More Information

With a metallic shriek your fighter zooms through the launch tunnel and soars into the inky blackness of space. You tilt your head and quickly take stock of the situation: enormous carrier ships drift slowly below and on your right -- are those enemy fighters? Lasers rake across your shields and you jam the stick hard, veering away from enemy fire. You line up a fighter in your sights and your autocannons chatter as tracers streak through the void, turning the enemy into a blossoming fireball.

When the battle is over you take off the Oculus Rift headset and give yourself a few seconds to get reacquainted with reality. It almost feels strange to look around and see the familiar confines of your living room instead of the tight, futuristic structure of the fighter's cockpit. Playing the virtual reality space combat game felt so real you almost forgot you were sitting in a chair at home. In fact, it felt so immersive you can't wait to jump back in. With a grin you slip the Rift headset on and leap back into the heat of battle.

Why you need this:

  • PC required: The Oculus Rift requires a PC with certain minimum specs. Please see the "Required hardware" section below.
  • Incredible visuals: 2160 x 1200 resolution (1080 x 1200 per eye), a 110-degree field of view, and 90Hz refresh rate combine to create an immersive visual experience you need to see to believe.

  • Removable audio arms: Enjoy the freedom to use your own headphones, if you prefer.
  • Oculus Home: Explore a wide (and ever-growing) selection of games, movies, and experiences. Endless worlds await.
  • Controllers: The Rift includes an Oculus Remote for basic controls. It's compatible with the Xbox One controller (included), as well as the Oculus Touch controllers (available late-2016).

Better than expected. Ok, blown away!

I was hesitant after reading concerns about tracking quality and field of view. For tracking - it's pretty much flawless. I've used Kinect, Move, Wii-mote and there's no comparison. If you see demos with the screen showing what the player is seeing, there's definitely a very slight delay but that isn't the case when you're actually wearing the headset. It feels spot on. I started with 3 sensors so can't speak for 2 sensor setups but my tracking is never lost and I"ve even crawled and put my face pretty much on the floor with no glitches. As for field of view, sure it doesn't cover your entire peripheral view. But does it make it NOT feel like VR? No way. Those crying about fov being an actual deal good is fov on a 27" monitor? But those monitors do fine for gaming and people don't seem to be overly concerned that they don't have their entire peripheral vision covered. Same goes for a big TV so many feet away. Granted this is VR but I'm just saying that the field of view being limited doesn't wreck the experience. It's still very immersive and quite "real" and just as you don't focus on your monitor or TV's fov as you play, you shouldn't be bothered by it on the current VR headset.

A Must Try Experience!

VR has to be one of the coolest new techs Ive seen in a number of years, it really changes the gaming and movie watching experience. I would recommend everyone at least try VR once, and if your like me that wont be enough. Would totally recommend.

Pretty great!

The only trouble I have with this product is losing tracking in some instances. I take both sensors and set up each in diagonal corners and setup 360 tracking. It works really well but I do run into some tracking issues here and there. Not enough to really complain about but if you only setup the sensors in front of you then I suggest you do the 360 setup instead so you can reach behind you to pick up items and to be able to turn around physically in games. Also, your ankles can become a dead zone if you don't setup the sensors right. You will need a lot of room for the 360 setup tho. I take over an entire living room to play so it's not convenient to own unless you have your own space for it. I take down and setup each time I play.

Oculus Rift

Absolutely amazing. This is a must see, or feel experience. The vr experience is immersive, your senses totally go along for the ride. When you stand over a cliff in Google Earth it literally is too close to the edge. Watching your wing tip when you roll past a planet as you chase enemy craft in Eve Valkyrie is something you just don't get to do every day. My 27 year old son and his friend came over for dinner yesterday, I let them try the vr set and we lost them for the evening, it is addicting. My wife is a fan too so not just young guys... Everyone who has tried the vr is amazed. Three D is neat, this is mind blowing, not just for games but the learning potential is incredible, Should you get one, If you have the funds, check it out...really! Setup is fairly straight forward, it is well designed and wears comfortably. I also purchased the Grip controllers in a package deal. They are great too, you actually get virtual hands rather than the controller. Both included quite a few software titles. I'm blown away, and I am no spring chicken, if you get my drift.

