Audio Sync issues

I'd love to give this product a positive review. Unfortunately there is an audio sync issue when playing back files with DTS audio. This is a known issue that is posted in many A/V forums, including Roku's own forum where they comment that they are aware of the issue but know fix is imminent. This has been going in for over a year now. Save your money and put it towards and nVidia shield.

In theory, its a beautiful device wiht an user friendly interface.

Bought this a week ago, and it worked nicely... EXCEPT... Hours into entertainment, I had HDCP 2.2 errors (4K/UDHD playback related issue). Upon further investigation, I went through support website, which by the way suggested the most obvious solutions such as restarting the device, upgrading the cables, connecting directly to the tv instead of AVR, and at the end of it they even mentioned: "agent-assisted support is NOT available for this device". Having done all the above, the frequency of the errors were reduced, (however, the issue was far from resolved).. Now I get "HDCP unrecognized errors". NO ONE SHOULD HAVE TO RESTART A DEVICE IN MIDDLE OF A PROGRAM! Esp. not when you are purchasing top of the line product from ROKU. Upon further research, it turns out that this IS A FREQUENT problem with this unit... I wish I could have shared some of the screenshots to back up my rant. My suggestion to potential customers: ROKU has entertained many, but if you are looking for FLAWLESS 4K goodness... You are better off waiting till they step up their game. Goodluck.

Don't Agree With Bad Reviews

I have personally bought Apple TV, ChromeCast and this Roku. I am surprised by the bad reviews, my Roku is phenomenal and enjoyable. If you have kids, you can plug in a headphone into the remote and they can watch Netflix, Youtube or cast from my Android phone with ease. If you are creative like myself, you can get an old monitor with HDMI input and use a Roku on it with no speakers. Perfect for the solution-oriented parent. I also very much enjoy Youtube on it, the picture seems sharper on my LG TV.

Don't waste your money!

Very hard to find apps that Roku has not or will not soon shut down including pay services.

Flawed design causing intermittent audio glitches and no customer support at Roku to speak of.

Avoid Roku!

I would have rated this device 0 if I could and hence the single star. My advice is to stay away from this product! I purchased my Roku Ultra back in Dec 2016. Setup was straight forward through my home cinema system, however, from the start, when streaming (eg: Netflix) the unit produced random audio chirps at a high gain such that I was actually worried this blow up the tweeters in my speakers.I contacted customer support after realizing over time that the problem is not resolved via firmware updates. As well, I noticed that I was not the only one with this issue. Many others appear to have the same problem. Technical support person was courteous but certainly unhelpful and remains so to this day. As a matter of fact they just stopped responding to my queries . The problem remains with no solution on the horizon for this flawed design.

Justice is served

Just here to off-set Roger from Gold River's Review. Gave a very positive review but still only 1 Star. Didn't buy - Don't own - Don't care "I'm not saying I'm Batman I'm just saying nobody has seen Me and Batman in a room together"

Works great, but...

This product worked great with a very simple setup. My need for this product was to convert my second TV into a smart-TV so I can access things like Netflix etc. it works great for that and the other free media are a nice added bonus. However, the lack of an ability to support some formats from a USB stick is problematic. The device can not play a lot of video files without taking a lot of time to convert them to an appropriate format where as my smart-TV has no problem with these formats. The ability to play things such as a Flash video file that I have had for years would be great and not asking too much from a product of this quality and price.

Could not get this Roku Ultra to work. Our old Roku works fine. The service centre people cut us off because I kept insisting the problem was not our local network. They will not even answer our calls now and will not text with me. So we are returning the Roku Ultra and will never, ever buy a Roku again. Best Buy has been very good and I have nothing but good things to say of Best Buy.

Limited To Roku Channels! Asks For Credit Card To Register

Good for Old TV Stations or shows, not Current unless you subscribe to Crave TV.

