More Information

One fine shot, one captivating story

  • The 24.3MP Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor brings out the beauty in even the simplest things. It delivers incredible detail and low noise, so you can capture not only the fine texture of a butterfly's wings as it rests gracefully on a nearby shrub but also the veined surface of the leaf it's sitting on.
  • The APS-C sensor size, the same sensor format found in Sony's full-sized Alpha DSLR camera lines, combines high resolution and sensitivity in a body half the size and weight of standard DSLRs. Now stopping to rest during a hike opens up a world of possibility, with a camera that gives you the flexibility to endow simple moments with your own artistic flair.
  • Bionz X processor works seamlessly with the sensor to produce crisp still images with area-specific noise reduction, true colour rendering, and detail reproduction. Infuse your butterfly photo with a sense of vibrant realism, and capture what your eye perceives, highlighting the subtle beauty of the delicate, brightly patterned scales.
  • High-sensitivity ISO 100-25600 limits the noise in the picture for superb clarity in dim situations. Bring to light the lush variety of flora and fauna often hidden in the forest undergrowth, and when you need it, pop up the built-in flash to give your subject the "sharp" attention it deserves.
  • The included 16-50mm E-mount retractable Power Zoom lens is small and compact, barely protruding from the front of your camera so you can still slide your a6000 in your jacket pocket with the lens attached. It features ED and aspherical elements for reliably sharp and detailed images well suited to everyday shooting

Capture the energy behind your moving shots

  • Capture the perfect moment thanks to rapid 11fps (frames per second) continuous shooting with AF (auto focus) tracking. And with enhanced Lock-on AF tracking you can keep moving subjects in sharp focus, meaning the rapid scurrying of a squirrel with your friend's stolen bag of trail mix is caught with superb clarity and detail.
  • The a6000 employs 4D FOCUS that uses a wide AF (autofocus) area with 179 phase-detection AF points for accurate focusing throughout the frame, Fast Hybrid AF (phase detection and contrast detection) that accurately measures the distance to the subject by locking on to it in as little as 0.06 second, and an advanced AF algorithm that predicts the subject's movement for quick, precise AF tracking.
  • Record Full HD 1080p videos in slower 24p frames per second for a traditional, cinematic effect, or catch your buddy's impressive back flip off a rocky boulder in fast 60p.
  • AVCHD codec lets you record beautiful Blu-ray picture quality, while the computer-friendly MP4 codec makes it easy to compress your files and upload to the web. This way you can fully appreciate your recording finesse displayed in Blu-ray quality on a monitor or big-screen TV, or post directly on Facebook for instant updates to your social network.

Easy to handle

  • High-contrast Tru-Finder OLED electronic viewfinder lets you view your landscape shot in rich detail. Preview your recordings, including the effects of camera settings, so you can tweak exposure, colour, and focus before taking the picture.
  • Tiltable 3-inch 921K-dot LCD screen flips up about 90 degrees and down 45 degrees so you can indulge in perfectly framed low-angle shots, and change your view on a whim. Dare to stand on the cliff's edge and photograph the plunging depths below.
  • The a6000 sports a small, lightweight design while offering immediate access to functions you need to shoot like a pro, including full manual control and 7 customizable buttons. Quickly choose shooting modes and camera settings with a rear-mounted control wheel and 2 top dials.
  • Equipped with a Multi Interface Shoe, the a6000 lets you take advantage of a range of accessories, such as video lights and shotgun microphones (not included). These accessories help you create more professional-looking videos.

Share your highlights

  • With Sony's PlayMemories Camera Apps, you can find apps that'll let you control and view your camera from a Wi-Fi-enabled smartphone, as well as share and save photos. Post those thrilling shots of your multi-day hike directly on Facebook, given you can find a Wi-Fi connection in the wild.
  • Wi-Fi and NFC connectivity make wireless file transfers and one-touch pairing easy. The PlayMemories Mobile app lets you touch your camera to an Android smartphone or tablet, and create an instant connection through NFC for sharing, remote control, and basic editing.
  • Sony's lithium-ion rechargeable NP-FW50 battery lasts up to 360 stills on a single charge, while the innovative InfoLITHIUM battery system lets you see the power percentage remaining so you can shoot with confidence.

Cannot charge battery

Either the battery is dead and cannot be charged or the camera cannot charge the battery. Cannot turn on the camera to try it. Returned.

