Amazing sound -- your ears will thank you

  • The Sonos PLAY:1 features 2 Class-D amplifiers and 2 custom-built drivers, which allow it to pump out crystal-clear hi-fi sound at any volume
  • The all-digital sound architecture reproduces sound precisely, so you hear what the artist intended
  • The Trueplay tuning feature analyzes the acoustic properties of the room and then fine tunes the drivers so you can enjoy the optimum sound experience for both music and home theatre entertainment

More than just playlists

  • With wireless connectivity through WiFi you'll be able to stream your iTunes library, favourite music services, and thousands of radio stations around the world
  • Since PLAY:1 uses Wi-Fi, not Bluetooth, you'll enjoy an audio stream with no dropouts, delays, or interruptions, and the music keeps playing even if your phone receives a call
  • Use the Sonos Controller app for your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Android device to search for songs and radio stations, control volume, and pick music to play

Play your way

  • Pair two PLAY:1s and turn them into separate left- and right-channel speakers for bigger stereo sound -- perfect for home theatre audio
  • Boost the bass by connecting the PLAY:1 (single or stereo pair) wirelessly to a SUB, which creates the additional bonus of allowing the PLAY:1 speakers to focus on producing better mid-range and high frequencies

Sonos - skips ahead songs and podcasts

I started out loving these and one by one added one to each room. But now - the podcast or song suddenly stops midway and jumps ahead to the next one. Frustrating! I've reloaded the ap, I've set up the system from scratch, I've restarted the router. So in the end they are expensive paperweights.

bad customer support, glitchy system

do not buy, piece of junk

Good software, poor speaker quality

Just purchased the Sonos 1 from Best Buy due to overwhelmingly positive reviews online. The software is seamless, and you can control with any device. Note that premium accounts are required for use of some of the common apps such as Spotify. However, I was very disappointed in the speaker sound quality. For a system that's toted to have excellent sound, the bass is tinny and it does not hold its own. Will be returning.

sounds great but runs via app (wifi) NOT bluetooth

Sound is wonderful so we bought three of these. The problem is that you can't listen to Spotify or Apple music unless you subscribe to the premium music services. Will not simply play itunes from your device. This is not a bluetooth speaker but runs via an online application. We could no longer run it from our computer or older model of iphone when the app needed updating as it needed the most up-to-date operating system. Also, if your wifi is spotty, the sound will cut in and out. Not ideal if you want to listen offline or if you have weak wifi. Great sound and cool to run from different rooms but lack of flexibility with what you can play and wifi shortcomings give it a low grade.

Killer Sound and Great Quality

I have two of these babies set up on Sanus stands in my living room and functioning as a surround sound system. My main speaker is the Sonos Play Base and the sound quality of all three speakers combined is like nothing I've heard before. Just pure awesomeness. The set up is a breeze, but just make sure you use the Trueplay tuning feature. as it does make a huge difference in sound quality.

Canadian customers beware

The Sonos Play 1 has great sound. But unless you want to spend significant amounts in monthly subscription fees I do not recommend the Sonos system. Streaming the most popular free internet music services to Sonos is not possible. Even streaming your own content from the music library feature can be incomprehensible difficult. Support consists of user forms that are largely populated by US users and therefore of limited utility to a Canadian customer. Overall I feel like i’ve Purchased an incredibly overpriced paper weight. I bought my Play 1 with the intent of expanding the system to a whole home system, but now I am searching for better, more versatile alternatives.

play 1 pair

these speakers are worth every penny I started with 1 play one and ever since I got that speaker I've wanted a second so today I went to best buy and got my second play 1 and I'm so glad I did sounds like a 1500 sound system but just two little speaker got the stands for them so there in the air sounds so good next is the play 3 for the centers of them then I'll be getting the sound bar for my living room with the sub SONOS is the best hands down little money but worth every penny

Great sound from a small speaker

I love the Sonos play 1 when set up with a second speaker in stereo mode. Great sound out of these little guys and very easy to set up. The price is a bit higher than I would like but they are good quality!

