Great Idea But Needs Good Internet

This doorbell is a great idea. Looks nice and the ring part works great. There are issues though with how fast it connects which I think is probably related to my poor internet speed. People are often walking away before I can get the video to appear on my phone; especially if i don't have it in my hand.

NOT for Canada

Ring lists under tech specs for a (wired!) version: Operating Conditions: -5°F to 120°F (-21°C to 48°C) The last time I checked, we had way below in Canada than -21C. BestBuy Canada - and how do you look when you omit that fact?

  • from Toronto

Beware of no warranty and purchase protection

Installed and used the doorbell for a month without issue, however it stopped working right after we paid the monthly fee for recording. We called ring customer services about the connection issues but still not working, so we asked if warranty will cover and exchange for a new one. Customer service refused and claimed that RING would not honor warranty nor any protection plan for products bought from third party retailer. This is ridiculous as bestbuy website advertised that 1 year warranty was included.

They should just remove these 720's from the stores

I have one of these and have to say they're not only not good but they're bad for "Ring's" reputation. -The video, even with one of their extenders, is poor. NOT as good as 720p usually. -Camera doesn't turn until people are walking away from your door far too often. -If you have a porch that's higher than street level then you will have a hell of a time getting your setup right. -Depending on where the sun crosses you camera view you could get a lot of false alarms or washout picture. -Some times for no reason, you just get a black screen. -If camera isn't working and you're away from home, you're screwed. They need to create a method for you to reset from your phone. For example, I click button on my phone that triggers something on Ring's servers that sends a resets signal to my doorbell. Anyway, there's more to complain about but I'm sure you get the point.

Ring Wi-Fi Video Doorbell

Easy install and set up. Also purchased the companion plug and play chime, which was also easy to set up. First five days, works like a charm. Hopefully I get 15 years out of this one, like the phone line enabled door bell it replaced.

RING Video Doorbell

Good product, easy to install to existing doorbell wiring. Can call RING to get a free kit to change angle of camera depending on where your existing doorbell button is mounted. The monthly rate to be able to save video is a lot cheaper than another camera I have.

Works Great

Really good. Just be ware that you need an upload speed > 1Mb for it to work good. I had to upgrade my modem to switch to higher upload speed. otherwise works as described. Very easy installation

Button gets stucked with sunlight

Bought one of this last winter and installed at my front door that faces west. Couple of weeks ago I came to my house to find a strong smell of burned copper (that smell you get when something electrical gets burned). My 2 chimes (ding-dong type) and doorbell transformer were completely burned out because this Ring doorbell heated up and thermally expanded to continuously press down the button giving constant power to the chimes/transformer. When the sunlight finally started hitting the Ring doorbell at a direct angle at the front porch, this device couldn’t take it. Do not recommend.

  • from Toronto, ON

Wide angle is great. Too bad no backlighting. face look too Dark

I got this on sale. Too bad this doesn't have backlighting and because it is 180 degrees field of view it pick up the light from the sky and the person face look black. You have to buy a spotlight and turn it on when motion detected to solve that issue which cost another bucks. Too easy for theif to steal this thing. Sound on it is very good. Loud and clear. Too bad the video log doesn't show a thumbnails of the objects or person u have to download or stream it before to see who is at the door. hope it add a thumbnails option later on next update. The annual or monthly fees is not too expensive but other products is free of cloud storage and cheaper.

Not for Edmonton winters

Battery needs charging frequently and if it gets below -15 you are out of luck for a doorbell

  • from Toronto

Ring doorbell good at first

After a year there's a monthly fee to see pst events. No ones going to answer every movement. Rip off for the company to make you pay a monthly fee after purchasing a product which isn't cheap. Would look to another product if I could return it.

ring door bell on my front door

I bought this product 1 week ago and i felt very very satisfied with this doorbell. one day, a postman delivered a thing in our house i was at work at that moment and i heard ring on my phone i pressed the talk button on my ring apps and talked to the postman and told him leave the thing in front of our door. I like this product very much that i can see who's knocking on my door.

