Good combo - front/rear, easy to install, warning set ups could be improved.

I bought it on sale and considering that it has joined front and rear cameras it was a very good deal. It helps that it came with 32GB micro SD that is good for 1 hour of continuing recording from front and back cameras. This is my first dashcam ever and I found it very easy to install and connect - and if you put some effort to hiding cables (they easily sneak under plastic and rubber elements of the car interior) the whole set up looks pretty good. Of course you would see some cables at connection points but this is inevitable unless you buy a wireless dash-cam, if they are already available. I thought about giving it 5 star rating, but I found audio warnings quite annoying. You can turn them off but then what's the point of having them? You can set up warnings sensitivity and there is also audio volume regulation, but the lowest level is still too loud. If you drive - as I do everyday - on 401, your warning of too close distance to a car in front of you beeps almost continuously, There are hundreds of "hot heads" cutting you off, so even if you drive 'defensively" the warning goes on. Having said that, since you are on the road usually in the company of aggressive drivers and some others with poor driving skills, that is why you need this dash-cam! Although it is not perfect, chances are that it would help you proving that it wasn't you who caused a collision.

A reasonable device

The video quality is pretty good, although the resolution is not sufficient to read a licence plate of a car travelling in front of you. I wish the front face was all black; what were they thinking? While Thinkware recommends a 64GB memory card, my device is unable to format a good quality Lexar card, so just stick with the 32GB card that comes with it. I emailed Thinkware Customer Support and they blew me off with a non-answer. Disappointing. Minus 1 star for that. Like others I turned off the extra features, like lane departure, etc. Way too annoying!

Nice piece of hardware ruined by bad video compression

First the good: - X500D has a very good build quality, especially comparing with cheap Chinese dashcams - comes with MicroSD card included, so it's ready to go - when on sale, it's probably the lowest priced front/rear FHD dashcam combo Now the bad: - video quality is not better than those cheap Chinese dashcams due to very strong compression that smears all the small details in the video. I could not read license plate of my neighbor's car across the street (like 7-8 meters away) - removing the camera from the mount requires a significant force At the end I returned the X500D and got an A119 that has much better video quality and it's also more stealthy.

Decent Dash Cam

Managed to pick this up on sale. Extremely easy to install, only taking about 15 minutes. Once installed, the camera is easily visible from the outside, making it tempting to thieves. Would have been better if the camera was all black in colour. The safety features are annoying, so I turn them off. I have been using it for a couple of weeks and the picture is very clear, records well at night, in rainy conditions, on sunny mornings when the sun is directly in front of the vehicle. Rear camera also has a great picture. My only complaints: - The videos are only 60 second segments. A one hour drive creates 60 videos! - There is a plastic 'creaking' noise when playing back the video on my PC. Thought it was my car creaking or the headliner where the wires are hidden making the noise but it's not. The sound is not there while I'm driving, only during playback. Almost sounds like it's coming from inside the unit. It's not that big of a deal, but can be a little annoying while I'm watching the videos on my computer. Other than that, it's a decent unit but definitely not worth full price. If a person can pick this dash cam up on sale, then it's worth it, but at full price, there are much better units on the market.

Best Brand of Dash Cams in the market

I've tried all the different brands, but Thinkware is by far the best value of for the technology you get. This product works absolutely perfect and it is extremely to set up. Would definitely recommend hardwiring this to act as a surveillance camera for your car! If there's any hesitation on what dash cams to get, look no further, this is the best value on the market.

FHD Dual Dash cam

Good dual dash cam. Has some extra features which I disabled (lane departure, front vehicle departure, etc) because they destructed me . I use camera for reverse drive and video recording only. Installed with tapped fuse in fuse box. Did not test parking mode as afraid to drain the battery.

Works really well as a dashcam but additional features need improvements

Video and audio quality of the dashcam is awesome. Parking and Motion options are really good as well. The only thing I would change if I could is the notification system with regards to LDW, FCW, etc. The dashcam just beeps to notify you so if you are driving there is really no way of knowing what kind of warning it is giving you. It is also very picky when it comes to its memory card. I tried using a Samsung memory card - everything works perfectly except after a few minutes, the dashcam automatically just turns off for no reason. I think they made it so that if it recognizes a memory card that is not what they want you to use, the system just shuts off. Also it records in 1 minute segments so it makes it harder to find a recording if you are looking for a specific one because you need to click and play every single recording.
