Broken in 3 years

No longer working after 3 years of use. Pioneer does not warrant the receiver even though the root cause of the problem came from their end by using a defective component. You can google this issue online.

Excellent product

Have owned for four months. Musically very good, on par sonically with my Marantz SR5011. Excellent DAC. The front display is a very nice feature, especially when listening to web radio like The Jazz Groove. Excellent with Blu-ray movies, dynamics handled well. The MACC made an immediate improvement in my room. Overall I couldn't be happier, outstanding value, and I haven't even tried the phono stage yet. Speakers are by Monitor Audio.

Was is the market for a new receiver, was searching around and finally decided on this one. I am blown away, this receiver is truly amazing, from picture quality to sound quality. It also depends on what your pairing with. I hooked it up to the energy ps-500 speaker system with the Polk audio sub psw-10. And the quality of sound I'm able to produce through music, movies and games is unbelievable! Everything is realistic, can shake the place apart if I wanted to. Crisp bass and beautiful highs. So if your pairing it with some klipsch or polk audio towers or anything around that type of quality it will be beyond satisfying. And the features on this receiver is crazy! From wifi, Bluetooth, airplay. It has all the bells and whistles. So happy with my purchase.

ideal unit for my projector tv.

Bout this unit on sale. It was delivered two days before advertised. Setup was easy. So nice to be able to run all my components straight through the amp instead of patching back off the tv. Works great for my projector tv.

Perfect AV Receiver for my condo

First, the On-Screen Display (OSD) is great. The sound is great, especially after calibrating the speakers using the provided mic and running the automated program. Speaker levels set and sounds perfect. The Bluetooth works well and is easy to setup. I cannot get Google Cast to work and there seems to be no support for it. I have a Google Pixel XL and my wife as a Google Nexus 6P; neither device can find this receiver as a "cast" device, as such I haven't been able to use it. It was easy to connect to my home wireless and instantly I received an update to get the latest firmware. Nice. I haven't connected to any other internet music services like Pandora or iHeart Radio but I suspect it is fine. (Google Play Music would be great if you're taking suggestions) The unit handles 4K with deep colour to my projection system without issues. Lots of inputs for XBOX, Laptop, PlayStation and Cable Box. Nicely done, highly recommended.

Makes a great stereo

I wanted a 2 channel sound system for my main living area. Disappointed with the selection of micro systems, I opted to get an AV receiver and a pair of bookshelf speakers. I picked the VSX-831 up on sale and here are my thoughts: The technical features are great. For my needs, the pioneer allows you to specify two channel output so you're not always putting it in stereo mode when switching between inputs. I paired this machine with a set of Polk RTIA1's and am very pleased with the result so far. I was able to set the frequency filter to 50 hertz - the low end of the dynamic range for the speakers. Power seems adequate. Although the break-in period for the speakers is not over yet, this set-up gives a good first impression. Mind you, I don't consider myself a true audiophile. Indeed, the space I have this setup in is less than Ideal. I have this set up in an open concept living area where I wanted the sound system to have a subtle physical presence and a large audible one. I didn't want surround speakers and a sub but I wanted high quality and clarity of sound. This setup fits the bill completely. Its a big space and not a perfect rectangle by any means. I'm still tweaking the orientation and balance of the speakers - but even default settings with the speakers oriented slightly inwards sounds pretty darn good. The connectivity options are stellar. When used with my Ipod touch and wi-fi network, the airplay feature and the iControlAV5 remote app work really well. You have a convenient sound system for the ipod without the proximity limitations of Bluetooth and bonus additional control over the receiver itself. If you don't want to use a mobile device - the built in internet radio and FM radios work great too. you can scroll through internet radio menus on your tv - its intuitive and works really well. It all sounds great. Obviously without tower speakers and a sub-woofer its not a party setup but I get great clarity even at low volumes where previously I was cranking up my TV and listening to a blaring unpleasant sound. This is a large space and the entertainment center is not the focal point, but helps to create a more pleasant atmosphere and the sound system is an important piece of that. I would say it ended up being pricey even with sale prices but I knew I wouldn't be happy with low powered speakers in this space and after having set this up I absolutely recommend.