  • from Ancaster, ON

I have 4 play 1s and a play 3. Sound is truly incredible. Easy to bring the play 1 outside - and still have the same great sound. Humidity resistant as well.

  • from London, ON

You will love it! Quality sound and the set-up couldn't be easier.

  • from Surrey, BC

Fantastic speaker

Bought two of these and a Play 3. Worth every dollar! Doesn't matter if they are not bluetooth. Sound is amazing on PLAY 1 speakers. great for wherever you want to put them in the house.

Easy Set Up great product

Easy set up through an Ipad no issues. Use one to play music in a large room. Great sound at half volume bass is good after adjusted. Not designed to be extremely loud as the bass fades away but great at half volume. Highly recommend. Bought an open box for a great deal!! Someone didn't know how to set it up.

  • from Cochrane, AB

Keeps Cutting Out

Easy set up, but... I have 5 units throughout my business. Cuts out several times a day. Bought a booster, now cuts out once or twice a day. Would not purchase again.

  • from Duncan

Once you get past the price it will not disappoint

Added this to my bedroom and it's amazing how much Sound this little speaker makes. If you can splurge and get 2 and pair them for stereo sound it will blow you away. Can't recommend enough.

  • from Thorold, ON

Sounds is great, but if you don't have a great internet connection then bluetooth might be the way to go. I bought 2 of these however when comparing to a UE MEGA BOOM I found the sound better. SONOS is great in may ways, but we live in a plug free world, if they were rechargeable and moveable that would be amazing!

  • from Newmarket, ON

Great product and worth the investment

I'm pretty picky about my sound, and for a mono speaker (stereo if you set up two) the Sonos Play 1 packs a really great punch. The sound is balanced with pretty rich lows, and maintains fidelity even in the louds. So far, the Sonos App has been great too. The only drawback is the lack of Bluetooth support so it's not as portable as some speakers (I would have loved to take it to a family gathering but there was no wifi...), but it will play files from your computer, tablet, phone, NAS etc without a problem once it's set up. I also have a premium Spotify account and it works wonderfully. Overall, I thoroughly recommend Sonos. It's not cheap, but the quality is there and it'll make a great addition to your home.

Great addition

This speaker has great sound. We are more than thrilled with it. Easy to install even for non technical people such as ourselves. Great speaker for a great price.

  • from Maple Ridge, BC

Good enough for Me! (and I'm picky)

Once I installed the Sonos software on my computer, I had all my music I could ever access; it linked everything together. So now I can play anything from anywhere, it gives me access to my networked external drives on my phones, laptop or desktop. And now with so much internet radio, I have no use for my old stereo (sorry Onkyo; you've been great, but your time has passed; got rid of the 8tracks-cassettes-turntables-cd's-dvd's years ago). God I love progress.

  • from Markham, ON

Unbalanced sound.

Sound is unbalanced, unnatural. The bass is screaming "notice me"; feel like I have to pay attention to it.

  • from Mississauga, ON

Love this system!

I started with 2 speakers and loved it! The sound quality is amazing and love that you can position the speaker anywhere in the house and choose to group the speakers together or keep them separate. We love the Sonos so much that we just bought another for Christmas so that you can hear the music through out the house. People keep looking up into the ceiling to see if we have in celling speakers. The sound is that good! A definite great purchase. I will be looking at the Sonos 3 now so please comment if you have any tips.

  • from Campbell River, BC

Love these!

My whole house is now Sonos'd up...I especially like the internet radio stations and the fact that I can pick up the speakers and put them anyway (limited by power plugs) I have one out in the garage/shed for when I'm working out there.

  • from Kingston, ON

Great Little Product

I just bought my third one of these. I have two paired together in my living room, and now one in my bedroom. I'm not an audiophile but I love to listen to music, and these little speakers sound great. Lots of visitors after shocked at the depth of the sound they produce. I use these with Google music and TuneIn radio and love it. Easy setup and flawless performance.

