Direct copy paste working good. My be I am doing something wrong, but I thing WD should make software costumer friendly. I will return it back. Thanks

disappointed in this product and support

I purchased this to be a backup device for my laptop , I used it for a few months with no issues backed up files and used the drive without any problems Using my usb3 port and getting good transfer speeds , then decided to finally start to transfer approx 600 gigabytes of data using a cut and paste method in windows 10, it was going fine for approx 45 minutes and then seemed to stall , thinking this was normal I left it alone after leaving it for about 4 hours i went back to remove the drive and noticed that it was still sitting at the same file location. So as you guessed all the files that were transferred and all the existing data on the 2 TB drive has been completely lost worst part the website for support gives no real utilities to check the drive , was stuck with the basic windows check disk and it reported the drive needed repair and scan , and also that did not work . As for seagate website they have an option basically the same cost of the drive to send it in and try to recover the lost data. needless to say it is not worth the money as I still have older backups on older USB ext drives . Now comes the hard part dealing with Seagate to get a replacement without the receipt..

Utter piece of junk

Used it to backup our personal files and photos. Then it just decided to become unreadable after 20 days or purchasing it. Could have returned to the store for an exchange, but it had a copy of literally all of our personal data on it, which might become available to a drive repair specialist. So we decided to eat the loss and destroy this useless object of painful regret. What a waste of money!!! Buyer beware! Seagate sucks!!!

I bought one six months ago and it worked great. My husband bought one and a month after purchase it failed.... A month after his failed, mine failed. A whole lot of fail.

  • from Uxbridge, ON

Worked great - then didn't.

There is a "cheap" feel to these drives and I found out the hard way that they aren't made very well. The sides bend in and it just doesn't feel like it can take a hit. Almost too thin for its own good actually. I was backing up music files and suddenly it just quit. I've tried disk utilities and other repair applications. It's just toast - only three months old! I've never encountered this with a Western Digital drive and I'm going back.

  • from Lethbridge, AB

Worked for 2 months then quit. Will not buy another Seagate.

  • from Toronto

Stopped working after 15 months

I had this for only 15 months and then it stopped working. Lost a bunch of files and photographs. Will be sticking with Western Digital from now on.

Crashed After 9 Months

Worked great until it didn't. Started beeping after 9 months and could not access backup data. Got RMA number to return it. Was then told it would be replaced with a refurbished unit (probably an industry standard process but still unacceptable). Also had to courier it to the repair center even though I drive right past it for work. Decided to not send it in. Not worth the risk of my personal data for the cost of a backup drive. Might have decided differently if I could have wiped the data. Wonder how often this happens and how it fits into their business model.

Works fine after 14 months

Wonder why others would say it's so bad? I got mine in 2016 boxing day sale. Been working fine since then. My tech-savvy friend advised me not to use the built-in auto-back up or anything came pre-installed. Took his advice and only used for storing data from HD. USB 3 was very fast and backed up full 1 TB HD in less than 30 minutes. Videos were faster than other smaller files like pics and docs. Overall I would've given it 5 stars if not my friend's caution. May be I was lucky to get a good one?

Not a good investment

Not happy at all. Came in for a Rugged mini, of course it was sold out. Employee recommended this, I guess its my fault for not researching it first. Completely slows down my computer, I can't even open files from an SD card while its plugged in. Even after changing its properties for better performance its still the same. Seems like some people have success and other dont. I will not be taking a chance on Seagate again.

Died after a couple days

Completely lost all files on this device after the first time I moved it anywhere. I was able to reformat it and it is visible to be used again on the computer, but if it needs to be reformatted often what's the point of this thing?

  • from Abbotsford, BC

Lasted one year.

I used the hard drive to store documents and 4K video for my smart TV. It was great until it stopped working.

  • from Whitby, ON

I don't know why people say it stops working because I had mine for 2 years now, and it works perfectly. I even dropped it a few times and it's working still amazingly. I put documents on it and animation maya files! never lost any of my files.

  • from Dryden, ON

Three months was how long this one lasted. Lost about 750GB of precious photos and videos. The ridiculous thing was that I bought this one to backup another (of another brand) that was showing signs of failing.

  • from Hawkesbury, ON

works fine for me

Bought this 1TB from Seagate and it works fine. It contains all my movies and pictures. Had it for 1 year now and it's good. I guess I have been lucky.

  • from Brampton, ON

This device is guaranteed for data corruption and loss of files sometime during its lifetime (possibly less than 2 years). I would never recommend buying any Seagate hard drive products. Their data recovery service is also really bad and painful to deal with. Good luck to all savers out there!

What a piece of garbage

I received a Seagate Slim 2 TB at Christmas as a gift. When I went to use it it did not work. After about 10 e-mails back and forth to Seagate with them trying to determine how to get it to work they determined that the product was defective straight from their manufacturing plant. What great quality control. I then had to ship the product to Seagate packed in a specific way with the knowledge that I was not going to get a new hard drive but a refurbished one. Meaning somebody else's new broken one that was repaired. I also had to pay the shipping cost to send it back even though it was defective from the factory. Now the refurbished hard drive that I received does not work and Seagate wants to charge me to speak to to a technician to resolve the issues. Therefore good luck to any of you that buy this product as it is trash only and so is the way that Seagate treats their customers.

Stops working after a few months

This is the second hard drive from Seagate that has just stopped working. Definitely switching to a different company now.

  • from Toronto, ON

Died after a few month of using it once bi-weekly

I liked the size of the product, andd was pretty easy to set up... but after only a few months of hardly ever using it (but with close to 1tb of info on it) the drive suddenly just stopped working.... a little bit of research online showed that it's quite common. I used to only have LaCie products and will go back to that right now...

  • from Québec, QC

The worst.