  • from Toronto, ON

good if you pay monthly fees only

PROS: - very good image - I didn't have any lags problems. It takes 2s to ring in my phone - very good app (android) CONS: - The battery is a joke in the winter. 1 week and my battery is 60%. (that's because I use wired... If you want to use in battery-only mode, I really don't suggest this device in Canada... *I live in TO) - Live View only works 20% of the times that I try... - Monthly fees OR no records at all. My live view does not work well but at least I can see the record later... But after 30days of free trial I wont be able to see anything recorded. They should at least include a 1day free clippings... If you don't pay the monthly fee, I think you should considerer another solution...(I can't suggest anything because I don't know other brands)

  • from Montreal

Battery last 6-12 months more like 6-12 weeks

If it's wired to the chime and as power it's good but the wifi receptor sucks. If you have it on batteries it's horrible if you are lucky it sends you a message saying that the batt is low of not well you get knocks on the door when you are away and your wife and kids are home alone and can't see who's outside. I would not buy this again

Try a different product

This won't stay connected to the network, the video quality is too poor to be useful, and the motion detection is pointless. It's hardwired for power and I bought a powerful router, but this unit doesn't stay charged enough to maintain a good connection. That's probably because the motion sensor activates every time a car passes. That's because a person, walking directly towards the unit, will not activate recording until the last second. Even then, the first few seconds of the video are useless; a person can stride to my door, check it, walk away, and I'll have a blurry recording of someone leaving. I know there are settings for the motion detector, and I phoned support for advice. However, vehicles moving across the frame beyond the end of my driveway are far, far more detectable than a person walking directly toward the unit. This makes it pretty much impossible to establish a good setting because I need it to be more sensitive to people, but less sensitive to cars. Or, I need to put the doorbell where people walk at right angles to it, rather than directly toward it: not very practical. I'm writing today because my security cameras caught a prowler in broad daylight, but my Ring Doorbell recorded only blackness. I have recordings of cars passing a few moments before and after, but the unit malfunctioned in the moment that I needed it. Again. Every week I see a only a still frame or just blackness. I have recordings of people checking my perimeter, but the quality is too poor for good identification. Good doorbell, though.

Works OK - Does Not Like Cold Weather

Great idea but has issues. Cold weather kills the battery (even when its hooked up via the doorbell wires). In Northern Alberta I'm lucky to get a week before I have to recharge it. Another issue is that when I'm not home it takes so long to connect to my phone, that the delivery person has walked away. Video quality is OK and I get to watch the delivery person long after they have left. It does do a good job of recording and that is easy to view from the app.

The Ring Doorbell

Not happy at all. The Ring does not hold its charge in cold weather, even when hard wired to house. It needs a wifi booster to work when it does have a charge. Customer service was contacted and they did say that it will not work in extremely cold conditions so I am asking why they would sell it in Canada.

  • from Rothesay, NB

The doorbell freezes solid!!!!!! You also have to pay for recording. The battery lost 20% in a few days? The back bracket is a cheap piece of plastic that will not last for long. This should not be sold in cold climates!

  • from Mississauga

Piece of Garbage/Waste of money

Where do I start. First the motion works when someone approaches the house 20 feet away and sometimes it picks up the person when they are at the door. Other times it picks up vehicles driving by, which are 30 feet away. Which means that the phone/app sends you a notification which is annoying. I have attempted to adjust the distance in the app but to no avail. I'm frustrated with this product. I also purchased the ringer. Attempted to change the ringer. But it keeps coming back to the default ringer. FRUSTRATING!!!!

  • from Calgary

Not for canada

It works until winter. Now that it's is cold the battery dies every two days. Not good

  • from Mississauga, ON

Works Great

Simple and easy to set up and connect to home network. Picture is very clear and you are able recognise anyone at your door or coming up to your door in live view mode. The fish eye view from camera is a bit weird but nothing that you cant deal with and does not affect picture quality. One issue that is not front and centre is that for the first 30 days you get free cloud recording. After 30 days you must pay for the cloud storage. I haven't had mine for over 30 days yet but my assumption is that after 30 days you still get motion and door Bell ring notifications but it will not record it for you unless you subscribe to cloud storage. The app works great on android or apple devices. I would give this 5 stars if it had even a little storage included with the app. Not sure if there are any products with storage included but this product well built and of good quality.

