Recording on FM Radio

I can listen to FM radio and recording it in WAV format. (See Sony official web site has user manual showing the step of using this function.) But while I plug it into USB charger, I can't play music or listen to FM radio.

Great little product - thanks, Sony!

This mp3 player has worked very well for almost two years, best one I've ever had. Great sound. The only minor drawback for me is not being able to delete a file right from the player itself. I would definitely buy another one of these little gems when my current one fizzles out.

good bang for buck

Pretty good especially having fm radio...also usb so great and easy for using as removable drive ... cheap enough too that if you lose it you won't lose much sleep

sony mp3

I find the sony nwz e385 is the best mp3 but since they are disconnected this would be the next best thing..the new sony nwz are not good from what I heard.

Battery lasts for one year

Worked OK for a year. Now the battery will not charge. I'll see if I can open the unit, but I suspect I will destroy the case in doing so. The other thing wrong with this player is normally you'd select RANDOM so you can listen to all of your songs -you don't want the first ten tunes over and over. But when you choose RANDOM, the exact same song is played every time at startup. And then it plays 30% of the songs on the device and goes back to to repeat them all in the exact same order.

Poorly made garbage

I bought it, pluged it into my PC it loaded the music fine. First time I used it the screen stopped working. It's to much money to bother to mail in so i figured I would take it apart. The board was covered in corrosion and the parts were sloppily put together. It had with tool marks on the ribbons! Someone must have got their greasy hands all over the electronics during manufacture and just ruined the board. Absolute amature hour. not worth a penny.

perfect for my needs

Like the simply way to turn off and on. Use it to listen to books when I am driving and perfect for this application. No need for cords when loading. Great buy for the money.

Why Oh Why

I bought this mp3 player as I trusted the brand name .What a mistake. The battery after 6 months of use are able to play music for 10 min. Unfortunately I throw out my receipt .My friend bought his a week later than me (because of my recommendation) that one had a different issue it wont charge at all after 4 months. I trusted Sony with their quality products ,this is not one of them.

For the Price, Its a Great MP3!

Easy to upload music, easy to handle. There is a radio for those who don't like the playlist. Its nice cylindrical shape makes it easy to handle and it's a great size and weight. I highly recommend this MP3.

Very good MP3 player

Very good MP3 payer, easy to use, work fine. Didn't like the headphones included in the pack, had to buy something more confortable for my ears.

simple excellent sound

Dear Walkman!! Please get me that quality you used to have,(RIP SONY Quality)

Bought this mp3 yesterday. Audio Quality : Tried few songs of different bitrate, quality, format, etc. Problem: Good Quality songs chew my ears, too much low frequency sound making my head ache. Tried Tweaking equalizer , bass boost ,etc, trust me nothing can make it better. On the other hand low quality songs - music sound like sluggish ... Bottom line - no Hardware acceleration to make sound quality better. (tested with apple earpods, Monster headsets and the one provided as well) Earphones- Dollarstore headsets are better quality than the one those are provided. End User Accessibility : That is the only Plus point I have seen in the whole product. Easy to use on any Operating System, just drag and drop songs. Mp3 Controls are easy and I really like Lock button on Mp3. No clips or anything to carry around, pretty easy to loose. Battery Life: Decent batter life. Best Buy Customer Service: Won't Price match if competitor is out of stock. :( Price: [price] (after tax) is not justified for this quality. Moral of the story : Returning sadly.

Not Good

I purchased 2 Sony Walkman 4GB MP3 Players. The first one I accidentally put in the wash, and it didn't work after. No surprise there, so don't wash yours with the laundry. The second one I bought, because at the time I was happy with the product, has lasted about 4 months. The issue is the headphone jack malfunctions and only transmits some sound. I use my item for running, so it's always in my pocket, ideal for its size, price, and display menu to select songs. Now it's useless for running, only now good for a player via USB in my car. Disappointed in the way it's now defunct.

Good quality

I have had this Walkman for 2 years great quality in sound. I didn't like at beginning the volume because at level 24 instead going up (I don't know why goes down). But trough time I got used to listen average between 18-21 and I know I'm not destroying my ears. Just once I had a problem I used to do exercise and maybe because the swept it stopped working and when I pressed (for first time) the reset button just turned off (dead) i just left it and forgot it for a few days, and one day just by curiosity pressed the play button and turned on again, and ever since keeps playing my favorite tunes. So 2 advice don't expose it to corporal moisture and wear SONY headphones (cancelling noise) for best performance.

:( If only the damn SHUFFLE was perfect...

Everything about this mp3 player is pretty much spot on right to the sound quality, ease of use and especially the design - very slick and simple! But c'mon...this would have been the easiest 5-star rating ever if the shuffle worked the way it is SUPPOSED to. It should NEVER repeat ANY tracks until ALL the songs have played. I have 180 songs and I swear I keep hearing the same songs more often than not and I never get to hear the other tracks that I wait for. I go for LONG bike rides out in the open country and this is a must for me so unfortunately it gets a 3 (closer to 3.5) but there are no half ratings. This is oddly strange considering Sony's other walkman mp3 players never had this issue. Disappointing, to say the least.

