Not good

Mine crashed in less than 1 year. Lost everything. I will not buy anything Western Digital again. Very poor product and difficult to set up and use.

Why Do I Need A 5 Application Suite For This?

The idea behind this is fantastic.. basically Dropbox, but you have 3TB for a reasonable price. The implementation of that idea is awful. They have a suite of 5 or so Apps that you need for various things. Although you can do most of it through the website. These apps were terrible. Crashed frequently, led me nowhere, etc. Advice for WD.. make one friggin App! No one, and I mean NO ONE, wants a product to open up and say of here's a few programs you should download .. WD Sync, WD Quickview, WD Smartware.. I can't recall the others. This was God damn ridiculous seriously. If you have the misfortune of having this MyCloud device.. do everything via the website if you can. The phone app actually worked well too. The other apps are useless clutter. I'm returning this and getting a basic Seagate that I can just plug and play..

Difficult to set up

This is not just plug and play. The Cloud works fine but setting it up between two laptops and a desktop is quite the challenge if you are not a skilled computer person. It would be great if the set up was simplified for non experts such as myself.

Lost ALL my data

i bought a 3tb version, after about 2 years it overheated and cooked all my data.... (it was in a well ventilated area. Not very user friendly, the web client really sucks to use and is super slow and i found it was unreliable when attempting to connect to it from the start

worst performance

I normally don't have time to write reviews and before buying this during boxing day I checked the reviews and average was good and price was catchy...didn't listened to my friend advise to buy something else..I cannot access the files on this anymore now tried rebooting twice same issue now time has passed, cannot return even..I won't recommend this product.

Horrible product & support. Stay away

Bought a 4TB MyCloud Storage drive. Very complicated setup. Not intuitive at all. Software keeps crashing. Not backing up anything because the software keeps freezing up. Spent many hours on the phone with tech support who couldn't solve the problem. My issue was "escalated" to Level 2 support. A time was scheduled for them to contact me but they never called back. The Drive is essentially non functional. Not impressed with WD at all. I'm staying away from their products in the future.

Complicated set up. Not intuitive. Mobile app has limited functionality and incomplete cloud access. Be prepared to spend a lot of time on the phone with tech support. Consider a different manufacturer.

One of the best external drives on the market!!

I needed a reliable, well-made, and fast method of making daily backups of my business files. Purchased the 6GB WD My Cloud drive (replaces My Book technology) and have to say that it over-performs anything their competition have tried to sell. It is easy to set-up, make differential file backups in quick-time, and has excellent documentation. All of the negative reviews I’ve seen appear to come for “newbies” who have either not digested the documentation, or have never set up a Windows networking system. All I can suggest that the WD My Cloud drives be tried out . . . .installed properly and there will be no returns.

Horrible product

Maybe I got a bum product, but this thing is awful. Not user friendly and impossible to use. Took mine back after four days of trying to get it to do what it is supposed to do (including multiple tech calls to the company where they couldn't seem to explain this either). Never again. Upgrade your cloud and don't bother. What a waste of time.

Horrible Little Hard Drive

Definitely do not purchase this thing unless you like a looooong time to transfer files back and forth. It's useless. The only good thing is that you can access files via wi-fi, but it's slooooow.

Great Product

Super simple setup with great support whom I had to contact as I had connected the box to the WAN port rather than the LAN port so it was an easy fix for them. However the Support Rep then proceeded to complete the setup. Box runs fast and it streams pretty much anything to any box in the house with no buffering. Would be great to add more media server apps to the box but those are only available for the more expensive range.

Wow..dont buy that.

Was time for me to replace my good old DNS-323 and decided to give it a try. Mistake, mistake. It sure has nice features out of the box but it's buggy like I've never seen before. Interface is slow, media server keep disconnecting, safepoints are useless when they keep diseapearing, it disconnect my external usb drive all the i have no confidence it that device whatsoever. Waste of money and time, i'm looking to find a replacement for that piece of you know what..

I really hesitated before buying this cloud cause of the review that were posted online. some said it is not fast to transfer data or the interface is not user cant be easier than that to use!!! and for the transfer speed the people that complain about it don't have clue because it is super fast. anyway could not be happier with my new cloud

Very difficult to figure out and use

This product sounds nice but it is very complicated. I did end up getting my stuff backed up based on the information they provide but couldn't figure out how to regularly back up and now that I need to get the information off the cloud because my hard drive crashed, WD doesn't support it and I called geek squad and they said they can have a home service call but they first suggested WD. The Geek squad rep didn't know much about the product. If your not tech savy I would suggest buying two hard drives and just back up to the one on one week and the second on another week and just keep alternating and reformatting the drives so you don't run out of space. Way simplier, faster to recover. This is a nightmare to use and now I will need to spend hundreds of dollars to have a tech come to my house to get me back operational and it will take time. I don't recommend this product.