Tried it right out of the box. Did not work. Attempted to initialize it using the disk management option from Windows. Not even recognized in there half of the time and when present, only returns cyclic errors. Will return and never buy this brand again.

2TB Portable Drive

Excellent performance & size. Ideal for storage off-site in safe deposit box. When will you bring out a 2 TB flash drive?

  • from Edmonton, AB

Nice Backup drive

I like this compact hard drive. It is reasonably fast and doesn't take up too much space.

  • from Cobourg, ON

Easy to Use

I'm very happy with the Seagate Backup hard drive. It is very easy to use. Just plug it in to your computer, find the files you want to back up, right click and send to Seagate device. It takes some time to download so go have a coffee.

Bought the drive to put all my music on to it....transferred the files on my Mac to store on drive. Went well...was great to download the app to allow it to be used on the Mac without reformatting the best of 2 worlds...Great price too...

Fast, sleek

Excellent for downloading onto, any problems would be with your computer..........mine however works fine! The drive is a great size for storing mega movies, music, information, pictures and to back up your computer! Great product! Thanks Best Buy

Poor Product!

After receiving this product for Christmas (last week), not even a week of use it stopped working with 500 + gb of data on it. And after doing some research I found out that this is a common problem. Disappoint in product to say the least. Now I have to seek assistance from a computer repair company to attempt to recover my irreplaceable photos, documents and media. Thanks SeaGate!

  • from North York

slow speed

Just bought on deal for 2TB hard drive. Price was awesome and model is very slick and attractive. However it takes forever to transfer files from windows to this 2.5 USB hard drive. For me it tool 5 hours to transfer 400 GB data....

  • from Toronto, ON

Amazing and slim drive

Got this on sale on Black Friday, it's amazingly small. I use it on both PC and Mac, and Seagate offers a free download of a plugin for Mac to allow it to read NTFS drives. Great job Seagate!

Great for upgrading PS4 HDD

Very easy to take apart and install inside PS4. Took less than 10 minutes.

Great external drive

I bought this external drive for the sole purpose of upgrading my PS4 hard drive from a 1TB to 2TB. I was pleasantly surprised to find that if you're careful you can reuse the enclosure. This drive works great in the PS4 and now I have a use for the 1TB as an external as well. Highly recommend this as a cheap PS4 upgrade option as long as you're ok with voiding the warranty.

  • from Deux-montagnes, QC

works fine

  • from Brampton

Great PS4 Upgrade

So I bought this hard drive for my PlayStation 4. Granted I did not use it as and external hard drive. I instead pryed it open (which was only a bit tricky because there was a light seal underneath) and I removed the 2.5" drive and put and replace my original ps4 hard drive with it. The ps4 allows 1.77tb accessible as a side note. This is the best price I have seen for a 2.5" 2tb hard drive I have seen so far and I really do recommend it if your upgrading your ps4 or you just need some external storage.

  • from Burnaby, BC

Ongoing power issues

The hard drive randomly disconnects and reconnects, including while transfers are ongoing. This occurs on multiple computers running Windows 7 and 10. I've set all the power settings as recommended but no luck. Included software is garbage.

  • from Amherstburg

Stopped working

This hard drive was modified to be usable for both mac and windows and worked fine for about a month. Then out of no where wouldn't plug up to my mac computer. Nothing was readable. Then tried again couple weeks later then could view them but put nothing else on it or take it off on my mac computer. This is the second seagate hard drive I purchased which has done this and only way to fix them is to get everything off of it and re-format it, But I've also done research and apparently if you use it on both mac and windows comps this is com'mon and can keep happening :(

Best portable hard drive

Can't go wrong with Seagate products.

Seagate External Harddrive

I have been wanting an external hard drive for years, due to my losing photo's music and other important. Saw this the Seagate on sale at 2TB yet, so had to get it. . Backup is fast, and i could not be happier.

  • from Gore, QC

User friendly and fast

Bought this on special. Love the portable size and how fast it works. The only plus would be an included casing...

Good Deal When On Sale

Bought two of these. So far they seem to be running fine. My only complaint to date is that these require USB power and so will not run reliably when connected to a keyboard on an iMac. This is fine as many devices have the same limitation, but they show a message about low power. The problem I had with these drives is that no error was displayed about low power. When I started backing up files the copy would progress for several minutes and then fail with a strange message about drive errors. I thought I had a bad drive, but before requesting an RMA I plugged it into a different computer (directly) and the backups completed without errors. I then went back to the iMac and plugged it directly in and it has been running without problems since then.

Great for XBOX One

Purchased this external drive for my Xbox one 1TB as I was running out of space and it works great! Its performance and speed is excellent as it runs games smoothly. I also like the thin sleek black design that seagate put together on this hard drive. The xbox also makes it easy to install with a simple format. If your looking to upgrade your gaming system to a higher storage space then I would certainly recommend this hard drive.

  • from Milton, ON

Excellent hard drive with excellent speed plus capacity.

Online boxing day purchase

i bought this item online during the boxing day and was [price] cheaper than the regular asking price. i had no problem so far with it. it's plug and play, so no problem to make it work and price wise 2tb for [price] you can't ask for a better value. for better performance make sure to use a usb 3.0, it make a big difference.

  • from Brampton, ON

Gets the job done

I purchased this primarily because of the fantastic holiday sale price. I use this for storing and accessing video files, which are typically between 1gb & 4gb. I also have a 2tb WD Passport to do similar activities and I've noticed the WD performs slightly better. If the prices were the same or within [price] then I would choose he WD. In my case the best buy price was to good to pass up and I'm pleased with the purchase.

  • from Markham, ON

Cool stuff

Cool stuff bro~works with PC pretty well. Also opens in mac, which I can read and copy, I can't modify the files.
