More Information

Get up close and personal
  • There it is, the ultra-rare citrine wagtail! With the 24-70mm zoom range (DX equivalent 36-105mm) you'll be able to capture every detail of this beautiful bird without getting too close and scaring it away.
  • The Silent Wave Motor ensures autofocus happens quickly and quietly, so the citrine wagtail searches for food, unperturbed, while you adjust focus for the perfect shot.
  • If you were somehow able to get really close to the citrine wagtail (perhaps you have innate ninja skills?), you could use the lens's closest focusing distance of 0.38mm (at 50mm) to get an incredible close-up shot.
  • Enjoy unbeatable edge to corner sharpness when compared to fixed focal lenses.
Amazing imagery
  • Capturing images of the citrine wagtail is a once-in-a-life opportunity so you're grateful for the lens's ED glass, which helps minimize chromatic aberration and helps create accurate colours.
  • If your camera's autofocus isn't getting the job done, or you prefer to be totally hands-on, you can take advantage of the instant manual focus override.
Other things you'll want to know
  • The rubber mount seal provides professional-grade dust and moisture resistance, so you won't have to worry when you're slogging through the marsh as you chase the citrine wagtail.
  • Slim and lightweight design
  • Includes a detachable hood and soft pouch (CL-M3)

8 years on - still great

the better part of 10 years since its release this lens is still brilliant. Goes to show that buying good glass will last you a very long time and there is no need to change it, just change the camera. I wonder if Best Buy will carry the VR version of this lens ever.

Your mileage might vary

It'd be hard to argue that this lens isn't sharp, focuses fast or has a very useful range. However, given it's size an weight, unless you don't mind getting carpal tunnel, you may want to think about whether you'd like this much weight on your shoulder/forearm.. It's a personal choice. I liked the versatility of it, but thinking it through pragmatically decided a faster prime, like a 28 1.8 was more suitable to how I use my camera. Your experience might be different. There are rumors of Nikon releasing an updated version (lighter, with VR) of this lens in the relatively near future, so you may want factor that in too, especially given the price. As an aside: the delivery times stated by BestBuy website are optimistic to say the least. I waited over one week to get mine, and I'm in a major city, so the location certainly wasn't the issue. This is of course, at least partially, a CanadaPost problem, although the package wasn't provided to CP for a couple of days. Just in case you need the lens right away, adjust your expectations accordingly.

the best mid-zoom lens ever from NIKON

I don't understand why people rate this lens so low but this is the best mid-zoom lens from NIKON ever. Yes, it's expensive but it's worth every single penny if you can afford it. Using this with my D7000 and it works just perfect and picture quality is blowing my mind!!!

Awesome Lens!

I'm not sure why people are rating this lens so low. This is Nikon's best mid range voom lens. The build quality is excellent, it is super sharp, and focuses close. The bokeh is very nice and it's maximum aperature is 2.8.