Worth the money, Excellent product

Very good product, easy to set up and excellent tech support. I'm just new to streaming and I find Roku very easy to use. Easy search and tons of channels cowvering almost every subject imaginable.

Good Alternative for Cable

First one the volume on the TV didn't work. Took it back and replaced it and works fine. Still limited to applications available from Roku! Good Unit for movies. Still have to subscribe to Netflix for New Movies. Happy with unit for money paid.

Nice product, sleek design, easy to set up. I've only used it 3-4 times, albeit for several hours at a time. The problem is, the content is very voluminous, but holy geez there is little of real interest. The rare gems take a while to find sifting through all the content. It's a nice do-dad if you have a few bucks to spare, but don't cancel your cable subscription hoping this will replace it.

Excellent product

Love the Roku, works perfectly, lots of streaming options and "just works" right out of the box. Add 4K compatibility and voice command remote and you've got a real winner.

Great product

Have been very happy with this. Setup was quick and easy. The remote is very nice, good weight, nice feel to the buttons, and very responsive due to the quick speed of the Roku itself. We have a couple of year old Panasonic TV and compared to it the Netfix navigation is really fast and good. Some of the 3rd party apps aren't well thought out in terms of interface but they all work. Having so many options is nice, haven't been through them all yet but the main feeds (Netflix, Crackle, etc.) are the main reason we got it anyway. DLNA worked very easily and getting audio or video feeds from the NAS was a bonus. Overall, just wish I bought this sooner.

Well done!

Just purchased the Roku Ultra to replace the existing Western Digital TV. Using the third party PLEX application I can stream my videos from PC to TV. If you are familiar with WDTV it is riddled with bugs and WiFi drops. I'm happy to report I've had zero drops in over two weeks! Also the GUI is quicker and seamless over WDTV. win, win, great product!

Great 60 FPS Performance

Prior to buying this Roku Ultra, I owned a Roku streaming stick (2016 version). I upgraded to the Ultra even though I don't have a 4K TV because I wanted 60fps (frames per second) support which the streaming stick doesn't support. The Ultra and stick are both pretty fast and responsive in the UI and loading videos. As I mentioned, I don't have a 4K TV, so I can't comment on the 4K performance or HDR. On a regular HD TV though, everything looks good. And most importantly for me, YouTube videos now play in 60 fps (for those videos encoded in 60 fps).

Best Money Spent.

Roku Ultra is fabulous. Lightning quick, way faster than my samsung smart tv. Picture is beautiful, sound is crystal clear. Very user friendly interface. Set up was super quick, and you don't need a credit card, you just press skip. Don't believe other reviews that say you do. My wife even uses it, she never touched the smart tv as it was confusing. Roku has lots of free channels, comprised of mostly public domain material, but some rare and unique stuff. Never loses the connection to netflix etc. Lots of fun. Comes with Spotify app, which is a big plus.

Upgrading from Roku 2

I mainly use this for Plex and found my old Roku 2 was a little slow and since I will be in the market for a TV in the near future and this was on a black Friday sale, I decided to pick up a new Roku Ultra and I couldn't be happier. I didn't realize how slow the 2 was until I got this one, everything loads in 5 seconds. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking at upgrading or just getting their first.

  • from Dartmouth

Not worth it based on content.

Product works great, but there is very little content available in Canada. The is also no screen mirroring available. Instant regret after first use.

The remote will not stay pared with the receiver so far Roku support is not helpful

Roku Ultra didn't read our Passport external drive

On the positive side, Netflix on the Roku worked just fine, and the remote was simple and convenient to use. As newcomers to streaming, we were disappointed with the picture and sound quality of the "free" channels. Free streaming is a good example of "you get what you pay for". The biggest disappointment with Roku Ultra, though, was the inability of the USB connection to play existing files from our Passport brand external drive. The on-screen message told us that the drive needed its own power source. Roku website remedies suggested using a powered USB hub. The hub didn't help. The Roku Ultra went back to Best Buy in a truly hassle-free transaction.