Best of the Entry Level

I spent a lot of time going back and forth between which entry level speaker and which company to go with. I can say with all honesty that I am beyond satisfied with the SONOS Play 1 speaker. With Bose not being compatible with Google Play Music, Sonos was the obvious choice for me. My son loves it and dances in the living room until he can't move anymore! The sound is great for such a little speaker... I can't wait to add more Sonos products to complete my audio set up at home. Set-Up is a little tricky for Google Play Music.. but all you need to do is "uninstall" the Play music app and it will automatically update and be recognized by the Speaker. Would recommend 100% over all other entry level home audio speakers.

  • from Toronto, ON

great sound. Easy to set up

love this speaker. you can set them up very easily. all connects via Wifi which easier than bluetooth and doesnt 'iinterrupt you' when the phone rings. the Play 1 is very good. will be enough for your living room unless you want some booming sound!.. in which case buy the Play 2 or 3

  • from Vancouver, BC

Great sound, poor functions

For its size, I would give this speaker a sound quality rating of 5/5. But it only works over a wireless connection. Any dodgy connection at home (i.e any Telus customer like me!), and you'll experience cut-outs and bad buffering. You are limited to use only your home music library too (or Apple Music). I tried to hook up Spotify, but it will only accept a Premium Account, not a free one! I'd like to also play music from Youtube videos from my phone/laptop, but you can't do this either. I'll be exchanging mine to a speaker with Bluetooth capability instead, which is a shame because this product would be top of the market with just a few extra features!

  • from Winnipeg, MB

Premium Scam

You can only use the Sonos app to play anything. This requires Premium Spotify and soon Slacker. You cannot use Google Cast or anything from your phone (i.e. Podcasts). I feel completely cheated after spending a premium price for these speakers. Stay away and buy Google's offering when it comes out.

  • from Kitchener, ON

Great sound, super easy set up

Just picked up this speaker from BestBuy. The sound is great, deep base, and as the title states, the set up was very easy, and thorough. I paired it with Apple Music, and my home library. I will be getting more of these speakers as you can set locations, and use on multiple devices.

Repeat Customer

We got the Play 3 a year or so ago and just bought the Play 1 for a smaller room upstairs. Set-up is really easy, sound is awesome and you can even group the 2 speakers to play the same thing which is really cool. It' s pretty easy to link the music on your iPhone to the SONOS and find local radio stations to stream. We really like both of them although they are not cheap.

  • from Toronto, ON

Wicked Awesome

I have a Playbar, Sub & 2 Play:1s connected to my tv, 2 Play:1s setup as a stereo pair that I can easily move from room to room if need be & a Connect:Amp connected to my outdoor speakers. Setup was stupid simple & it all works flawlessly. The Playbar etc. are wonderful whether used for home theatre or for listening to streamed content. There's also no end of free commercial free content available via TuneIn. Only gave SONOS 4 stars due to the price.

  • from Ottawa, ON

These SONOS Play1 units truly deliver !

After a friend bought 5 of these for her Condo - I was 100% sold. The sound is great! ... and the quality of the product is simply second-to-none. Set up was very straight forward and they work as promised. Now I just need to save up for a couple more :) Great product and sound!

Solid choice for whole home entertainment

I have replaced a computer running iTunes and another brand of wifi speakers with two play 1's, a bridge and a WD cloud drive. These were easy to set-up and even my wife can use the software to access her playlist and enjoy in seconds after turning on the iPad. The fact that she can listen to her playlist on our second floor while I enjoy mine in the garage is awesome, so much so that I am considering adding another zone in our rec room / patio in the near future. My only negative is that they are a little pricey but the fact that it made up for all of the short falls of my previous system over shadows that. Worth taking a serious look at if you want to enhance your whole home with sound.

