Keep your carpets clean and fresh with a carpet cleaner
Carpets are a great addition to your home when you want something warm to step on in the morning. You also can’t beat carpets for adding colour and style to your home. While they are durable and generally withstand stains, you’ll need a carpet cleaner to keep them in tip top shape.
What do carpet cleaners do?
Carpet cleaners are cleaning appliances that will clean and sanitize your carpets. The best carpet cleaners will expel a cleaning solution onto your carpet, scrub out any stains with scouring brushes attached to the bottom of the cleaner, and suction up the dirt and debris in your carpet.
Is carpet cleaning necessary?
To keep your carpets in the best shape, using a carpet cleaner on a regular basis is a good idea. Regular carpet steam cleaning or carpet shampooing will ensure you have clean and fresh carpets, they won’t wear as quickly, sand stains won’t have a chance to set.
Different types of carpet cleaning and equipment.
There are a few different ways you can clean your carpets, but the two most common are hot water extraction, also known as carpet steam cleaning, and carpet shampooing.
Carpet steam cleaner
A carpet steam cleaner uses hot water applied at high pressure to scrub the fibres in the carpet and remove any dirt or stains. Carpet steamers will spray a concentrated cleaning solution onto the carpet. Once the solution has had a chance to soak into the carpet, the carpet steam cleaner will rinse the carpet with clean, hot water. It will take several hours for your carpets to dry from carpet steaming.
Carpet cleaners can also shampoo your carpet. When you shampoo your carpet with a carpet cleaner you’ll spray thick, wet shampoo onto your carpets. Any dirt in the carpets will stick to the shampoo, and the carpet cleaner will scrub the entire carpet to dislodge dirt and debris. With carpet shampooing, the foam is left into the carpet.
Depending on what kind of carpet cleaner you’re looking for, there are pet carpet cleaners designed to remove pet stains, spot carpet cleaners to clean one concentrated area, and carpet cleaner and spot cleaning combos that will vacuum and clean your carpets with one machine.
Is it better to shampoo or steam clean carpets?
There are benefits to both carpet steam cleaning and carpet shampooing, but you’ll find that more people are choosing steam carpet cleaners to keep their carpets clean. Carpet steam cleaning leaves no shampoo residue behind, and because they will suction hot water from the carpets, the drying time is reduced.
How often should you clean your carpet?
How often you should clean your carpet depends on how much wear and tear your carpets receive. If you have pets, people with allergies, or you spend a lot of time walking back and forth on your carpets, you should use a spot carpet cleaner daily. High wear carpets should also have a full carpet clean every 3 to 6 months.
For lightly used carpets and homes without pets, using a carpet cleaner every 6 to 12 months is sufficient.
