problem with my wifi reception in my basement where my television is located. My modem is on the second floor and could not be relocated. The extender has improved the situation greatly and watching Netflix is no longer an exercise in frustration. In terms of setup it was relatively simple to get the extender up and operational. In my case the extender has been the answer for my problem.

  • from Tottenham, ON

Still early

Still on the fence with this Extender.... Yes I have a stronger signal but from time to time I lose connection which is frustrating....