  • from Toronto, ON

lasted a month

I had this MP3 player for a month then it just stopped. I mailed it back to sony on my dime and got a cheque in the mail for the replacement cost (I am still out the shipping fee). It was such a pain to go through the process and I still don't have an Mp3 player. Never again.

  • from Duncan, BC

Good, but...

I've bought 2 of these over the past few years. The first one lasted about a year and a half, and the second one died today, after maybe two years. They're nice units, but they should last longer, so I can't value them very highly. I will look for another brand.

  • from Springhill, NS

Returned the item

I returned the item as it was advertised as having a clip. It does NOT have a clip. I need a clip for running.

  • from Calgary, AB

Good choice

Charge in a USB slot, drag and drop files, take off and enjoy your music. Control placement on the device is the only issue, but where else could they put them on a USB memory stick?

Sony Walkman MP3 Player

I had to return the item because it would not charge. Bought from Best Buy on line and returned to store. Return was "hassle free". Unfortunately there were no other Sony's so I had to settle for a secondary brand. Disappointed in the quality of replacement... but it works. It was a cheaper price so i guess "you get what you pay for".

Whats the point of good sound if it does not work

My wife bought this mp3 player used it for three months then it stopped working it was completely dead no matter what we did so we sent it to Sony paid for shipping one third of the price of the unit and then when we got the new unit it didn't even work at all. We called Sony back and they told us to ship it again and they would refund us the money for the unit, I dont think so nice try Sony but your customer service sucks why would we send it again if were not getting reimbursed for shipping! we will NEVER buy any Sony products again!

Great Products

Hello, I absolutely love, love my Sony Walkman from it's design to the ease of operating it . The size is perfect and the hold feature is wonderful because if bumped of accidentally pressed it avoids the music from stopping. I have only one query with my Walkman and this is that I loaded some songs onto it from iTunes, it shows that they are in fact on my Walkman but I cannot play them whatsoever. If you can figure out a solution for me in this matter it will be greatly appreciated. I still own a Sony Walkman cassette player that works fantastically to this day, I've always thought of your products with high regards and satisfaction. Thank you so much for all the years of electronic devices that have been well made and a pleasure to own. Appreciatively Beverly Lilley

Average, even for the price

A step back from similar walkman available few years ago

Still Kicking

Bought this over a year ago, works great, sounds great. Strong metal case can withstand all sorts of bumps and scratches. Very simple design and functionality. Bass Boost sounds great...Definitley would recommend though, im surprised they haven’t come out with a higher capacity yet...should not be too much of a price jump to make a 16 gb version....

Takes a beating and still works

My 12 year old daughter bought this about a year ago. She did lose the cap early on, but despite being kicked, dropped, lost and found, and from all that abuse the USB end is kinda loose, it still works. It even went through the washer and dryer last week and it's still working. We have not had the problems others have had, it's been a great unit, especially for the price. Would recommend to anyone.

Great While it Lasted

I bought this MP3 player after my iPod died. I use it for the gym and I was really happy with such a small, lightweight, fairly basic little player. Sound quality was good, shuffle feature worked fine, and I liked that it has (or rather HAD) a display screen. Yes, the buttons are a bit small and fiddly, but overall for the price I was happy. Less than ONE MONTH of use and this morning during my workout the screen went blank and would not come back on. Then the buttons started to malfunction with the top of the toggle button only working to scroll forward through the playlist (the bottom of the toggle suddenly only worked to turn the volume down), and the volume buttons (both of them) only turning the sound up. Brought it home, pushed the "Reset" button - no luck. Plugged it into my computer and now it won't turn on at all. It's dead Jim. So back to BestBuy for a refund or credit toward something else. Won't waste my time or money on a Sony product again!

Broke after 6 months

Hi bought this to use at the gym for approx one hour twice a week and it started to malfunction after approx 4 months (not turning on or off as desired, no changing menus), and eventually it just stopped working altogether. So frustrating, because it really is the perfect shape/size for working out, and the audio quality was quite good for something to small. I purchased geek squad insurance for this item, and it was replaced, but how annoying to now have to figure out another solution =-( I don't want to run with my phone because I don't want to risk damage to it, and don't think an arm band set up with work when weight training. Argh.

Broke After Single Use

I purchased this mp3 player after looking up alternatives to the iPod Shuffle. Worked fine out of the box, loaded music without issue. I go to charge it via USB connection in both my PC and laptop, and now it tells me either the battery is 100% drained (after hours of charging) or that it is 100% full. In the event that I can get it to select a song, the song is completely frozen and just continues to play the same note over and over again. Honestly, this is the worst product I have purchased in years, and will not be buying anything Sony based as a result anymore.

