Not worth it

I bought one of these less than two years ago. Two weeks after the 1-year warranty expired, the left channel of the output amplifier died. At the same time, the headphone jack did the same, but totally - no sound. I wouldn't buy it. And considering I'm an old Sony fan, I wouldn't buy another of their products.

Computer Speaker Setup

Computer speakers are too small, home theatre surround is too large, this 2-ch is just right. I replaced a 9.1 setup and had lots of extra speakers around in the 100 - 150 watt range. I also spend more time on the computer than in the living room surrounded by those speakers. This 2 channel is suiting a computer speaker setup perfectly. I wouldn't run my home theatre with it but this application works really well.

Great Quality for the Price.

Picked this up last night to replace the old 20 year old unit of mine that died, and so far I'm very impressed. Great quality, no hiss, produces great bass for my large speakers. A simple receiver without all the expensive bells and whistles we often pay way more for that most people never use. 100% happy with this purchase. Easy installation, worker right away with no fuss. Someone complained in the reviews that the auto-standby feature was annoying to them. Took me about 45 seconds to locate the Auto-Standby in the settings and turn it off ;) A little tinkering goes a long way.

Rare 2-channel

Simple 2-channels are rare these days. Bought this one to replace a 20 year-old Sony 2-channel that finally crapped out (dust I think). Works great, sounds great.

Great for bedroom

I use this with a pair of Dayton B652 speakers on my desk, and some older Toshiba speakers on the floor. This receiver sounds amazing compared to any computer speakers or small portable speakers. Having the five inputs is great so I can leave my turntable, computer, and CD player plugged in, and also have a free cable for my phone. The volume and input selection dials have a great look and feel. Only downside is the A/B speaker selection can only be made by pressing a button on the receiver itself; there is no button on the remote for this. Hardly a deal breaker though. Definitely recommend this unit.

Great Sony Product

I have come to trust sony for their great quality devices, and this product is not an exception. It provides great sound quality for my small bookshelf speakers and drives them easily and effectively. It has a black brushed aluminum faceplate that looks sleek and fits perfectly in my desk.

Sony STRDH130 260-Watt 2 Channel Stereo Receiver

Not the number of sound choices as the Technics unit I had but for the price it is good value. Provides better sound than a similar priced Sound Bar

  • from Cold Lake, AB

It is great!

A good product at a good price. I replaced an ailing Kenwood Tuner - this one drives both sets of speakers with good audio response ... and as a bonus provides additional source options ... sure beats the TV sound!

Not impressed ....

Hooked it up to a set of Sansui 45-c 55 watt speakers which sound very nice but with this receiver, they sound very tinny. Returned the reciever to Best Buy for a full refund (impressed) and hooked up my old Pioneer 17 watt receiver which sounded a lot better. Maybe I'm missing something here, but I am not impressed.

Very pleased

Great value and more than you would expect for a receiver in this price range

Not bad for the price

Very good amp/receiver for the price. All the basic functions are there. All the common classic audio inputs are there ( VCR/ CD player / DVD player tape deck etc. ) The only negative point is that there is no Optical Audio input nor HDMI input. The stereo separation is good and the sound is good; as long as you hook up good speakers.

  • from Montréal, QC

Very good product for the money

Great sound, if you have good speakers. It has all the basic classic functions. Plenty of inputs to hook up all anolog equipmentso such as tape deck, VCR, CD player, etc. À négative point, it has no HDMI input and no optical audio input.

Capable, but lacking a few simple features

This amp is a very good sounding amp. Not as warm as the old Realistic SCR-2500, but very clean and the distortion is low. The noise floor is nearly non-existent. While the auto-off feature can be annoying (I'm used to old amps without such things), I guess it does save the amp a little. Be aware that this receiver is more realistically a 200W amp, not a 260W. If you read the specs you will see why. I find that the amp has to work a little to drive my custom built boxes with Hi-Vi's, but the amp effortlessly drives my Technics tower speakers, which are the power-hungry boxes I wanted this amp for primarily. I wish it natively supported an EQ, but I am assuming you can create a loop with the tape-in/record-out. I have yet to test that. Personally I feel that the sound is a tad empty, so I would like to tune out the mids a little, since that is probably the culprit. Only having a two-band EQ built in, it cannot attenuate the signal very much, but it is good enough for the average person. Overall, the low-end is very clean and the highs are well articulated. I don't feel that this amp's attack and fall-off is off-balance. I am hearing things with it that I am not used to hearing (in a good way).

