Great quality for great price

My first Pioneer receiver was an SX-2900 model, purchased in November of 1991. Then I bought my second Pioneer receiver in June of 2015, a VSX-824-K, because it supported 1080p/60 video and Apple AirPlay. My third and latest Pioneer receiver is a VSX-1131 model and I bought it because it supports everything that the previous one does plus 4K video. In the future, if I ever need support for 8K video it is very likely that I will buy another Pioneer receiver. I have never had a problem with my receivers, they are feature-rich, reliable, and of very good quality. On top of all that, BestBuy also promotes flash-sales with excellent prices for this type of equipment. Thanks, BestBuy.

Sound quality isn't that great and USB port stopped working.

I originally bought the Onkyo 656 but had to take it back because it stopped working correctly. I thought it sounded great however. I thought this Pioneer would be almost the same receiver since the specs are so similar and since Onkyo and Pioneer are now the same company Well, let me tell you, the Onkyo sounds WAY better. This receiver is way too warm sounding in addition to having over the top bass. No matter how I configured the settings, everything just sounded bass heavy with a very muddy midrange. Just terrible overall. The Onkyo 656 was so clear and crisp by comparison and yet managed to still have great bass. I'm going to return this Pioneer unit and try again with another Onkyo TX-NR656 and if that doesn't hold up, Im giving up on Pioneer and Onkyo forever and just sticking with Yamaha (which they don't sell at BB anymore) or Dennon.

Remote Died - Rating is for Poor Service from Geek Squad

The remote for this unit died a couple of months after I bought it. I had purchased the Geek Squad Protection Replacement Plan so I went back to Best Buy store where I bought to get it replaced. The Geek guy told me they would order a new remote and let me know when it arrived. A couple of days later, I got a voice mail saying Pioneer doesn't make the remote anymore, so they could not get a replacement. Sorry about that. That's was it! That's what I get for buying a Protection Replacement Plan? I called them back and was told again they were sorry but all they could offer was possibly a universal remote as a replacement. Based on my experience with universal remotes this was unacceptable. So I called Pioneer directly. They told me this was a 2016 unit so it was very doubtful that they no longer make the remotes. I was transferred to the parts department and was told they had over 600 remotes in stock! All they required was proof of purchase and they would ship one right out to me. So Geek Squad were basically useless. I paid for the Protection Plan for and still had to do all the leg work myself. Very poor customer service.

Excellant Receiver

I have been a Pioneer fan now for over 20 years. I have my own Home Theater. I started with regular stereo, went to 5.1 and then to 7.1. About 7 years ago I purchased a Pioneer's Elite receiver and enjoyed many years of great sound. I wanted to expand into the Dolby Atmos, DTS-X and 4k HD without breaking the bank. I bought this receiver at Best Buy in December and I am thrilled at the performance, Even so it is an entry level receiver and lower priced than the Elite series I purchased several years ago, it still out performs the older outdated model. The sound is powerful and clear. With the seven HDMI inputs and 2 outputs I was able to hook up all my equipment with room to spare. Whether it is Blu Ray, 4k, or 3D , I can watch and enjoy the superb audio and picture on my big screen TV or projector. There is no need to run separate wires anymore. This unit does it all with excellent performance. I am completely satisfied. The DTS-X firmware upgrade was simple. The receiver did it all with a push of a button when hooked up to the internet.

Good receiver with annoying idiosyncrasies

This is an excellent receiver at a very good price point that supports 4K, ARC, DTS:X. It has a simplified remote that I like a lot (previous Pioneer remote had about a hundred buttons), and an easy room acoustic setup. BUT it has some odd annoyances that I'm not so happy with. My previous Pioneer receiver displayed the audio format, this one shows the volume and input on the front panel. You have to push a remote button to show the audio signal format temporarily. I'd rather it show the audio format (DD, DTS, etc.) as a default display. The receiver also takes a second or two to handshake and lock on the audio format, so you lose the first couple of seconds of anything you start playing through it. And there is a loud mechanical click from inside the receiver whenever you change audio formats to DD, Dolby Surround, DTS:X, etc. If you can put up with those, then this receiver is recommended.

Zone 2 Description not accurate

The description indicates zone 2 audio and video. Yes, you can have two separate audio sources, but zone 2 video will be the same as what is what is playing in zone 1, can't have two different video sources in each zone. So, you can't be watching Netflix in one room and DVD in another as the description indicates.

Zone 2 video not as described.

You cannot watch two different video sources in the main or 2nd zone with this unit as the BB description states! 2nd zone video has to be the same as the main zone. Still a nice unit, but borderline false advertising by BB.