Good Product

It's pretty easy to setup, the transfer speed is decent, as mentioned is dependent on your network and how busy is it and also your computer, while running several stuff on the computer and network, the transfer was decent. I calculated like 500 Mb/min, with a HP Envy and Netgear R7000; people; transferring big files takes time. the computer slowed a bit but not much, but my PC has 16GB of RAM, so as mentioned by others if your network is too busy or slow just be patient. I tried the PS3 and my smart samsung TV, they both played well the movies I tried (they both connected to my network wirelessly) and they were playing the movies while I was still transferring a lot of data to the WD cloud.. I still need to test remote connection, but I don't foresee any issues there. Overall is a pretty decent network external HD to share media throughout your home.

Very good product

[...] I just want to let people know that it is indeed a very good product. i bought it 6 months ago and there were some bugs in the firmware like internet connectivity would get lost ..things like that. but after multiple release of firmware updates now it has become a pretty stable NAS. I like it so far!

Couldn't upload anything

Got this as a boxing day gift, opened it and set it up and right away it was the slowest WD Hard drive I've had, and as soon as it was close to downloading files to the hard drive it would start all over.

Initial Impression is Favorable

Purpose: I purchased this ethernet NAS to replace the 3tb WD MyBook that was connected to my router via the USB 3.0 port. The MyBook was essentially working fine for my needs, but occasionally it seemed to scramble the file directory and would lose data, or would render the files un-usable (couldn't open, move, delete, etc). I am uncertain if the instability had anything to do with the USB connection, or for that matter whether the problem was with the drive itself or the router. I was however interested in trying an ethernet NAS, and decided this was as good a time as any to experiment. The Cloud feature was not a big selling point for me, I'm not a big cloud user, but hey, it's included at a reasonable price point. I consider my computer knowledge rated at high end beginner, or entry intermediate. I understand most of what I read, and can source my way through most problems. Have only had the drive for about 48 hours, so I'm still figuring some stuff out. Use is home/small business. Pros: - Easy setup. Follow the very simple setup instructions included, and basic setup is very simple for anyone with primary computer hardware skills. - Pleasing design - Quiet - Fast. As others have noted it is an external device connected to a network. Various factors may affect overall speed and performance. I have a gigabyte router, that also offers (claims) gigabyte wireless performance on the 5 ghz wireless band. Following the "optimum data migration" setup recommended by WD (Source drive connected to computer via USB port, Computer connected to router with a wired ethernet connection, and the MyCloud properly connected and set up) I transferred 824gb of data in 12.5 hrs, averaging approx. 66gb per hour, Which is pretty reasonable. I was able to seamlessly stream 1080p HD video on wired and wireless 5ghz wifi to my TV and other media devices. - Cloud access was easy to set up, I haven't transferred any data yet, but connecting and viewing is simple with the free WD mobile app. - Excellent value for the price point - Well suited to the home user, or home/small business client. - USB 3.0 port on unit allows additional drive to be connected for expanded storage. Cons: - Crashes windows explorer if you try to view files and folders. Have to use the MyCloud program. May be able to work around this with drive mapping, but haven't got that far yet. - File and folder management a bit inconvenient, maybe I haven't figured it out yet, but adding and deleting folders seems to require logging into the router via the MyCloud Dashboard. - Doesn't seem to be any tools available for routine disk management, defrag, chkdsk, virus scanning, etc. It is possible I just haven't found them yet. - Detailed information on features and capabilities of this drive was not readily available while researching. I was hoping to utilize my 3tb MyBook as a mirror drive (RAID) or as a scheduled backup drive for the MyCloud. This is not possible with the software/firware included. - Can't be directly connected to computer via USB for those times when "stuff happens". Conclusion: Time will tell if this drive solves the instability problem I was experiencing with the USB connected MyBook. Initial impression suggests this is a good drive for higher end home users, but the USB connected NAS may be a better choice for many home users because file and folder management, and routine maintenance, is more familiar. I may end up upgrading to the 8tb MyCloud Mirror or similar to fully meet my needs.

Great product! Always funny to read reviews...

This NAS drive is inexpensive, easy to setup, reasonable fast and reliable. After reading reviews i cannot believe how people can be dumb about computers. First of all, you will never get ultra speed with an external HD, it gets worst if it´s not connected directly onto the computer. The speed of this unit will directly depend of your network. If you have a very fast network it will be fast enough. I have a very reliable computer with a fast network and it took me 12 hours to transfer 350 GO of music files from my computer to this unit with no interuption. Is it that slow? I dont think so. I was so satisfied that my friend bought the same unit the week after. Same thing for him, very happy about it. Some people think they will transfer 500 GO within the next hour or some people blame the unit if the transfer freezes for some reasons. I would be very curious to inspect their computer to see how stable it is... Bottom line is, dont rely on comments from people who dont know about computers or people expecting rocket science performance from a product at this price

Pretty good actually.

This product could easily get a 5/5 but has a few hickups. Very poor documentation as to how to set up the system. You have to go online and download all the software. In the beginning I didn't know which one to download and how to setup. Once I figured it out, the thing works like a dream. I can access it in the cloud or over network easily to view documents and stream video. I can't get the ps3 to stream videos but all the computers-pcs and macs work fine.