Good Product, but could be better

Sony does make excellent TVs that last a very long time. I had an old Trinitron TV and up to this day, it still works as well as an HDTV. Sony's MP3 Player is good product in general with a few drawbacks. You do need to get better headphones to make your experience better. I bought cheap SONY ones and am not getting as good quality as the better SONY brand ones, but you get what you pay for so it makes sense. Another drawback is that I couldn't find an option to just fast forward or fast rewind to a specific point of audio track that I wanted to re listen to for learning purposes; it skips to the next track. Please make sure you also have a USB charger before thinking of purchasing this product because it can only charge with USB. Overall, the product works fine if you take care of it properly, just like with any product or even yourself.

NFG After a month

Had so much trouble with Sony in the past I had decided not to buy their products anymore. Unfortunately, this was the only MP3 player I could find and crossed my fingers that quality control had improved. Will no longer charge and the read out is glitching when I disconnect from power source. Reset doesn't help. Don't recommend you buy this.

Broke after 2 months

Mp3 player stopped turning on after 2 months. Computer said "unable to recognize device". I spoke with technical support and they said it was a battery problem (!??!?? wtf), and to take it in to a sony store. I live in Vancouver where there are no Sony stores... I'm out [price]. Will never buy sony products again....

Very poor UI & physical design

PHYSICAL DESIGN, BUTTONS & CONTROLS - Tactile response of all buttons and jog dial are poor. - Very poor placement of buttons (ie: volume buttons are very hard to find and press). - Clip is not strong enough. USER INTERFACE - Must go through many menu folders to change between repeat one/repeat all/random play modes. - The bass boost button is combined with a useless feature that plays only the first few seconds of a music file before going to the next. i want to toggle on/off the bass boost. Since the buttons are horrible, I keep activating the wrong feature. - Choosing a play list is involves too many actions of navigating through folders. I expected more thought to go into a Sony product.

Bargain MP3

Good for it's price. Will buy another.

  • from Stratford, PEI

Good quality.

I purchased this Sony model after a Hipstreet unit stopped charging. The Sony is very easy to navigate and power off. One click of the play button resumes the last track played. Great quality as I'd expect from Sonya. Don't waste your money on cheap imitations.

No Shuffle Only But I Love It All The Same

I bought mine about a year ago and, in the chaos of the last month, somehow lost it in the move. I'm totally buying it again. True, the clip fell off after 2 weeks (I'm very rough on my stuff; whoops!), and I kept getting thrown that I couldn't have shuffle-single. (It does have shuffle function, but only on repeating the songs.) As for the rest, the sound was just fine, I loved having access to a radio, enjoyed randomly recording stuff (then deleting it), relished the pocket-sized tinyness, had no problems adding songs and playlists, and felt so much more relaxed using a cheaper (yet still good!) mp3 player. I'm getting it again. Like, tomorrow. (After I look for it -- One. More. Time!)

  • from St. John's, NL

Pretty decent

Yet I like the previous generation a bit more. The radio is too loud for me even though the volume is already just 1, which I could have turned smaller with the previous generation. But overall is good.

  • from New Hamburg, ON

Lives up to expectations

I wanted a player to use while exercising. For this, I needed something small, light, and not requiring much fiddling. This Sony Walkman fits my needs perfectly. As a bonus, the FM radio enables me to catch the news. Typically for most players, the earphones are awful -- but since it uses an industry standard 3.5mm jack, I can select from several alternatives.

  • from Sudbury ON

good inexpensive mp3 player with radio

Very satisfied with this player. I haven't experienced any problems with the battery that some reviewers have indicated. The player is small, easy to use, includes radio, all the features I was looking for. Great buy for me!

  • from Cambridge, ON

Great, accept the shuffle.

I have no issues with this thing other than it's shuffle feature. I have 200-300 songs on mine. But when I turn shuffle on, the songs play in the exact same order every time. So I miss a lot of songs cause my listening periods some times only 20 mins or so. So I'll be getting a new mp3 player soon.

This device did not work properly with my conputer

I was so frustrated that this product when it did not transfer the data so I could not get it to function and brought it back to the store for a refund! I was not able to test the Audio yet I was required to give it a rating - the overall review should be 1/4 star!!!

  • from Brampton, ON

Nice little mp3 player

This little device is easy to use, charges quickly, and is light enough for you to not notice in your pocket. My only beef is that it says there is a clip included, which would just be dandy to clip it on your shirt (for workouts etc), but it doesn't actually include any clip! There's a little hole where you can string through a lanyard though. What's in the box is the player and a set of basic headphones. NO CLIP!

  • from Edmonton, AB

Awesome player

Just picked this up to replace my iPod. Super easy to use; plug it in - load it up - and you're good to go. Pros: Size, weight, display, functions are all easy to use. Con: Wish it came in a 8 GB model

Good value

Bought a bunch of them for gifts for kids and one for an adult to be used in the gym. It has a radio, mp3 player, and can be used as a usb key. Great audio quality. The gift was well received.