  • from Kingston, ON

sound is good but it's way overpriced

Nice sound for such a small speaker. Sets up easily and rarely drops its connection even though it's well away from our router. But over [price] for a single speaker seems pretty steep to me and this is the entry level product.

  • from Edmonton, AB

The best!

I have two play 1, one play 3 and one playbar for our media room and they are simply amazing. The sound quality and reliability is flawless, especially for being on wifi only. The app is super easy to use and set up is also a breeze. I'm planning on getting two more play 1's for the garage and office. Highly recommend this product. It's worth the extra bucks.

Probably best purchase I ever made at Best Buy

Have purchased 7 SONOS speakers this year. They are absolutely great! I have 3 x PLAY 1, 3 x PLAY 3 and the Playbar. I could not be more satisfied with their performance! Amazing sound, extremely simple to operate and I can use my phone to control them! You can group rooms together, have multiple speakers in the same room, and even have different music in different rooms as it is extremely flexible. You can connect music sources from multiple sources (hard drives, ipads, laptops etc.) or subscribe to a streaming source - which is the route I went. You will not be disappointed!

  • from Toronto, ON

Great addition to wireless home sound system

For the past few years, we've been adding speakers to our SONOS sound system. We started with a Play 5, next came the sound bar, then Play 3 and this year with the addition of 2 play ones, we have amazing quality wireless sound quality throughout our home. We highly reccommend thsi system!

  • from Vancouver

I would highly recommend these speakers to anyone. The sound is crystal clear, they're tiny and easy to use and just 2 speakers really fill up a 2000 sq ft main level.

  • from Sault Ste. Marie, ON

Amazing! I love this system

I have bought 5 now. I have the system in stereo in my home and at our chiropractic clinic we have one in each treatment room and one in the reception area - playing different streams in each room. Love it!

  • from Cambridge, ON

This system is AWESOME !

Okay, like many I don't write a lot of reviews. I am a geek and love to play with toys but it is rare that something is so eloquent and such high value for the price. Saw a Sonos system in play at a friends house so I picked up a Play 1 for fun to see how it sounds. Better than my Bose radio and the ease of controlling it from mobile devices or computers is second to none. You do NOT need to have any apps running to use the speaker. Assign a streaming source and you can locally pause/play and adjust volume anytime you want. Loved it so much I just bought a Play 3 for another room and WOW what sound quality. Moving the music sources around is fantastic/flexible and seamless. I am off to get a Play 5 for the family room and another Play 1 for the workshop as this system not only works extremely well but is value priced for what you get and the ultimate flexible streaming system. WELL DONE !

  • from Hamilton, ON

Not functional

Bought it with an assumption it would work as a wireless extension of my computer speakers. However, the application is designed to play either content stored on computer or some online stations. It won't play sound for YouTube videos or any online video sources. In other words, if you want to listen instead of watching and listening, Sonos is not for that. The support says it's been like this for 10 years now. I seriously doubt it is hard to make. There are devises like that. The intention is obviously to make one buy more music online as the app has an online shop. To me, that is ignorant. Returning it tomorrow.

  • from Toronto, ON

Perfect solution for a small condo!

I kept buying small bluetooth speakers and wanted richer sound. Mostly listen to music through an internet subscription (Slacker) and the radio. Started with one sonos play 1 and now have three units. This provides great coverage throughout my 650 sq ft condo. Haven't linked it with my itunes yet but can confidently recommend this to anyone who listens to music via an internet music provider supported by Sonos. Set up was a breeze! The system is easily controlled through either the Android or Apple app. I've used both on various devices with no issues.

  • from Pierrefonds, QC

Sonos play 1 WOW!!

Really an amazing speaker for such a tiny enclosure. Got rid of all my other hifi equipment and replacing them with sonos products. I am sold on sonos!! Was a bit hard to set up at first but walked through it with sonos customer service and I was up and running in no time. All in all a great product. Quality build and solid sound.

  • from Hamilton, ON

Play 1

I added a pair of play 1 as surround sound speakers. They sound exceptional with music and even better with TV