  • from Newmarket, ON

Not impressed

Surprise this product has such a high rateing. Installation is straightforward. Product demands a good to high Wi-Fi signal. You may have to change your router or add an extender. Even when product is hardwired you are still required to frequently charge the battery. Once you have jump through these hoops the motion detector will detect cars driving by. Tech support is excellent but product is fauled. Audio is excellent video is less than mediocre.

  • from Toronto, ON

Find another option

THis product is a disappointment. Firstly I have very strong wifi and the unit is within 5 feet of a router. However video quality is terrible. The motion detection doesn't work...sometimes it picks up street traffic even though I have it set to record motion only within 5 feet. At other times it detects no motion even when there is someone at my door. The battery after 2 days is already at 80% and I suspect it will need recharging within 8-9 days.I very rarely write reviews but my great disappointment given the price of this makes me want to recommend others consider if this is product will really meet their needs. Personally I wish I just bought a plain old standard doorbell. All these connected features seem to work on a sporadic basis.

  • from Mississauga, ON

Excellent door bell

Glad that I purchased this product. Easy installation, amazing picture quality and quick response time! Importantly, it doesn't require strong WiFi signal to deliver the good picture quality. This product is worth the price.

  • from Cochrane, AB

Kind of Dissapointed.

I purchased two of these cameras, one to act as a doorbell hooked up to my hardwired doorbell system and another to act as a motion camera a the front of the house. Ring states the battery will last 6 - 12 months! What a pile of crap that is. I charged the battery up first night, and after just a few activation's and live viewing the battery was already down to 25%. Granted it was cold outside but really, one day! Even connected to the hardwired system, it seems to charge up extremely slowly. Video quality appears average at best. They say it's 720p quality but really it's more like 480 quality. I will probably keep it now that I've attached it to my house but for the price, I was expecting much more! Oh and just to add insult to injury, it came with only french instructions! Come on Best buy and ring, No English instructions???

  • from Burlington, ON

Ring Doorbell

I purchase this as you would be able to record on your phone and review any items. Ring Cloud was stated as an option. Guess what - its the only option and you have to pay for it - monthly or yearly. Only way to use it properly is by subscription cost. If you get to your phone fast enough - you can see who just took that box off your porch - but you can provide a file for the police! What's the point - just to get your money?!?!

  • from Red Deer, AB

Really feel customers should be warned about throwing their money away on this products failure. Received a Ring Doorbell as a birthday gift at the beginning of Oct 2016 and while the idea is great this produce does not deliver. Here is why.. 1) despite being hardwired in I have had to remove it and recharge it overnight about every two - three weeks. Living in Canada I believe the cold weather is an issue as the frequency of the needed recharges has increased as the temperatures go down?? Call center advises the hard-wiring only recharges 10% preday. 2) The most important feature of reviewing the missed activity only works after the first month if you pay a monthly or annual fee. Its not a large amount but many cameras in this price range normally coming with memory or a memory slot option to deliver this feature for free. It just feels like a money grab, I am sure they need it to keep their call center going. 3) If you live on a street with traffic you must dial the motion sensor range back to near minimum to prevent every car, truck and bus from setting it off. The call center advise it sees heat more then motion. This adds to notification delays and the ability for the unit to work as expected. 4) Delays in the system partly due to the previous point and the speed of the system result in the notification coming too late for you to answer the door as shown in the advertisements for the product. In the two months I have had the product I have not once been able to get to the person at the door before they have left!! Our home's wifi is not the issue as we run 150M service from shaw. 5) The call center really tries to be helpful but at the end of the day the product does not deliver and there is nothing they can do I've call them a half doz times over the battery and motion settings issues and they simply can't fix them. The offer for call back in sequence is not honored! Less than two weeks ago after calling in the morning and requesting a call which didn't happen I called them in the afternoon which went through after a 5 min wait. I questioned not getting the promised call back from my earlier morning attempt and they advised they had been too busy?? Yet they answered quickly that afternoon? And to add insult to injury you have to listen to the founders story about starting the company and going on Dragon's den over and over again. It would be fine if consumers didn't have to call in every other week!! I encourage you to check out the other reviews and I am sure you will see a common theme. If you get one to try hang on to your receipt, wish mine was not a gift or it would have been returned.