WOW just WOW

Got the RIft for over a month now and i can still say its pretty amazing experience every time I use it. Just make sure you have a great graphics card for the pc (atleast a gtx1060) and this thing will blow you away. It comes with some free games/experiences in the Oculus store so definitely makes this worth getting over the ps vr if you have both a pc and ps4 like myself. Also don't forget to buy the oculus touch to go with it otherwise it wont be as immersive. You can also play all Steam VR and non VR games on the Rift which makes it the best platform for VR at the moment. I definitely recommend the RIft if its your first go at VR gaming.

Must Have!!!

This product is awesome and is exactly what every gamer needs. I do recommend that you check the compatibility checker before buying one, other wise the excellent computer that you think you might have may not work when connected. Thanks Best Buy for the in store demo made my choice right then and there.

Incredible experience...even with the demo

Just bought the OR today and after a bit of setup I'm totally impressed. As I'm use to 2k & 4k gaming on my PC I was concerned it wouldn't be that great. The immersion level is completely over the top though and the resolution is totally acceptable... If you are on the fence about getting one...just do it...if you have the PC to run that is. I will also be buying a cool VR app called Vorpx that will allow me to run nearly all my favorite games I already own on my PC in VR. This is definitely the future of gaming and entertainment.

Get a taste of the future! And.. that's now!

I have been a geek all my life. Waited since the 80's for an awesome VR experience.. wait no more. Sure, it's not 4k gaming, but know what? The immersion is worth it alone. Fantastic quality, awesome games (dead and buried, superhot just to name a few) are worth it! But, DO spend the extra for the touch controllers. A true VR experience absolutely needs them. I run them in a good Pc with a 1080 card, and it's smooth as butter. My kids have a blast with them too! Vr movies (ahem.. adult ones) are something else too ;)

if its not working best buy doesnt care

only after you bought it do you find out that you cant return it if doesnt work(they dont tell you that while you paying for it).you have to deal with oculus which is a painful process . its been a week and half and 15 emails i still got a bricked headset....just keep that in mind if you buy it from best buy

Great Product

Great VR experience, works like a charm. I also have the Gear VR (paired with a S7) , image quality is about the same, but games are allot smoother on the Rift. Giving this 4 stars for 2 reasons. First of all, the Touch controllers should be included in the kit, and second, the Xbox wireless controller won't keep its sync.

This sucks

I hate the Oculus rift it is complete trash, i have the best computer but it still won't work even though i bought 3 different top of the line computers. I hate it and i still don't get a refund. I disliked that it was a complete waste of money.

Wonderful Product

This is V R as it is meant to be. Worth every penny. I recommend it without reservation. Just make sure that your windows PC has the required hardware necessary to support it, Installation is simple. I recommend purchasing the Virtual desktop app from the oculus store..There are a number of other very nice V R apps available from the Store. I also use the headset now to view movies and many other programs on my PC in lieu of my monitor.

Oculus rift review

I wasn't too sure how VR would be. After watching lots of videos on you tube and tones of research I decided to go with the oculus rift. Nothing you can watch will ever be able to describe what VR is like with the oculus. It is incredible! I highly recommend the rift to anyone wanting VR. Also I had an AMD fx 8350 chip from 4 years ago and it works fine. You don't need the intel. Make sure you check your computers specs . Some of the games I've tried are so immersive it's unreal....can only imagine it will only get better.

Oculus Rift Compatibility Check

I was thinking about purchasing the Oculus Rift but the compatibility checking software keeps getting removed by Norton. You might want to look into this as you are probably losing a lot of sales as a result.

Incredible is a word that doesn't do it justice!

I was part of an earlier online Pre-Order, receiving the Oculus in June this year. It's 1000x better than I expected it to be! VR environments that immerse you into gaming, 360 photos and videos, and even television. An Apollo 11 Mission was a cinematic wonder, reminding me of Disney rides we've been on in Florida. It actually looked like we were on that rocket to the moon, a pen floating by my face when we hit zero gravity. Now imagine watching anything on tv via the Free Bigscreen app... Except you're watching it on an IMAX size screen as you sit not in your Rec room, but another planet, moons in the horizon. VR environment, massive screen, and the sound...the sound is incredible thru the built in headphones! We walked thru Machu picchu in one of the 360 videos... It felt like you were there. I don't have the words... You're immersed in whatever you choose to play or view... This is a Must have and I can't wait to see how this grows in the coming years.
