Hard to Set Up

Ok. Let's start at the beginning. 1. First, you only need to plug the adapter cord into a USB 3.0 to run a blu-ray CD. You DON'T need to also plug into a 2.0 USB to make the blu-ray player work. 2. Second...go to the web address provided in the instructions and download the "Pioneer Utility" software. 3. Thirdly...you need to install the accompanying CD software on your computer/laptop. Restart your computer. 4. Fourthly...Once that is done you NEED to do a software update. This is for the new codes for the blu-ray player. So once the software is installed off the CD and computer restarted, put in a Blu-ray movie, try to play it, and it will ask to do an update. DO THIS. Then you will be able to play blu-ray movies. My laptop came with no media software to play DVD's or Blu-ray's so I needed the accompanying CD software and update. You DON'T need to "upgrade to 16.0" software for 54.95. Just click on the update button to update the CD software. It sounds confusing, but once I figured it out, including a trip to the store for geek squad, and playing dvd's with VLC, I found I needed the accompanying CD and software (including update) to play Blu-rays. That's it! 2 stars off for ease of installation and poor instructions. (ie. you don't need to plug in both USB plugs to run the player. Just the 3.0).

No Problem with Mac

Excellent product! I was able to watch Blu-ray movies on my iMac with this player by downloading a free app from the Apple App Store. The only downside is that it requires two USB ports to connect to your computer.

Worls perfectly

I haven't done everything with it, played DVDs, Blu rays , ripped CDs and DVDs, worked fast and efficiently, easy to install software, laptop recognised it immediately , Windows 10, used the 3.0 USB only, the software Cyberlink, has limitation it's not complete, you have to purchase more if you want more edit work on videos and stuff, but it's enough for basic work, the drive is perfect no flaws whatsoever and fast.

Exactly as Needed

I bought this player due to a need for a disc drive since it has become standard for newer laptops to not have any internal drive included. I figured, "Well, since I also have Blu-Rays, I may as well get a BD Drive instead of just a DVD Drive." So I did. This product does everything for current disc reading purposes. I haven't done any disc writing yet (nor do I foresee any circumstance where I need to), but the drive reads CDs, DVDs, and BDs just as advertised. Even though it does require a USB 3.0 socket, it also works on 2.0 sockets just fine (just that some features are apparently missing, haven't tried it out so I wouldn't know which). The drive also comes with a disc for Cyberlink Media Suite 10, which has individual programs that allow you to read and write discs of all varieties. You'll want to insert this right away to at least play those Blu-Rays. As for flaws, it does make a lot of noise but it also comes with instructions for installing some software to manage how fast the discs spin, along with an automatic noise reduction for when it doesn't need to read the disc. Also, at first glance the wire just looks weird because both the 2.0 and 3.0 connectors share the same wire. However, it didn't take me long to figure that you only need to use one. Overall, a great product. I use this on my Windows 8.1 laptop, and it works perfectly. Would recommend to anyone, as it's worth every penny.

Mac Compatible?

I got this one for my MacBook Air and although it is Mac compatible, you need 2 USB ports to use and on the Air there is only 1 USB port per side, so to use it to it's maximum capacity you need something to extend the USB to the other side.

So far so good

A quick, easy install, burned disks flawlessly (so far) and a very decent price. It is early yet, but in the first month, I am impressed. I bought this model for reliability and that's what I expect.

Reliable

The time to write reviews is after 6-12 months of constant use. That's when units show their failings, especially in burning. However, knowing Pioneer I would just say I trust it as the most reliable brand on the market. It will read and write where others fail. They have always paid attention to stability of disc rotation. Also have some plugins to help correct reading errors. However I was not able to install their Drive Utility plugin in my W8 notebook, it could not recognize the drive. But apparently that's irrelevant for general use, only for music CDs.