Not as advertised.

Only connects half of the time. They need to be hard wired in or there pretty much useless. Battery life is 3 to four weeks tops.

The Best in the Market

I always check review and do some research before I make a purchase. This one is really a Best Buy. I was looking for a security camera at first that doesn't need wires and easy to set up until I saw this doorbell. It functions as a door bell but activates camera as well with motion sensor. It is a must have for security at home. The style is elegant and can be connected directly to the old door bell or use a Chime to do a wireless connection. The ability to connect to the wifi makes it able to give you notification on your smart phone if you have someone infront of your door bell. I have use this product a lot of times when I wasn't at home to answer the door and everything went well. This kind of products are worth spending your money for. The Customer Service of this company is Top Notch as well. I did try to call their line when they added additional service to the door bell such as the Live View. Great Product! Highly recommended.

Not Impressed

I admit, I am not tech savvy and I admit it. I bought this this product and I followed in-app installation guide. Sometimes I got video, sometimes I didn't. I called long distance for help. Very nice people answered all my questions, walked me through my problem. Tried the product again, installed outside. Video very choppy. Also, loss of 15% battery power over night (-1F) Looks like it doesn't like the cold, packaging says good to -20F. Choppy video turns out to be wifi problem. I have to get a booster, not mentioned on packaging. I was willing to put up with all this crap when I realized, as I did all the tests the website suggested, I noticed two things. 1) Only about 50% of the test rings I did went through to my phone. 2) My phone gave me no notification that someone was ringing the doorbell other than a video would pop open on the screen. If I'm not looking AT my phone I don't know there is someone ringing the doorbell. As I said, I am not tech savvy. I am not about to reconfigure my phone, even if I knew how. Yes, I read other people's problems with this device. Gobbledygook to me. If this were a plug and play, I'd love it. It's not so I don't. Now Bestbuy will charge a huge restocking, parts missing fee because the four plastic plugs are still in the brick wall outside..

  • from Edmonton, AB

You know what else is easy about this product? Someone ripping it off the bracket. Not secure at all, but at least you'll see who did it. Which is why the box says replacement provided stolen.

  • from Toronto, ON

performance is inconsistent and with issues

I have had this device for over a year, it started off working consistently and well. Unfortunately the first device stopped recording within a year and I was provided a free replacement. Since then the recording is inconsistent, sometimes it records and sometimes not when people are at my front door. The door bell sometimes sounds and sometimes not. After this recent experience, I would not purchase another RING device nor recommend it to anyone.

its JUNK !!

very very cheap camera. battery dies too quickly and i shouldnt have to be thinking if this thing is going to not working when im away while my kuds and wife are at home worrying whose at the front porch since we dont like visits from strangers uninvited in this big city. Do yourself a favour and avoid this item. i know you really want to buy something for the front door.. go buy yourself a NVR security camera system end up buying Hikvision ds-7600 series with 4 3mp1080ip cameras that notifies me by text and emails with pictures includinh HD streaming on my Iphone and work laptop

Not what I expected for the price

I would to review this product, but I can't. I was unable to install it because the Instructions were only in French. Sadly, both Ring.com and Best Buy said to download instructions from the website. Best Buy said they would do it for me and to come to store to pick them up. When Best Buy checked their stock, they found only French Instructions in the boxes. Too bad I don't read French. I'm returning the product for a refund because I can't trust a company or their product if it costs me more money and time to install and use it. I can't fault Best Buy for this because it is a Ring.com packaging issue. I've emailed Ring.com to inform them to include both English and French instructions when shipping to Canada...something they should have known. No Stars for Ring.com, but I had to give one star so my review would be accepted.

