Returning or exchanging an item at a store

We've extended our return policies in some provinces. See how your province is affected

If you've made an in-store, online, or Quick and Easy Store Pickup purchase, you can complete a return or exchange at any Best Buy store in Canada that’s currently open. You can check the status of your local store using our store locator

Before heading to your local store, check out the full list of return and exchange policies. Once you arrive, a Blue Shirt will be happy to assist you. If available, use our Check-in option to speed up the process.

Rest assured that we are taking every precaution with returns and exchanges at this time, including safely accepting items from you, and thoroughly cleaning them before they go back on our shelves. Learn more on how you can shop safely and confidently at Best Buy. 

If you purchased a Marketplace product, an item sold by our trusted seller-partners through BestBuy.ca, there is a different process to follow for returning or exchanging your item. Please check your item to make sure it is a Best Buy product before following the steps below.


How to return or exchange items at a store:

  1. Check the item’s return policy - Make sure your item is eligible for return using our product-specific return policies. Most purchases from Best Buy can be returned or exchanged for up to either 14 or 30 days from the date of purchase, depending on the type of product and the condition of its return.  
  2. Pack everything up - Make sure you have all the parts of your product, including original accessories and any bonus items (if applicable). In order to start your return or exchange, you'll need everything that was in the box, plus any extras that came with your purchase. 
  3. Bring your proof of purchase ­- Make sure you have your receipt, ID, and original payment method so we can process your return. 
  4. Head to a Best Buy store - You can check the status of your local stores by using our store locator. Some stores may have limited operations due to provincial regulations. Learn more about any service changes in your province.  
  5. Check-in or talk to a Blue Shirt - If available, use our Check-in option to help speed up the process and make exchanges easier. Instead of waiting in line for your return, you can save your spot and do something else while you wait. Just follow the signs at your store or get a Blue Shirt to help, and we'll tell you when it's your turn.

Currently, we're only able to offer contactless debit card and credit card refunds. If you paid with cash, your refund can be in the form of a gift card, or we can process it as a refund to your debit card.

Additionally, if an item is being shipped to you in multiple boxes, please wait until you've received the final box before making a return. The return period will start after you get the final box.