Product was scratched in several places and missing charger.

Product had quite a few scratches on it (LCD screen, lens, and bottom of camera). Camera looks like it were screwed on very tight to a tripod as there are circular scratches on the bottom. Also missing charger and USB cable. Pretty disappointed as the rep said the camera should have never been used, just box opened... Definitely doesnt seem to be the case.

Definitely not "practically brand new"

Camera arrived and is missing charger and USB cable. Also scratch on LCD screen + several scratches on bottom as it looks like it was screwed very tight into a tripod. (That or it was a floor model). Pretty disappointed, will be returning it tomorrow.

Seems like a great camera but...

So when they say open box... I barely got a box. Came in a big brown box full of bubble wrap. Inside the bubble wrap was a small brown box with no labeling on it other than a geek squad sticker. inside the box was a bag with the charger, strap etc. everything looked unused. The camera was in a bubble wrap bag inside this small box. No manuals or anything. No sony branded anything. Very barebones. Not impressed with Bestbuy's packing or shipping. But the camera seems to be in functioning condition.

Not completely Satisfied

I am quite satisfied with the camera, as I have owned a NEX-5 previously and knew pretty much what to expect. Its a nice step up from that, with faster AF and nicer overall performance. The reason I am giving this a 3 star review is not because of the camera itself, but due to Best Buy's seeming lack of interest in accuracy and satisfied customers. When I ordered the camera it arrived in a plain brown box, missing some small items: it did not include the lens cap or the body cap, which are both clearly listed under the "what's in the box" section of the product page. I wrote to Best Buy and 2 weeks later got a lens cap, but no body cap. It doesn't even matter much, but I also received an email telling me the body cap in not included in this model, although it is clearly listed as included on the website. I am irritated by the seeming arrogance and lack of customer consideration.

So far so good!

Well, I've been eyeing this camera and the newer versions for a while. Didn't want to spend double or triple the price for the a6300 / a6500 even if they sounded even better. So far, I am definitely satisfied. I wanted a versatile camera, a quick camera, but did not want to have the bulk of a SLR. Even if SLRs have the potential to be better, sometimes, debating on what you want to do with the camera, a compromise camera will do an excellent job. I do a lot of travelling and go to a lot of concerts. I was able to try it at a concert last weekend. I was first row, but still, I was able to get amazing shots. I did not have the chance to try this camera for scenery yet, but I am sure it will do a great job also. Oh, and I purchased the open box version. Was in perfect condition. So, I saved some money there.

Open box a6000

I got this camera in brand new condition. I did a shutter count check and looks like less than 400 pictures was taken. This is my first time buying opened box from Best Buy. Prior to purchasing I did take a look at the reviews on this website. I still purchased because I figured I can refund if it ends up if the camera was faulty. So far I have no problems and didn't encounter the problems people mentioned here. In terms of screen being black, I read somewhere it is due to dust on the lens sensor on the camera body.Possible clean the sensor on the camera might help with the black stuff on the screen issue some people reported earlier.

DO NOT BUY OPEN BOX

The open box "Geek Squad Certified" stamp is that what you think. It does not give you "peace of mind" for purchasing an open box product. It states that the products are "thoroughly inspected" and you're getting a vitrually new product. I have purchased open box items before (not from Best Buy), and as much as I do love the Sony a6000, I do not believe this product is "like new" or has been "thoroughly inspected". My camera came with a burnt pixel which is noticeable on the LCD + viewfinder. I believe this may actually be a problem with the lens as it is not present without the lens attached. There are also 2 obvious scratches on the image sensor which of corse ends up as artifacts on every image taken. Save yourself and find the camera from another company open box/used...or just fork out the cash for a brand new camera.

Bad service at Best Buy

Best Buy, I was just in your store less than 10 minutes ago. I was told I had to leave the store to order this item online. Now I'm looking at it online and it's no longer available. Please remedy this for me.

Geek Squad Open Box-Doesn't focus

I purchased this camera with hopes that it'd work. It doesn't. Doesn't focus and half the time doesn't take pictures, mostly because it doesn't focus properly. Guess I'll have to return it. Hope the second one works.

Great camera

Great camera, a fantastic upgrade to my NEX5N. Easy to use, many programmable keys and a separate wheel for aperture and shutter speed. 4 stars because mine came with dust on the sensor, it wasn't cleaned thoroughly.