  • from Calgary, AB

Great little camera

Once installed works great. My advice is to charge the battery first even if it's hardwired. I wasn't able to get the live view at first due to the fact the battery level was too low. Another issue I had was I could not register it to he WiFi via my phone (android marshmallow). The i-phone app is much better apparently. Used my kids tablet to set it up. Later talked to some ring customer service reps and after couple of phone calls the live view issue was resolved. Great support from Ring + the theft warranty give me additional assurance for the quality of the product.

  • from Montréal, QC

only a great idea

My main language is french. Daylight image quality is poor ; pixelated; laggy; can not recognise other than family. Evening (with background or foreground door lights) image quality is bad Night image quality is bad Infrared night vision assist blast completely the subjects Performance is sometimes laggy (1/10) other times it's like a blurred pixelated photo and audio is uncomprehensible. On my network I can stream 2 full HD movies on Netflix and have an excellent quality with Skype videocall at a time on my 10Mbp/s upload connexion. So like we see in the appStore review performance is unacceptable, unusable. Their servers are probably not powerfull ennough to handle the processing of connexion between devices. On youtube you can see that the company pais for marketing of good reviews. Will go back to the store.

Ring video doorbell battery short life

The battery would barely last 2 weeks after being fully charged, making this device useless. Even though the Ring website claims the battery should last at least 6 months to a year .

  • from Edmonton AB

This was easy to install and use, however the motion sensor is delayed by 5-10 seconds and the camera/picture has a fish eye effect and not very clear after 5 feet. Not enough quality for the price.

  • from Burlington

Works inconsistently not worth the price

I have a home based business and hearing my door bell is very important. Since installing this bell I have had nothing but problems. It is never consistent and completely untrustworthy.

  • from Dorval, QC

Great product

It was easy to install and you receive the call quickly. However, the image is a bit unclear at times. I can see who is at the door perfectly, but anything beyond that is distorted. I recommend this product.

  • from Barrie, ON

Should be better than it is for the price

So I bought this over a month ago and am generally satisfied, but there is room for improvement. I am not sure why ring made the camera so it feels like you are looking through a periscope. There are plenty of small cameras on the market that offer a clear, widescreen, HD field of vision. Why this one doesn't is beyond me. When installing on a brick wall, I caution you to ensure the mount is flat. Any slight bump will cause for a difficult installation. The camera does what it says for the most part. Occasionally I'll get a motion notification when there is nothing there, but that's a minor inconvenience that I can deal with. I am not sure if I would recommend this product however. It's over priced in my opinion.

  • from Markham, ON

Overall good!

Easy install! Camera ok, however motion detect is kind of slow!

  • from Ottawa, ON

Great product

Love the video. Picture is clear, audio is clear when answering the doorbell with my iPhone 6s-plus. Motion needs tweaking as it captures larger trucks like the UPS truck when it drives by the house. It does not capture cars and people walking the sidewalk. Very easy to install. It is not a live cam but I believe the developers at Ring.com can add this functionality as long as you have a hard wired connection as to the battery alone operation. The rate is reasonable but for a single device then it is no longer reasonable. A flat rate per household is reasonable and hopefully Ring.com will snap out of it and implement a flat fee per household.

  • from Peterborough, ON

I just got this and installed it. The installation on the brick wall was very easy, they give you everything you need but the drill. Once installed I was up and running in no time. This thing is awesome, I love it and it works very well. Better than the Arlo cameras I tried before this.

  • from Boucherville, QC

Work well

Very nice addition to home security. It works well when well install.

  • from St. John's, NL

After pairing this with your router you mount it outside preferably using your existing doorbell wires so you will never have to charge it. That's it! Now you have a motion detector that will send a live video to your cellphone when it detects motion or if someone presses the doorbell button. You can talk to and hear the person at the door. It has night illumination via infrared leds.It has a super wide angle lens. Plus it actually works as advertised! I love it. Soon they will also have a live anytime feature which will let you turn on the camera at will. They will email their current customers when this feature is enabled. They are currently rolling out that feature in blocks and the lack of that feature was the number one complaint. I attached the mounting plate to my doorframe with "tough as nails" brand double sided sticky tape and it worked great. For safety, convenience and peace of mind this pricy doorbell is worth it!