Garbage Class Product

Used to have a shared HDD to hold reports from the web for quick reference. With this, it is MUCH faster to directly view the reports on the web than retrieving from the HDD. Waste your time and money.

Great product, really fast

I have had no trouble with this unit. Easy to setup and use. It my be that other users have slow networks. Also put in a 1 gigabit ethernet switch, so no slow this drive. Have not tried the remote access yet. No worries, but I wish the colour had been black and not white!

Excellent product

Have read the other reviews, and I have had no issues. I have a gigabit Ethernet backbone and that's why others are having issues. If you want to move 100GB it's going to take some time across a network. The interface is a bit wonky, but it will do. Streaming video is a snap. 3TB is a nice amount of space! Just make sure your network connection is solid.

WD My Cloud worked great

I have not had any of the issues mentioned by others. If you have a slow network, any similar device would be slow. So, do not blame WD. I have a gigabit switch @1000 mbps, or 1 MB per second, this thing is fast. Interface is good as well. If you use a Blackberry, you cannot use the remote features. But for backup and streaming video content, this is a winner!

keeps disconnecting...maybe its me

I like the idea of having my own cloud to store things on, but I have not been able to keep connected. It seems like when my laptop is off that it loses the ability to reconnect with mycloud and i have to physically reset thecloud before it "initializes". On a plus it looks pretty? I also got it for a good price, and realize it could just be a setting issue since I connected to it with another laptop on the network..

Good Product

I purchased the 3TB My Cloud a few weeks ago. The set-up was easy, and performance has been solid. I have not had any of the issues other users have mentioned. When I transferred my photos and music to My Cloud, I did this with my old laptop connected via ethernet cable, and transfer was quick. So far I have been able to access it on all my devices and remotely without issue. Good Product, I would recommend to buy.

Failed out of the box - this is the second WD storage product I've bought and the second that did not work out of the box. LED never went blue - stayed white (trying to load OS). Reset didn't work. Couldn't connect to network. Just a fail all around.

My Cloud disconneted itself from network

i read the reviews but wanted to give it a chance. I ended up having an issue where My Cloud keeps disconnecting itself from the network. I found an active topic on WD forum with many people having this issue and no help from WD customer support. Even with a static IP and reserving the MAC on my router, I would still lose it after a day and would need to reboot the device to get it working. As for the speed, it was okay, but slow compared to a HD connected to you computer. But don't plan on moving files between shares, that is ultra slow! Even though the shares might be on the same HD, it treats it as separate and has to copy to your computer and than back to itself.

Not sure why the other guys are having issues. Maybe they have older slower computers. The only time I noticed this drive slow is when I accessed it 40 kms away at work.Even then it was respectable. When using at home it's like it's hooked direct to my computer super fast streaming awesome response time.(works fast through PS3 as well & super easy setup) great drive, quiet, and WD has been my favorite for years and the keep giving awesome quality products. This drive is a great buy. Awesome

WD drives are excellent for video streaming

I now have 4 Western Digital drives including the new My Cloud series. I rarely have problems with streams even with two users watching different movies. I agree with one writer who says that you need the right wireless router.. Mine is a Netgear N900 dual band gigabit router.

Very, Very, Very Sloooow.

Ok , lets start with the good. Its good looking, minimalist design, super easy to set up. Then comes the problem. It is not entirely clear on how to connect to the drive! For example a folder named Public really means ( I guess?) that it is shared by others in your home. Now Public nowadays means everyone from the security services, the Prime Minister and the Prince of Brunei can see it. So that really freaks anyone out. But the worst is yet to come. The data transfer over Wifi is agonizingly slow. unbearable. Worse than unbearable. Intolerable. I started to back up some songs. Took a half hour and had just 8 songs backed up. I did the math and found out that it would take until my 60th birthday to complete. And I am a young man. So decided maybe there is a shortcut and plugged in a portable USB drive on to the back USB post only to realize that the port is only to back up contents and not to load new media for backup. This baby is going back to the store.

Inconsistent Speed, Messy UI

My old LaCie ext. HDD died, bought this as replacement, after reading some positive reviews on the web. The set up was really easy and the initial copying from my local and USB HDD to it was fast, as fast as 30MB/s. But after a while it dropped to less than 1MB/s. Then, the connection (gigabit LAN), dropped while I still could access my other shared resources and go to the internet on the same router. After a while, it was up again, speed resumed to about 5MB/s. Spent 2 days copying files to it, now iTunes play songs from it, but again, sometimes take a while to load a song. The iPhone WD Photos app is possibly the slowest app available in the world, took more than 1 day to discover a few photos in my Shared Pictures folder while the WD Cloud app already displays the files 1 day ago. The other UIs are also not quite intuitive, the SmartWare backup software only display 1 local HDD to back at a time, need to go to Home tag to select another one and then repeat your select file to backup process in the Backup tag. The Dashboard UI takes 3-5 min to load up everything every time, even its own configuration settings. It is very quite, as if it does not exist. But it really disappears from time to time on your network. In general, they really succeeded in making an external HDD as slow as accessing a web site in a remote location.