Sony STRDH130 260-Watt 2 Channel Stereo Receiver

Very capable receiver, clean sound through all volume levels. 2nd one in the family, 1st runs 24-7, 365 at a volume of 20-25 in our shop and has run for 2 1/2 years non-stop excluding power outages.. The second and newest drives 2 Realistic MachOne speakers from the 70's. It drives them hard and loud. Great receiver without all the stupid bells and whistles that no one actually uses anyway.

Great little amp with with A/B capability

I was looking for a simple 2 channel amp with A/B capability. I have it setup with 4 Boston Acoustic CS 26 II's ... in a small retail store. It's been running 10 hours a day, 7 days a week for 4 years now. I can definitely rock out the place after hours if I like. I'm going to buy another soon before these disappear.

Works great, just wish it had a ground for my turntable. I still like to spin the lp's once in a while

Great product

Great sound, good price. For the money, I don't think there is a better unit out there. It is easy to operate and does what it is meant to do.

  • from Toronto, ON

Good basic stereo amp with A/B capability.

Solid unit. No audible sound issues heard. I needed A/B speaker power to be able to sound to the backyard, and also a room in the back of the house. That works, although when A & B are both on you can't separately control the volume of just A or B. The remote is a bit absurd for a stereo amp. They added multi-remote capability for those who want to use the amp with a TV & DVD. But if you wanted that, you'd get a 5.1 receiver. So, there's a whole bunch of buttons that you'll probably never use. I was worried to get this for a couple reasons. No digital in and no sub out. So, I hooked up my digital devices using analog, and put the speaker out to the sub speaker in. Neither the highest fidelity way to do it in theory. But you know what? It sounded just fine. Actually good considering the price. To have these features built in I'd have to have spent almost [much] more. It just wasn't worth it for what I needed. So, for function and value I give it 5 stars. For the little issues, I'd back it off to 4.5, but they don't let you do that.

Sony 200-Watts

I could not be happier!. The sound quality is excellent and lots of reserve power, it comes with all the basic requirements for quality listening. The only thing missing is a phono input, which can be fixed with a simple work-around.

Sony 200 watt receiver

I bought this receiver to use as an additional amp for remote speakers and to use as sound reinforcement for my second TV. It was easy to set up and use, sounds great and the price was very good. I would recommend this unit for anyone who isn't interested in buying the surround sound receivers out there. Over all I am very happy with this unit!

Sony 200 Watts 2 Channel Stereo Receiver - ROCKS!!

For many years we have been lucky enough to own a Harmon Kardon Stereo receiver. Any one who knows stereos will tell you they are good! Well when it was no longer useable, we decided to get something reasonable for the time being. Well the "time being" is going to be for good! This stereo receiver is as good as the Harmon Kardon but a lot less expensive. Thanks Sony and Best Buy!

Sony 200-Watts 2 Channel Stereo Receiver

I found this product to meet the description Sony gives it and at good value for the cost. Only quibble I have is that when first turned on if the input is the internal tuner there is a faint squeal accompanying the audio at the speakers that starts at low frequency then rises in frequency, crests and then falls back down in frequency to become inaudible after perhaps a minute, not a big deal really.

Sony200-Watts Receiver STRDH130

We have had this unit for only 2-3 weeks and are very satisfied with all aspects. Easy to set up, use and program. A great deal for the price. This is not a high end unit but it delivers everything that most people want.

  • from Alliston

Not a bad little unit for the money! Sound is great, easy to use! Working great with the in-ceiling speakers throughout the house!!!

  • from Victoria, BC

so so, (NOT happy with the 'protect' feature)

The manual's very skimpy (took a half hour online with live chat Sony customer support, just to get help in learning which keys alter the 'balance' setting, turns out the remote needed 'resetting' which the manual does not cover). Pro: What I like: I do like being able to control a receiver using a remote control. BIG con: The 'PROTECT' (shutdown) feature kicks in way too readily (imo) when I'm playing my CD or TV at just moderate sound levels, which leaves me wanting to go back to my 50+ year old fully manual Lloyds receiver (50 watts) and I'm fighting the urge to simply return it today.. And, there's a lot of heat wastage which is where most of that 200 watts appears to be going, for my area I pay 7 cents/kwh, so that adds up when electrical power's being wasted. Visit the Sony site for this model's full description (I cannot say why due to review posting restrictions but it's worth the visit, believe me).
