Good guitar

The guitar is good but the amp is too much on the lower end and not very good. The amp will hiss when you from clean to dirty.

Beginner's Be Wary

Firstly, I want to say that Best Buy made the purchase of this product painless, and the return equally so. The shipping was fast, and Best Buy held up their end of the bargain. Fender, on the other hand, could have done better. (This would have been a 2 star review if Best Buy hadn't been solid on their end.) For a beginner's kit, this is a roll of the dice... I'd done a lot of research before buying, and did some additional research after receiving the purchase and deciding to return, so my experience may be highly atypical. Now for the review. First -- the good: the price; the coverage of offering (picks, tuner, guitar, amp, cable, truss rod and saddle allen keys, etc.); the wood finish; the size, the weight, the sound (more on that later); the amp (from what I heard) and the packing/shipping. Next -- the bad: awful tuners (couldn't get the guitar tuned, let alone have it stay in tune); the tuner (required an optical screwdriver to open and didn't register the strings when plucked most of the time); the frets (rough/sharp and extending well beyond the fret board, both top and bottom) and the plastics (pickguard and rear cavity cover were already scratched up). Other notes include: the kit appears to have been offered since about 2008-2010 (from what I can tell), so it might be older stock; the strap isn't leather (which one YouTube reviewer apparently destroyed through approx. 5 days of light use); the bridge pickup sat at a slight angle... At any rate, my advice... for a beginner, go and pick up a guitar you've touched. Best Buy have things out in the open, and you can have things ordered into the store (although the online ordering process was easy enough). As to Fender, the fact that they let this kit out of the manufacturing facility doesn't set well with me. I'd heard that Fender had a more consistent manufacturing standard (vs Epiphone), and most other reviews of the same kit are favourable (though all recommend replacing the tuners) and deem the guitar playable out of the box; however, other reviews of low end Squier strats here on Best Buy mention the rough frets, tuning issues and dings in the pickguards, etc. For a product aimed at beginners, Fender certainly set beginners up for a rough ride. If they're relying on retailers (Best Buy and music shops, etc.) being part of their chain of quality assurance, they should reconsider. I've seen cheaper, "no name" guitars in better shape. (I also checked the display models in store, and most frets were better, but still not as nice as an Epiphone I had (and sold) a while back...) If you're on the fence, spend a bit extra and go with Epiphone. It'll cost a bit more, but no tremolo (re: tuning issues), humbuckers (for sound quality, though the single coils seemed fine on the 4 strings I could get to stay tuned), higher quality tuners (super important if you're learning -- you need to be able to tune and stay in tune), and generally better worksmanship (from my limited experience). (Yamaha are also good beginner instruments as I understand it. Or, consider a good acoustic to simplify your options and lower your cost.)

Everything is pretty good except for it not keeping a tune. That sucks a lot. The DVD, stand, bag, picks, strap are all great. The amp is decent considering the size. Few small scrapes and smudges like the mini squier I got has, but not even close to as many. I tune the guitar, and it keeps a tune for about a minute for a few notes. Really frustrating. I am new to playing though, so just having an amp and set is great. The whammy bar squeaks pretty easily. A bit of a downer, but is preventable if you move it just right. If you're looking for zero disappointments, dig a bigger whole in your wallet. If you're just looking to learn like I am, this is great.

Good Value

I recently got this guitar set and I'm glad I did. Its truly a great buy for someone looking to get started on guitar but doesn't want to spend a lot to do so. The pickups of this guitar may not have a great sound to them, but this pack is obviously aimed for someone who is still learning, and it does a great job for that. The amp that comes with it is not bad for the price and although it is quite small, still packs a decent punch. This pack is great for someone just getting started and will set you up to one day play more expensive guitars.

Really nice guitar

Its a really nice guitar for beginners. It comes with all the accessories that one requires. It has a real nice finish and looks awesome! The pickups are good and the sound is very clear. All the controls have good tone effects. The amplifier is quite loud if compared to its actual rating, no need to buy a bigger amplifier till you are perfect! The electronic tuner is quite sensitive and easy to use. I would definately recommend it.

Perfect package for begginers

I reserved this at my local best buy and picked it up the next day. Right out of the box I have to say the guitar looked and felt great. Then I started playing it and was blown away by the clarity and perfect sound of this guitar. Now I'm no expert on guitars but as a begginer with some experience on a cheap and lousy first act guitar, I can tell you that begginers will absolutely love this. Easy to learn and in solid condition which should last years if you maintain it. Definately recommend this product.
